While in Aachen for 5 days, we had an excellent dinner on our 3rd evening. The dishes are excellent and served in large quantities. The servers are adorable and attentive, we highly recommend!

We came to Germany in search of schnitzel and we found a great one. Perfectly crispy, full of flavor, and so big it nearly needed its own table. The beer hit the spot too. But what truly made the experience stand out, though, was our waiter: witty, and effortlessly welcoming. He turned a good meal into a memorable one. We’ll definitely be back!

During my visit to Aachen, I had the pleasure of dining at Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb, a restaurant with a welcoming and typically Bavarian atmosphere. From the moment I entered, the warm, traditional environment made me feel immediately at ease, with rustic decor and friendly, attentive service. I chose to taste the Spätzle mit Schweinefleisch und Pilzen, a rich and tasty dish that exceeded my expectations. The spätzle was perfectly cooked, soft and wrapped in a delicious creamy mushroom sauce, while the pork was tender and tasty. Every bite was an explosion of authentic flavors, typical of German cuisine. "Ein Genuss für den Gaumen!" The atmosphere of the place, lively but never chaotic, made the experience even more pleasant. Furthermore, the selection of beers is excellent and perfectly matches the dishes offered. "Prost!" I highly recommend Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb to anyone who wants to enjoy real German cuisine in a warm and authentic environment. "Hier isst man wie bei Oma!"

Location: Top, it couldn't be better! Unfortunately I didn't see the inside of the restaurant because I was sitting outside. Operation/Service: At the beginning it was very quick, the table was barely cleared, it wasn't wiped down or anything, and you were given the card straight away. After less than 2 minutes you were asked what you wanted and then you ordered...the drinks came within 5 minutes. Then you were asked every 2 minutes by different service staff whether everything was okay, well okay so far, but what wasn't okay was the fact that you then had to wait an unbelievable 56 minutes for the food. Which unfortunately was still partly cold. Fries cold & the schnitzel / sauce lukewarm... Accompaniment was the currywurst, which was also cold. So sorry, but I might expect something like that in a cafe chain but not in a restaurant like this, at a location like this, with the rating... You weren't even asked for mayo/ketchup, unfortunately you didn't have the opportunity to ask for it yourself because no one came and the food would have just gotten colder. But what's strange is that at other tables that came after us or were there before, the bowl of mayo/ketchup was automatically added without hesitation. Unfortunately not for us. However, I have to point out that the employees were nice, even if they came across as a bit stressed. And if you ignore the waiting time and cold, it was still tasty. The fries weren't frozen goods either, and if they were, they were of very high quality. Schnitzel seemed to have been fresh too. I can't say exactly whether the mushroom cream sauce was a convenience product. It could be, but given the fact that the mushrooms themselves were fresh, I suspect not. So it would definitely have tasted much better warm. Price/performance of the dishes we ordered was okay if you ignore everything else. And you definitely got full! Therefore 3 stars, but rated factually and objectively, with “criticism” to improve. But I think we were just unlucky today & normally things go faster, everything is a little more attentive & then you get 4 to 5 stars, quite easy.

Visit on February 19, 2025, I've been meaning to post for a long time! There is still a real pub feeling here, a super nice and helpful (help with my wife's wheelchair) landlord looked after us very well, the food and drinks were great! If we're in Aachen again, we'll come back!

Absolutely fantastic service and beer! My friend and I spent a good bit of time here drinking and our waiter was top notch. He was friendly, good, and fast. Couldn't ask for a better experience while stopping for a pint!

The inn offers an authentic ambience that is exactly what you would expect from a traditional inn. The service is fast and attentive, but also a bit pushing and impatient. Nevertheless, the staff is proactive and concerned about the well-being of the guests. The goulash soup is excellent – ​​spicy, strong and the taste is to the point. Unfortunately, the bread served with it can't keep up as it's rather boring and doesn't really go well with the soup. Overall, a solid visit with a few minor drawbacks.

The portions are very large. We didn't like it. I had a mushroom cream schnitzel. The sauce was very thick and sweet. Salad didn't taste like anything. Service was okay. It's very loud in the restaurant. We won't be coming back

I had reserved and stated that there was a small child with me because of a high chair. When we arrived, one of the high tables was reserved for us. We then asked if we could move because of the children's chair. That wasn't a problem then. It's a shame that it wasn't taken into account from the start. Unfortunately I didn't like the knuckle at all and was disappointed.

The beef soup is really stewed and delicious. The lettuce salad is also very well seasoned and suits my taste. The fried pork chops are not too salty. There are not many people when we go in the off-season and the location is convenient. The only drawback is that the menu changes every day and I didn't eat pig's feet~~ It was my regret at the last stop after leaving Germany~

We reserved a table online for a Sunday lunch and were immediately given a free seat at the specified time. A reservation is definitely recommended at this time. Our dishes, onion roast beef and Viennese style schnitzel, are both recommended, both in terms of taste and portion size (there are decent portions here!). The service is attentive, unobtrusively friendly and fits into the overall image of the restaurant. The prices are reasonable. We will definitely come back on another visit to Aachen!

The service was very friendly and quick, but I wouldn't come back to eat. Fries and salad were ok. The plate was warmer than my roast! So it came from the microwave. The onions were almost raw, which didn't go well with the frying. The sauce was sparse and was served to me in a drinking glass when I asked. My colleague had red cabbage and dumplings with it, only lukewarm. There was a drink on the house. There is no saying here, yes, we pass it on, people work carelessly in the kitchen here. Maybe it's enough for spare ribs, schnitzel and citizens but then it stops. As already mentioned, the service was good

We were there after the Christmas market. It was relatively full there, but luckily we were lucky enough to get a table. We had the onion braise and the game goulash. The portions were huge and we were very full at the end. What I was grateful for: The food was very lightly salted, which I was grateful for. Gladly again.

A small restaurant. It was very crowded, so we only got a high table, which was a bit awkward for sitting and eating. Service was very attentive and nice. The sausage with fries was tasty, only the sauce was spread very sparingly, it could have been a little more for the price.

Unfortunately, we weren't impressed with the food at all. Our not at all demanding 6 year old child left the spaetzle. Of course we also tried these out to check what the child had again. I wouldn't eat them either. My wife couldn't eat her schnitzel either. The sauerbraten was ok for the price. The staff is overwhelmed, which of course affects the service. We were served at the beginning and then again when we wanted the bill. After asking the waiter whether it was tasty, we pointed to the still full plates and told him. An espresso on the house was offered! Please? Make up for inedible spaetzle with an espresso. Thank you. We definitely won't come again. Ambience and food do not correspond to the reviews.

As a non food critic but regular guy: these guys got it down; -Good food, not expensive -Amazing service (nice staff and fast) -And of course.. good beer. 10/10 would recommend. Even my girlfriend wasn’t mad we went to the same spot twice..

Tijdens de Kerstmarkt kun je niet reserveren, maar gelukkig kregen we snel een tafel. Prima schnitzels met lekkere sausjes en smakelijke friet. Ook een schaaltje verse gemengde salade. Lekkere biertjes en gulle glazen wijn. Ook hele smakelijke ijsthee.

The skinny waiter with glasses was arrogant as hell. Spilled wine on my hand while serving us drinks, I didn't blame him, just asked for a napkin and he handed me a dirty smelly rag to wipe my hands and clean the table . Ridiculous and attitude to service.

If you want to have a more traditional German/European dining experience as a foreigner in Germany, Wirtshaus is a great choice. We were there over the weekend and I was happy to see that there was a good variety of cuisine on the menu including options for vegetarians/vegans. We had ordered baked potatoes, one with turkey and one with shrimps and both of them were really good with a generous serving of sauce and salad. The portion size is quite large and you definitely get the bang for your buck! Though do note that they do not have any chicken dishes on the menu. Apart from that the service was impeccable, the staff was extremely friendly and also spoke English and offered us an English menu as well. The restaurant was quite packed on the Saturday and since the tables there are arranged quite close to each other, it felt a bit overwhelming crowded so that was the only downside for me.

I was surprised that the dish tasted so good here. I ordered sauerbraten, which is neither too sour nor as salty as other German dishes. The restaurant has a good atmosphere. This was probably one of the dishes I enjoyed best in Germany. And the waiters are very friendly. I would very much like to come back.

Fuck me fat! All very tasty. Maybe a barbecue sauce with the spare ribs. Otherwise the aioli was very tasty with the fries. The Kölsch is also wonderfully drinkable, and you can also order a keg and fill yourself up. Fantastic!!!

We spontaneously went to Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb. A nice gentleman gave us his place at the table and we were able to sit down in a comfortable place. The guys in service were just great and very entertaining. Additionally, the food was simply excellent. If we are nearby we will definitely come back.

And once again we drank and ate deliciously...great staff It's always nice to be with friends and colleagues...

We wanted to eat something classic on our trip to Aachen and ended up here because the Google reviews were so good... We ordered Rhenish sauerbraten. While the service and ambience were good, the food disappointed us! The sauerbraten was tough and had little taste... There was very little sauce, but at least it was available upon request! Also, the food was only lukewarm... Too bad! Conclusion: Maybe the other dishes taste good, but sauerbraten was NOT RECOMMENDED for us!

Afortunadamente, reservamos mesa el día anterior, porque a las 7 : 30 pm un miércoles mojado por la noche estaban rechazando a la gente. La clientela era una buena mezcla de lugareños y turistas. Tuvimos un gran asiento en la ventana, y la comida, bebidas y servicio eran todos excelentes. Ambos schnitzels estaban muy buenos, con una ensalada considerable y papas fritas “apropiadas”. El personal era atento pero no intrusivo y muy alegre. Fue una de las comidas más destacadas de nuestras tres semanas en Europa. Sin duda una visita obligada si estás en Aquisgrán.

In search of local dishes (sausages among others), we came across this terrace by chance (be careful, it is on a slope :)) Very friendly service, and the dishes are very good, ideal for lunch. Also quite a bit of space inside.

Not a well cooked food. Part of it still raw and another dish was burnt. Still the pork was not fresh. The taste was awful. I would not recommend it. Even I explained to the waiter their reaction was very rude. 100% Sorry!!! See photos attached.

The food is generally delicious, but given that Saturday is pork knuckle day, we were fobbed off for the second time at 6:00 p.m. with “Knocks are out”. At least we didn't get the two orders of ketchup for the now cold and dry fries. The tip thing took care of itself...

It's just wonderful to have such a great restaurant in the middle of the city. Everything is perfect here: service, food, drinks and the ambience. The rosé wine in particular was reminiscent of a wonderful vacation in Spain. You also have to mention the brisk service, which made your wish come true.

Good and comfortable atmosphere, good food: I liked the sausage with mushroom cream and the Balcan Schnitzel. The best thing, however, was the kind and attentive treatment that Sundos gave us!!

I ate here yesterday after a long bike ride from my hometown Almelo and ordered a soy schnitzel that was indistinguishable from a normal schnitzel, the people were very nice too :)

I didn't order food just had drinks. On a glorious sunny day in Aachen what can I say the outdoor seating area is excellent. The Barman even agreed to help me charge up mobile. Try the banana flavour wheat beer it was superb. Good service and a fine establishment.

Because of the great weather, the three of us wanted to get a table outside at the Hühnerdieb at 6 p.m., but everything was packed. After we had taken another walk through the old town, a table was available for us at 7 p.m. Ordering drinks and food was quick, even if we were told that the meal would take at least 30 minutes. We ordered Kölsch and 3x mushroom cream schnitzel. Drinks came quickly, food after half an hour. The schnitzels weren't big, but they were thick, the mushroom cream sauce was tasty and the large portion of fries was tasty. The side salad was also good. The service was friendly and attentive.

We like coming to Aachen. First to Hünerbein, then to the inn at Hühnerdieb. Highly recommended restaurant with extremely friendly service. Even though there is a lot to do, the people there are just nice. Of course, the food and drinks are also very good. The toilets are sparkling clean. We would be happy to come back when we are in Aachen from Moers.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area, so I was sure to make a reservation there during our trip to Aachen. Upon arrival, we were lucky enough to sit on the terrace, on the beautiful Hühnermarkt surrounded by the historical buildings of the Aldstadt. Surprisingly, the menu featured some non-alcoholic beers that also came in a half liter variant, and the large Allgäuer Edelweissbeer was very refreshing. I ordered a Braumeister Schnitzel, served with a sauce of mushrooms, onion and bacon, and opted for a side of baked potatoes instead of fries. Lucky for us we were sitting in these beautiful surroundings, so we had something to look at during the first 50 minutes of waiting. After talking to the waiter, he would check on our order but it took an additional 20 minutes for it to arrive (by that time, it was already 21:00). The long-awaited schnitzel was well-breaded and crunchy, but still tender on the inside. The meat itself did not have a lot of flavor, but the well-seasoned sauce made up for that and gave a lot of character to the dish. The baked potatoes were quite dry, but appeared to be less fat than the side of fries that usually comes with the dish. I feel that my judgement of the dinner is somewhat affected by the long waiting times we were faced with. As a gesture for the 1h10 of waiting, the staff offered to take our drinks on the house, which was very much appreciated. I would still recommend the place as I think it is one of the top spots in Aachen, but be prepared for longer waiting times on busy weekend nights.

Tuve un buen almuerzo de domingo con amigos. 6 adultos, 3 niños y un perro, por desgracia en el interior ya que no había espacio en la terraza para todos nosotros (hemos reservado con antelación). Servicio amable (el camarero era súper - divertido) , buen shnitzel. Definitivamente el schnitzel es la especialidad para pedir aquí. Pero no tiene un menú extenso (sin Schweinshaxe, spatze para adultos por mencionar 2 platos). La cerveza es buena - no excepcional - pero encaja perfectamente con la comida servida.

Delicious food, lively atmosphere, great music. Servers kinda mixed up our order but caught their mistake quickly, apologised in a humourous manner and all was well. They have 10L beer keg, which is impressive and attractive if you're a large group and looking to have fun!
