The liver was delicious (I think it was seasonal). Well presented, very tasty. Also served with a local beer. Service was friendly and super quick. The atmosphere is quaint. Nothing to complain about. One star deducted for service because you can't pay by credit card (or only partially). Unfortunately, I overlooked this at the entrance.

House specialties are something one should really try here. We tried 3 or 4 of them during our 2 visits in there, and all of them tasted perfect.

Food is generally good, we had no issues with the service until we asked for a bill. They only accept maistro and giropay cards and some local German cards, so I ask what card is ok as I have several cards. I was hoping giropay is like a global method and one of my cards is compatible with it. The waiter was kind of pissed off already when I told him can he try one card I was hoping to work. But in the end we need to go to the ATM that is nearby. I walked to the front and when my partner arrived back the waiter asked me to show him the bill, but I left it at the table or at the bathroom I'm not sure. He accused us of lying, and keeping it in our pocket, just that he need to walk back to the computer, when I emptied my pocket showing him no, he became kind of borderline aggressive, grumpy. One of the weirdest restaurant visits with his aggressive attitude. I'm not sure why I'm 2025 at a restaurant in the city centre in a tourist place that only accepts local German cards and maistro cards what noone is using anymore, but more I'm not sure why a waiter is so grumpy, bit aggressive by words, accuse their customers with things they didn't commit. There are so many nice places in Aachen even nearby, I will choose another one next time for sure.

In 2025, in a traditional inn in a city that aspires to be seen as a global city and attracts a corresponding audience with events like the CHIO, you will NOT be able to pay by credit card. Embarrassing.

A disastrous experience before entering. I've known this restaurant for years, and despite the fact that the service is often not characterized by friendliness, we continue to come back thanks to the high-quality, typical German cuisine. However, this time, we invited some friends over, and when we tried to open the door, a person yelled at us rudely and unpleasantly. We realized the restaurant was closed, and given our incomprehension, the person made no attempt to explain anything in a polite and service-oriented way. They clearly don't care about losing customers.

Beer is delicious. The ambiance is pleasant, and the food is moderately good.

On Saturday 21 December 2019, we ate here with six people, from 17:05 to 18:18. We found it a cozy and atmospheric location, where it was pleasant to stay. The dishes were well prepared, although we felt that we missed some pronounced flavors that we have sometimes experienced elsewhere. The service was fast, perhaps even a little too fast, which made the whole thing feel a bit rushed.

Cool place. Average prices. We ate boiled and grilled pork knuckle. The boiled one was perfect, the grilled one was a bit dry but the skin was beautifully browned. The big disadvantage is the lack of the possibility to pay by card. Cash only.

The atmosphere is great and the grilled haksen is so delicious. The hall staff has changed a lot, so the service seems to have improved a lot.

We had a nice day here on the terrace to eat and drink something. On the terrace you can only pay cash which I think is fine. The food is very tasty. Service is quick and neat. The terrace is on the road which causes traffic noise from mainly city buses, but for me that is no reason not to sit here. So much to see outside.

A restaurant with a classic atmosphere, very well decorated. The food was delicious (I had pork knuckle and it was delicious) and the service was very good. But I have to lower the rating because they don't accept Visa or Mastercard. I understand why they're so classic, but not accepting cards is so last century. Although there's no law in Germany requiring all cards to be accepted, I understand their point, but we all know that cash comes and goes.

Food is decent. However, they do not accept credit cards and only accept German/European debit cards or cash, so if you are not a local resident, you will need to prepare cash.

The food was fine – nothing to complain about there. Unfortunately, the entire experience was overshadowed by the way we were treated by the staff, particularly by a woman who I believe was the manager. Towards the end of our meal, my phone accidentally fell off the table. We were seated on the upper floor, right next to the railing, and my phone landed on another guest’s table below. It was completely unintentional. It could just as easily have been a fork, a napkin, or any other normal table item – things that shouldn’t fall from one level onto another. I immediately went downstairs to apologize to the guests and retrieve my phone. I was quite upset myself – it was a brand-new phone, and I certainly didn’t want it falling three meters down. Before I could even say anything, I was approached by a woman (likely the manager) in a rude and unwelcoming manner. Without acknowledging the guests at the table or me, she snatched my phone and started yelling at me as I approached. When she finally finished her outburst, she handed me the phone and treated me as if I had thrown it on purpose, possibly under the influence – which couldn’t be further from the truth. We were simply eating, calmly and respectfully. And this is, after all, a brewhouse – a place where a relaxed and friendly atmosphere should be the norm. What’s more, I noticed that other tables upstairs had small barriers or railings installed to prevent items from falling down. Ours did not. A simple precaution like this could have avoided the entire situation. Unfortunately, the same unpleasant tone continued when we went to pay. We tried to pay with a Dutch debit card that also has Visa functionality. The reaction was almost aggressive – we were bluntly told that Visa and Mastercard were not accepted. While it’s fine to have limited payment options, the way this was communicated was unnecessarily hostile. I eventually paid with a Maestro card, but by that point, the experience had been thoroughly spoiled. In summary: the food is good, but the way the staff treats guests is simply unacceptable. We felt uncomfortable, unwelcome, and not treated with the basic courtesy one should expect in a restaurant.

Seeing the criticisms of some reviews, especially about the service, I was apprehensive about returning to the Aix-en-Provence brasserie after so long... too tempting nonetheless for the good memories and the immediate proximity of the hotel. But we were not disappointed: even if the server was not the friendly, funny type, he was very professional and responsive and we were served without delay. But above all the grilled pork shanks were a real delight. Still, with a closing time of 10:00 p.m., there is no risk of falling asleep on your coffee, and as has been pointed out many times, the refusal of credit cards is an aberration.

We were passing through Aachen and decided to visit this place and try a few beers. The food is nothing to complain about; it's quite tasty and served quickly, and the beer is also delicious. The service is much worse; the waiter's attitude is disgusting, with rude behavior, eye-rolling, and basically ignoring a customer (as soon as we sat down at the table, they immediately approached us and told us we needed to place an order, asked for a few minutes to look at the menu, and then asked us if we even knew what drinks were?! When we asked for the bill, they simply ignored us and walked past three times without responding at all, while only four or five tables were occupied). I do not recommend visiting this place; your mood will be ruined.

The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive.

We ate here twice and both times the food was excellent. The pork knuckle was juicy and full of flavor, and the sausages were just as tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming. A couple of downsides: the toilet was quite dirty both times, definitely needs more attention. Also, payment can be tricky. Tourists, be prepared: not all cards are accepted, so have cash with you just in case (see my photo for more info). Portions are well balanced for the price, and the authentic interior adds to the charm. We’d still love to come back for the food and atmosphere!

The restaurant is the old headquarters of the Deegra brewery in the middle of Aachen, opposite the city theater. The food was tasty and served quickly. The drinks were cold and served very quickly. The service was friendly, attentive and helpful. Unfortunately there is no outdoor area and no guest garden. But the rustic atmosphere is cozy and worth seeing. There are no dedicated parking spaces.

Nice atmosphere, good traditional german food. Maybe a bit overpriced for Germany ? They ask you to pay with Maestro which doesn't exist anymore in the 21th century. Please update your payment system and stop acting all surprised when customers come up with their modern Visa cards. ATM 5' away from the restaurant.

Nice, traditional-style brewery. The service was super friendly and prompt. We didn't even have to wait three minutes for our drinks. The food was also on the table in about 15 minutes. Everything was perfect. The food was good and the portions were very generous. If we're ever in Aachen again, we'll definitely come back. Thanks for your hospitality.

This place is fantastic! First of all, the decor is beautiful like a brown cafe, but with a lot of authentic German features. The food was even better than the decor, went here specifically for the schweinhaxe and I think the pictures speak for themselves. Absolutely delicious and surprisingly tender. Recommend this to anyone! Also some bonus points for the server, she was lovely!

We went there for dinner with the women's choir on Saturday. Everyone had a Jägerschnitzel (a kind of cutlet) with fries. I have to say the food was bland; the schnitzel was much too big and too thick. Unsuitable for a woman. And the fries weren't seasoned. Overall, I can only give the meal a 6. Best, Sonja.

Typical decor, good beer. Nice waitresses but the waiter who served us the dishes was very rude. Quality of food rather mediocre: cheese croquettes not bad, red cabbage, sauerkraut and mash really not great, overcooked beef, gelatinous gnocchi... We left without having dessert. Unable to pay by card. Edit: twice now the establishment, which clearly does not accept criticism, has filed a complaint against me with Google, first by insinuating that we have never visited them, then by attacking me for defamation! No luck: Google records all our trips, so I can prove that I was there on December 16, 2023 between 11:59 a.m. and 12:49 p.m. precisely and that my comment is honest, sincere and reflects our experience. If they do this with all the negative reviews, I understand why they have such a good rating.

We were just looking for such a place to eat and drink. Very nice and cozy. When we finally wanted to pay, it turned out that it was not possible with a Visa card. We were just 3 Euro short in cash. A little further on I withdrew money and paid without tip.

Kennen Sie das krachende Geräsch wenn man auf die Schwarte einer gegrillen Schweishaxe beisst? Danach entfaltet sich ein unglaubich intensives Aroma, was man so sonst bei keinem anderen Gericht erleben kann. Ein wunderbares Erlebnis. So etwas hatte ich erwartet, als ich im Aachener Brauhaus eine gegrillte Schweinshaxe bestellte. Nach ca. 4 Minuten wurde das Gericht serviert., was mir schon mal etwas unheimlich war. Statt der erträumten Geschmacksexplosion biss ich auf eine glibbrige Schweineschwartenmasse. Das Grillerlebnis wurde durch eine dunkelbraune Maggisauce kaschiert, die über die angeblich gegrillte Speise gegossen worden war. Ich sagte das dem Kellner, der mir versprach, das er das an den Koch weiterleiten würde. Inzwischen wurde mir der Produktionsprozess klar: Man kann eine gepökelte Schweishaxe kochen (Eisbein) oder Grillen (gegrillte Schweinshaxe) . Kochen ist einfacher und man kann dieses Produkt stundenlang im Kochwasser aufbewahren, darum erlebte ich zähe Fleischfasern. Beim Bezahlen kein Erlass, keine Entschuldigung, man ist ja so professionell und hat so etwas nicht nötig, Durchgangskundschaft halt. Prof. Dr. Günther Rötter

This restaurant is stingy and despicable, the waitstaff have a terrible attitude 1️⃣When my friend and I wanted to share food, which means we might need two extra plates, this restaurant actually said they would charge 1 euro per plate. I was laughing so hard; I've been to so many places in Europe and this is the first time I've encountered a place that charges for extra plates. The stringent nature of Germans is truly well-deserved 😅😅😅 2️⃣This restaurant does not support contactless payment methods, does not accept Visa or MasterCard, yet there's a POS machine clearly on the counter. I don't understand what kind of primitive place in the 21st century doesn't support mobile payments. What kind of inflexibility is this among Germans? 3️⃣Even if some small shops in Germany don't accept contactless payments for whatever unspoken reasons, what business is it of the boss if I find another customer in the store to exchange money? When they saw us preparing to exchange cash with another person in the store, they stopped us and said it's not allowed in Germany to exchange money with customers inside the store. Excuse me? If someone is willing to help me pay, they're solving a problem. I don't care about German rules, are Germans really this unwilling to help others? Moreover, the service attitude throughout was extremely poor. Every time we stood up from our seats, they would come over to stop us and say "please sit down on your seat and think about how you pay." In the end, they detained my friend in the store, and I had to randomly grab a college student on the street to exchange cash to pay successfully. 4️⃣The payment process was also very unfriendly. They threw the receipt on our seat and the staff ran off. After multiple attempts to wave and signal the staff to settle the bill, no one acknowledged me. So I went to the counter to ask if I could pay, and the staff very impatiently told us to go back to our seats and wait. I don't understand, I truly don't understand, what kind of money can't be received at the counter but only at the seat? So in summary, their POS-equipped counter is completely useless.

Disappointing experience!! Bad food, unfriendly service and discriminatory behavior!!!! After I passed this restaurant again I had to write this review with great disappointment. As someone who has lived in Germany for ten years, I have visited many German restaurants, but this experience was by far the worst. The quality of the food, the service and the treatment of the guests were far below my expectations. Food quality is terrible: The knuckle: This was the worst knuckle I have ever eaten. The meat was extremely tough and completely tasteless. It seemed like it was just cooked, tasted like it had no seasoning at all or no cooking at all. The Schnitzel: Equally disappointing. The schnitzel was completely overcooked, dry and hard. It lacked any juiciness and tenderness that you would expect from a 1st good schnitzel. These dishes did not represent German cuisine or traditions well. 2.Unfriendly service: The service was extremely unfriendly and even seemed discriminatory. As a Chinese, I felt like I wasn't being treated fairly. This behavior is absolutely unacceptable. When we requested additional small plates for our meal we were charged 4 euros for this. 3.Overall impression: From the food to the service to the respect for guests, this restaurant disappointed in every way. A German restaurant should embody hospitality and culinary traditions, but this one offered exactly the opposite :( I chose this restaurant based on the many positive reviews. However, based on my experience, I seriously doubt that these reviews are authentic. It's hard to believe that a restaurant with such poor quality and unfriendly service can receive so many positive reviews. I think it's possible that these reviews were manipulated but yes, I'll never come back but I still hope that the management takes this criticism seriously and takes appropriate action. As a long-time resident of Germany, I expect passion for good food and respect for guests - and not such a disappointing experience.

Visa and MasterCard were not accepted 01/2025. Isn't that strange?

Today I had meatloaf with fried potatoes. I had to complain because I only had about 80 grams of meat loaf on my plate. The waitress said they were only human. Someone accidentally cut the meat loaf too thin. But trained service staff don't bring something like that to the table. Then, in addition to the slice that was much too thin, I got a second one that was just as thin. Instead of red cabbage, I wanted a salad. It was promised, but not delivered. I found the price of 17.90 more than sporty. Won't go there anymore.
