Definitely a tourist spot in the heart of the reconstructed New Old Town (Dom-Römer), it certainly caters to the crowds, but it avoids the typical quality traps of its neighbors.The food is quite good,serving elevated Hessian classics and the service is surprisingly on point.

Simply too expensive. The food is nothing special and some of it tastes awful. I wouldn't recommend it! The staff wasn't friendly either!

Very central location in the new old town. Very friendly service! A bit limited space. Reservations are necessary, although the bar is sufficient for two people. :-) Food very good! Excellent value for money! Would gladly return.

We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely atmosphere and good food. The service was also attentive and friendly. Of course, the prices are a bit higher than in Sachsenhausen, given the prime location in the city center. I should mention that all the beers are from Krombacher, which isn't apparent from the outside. We sat near the bar, and the milk frother is malfunctioning and therefore very noisy.

Excellent German local food...only fault was it was very loud so hard to talk during the dinner.

The Wirtshaus am Hühnermarkt (Inn at the Chicken Market) is very centrally located, right in the heart of the new old town. A nice, large, but not overly extensive menu. The traditional dishes are delicious, green sauce and schnitzel, for example. However, as soon as you get to the more unusual dishes, the price-performance ratio is no longer reasonable. Three Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) with pumpkin and truffle for €33, and unfortunately, the taste wasn't convincing either. In an inn, it's best to stick to the classics, and then the food tastes good. The restaurant is dog-friendly, which is nice. However, as soon as a stroller arrives, it's no longer so dog-friendly. My dog ​​has to stand still so that the stroller can be parked inside without a child. That's a real shame. All in all, a solid 3/5.

Excellent - I would rate more than 5 stars if I could!!! We came today on a Sunday around 6:30pm without having a reservation and we got a very nice table in the window. We ordered the pumpkin soup, Wiener Schnitzel and Frankfurter Schnitzel, everything was just excellent! Also the waiters, highly attentive and extremely kind. The location itself is also very elegant and cozy. I saw here a review from someone who had a Wiener Schnitzel and was complaining about the thin meat. I would recommend for people who prefer the thickness of steak not to order a Schnitzel. It might be a bit pricey but everyone is free to leave if they’re not willing to pay these prices. We were more than happy, all the best ❤️

Been craving pork knuckle and looking forward to some authentic dishes in Frankfurt. Wirsthaus Huhnermarkt did not disappoint! The knuckle was just the right crispiness on the outside and tender soft and juicy on the inside paired perfectly with the sauerkraut. I was also pleasantly surprised with a really good negroni. All round well done and very enjoyable meal. Highly recommended!

If you run a business be responsible for the service you provide, and accept both positive and negative reviews, trying to improve your service instead of manipulating reviews. What happened just confirms this is a fancy tourist trap. My review was factual and constructive... NOT DEFAMATION. Original review: Food is good, maybe overpriced but you also pay for the location. Paid 43 euros for a wiener schnizel, beer and coffee. Service is what will not make me come back. I was alone on a work trip… many tables empty and waiter tried to sit me in a corner along the corridor, with many more comfortable tables available. Then visibly “push” out bringing the bill while still eating, and the cash machine right after… Rude. If single customers are not welcome and you want to keep tables free for possible larger groups to come... just say that and I have dinner in a more friendly place. Location is great. Restaurant atmosphere is good, food is ok… just the service needs improvement because it can change the experience significantly. This is a transparent constructive review. The service was attentive, friendly, and courteous, the food arrived quickly and was of very high quality. I particularly enjoyed the combination of classic dishes and modern touches – everything was freshly prepared and tasted fantastic. The presentation of the food was also appealing. The ambiance is cozy, with a lovely mix of traditional Frankfurt flair and modern decor. You immediately feel at ease, whether for dinner with friends, a business lunch, or simply a glass of apple wine. The restaurant is on the pricier side, but the quality of the food and service absolutely justifies it. I would definitely recommend it if you want to enjoy a good meal and a relaxing evening in the new Old Town. I'll gladly come back!

We had to wait a very long time for our order to be taken. Then it was served very quickly. The food was great. The schnitzel was also really delicious. But for the amount of food, a price of over €30 (just a side dish, no salad) is far too expensive. The drink prices are also exorbitant.

Overall, we had a good experience at this place. We ordered a lot. Schnitzel, pork knuckle, sausage, vegetarian ravioli, salad, pretzels, pike and 2 different desserts. Schnitzel was delicious. Pork knuckle was salty to my taste. Vegetarian ravioli and salad were perfect. Pike was just okay. The last call for food was around 21:30. Due to the exhibition at the Messe, there were many people in a restaurant and quite noisy. I recommend making a reservation.

I loved the way I was served. Since there was no room, I was able to go to the bar for dinner. The food was delicious, fresh, and plentiful.

The food was excellent, the Bembel (a traditional German beer) was also delicious. The green sauce was really great! Small note: traditional fried potatoes would have been even better with the schnitzel! The only thing is the price of €14.90 for a slice of cake with a scoop of ice cream is outrageous!

The Hakuse was amazing. The Frankfurter Kranz dessert was also to my liking, so I'll definitely be back.

TOURIST TRAP WARNING The food here was fine, but the service was unacceptable and dishonest. Diners should check their bills carefully — we were charged for items we never ordered, and gratuities were added to our total without our knowledge. Since we don’t speak German, the waiter presented only a final amount to pay, not an itemized bill. After we paid (and even tipped further, not realizing gratuities had already been included), we insisted on seeing the actual receipt. The staff resisted for nearly 20 minutes until we had to raise our voices in front of other diners to get a copy. When we raised this with the manager on duty, no action was taken. This behavior feels intentional and targeted at tourists — essentially a double-charging scam. To the owner: You can verify this incident by checking the original credit card charge against the revised bill with different timestamps. If you care about your restaurant’s reputation, please take action against staff engaging in such practices. Decision is all on your hand. I wish you all the best.

The waiter was very friendly and had no trouble communicating in English. We ordered the Frankfurt specialties of apple cider and green sauce. The waiter was very happy and kept saying thank you. 🤣 It seems like he'd done his homework. The portion didn't look large, but with the generous amount of potatoes, I was completely full. The green sauce was incredibly fragrant! It was so fragrant that bees flew over to see it. 🤣 It must have been super fresh herbs! Recommended for herb lovers. 🌿 The sauce itself was cold, but the potatoes were warm, so I thought they were perfect together. The apple cider was slightly tart and very refreshing. The Schweinshaxe was the best. The schnitzel was excellent, and the food was impeccably delicious, and the service was excellent. When paying, I asked if I could include a 10% tip, so I did. Later, I asked local friends and they told me that in Germany, tipping isn't strictly 10%; it's just about not getting change. Friendly staff and a regional menu. Unfortunately, it's very meat-heavy. I had the vegetarian Maultaschen for €23. They were delicious and enough for a light to moderate appetite. If you're really hungry, you should order something else. We also had sausages and salmon. All tasty, but nothing special.

The food was generally very well prepared and tasty. However, the portion was a bit small for €33. We would have liked a better value for money. We visited this restaurant based on its great ratings for local traditional food. As expected for a popular spot, there was a wait for a table. Unfortunately, for us, it wasn't worth it. Upon being seated, our table was dirty, which is understandable right after previous guests leave. However, it was completely unacceptable when the waiter accidentally threw the remains of the previous meal onto us while cleaning. Another major issue arose when our food arrived, but there was only one set of cutlery on the table, preventing us from starting our meal. Service continued to be problematic: we had to ask three times for lemon, which never arrived. Even more puzzling, the table next to us received their drinks before us, despite us ordering first. Our waiter only asked if we still wanted our drinks after we had finished eating. While the food was tasty, the meat portion was very thin, and I unfortunately found an eyelash in my meal. Overall, the poor service and hygiene issues significantly overshadowed the taste of the food.

Not sure if it’s due to the lack of staff. Not brought to the seats nor given a menu. However food was served relatively quick. Order their schnitzel. The batter was thin and the veal was smacked too thin in my opinion. However it was not too tough and was quite flavourful. Loved their potatoes as well as the green sauce. Was tangy and refreshing.

The Frankfurter sauce was delicious with the fried potatoes. The currywurst was also beautifully seasoned and delicious with the sauce. The service was also very attentive and courteous. Unfortunately, it's a bit overpriced. We were there for lunch on a rainy Monday. Everything was as you'd expect: the selection, the service, the ambiance. This is an excellent place to break up a short tour of the Old Town with out-of-town guests for a very pleasant break. But the value for money isn't really there.

Cool restaurant at a central place. Lots of different food options, as well as drink options. We spent 4 hours here on a hot day, getting snacks and drinks. The currywurst was good, but the sausages could have been more flavorful. The apple pie was delicious and really good. The staff was very busy and not that attentive, especially our waiter who would often feel aggressive, almost knocked over our glasses on the table, and close the menu cards while we were still holding them. Food was overall good, the atmosphere was great with a very nice location. Staff and service could be improved.

Tourist attraction... Expensive food, our waitress who was a woman had really poor English!! I wanted something else and she only said "finished" three times in a row. I panicked and ordered the next best thing, having no idea what I ordered. Being visibly upset she asked if everything was okay, which I replied it was not. I was not offered any sort of compensation or solution at all. My boyfriends salad, fries and sausage was unbelievably small for the price. If you're a tourist, AVOID THIS PLACE

We first started with Handkäse, is a German regional sour milk cheese (similar to Harzer) and is a culinary specialty of Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach am Main, Darmstadt, Langen, and other parts of southern Hesse. It gets its name from the traditional way of producing. It served in olive oil along with butter cream, fennel and sourdough bread. The freshly sour of Handkäse, goes totally well with the combination. For salad, we went for Goat Cheese salad, they first flame the cheese then pour over some honey, probably the smoothiest goat cheese I've ever had. For main course, both veal and pork knuckles were served, though one is grilled and one is deep fried, but both tender and nice. Especially the pork knuckles, crispy outside tender inside. Strongly recommend this boutique restaurant, a getaway from the crowded Romer Square.

I came here Sunday afternoon. 60% of the tables were empty. I asked if we can sit with my wife and old waiter ask if we want to eat something. I said sure something small then immediately he said we cannot sit if we don't order full meal for each. How rude! Continue treating your customers like this. Total tourist trap. Avoid.
