If you want to have a more traditional German/European dining experience as a foreigner in Germany, Wirtshaus is a great choice. We were there over the weekend and I was happy to see that there was a good variety of cuisine on the menu including options for vegetarians/vegans. We had ordered baked potatoes, one with turkey and one with shrimps and both of them were really good with a generous serving of sauce and salad. The portion size is quite large and you definitely get the bang for your buck! Though do note that they do not have any chicken dishes on the menu. Apart from that the service was impeccable, the staff was extremely friendly and also spoke English and offered us an English menu as well. The restaurant was quite packed on the Saturday and since the tables there are arranged quite close to each other, it felt a bit overwhelming crowded so that was the only downside for me.

Nice restaurant right in the center. We had schnitzel. It was OK, but we wouldn't order again. The breading had an indefinable taste of its own.

I was surprised that the dish tasted so good here. I ordered sauerbraten, which is neither too sour nor as salty as other German dishes. The restaurant has a good atmosphere. This was probably one of the dishes I enjoyed best in Germany. And the waiters are very friendly. I would very much like to come back.

Fuck me fat! All very tasty. Maybe a barbecue sauce with the spare ribs. Otherwise the aioli was very tasty with the fries. The Kölsch is also wonderfully drinkable, and you can also order a keg and fill yourself up. Fantastic!!!

We spontaneously went to Wirtshaus am Hühnerdieb. A nice gentleman gave us his place at the table and we were able to sit down in a comfortable place. The guys in service were just great and very entertaining. Additionally, the food was simply excellent. If we are nearby we will definitely come back.

We wanted to eat something classic on our trip to Aachen and ended up here because the Google reviews were so good... We ordered Rhenish sauerbraten. While the service and ambience were good, the food disappointed us! The sauerbraten was tough and had little taste... There was very little sauce, but at least it was available upon request! Also, the food was only lukewarm... Too bad! Conclusion: Maybe the other dishes taste good, but sauerbraten was NOT RECOMMENDED for us!

In search of local dishes (sausages among others), we came across this terrace by chance (be careful, it is on a slope :)) Very friendly service, and the dishes are very good, ideal for lunch. Also quite a bit of space inside.

Not a well cooked food. Part of it still raw and another dish was burnt. Still the pork was not fresh. The taste was awful. I would not recommend it. Even I explained to the waiter their reaction was very rude. 100% Sorry!!! See photos attached.

Delicious food at this Wirthaus in the middle of Aachen! Extensive menu and daily menus. A real German kitchen! Atmosphere is a bit more modern, service was excellent and fast. Ideal for a real German evening meal.

The food is generally delicious, but given that Saturday is pork knuckle day, we were fobbed off for the second time at 6:00 p.m. with “Knocks are out”. At least we didn't get the two orders of ketchup for the now cold and dry fries. The tip thing took care of itself...

Delicious food, good beer, great atmosphere and the friendliest and most attentive service you can imagine. I've been there many times, always great!

It's just wonderful to have such a great restaurant in the middle of the city. Everything is perfect here: service, food, drinks and the ambience. The rosé wine in particular was reminiscent of a wonderful vacation in Spain. You also have to mention the brisk service, which made your wish come true.

Good and comfortable atmosphere, good food: I liked the sausage with mushroom cream and the Balcan Schnitzel. The best thing, however, was the kind and attentive treatment that Sundos gave us!!

I ate here yesterday after a long bike ride from my hometown Almelo and ordered a soy schnitzel that was indistinguishable from a normal schnitzel, the people were very nice too :)

I didn't order food just had drinks. On a glorious sunny day in Aachen what can I say the outdoor seating area is excellent. The Barman even agreed to help me charge up mobile. Try the banana flavour wheat beer it was superb. Good service and a fine establishment.

Because of the great weather, the three of us wanted to get a table outside at the Hühnerdieb at 6 p.m., but everything was packed. After we had taken another walk through the old town, a table was available for us at 7 p.m. Ordering drinks and food was quick, even if we were told that the meal would take at least 30 minutes. We ordered Kölsch and 3x mushroom cream schnitzel. Drinks came quickly, food after half an hour. The schnitzels weren't big, but they were thick, the mushroom cream sauce was tasty and the large portion of fries was tasty. The side salad was also good. The service was friendly and attentive.

We like coming to Aachen. First to Hünerbein, then to the inn at Hühnerdieb. Highly recommended restaurant with extremely friendly service. Even though there is a lot to do, the people there are just nice. Of course, the food and drinks are also very good. The toilets are sparkling clean. We would be happy to come back when we are in Aachen from Moers.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area, so I was sure to make a reservation there during our trip to Aachen. Upon arrival, we were lucky enough to sit on the terrace, on the beautiful Hühnermarkt surrounded by the historical buildings of the Aldstadt. Surprisingly, the menu featured some non-alcoholic beers that also came in a half liter variant, and the large Allgäuer Edelweissbeer was very refreshing. I ordered a Braumeister Schnitzel, served with a sauce of mushrooms, onion and bacon, and opted for a side of baked potatoes instead of fries. Lucky for us we were sitting in these beautiful surroundings, so we had something to look at during the first 50 minutes of waiting. After talking to the waiter, he would check on our order but it took an additional 20 minutes for it to arrive (by that time, it was already 21:00). The long-awaited schnitzel was well-breaded and crunchy, but still tender on the inside. The meat itself did not have a lot of flavor, but the well-seasoned sauce made up for that and gave a lot of character to the dish. The baked potatoes were quite dry, but appeared to be less fat than the side of fries that usually comes with the dish. I feel that my judgement of the dinner is somewhat affected by the long waiting times we were faced with. As a gesture for the 1h10 of waiting, the staff offered to take our drinks on the house, which was very much appreciated. I would still recommend the place as I think it is one of the top spots in Aachen, but be prepared for longer waiting times on busy weekend nights.

Had a nice Sunday lunch with friends. 6 adults, 3 kids and a dog, unfortunately inside as there was no space at the terrace for all of us (we have booked in advance). Friendly service (the waiter was super-funny), good shnitzel. Definitely the schnitzel is the specialty to order here. But you do not have an extensive menu (no Schweinshaxe, spatze for adult to mention 2 plates). The beer is good - not exceptional - but fits perfectly with the served food.

Delicious food, lively atmosphere, great music. Servers kinda mixed up our order but caught their mistake quickly, apologised in a humourous manner and all was well. They have 10L beer keg, which is impressive and attractive if you're a large group and looking to have fun!

Lured by good reviews, I ate schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, fries and salad! The best part was the salad! I have rarely had such tasteless food! Salt was completely missing! Zero taste! Does the chef taste anything else? He had enough time to smoke in front of the guests! The service seemed tense and lacked any composure. That's not how you survive in times like these! Make an effort! Nobody can survive on one-off walk-in customers alone!

The food is very tasty and meets every expectation of a pub, despite this I usually visit the place for a liquid refreshment. Whether it's a pole, a wreath or a barrel, everything is on offer. The very courteous and always professional service takes great care of you and I personally only know of a few restaurants where the beer I ordered is on my outdoor table in under 30 seconds, like here.

Das Essen ist gut für ein Wirtshaus. Freundlicher Service. Allerdings wäre der Treppenaufgang zu den Toiletten und auch die Damen-Toiletten renovierungsbedürftig. Eine regelmässige Kontrolle der Toiletten wäre empfehlenswert.

We went to Aachen for the day from Maastricht and wanted some good schnitzel. We found it here, it was excellent! The service was awesome and the prices were very reasonable. The Gaffel Lemon radler was very cold and refreshing. It is a very nice restaurant/pub with attractive decor. I am looking forward to visiting again someday.

We were lucky enough to eat here on Spare Ribs Day. What a huge portion and very tasty. Also the Brauhaus fries. The baked potato with mushrooms and salad, a poem. Nice, cheerful service. And of course the good Gaffel Kölsch “us Kölle”. It's a shame that we... Because of the bad weather we couldn't sit outside directly at the chicken market. We'd love to come back when the weather improves!

This restaurant is absolutely recommended! There were 15 of us there and we all got our food quickly. The food is super tasty and the portions are large! The chef and the other employees are very friendly and very entertaining. We had a great evening there and would love to come back!

Unfortunately, apart from the location, I can't think of anything positive about the restaurant. First of all it started with the fact that I was given the wrong food. Then you wait for cutlery and forever for the bill. The schnitzel was almost inedible. 2 cm thick, sinewy, fatty and only tasted of rancid fat, which it was also dripping with. Cream sauce from the bag, fries from the frozen food. Service was super unfriendly. Canteen level that has absolutely nothing to do with a pub.

Super delicious food at fair prices. The portions are really sufficient and we always enjoyed it very much. The attentive and professional service is particularly worth mentioning.

Moderate schnitzel. Breading is soggy and everything is drowned in the sauce.

We've been here for dinner a few times now. For vegetarians and vegans there is a good selection of schnitzel dishes that are very tasty! If you like drinking IPA, you should try the Gaffel Sonnenhopfen. The staff, who are super attentive and very friendly, deserve special mention! Absolute recommendation!

First of all, it should be said that the service is attentive and friendly and the restaurant is cozy. Unfortunately, the food here is not recommended. We ordered a Viennese style schnitzel, the brewery goulash and a vegan schnitzel. The schnitzels with potatoes in particular tasted like unseasoned frozen food. And that at a price of around €19 per dish. It should also be noted that the potatoes were ordered as an exchange (for fries) and meant an additional charge of €2.50.

The food didn't taste good. It was also quite expensive for what you get. Hunger and appetite were not satisfied.

So that was really cheeky. I was pleasantly surprised at first when I found vegan schnitzel on the menu, but when the food arrived the joy quickly disappeared. I asked beforehand if I could have potatoes instead of fries and was told yes. An additional €2.50 was then debited from the receipt. Ridiculous! The food was also ridiculous. Vegan schnitzel under 5 tons of onions and with a pile of poorly fried lukewarm potatoes. Plus a small loveless salad. And all for €19.90. Really not recommended.

Quaint pub, nice staff, good atmosphere. The menu mainly offers meat dishes, my Brauhausschnitzel with plenty of very good fries and a small salad was tasty and more than plentiful.

Good inn in downtown Aachen. Just like you imagine a good pub to be! Food really good, top service and value for money. Toilets currently under renovation 05.2024 (small construction site on the men's toilet, but not so bad)

Einfach toll! Das Essen, das Ambiente und die Laune unter den Kellner*innen einfach stimmig. Man fühlt sich wohl! Wer ein lockeres und entspanntes Kellner*innenteam und ein schönes Ambiente sucht, bei dem sich gleichzeitig um das Wohl der Gäste gesorgt wird, ist hier genau richtig.
