I ate a very delicious goulash soup, the female waitress was very, very nice, and the Gaffel Kölsch was wonderfully cold.

We had the vegetarian schnitzel with mushroom sauce. My partner had it with fries, and I had it with fried potatoes. Unfortunately, two things have to be said: the mushroom sauce was more like a mush (perhaps it was made from soup they'd used earlier?) and the fried potatoes were barely browned and partly overcooked. A real shame, because the veggie schnitzel itself was excellent.

Everything was top-notch, plus a very clearly laid out menu with gluten-free and lactose-free options marked. If we come back to Aachen, we'll definitely go back to Hühnerdieb 👍🏻. Extra points for the service staff.

We used to love coming here, but something has changed – perhaps the owner? Unfortunately, the schnitzel this time was probably the worst I've ever eaten in a restaurant: tough, dry, and definitely not worth the €20! On the other hand, the sauerbraten and black pudding were truly excellent – ​​top-notch in taste and highly recommended. The service was generally okay, but a bit uncoordinated: the table next to us arrived much later and had almost finished their food before we even got anything. That was a bit disappointing. Bottom line: If you avoid the schnitzel, you can still eat well here...

An extremely pleasant place with friendly and welcoming people. The food is of the highest quality and truly delicious. I have been a guest at this restaurant since 2021 and always take my family from Brazil with me when they visit. Today there were six of us, and I had forgotten to make a reservation. I was told that the restaurant was fully booked and a large group of guests would be arriving soon. Seeing my disappointment and sadness, the manager/owner/manager rearranged the reserved tables, offered us a table, and allowed us to introduce our family to the delicacies of Germany. The friendliness of the service staff and the friendliness of this manager truly touched us, and we are grateful. I recommend this restaurant for its warmth, pleasant atmosphere, courtesy and friendliness, and the delicious food served here every day. Thank you all very much!

We only came for drinks and the staff were friendly but slightly slow to arrive and to bring the Kölsch but they were friendly and all smiles. The drinks were as expected. Fresh and good.

As a table of 6 we were taken care of quickly. The waiters spoke English very well as we struggled with speaking German. Food was great and lots of it. Prices were good for quantity, quantity and service. Would eat there again!

It was really delicious. However, my wife and I didn't realize we can't eat much, so we ordered two dishes and left a lot. I want to let you know that it wasn't because it wasn't tasty. The mushroom cream schnitzel and goulash were both delicious, and the beer was delicious too.

Went to Aachen for a quick visit and wanted to try traditional German food, found this restaurant while strolling through the city center. The food is authentic and the service is great. Would recommend the schnitzel, the portions are hearty.

If you like hearty brewery fare, this is the place for you. Seasonal and vegetarian dishes are also on the menu. Prices are fair and reasonable. We were there with 8+ people, and everyone had their food at the same time. It fell silent at the table because everyone was satisfied. Unfortunately, not all restaurants can manage that anymore.

I was visiting my colleague in Aachen and were looking for a cozy place to eat something in the evening and came across the "Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb." When we arrived, the place was quite busy, but the two of us managed to get a table. We had a Gaffel Wiess for drinks, followed by a Kranz Kölsch beer. We both had the spare ribs for dinner, since it was Spare Ribs Wednesday :) I've never eaten such good spare ribs with so many good fries. The dips seemed to be homemade and were delicious! Highly recommended!

We ordered pork knuckle, but definitely was not as good as the ones we tasted in Bavaria...also lots of flys hanging about which wasn't exactly appetizing

The name of the centrally located restaurant refers to the nearby fountain with the sculpture of a Hühnerdieb (chicken thief). It is a very popular place and I was lucky to find the last free table outside. Three very friendly and professional waitresses and waiters took care of me in turns. Since my small round table with a potted plant was shaking on the cobble stoned ground a waitress put some beer mats under one of the metallic table-legs. They especially advertise here the Kölsch beer by Gaffel, the typical top-fermented beer from Cologne, served in cylindrical glasses called 'Stange'. The drink came fast, for the food I had to wait quite some time, but it was worth it. My choice had been a 'Sauerbraten', which many consider as Germany's national dish. It is beef, heavily marinated in wine and vinegar, but in its Rhenish version - as here - sweetened with usually raisins, sugar beet syrup and ginger bread from Aachen and served with 'Rotkohl und Kartoffelklösse', thus Red Cabbage and Potato Dumplings. Payment by credit card at the table was possible. The interior - as I saw - looks rather modern and not with the cosy, traditional atmosphere as some other centrally located restaurants of Aachen, specializing in German food.

Estuve allí cuatro veces. Me quedé dentro dos veces y fuera las otras dos. En general fue una experiencia agradable, aunque una vez el tiempo de espera fue más largo de lo esperado. La otra vez había un montón de moscas molestas y desagradables en la terraza, pero le echamos la culpa al tiempo. El escalope está bien, pero el codillo de cerdo y el “flammkuchen” están por encima de la media. Del mismo modo el gulash no está nada mal. La cerveza local combina con la mayoría de los platos de carne. El personal es amable y generalmente hace lo mejor que puede. El baño seria 8. 5 / 10 . No es una mala idea si estás en el centro de Achen.

Unfortunately, the schnitzel was tough and didn't taste particularly good. The quality had declined significantly. However, the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was friendly. All in all, the value for money wasn't right.

We ate there on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The "Julchen's Bester" salad still had sand (dirt), the turkey schnitzel wasn't seasoned at all. The pasta was overcooked, and the goulash sauce tasted like it was almost exclusively goulash seasoning. The only positive thing was the friendly and attentive service.

We ate well. The dishes were very generous. The quality was reasonable for the price.

We wanted to sit at an apparently free table, but were then told in the most rude manner that it was already occupied. When we asked where there was still space, the only response was "NOTHER"... We then left. It was a real shame, and not least, very unprofessional.

The dining room was decorated differently than the old pictures suggest. It was a complete mess despite a confirmed reservation made by phone. The food was okay, the service was very friendly and attentive (5 stars), but sorry, there are better places in Aachen.

Von außen ein ganz nettes Restaurant. Es war ein Freitagabend, das Restaurant war zu dieser Zeit ca. zur Hälfte gefüllt. Wir (3 Männer mit großem Hunger und immer durstig) sind vom Service-Angestellten an einen freien Tisch geführt worden. Aber das wars auch vom Service, mehr haben wir davon nicht gesehen. Nachdem wir 10 Minuten am Tisch gewartet haben und das Personal ist ständig an unserem Tisch vorbeilief, ohne dass wir wenigstens schon mal Getränke bestellen konnten, geschweige denn eine Karte bekommen haben, sind wir wieder aufgestanden und gegangen. Sowas kann man in der Gastronomie nicht bringen, schon gar nicht in einem „besseren“ Restaurant.

The restaurant is centrally located right on Rathausplatz. It offers plenty of seating both inside and outside. Everything was excellent during our visit! Despite the holiday and lunchtime, the waitress was prompt, friendly, and courteous. Both the drinks and the ordered dishes were served promptly. The food was generously sized, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious!

Nice restaurant right next to the rathaus of Aachen. Nice atmosphere, good music and a decent variety of tasty vegan options. The portion sizes are very generous and fairly priced and the food is tasty. I recommend the balkan schnitzel, or the brewster schnitzel, instead of the mushroom schnitzel. In terms of vegan options, the vegan currywurst and the vegan soy schnitzel are recommendable. Overall, if you are looking for some German food in the centre of Aachen, this is a good option

Today we were guests at the pub in the late afternoon/early evening with our two kids. The service is very friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. The selection of food and drinks is completely sufficient and the food is served quickly. My Himmel un Äärd was really tasty and the other family members really enjoyed it too. The prices were completely okay.

We came to Germany in search of schnitzel and we found a great one. Perfectly crispy, full of flavor, and so big it nearly needed its own table. The beer hit the spot too. But what truly made the experience stand out, though, was our waiter: witty, and effortlessly welcoming. He turned a good meal into a memorable one. We’ll definitely be back!

During my visit to Aachen, I had the pleasure of dining at Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb, a restaurant with a welcoming and typically Bavarian atmosphere. From the moment I entered, the warm, traditional environment made me feel immediately at ease, with rustic decor and friendly, attentive service. I chose to taste the Spätzle mit Schweinefleisch und Pilzen, a rich and tasty dish that exceeded my expectations. The spätzle was perfectly cooked, soft and wrapped in a delicious creamy mushroom sauce, while the pork was tender and tasty. Every bite was an explosion of authentic flavors, typical of German cuisine. "Ein Genuss für den Gaumen!" The atmosphere of the place, lively but never chaotic, made the experience even more pleasant. Furthermore, the selection of beers is excellent and perfectly matches the dishes offered. "Prost!" I highly recommend Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb to anyone who wants to enjoy real German cuisine in a warm and authentic environment. "Hier isst man wie bei Oma!"

Location: Top, it couldn't be better! Unfortunately I didn't see the inside of the restaurant because I was sitting outside. Operation/Service: At the beginning it was very quick, the table was barely cleared, it wasn't wiped down or anything, and you were given the card straight away. After less than 2 minutes you were asked what you wanted and then you ordered...the drinks came within 5 minutes. Then you were asked every 2 minutes by different service staff whether everything was okay, well okay so far, but what wasn't okay was the fact that you then had to wait an unbelievable 56 minutes for the food. Which unfortunately was still partly cold. Fries cold & the schnitzel / sauce lukewarm... Accompaniment was the currywurst, which was also cold. So sorry, but I might expect something like that in a cafe chain but not in a restaurant like this, at a location like this, with the rating... You weren't even asked for mayo/ketchup, unfortunately you didn't have the opportunity to ask for it yourself because no one came and the food would have just gotten colder. But what's strange is that at other tables that came after us or were there before, the bowl of mayo/ketchup was automatically added without hesitation. Unfortunately not for us. However, I have to point out that the employees were nice, even if they came across as a bit stressed. And if you ignore the waiting time and cold, it was still tasty. The fries weren't frozen goods either, and if they were, they were of very high quality. Schnitzel seemed to have been fresh too. I can't say exactly whether the mushroom cream sauce was a convenience product. It could be, but given the fact that the mushrooms themselves were fresh, I suspect not. So it would definitely have tasted much better warm. Price/performance of the dishes we ordered was okay if you ignore everything else. And you definitely got full! Therefore 3 stars, but rated factually and objectively, with “criticism” to improve. But I think we were just unlucky today & normally things go faster, everything is a little more attentive & then you get 4 to 5 stars, quite easy.

The inn offers an authentic ambience that is exactly what you would expect from a traditional inn. The service is fast and attentive, but also a bit pushing and impatient. Nevertheless, the staff is proactive and concerned about the well-being of the guests. The goulash soup is excellent – ​​spicy, strong and the taste is to the point. Unfortunately, the bread served with it can't keep up as it's rather boring and doesn't really go well with the soup. Overall, a solid visit with a few minor drawbacks.

I had reserved and stated that there was a small child with me because of a high chair. When we arrived, one of the high tables was reserved for us. We then asked if we could move because of the children's chair. That wasn't a problem then. It's a shame that it wasn't taken into account from the start. Unfortunately I didn't like the knuckle at all and was disappointed.
