It's funny how you just have to sit with other people. 😂 The food was great. The waiter was amazing. He was really friendly and had a great sense of humor.

Outstanding food quality and service. The Schnitzels are excellent in any form, that by itself is reason enough to be here. I tried he one with pepper sauce which was delicious. People in the next table had the Jägerschnitzel and enjoyed it a lot. In any case - highly recommended!

There are really a lot of sheep

The waiters were very friendly, like they were born for the job! The schnitzel was also very tasty! The spaetzle and cream sauce, or rather, the creamed savoy cabbage, were very hearty, and the portions were large, so you have to tolerate them, but perhaps too much for those with sensitive stomachs.

Avec un nom pareil, le restaurant fait la part belle aux schnitzel. Impossible pour nous d'aller en allemagne sans en manger. Le Schnitzelbank etait donc pour nous. Et on a pas ete déçu ! Le concept de weinstub peut etre déconcertant: on s'assoit ou il y a de la place partageant sa table avec d'autres convives. Prq pas ? L'ambiance est sympa et tres typique. La nourriture est bonne. Et le service sympa (et en français ! ). Une tres bonne adresse pour l'expérience germanique typique.

Unbelievable taste, I can barely believe my taste buds got to experience this otherworldly savour. I can only recommend if you're into southern german food. The staff is very friendly and the waiting time is fast, but nothing can overcome the taste of the food.

Probably the best schnitzel we've ever eaten! The schnitzels weren't great, but the service was simply 10/10. From the very beginning, we felt completely at home and received a super friendly welcome! :) An absolute recommendation! If we're ever in Heidelberg again, the Schnitzelbank will be our first stop!

The Weinstube Schnitzelbank is a place that not only captivates with its rustic charm, but also with an atmosphere that invites you to linger. As soon as you enter, you sense the history of the house – cozy, intimate, and full of life. The decor is rustic and lovingly designed, just as you would expect from a traditional wine tavern. 🍽️ The food? Simply amazing! The Wiener Schnitzel was golden brown and crispy, the fried potatoes perfectly seasoned, and the apple strudel for dessert was a dream. The Käsespätzle deserves special mention; according to many guests, they are among the best in Germany.

Very generous portions as many have said! Seating is very tight so make a reservation if you wish to eat before 7.30pm.

Impossible de manger malgré des tables libres à l’extérieur : nous sommes arrivés à 20h45 et le serveur à l’intérieur nous a répondu que la cuisine était fermée. En sortant, nous avons pu voir des gens qui étaient en train de passer leur commande…

It was impossible to eat despite free tables outside: we arrived at 8:45 p.m. and the waiter inside told us that the kitchen was closed. As we left, we could see people placing their orders...

Great ambiance and service! The schnitzel was a bit too tough, which shouldn't be the case at this price point, so I only gave it a 3★. My friend's Baden-style shoulder of pork was very well done, 5★. Because of my schnitzel, I'm only giving it a 4★! Overall, I enjoyed it.

The service from the guys working was fantastic! They were really busy but still managed to get everyone seated and meals ordered fast! Food was fantastic and the portions huge!!! A must visit place in Heidelberg

Great food, Schnitzel was delicious and very generous portion sizes. The white wine was perfect and a great option of juices for non-alcoholic preference. The service was very personable, we went the day before to book a table and the waiter squeezed us in. They both had great personalities very jovial and made us both feel very welcome. Would highly recommend anyone to go, a must stop in Heidelberg!!!!

Traditional German food here, and the two staff members outside were super friendly and nice.👍🏻 You can tell it’s a really popular spot—people kept coming in and out. Both the outdoor and indoor seating were packed. The indoor area can get a bit stuffy and dim, but the staff even brought us a fan, which was so thoughtful. The dim lighting also gave it a nice vibe. The portions were huge! We got two main dishes for three people. The flavors might be a bit on the salty side for Taiwanese tastes though.

What a wonderful restaurant. Lots of options for food, and everything is good. Seating is usually community style, and reservations may be required for groups of 3 or more. Beer selection is limited, but there are a ton of wine options available. Update, July 7th, 2025. Everything is still great at the Bank. Beer selection is still slim, and bottled, but it is a wine bar. Ambiance is great, everyone (patrons included) is super friendly, and there's extra seating outdoors when the weather is compliant. Reservation is definitely recommended.

A small, charming wine bar with rustic cuisine. Everything is freshly prepared, including schnitzel from the pan, and excellent value for money. A good yet affordable selection of wines from the Palatinate region. Without a reservation, however, it's difficult to find a seat. Very friendly staff. We recently met neighbors there who had visited the restaurant more than 50 years ago and were pleased that not much has changed. We've only known the restaurant for about 25 years. It's an ideal place to introduce guests to the "Heidelberg" atmosphere.

Quaint wine bar with friendly staff The food was good. We sat in the back courtyard, which wasn't so nice. There were a lot of cobwebs. Since it was still 37°C outside in the evening, the heat built up there. A fan provided little relief. We would still recommend the wine bar.

Awesome! We were there on Sunday lunchtime, right at 12 p.m. They were just opening when we arrived. We received a warm welcome. The staff were very friendly, always with a cheeky joke, and we immediately felt at home. The food was delicious and very attractively presented. The portion sizes were amazing.

This little place is very nice, the staff very kind and then the food, I have to say it was better than in Vienna, Schnitzel very very good.

I ate at this restaurant with six colleagues and we all agreed it was fantastic. The dishes were very generous and the restaurant was charming and traditional. The value for money is excellent.

Very good schnitzels, and my schnitzel salad was good but way too big! Almost an unreasonable amount of salad, would have been completely impossible to eat :) Very nice waiter!

Unbelievable food and service- indoor seating is shared tables and beautifully rustic. Outdoor sidewalk seating as well. The schnitzel is obviously the go to here. I went with schnitzel stuffed with blue cheese/ ham and it was ridiculously good. My wife got hers with mushroom gravy and my son got his garlic schnitzel. Both loved them! Service was awesome and the only reason atmosphere is 4 stars is it is hot inside- but no/frills perfect!

The biggest job in this restaurant is done by the service/waiter. A person knows how to approach a customer in such a way that you want to come back. Smiling, energetic. Portions are too big - impossible to finish. The food itself is ok, good wine. Prices vary. I can't judge the atmosphere and decor - I was in the garden.

This was a brilliant find and ticked all the boxes, amazing food, fabulous staff and a really lovely vibe. We both had Schnitzel and I couldn’t believe it was possible to make it taste this good. The portions were huge. The place itself is a former barrel making workshop and many of the tables and other decor made use of former work benches planes, and vices. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day for wine and apple strudel as we had been too full the day before.

The schnitzel and spaetzle were delicious and the portions were more than adequate. Despite the crowds, we didn't have to wait long for our food. Top!

Here you'll find hearty German cuisine. The restaurant is quaintly decorated and has a wonderful old-world charm. The waiters are witty and friendly. The food not only looks delicious, it tastes simply delicious.

Based on the good reviews, we would have liked to try it. However, I couldn't reach anyone by phone during opening hours for over two weeks to reserve a table. There's no answering machine or table reservations via email. There weren't any available at the restaurant either, which is a shame.

We were thrilled. We ended up here based on previous positive reviews, and we weren't disappointed. We received a very warm welcome right away, and were free to choose where to sit; you could sit wherever there was space. The food—we had crispy and pepper schnitzel—was delicious, and the wine to go with it was perfect. It's also very positive to note that the two people who served us were very passionate about their jobs. We'd be happy to come back if we're ever in Heidelberg again.

The best you can eat in Heidelberg. The schnitzel is excellent, especially the one with cabbage which is the specialty of the restaurant. The staff is very kind, the service is fast and the price is good.

They say they close at 22h but if you get there 20h55, they will tell you that the kitchen is already closed. Very disappointing.

You should come here with a real appetite, as the portions are huge. But that doesn't affect the quality. Very tasty, highly recommended.

An insider tip in the heart of Heidelberg's Old Town. Good food...plenty. Reservations are recommended. Homestyle fare. Located in a side street off the pedestrian zone.

It was wonderful. The food is absolutely out of this world. We had. Schnitzel with spaetzle. And a very nice Riesling. Also had escargot. It was superb.. I love that atmosphere these old gasthauses. Service was very good. Update June 2025. Was very busy when we went there. We had to eat at a table outside which was fine. But the food wasn't as good as it was last year when we were here. I had the schnitzel with the mushroom gravy again and it just wasn't nearly as good as it was when we were here last October. The spaetzle and the salad were very good

The ambiance is rustic and authentic, and beautiful. The two schnitzels we had were delicious, as was the vegetable side dish. What led to the three stars were the truly bland spaetzle and the "lackluster" fried potatoes. The servers were attentive, and despite the packed restaurant, things moved along quickly. Had the restaurant responded more leniently to the appropriate, justified criticism regarding the side dish (we weren't the only ones that evening), it would have earned another star.

Anything less than 5 out of 5 wouldn't be justified. Excellent value for money! If you enjoy good, home-style food, this is the place to be. Highly recommended.

As the name goes, the seating in this restaurant is bench so you can share a table with anyone, even strangers. The Schnitzel is super but the portion is too large for me so I took away the rest. I love the rustic decor and the cold Weißbier just made it even better.

Great atmosphere inside, so don't be afraid to sit at a table with strangers. The service is also outstanding and very friendly! If you want to drop in spontaneously, you're (almost) out of luck, as the restaurant isn't big and there's almost no room. It's best to make a reservation in advance.

Fantastic schnitzel restaurant with a great atmosphere. Took the friendly staff about 10 minutes to find us space for our party of five people. We ended up sitting on a long wooden table next to 3 other people who were halfway through their meal - so just be aware you might have to sit with strangers possibly. Food was amazing, so tasty and most of the main course schnitzels were only 20 euros and came with a massive plate of salad, big side of roast potatoes and also fresh veggies. I would recommend the peppercorn schnitzel from the specials menu - very tasty!

I visited this traditional German restaurant for lunch on a hot day. Despite the dark, low-ceilinged interior and busy atmosphere, the temperature was surprisingly comfortable. Service was excellent and quick. The schnitzel was the best I've had in Heidelberg, a definite highlight. The limited beer selection could be improved, but overall, I highly recommend this place and plan to return.

Pork chop with cheese, in fact, is not delicious, the cheese is sandwiched in the pork chop, the pork chop tastes smelly and strange, and it is not crispy because of the soaking. Not delicious. The salad is not fresh enough, and the beef stir-fry is not delicious. There are only two kinds of beer, 0.33, which is OK

The perfect German experience to end the day in Heidelberg. Nothing fancy but the food experience rates high. Enjoyed mushroom schnitzel and spatzle with a salad and husband had the Gorgonzola schnitzel with noodles and salad. Delicious and plentiful portions. The salad was so fresh with a lovely mustard vinaigrette dressing. Service was great and our server was very friendly, as were all who worked there. We arrived at 5pm and there were people waiting to get in and when we left it was getting busy. We had wanted to sit outdoors and eat but nearby smokers spoiled that atmosphere so we had to retreat indoors. The only reason for giving 4 stars to atmosphere is because there are no areas for non smokers outdoors, and indoors is family/group seating. Would have been nice to sit at a small comfortable table. Otherwise, the restaurant rates a 5.

We sat exclusively outside; we only noticed that the inside wasn't as big. Very friendly service. The food was fresh and well-seasoned. The garlic bread was super delicious and really tasted of garlic. The cheese spaetzle was very creamy, but freshly made. The salad had a mustard dressing that was a bit too acidic for me. The fried potatoes were really good. We would come back. I recommend making a reservation. We just got so lucky.

A truly unique, small, very original place. There were only two seats available at a partially occupied table and we dined next to other people. No problem for us, in fact we made new acquaintances. The service was very fast, the first choice cutlet is very abundant. In fact, there were two cutlets, so consider when ordering if, like us, you split a dish between two people. Truly highly recommended

The restaurant is absolutely quaint. You sit at old wooden tables on wooden benches. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and hot. I had a pepper-cream schnitzel with spaetzle. It was really crispy breaded, and the sauce was nice and spicy and very flavorful. The salad dressing was also delicious. The prices are reasonable. All in all, we spent a wonderful evening in a cozy atmosphere.

I highly recommend the Schnitzelbank. I came here via Google and the good reviews. It's a very small place and somewhat hidden away. You have to expect to sit at a table or with other guests. That way, you can quickly strike up a conversation if you want to. I ordered the schnitzel with mushrooms and spaetzle as a small portion. It was no problem and very tasty. The service was excellent. It's a bit cramped, but I'd gladly come back for the good food! :)

A curiosity...patience pays off...but you should be sociable...in this "mini-dive bar," there seem to be only five "workbench" tables...so it's a mixed bag...but it's also nice to sit outside...the food was plentiful, home-style, and delicious... The service was very friendly...unruffled...in the mood for jokes...

Unfortunately, an absolute no-go – unfriendly reception! We actually just wanted to grab a quick bite to eat – nothing big, nothing long, just dinner around 6:30 p.m. When we politely asked if a table was still available, the waiter treated us so bluntly and condescendingly that we completely lost our appetite. He pointed out the reserved signs in a tone as if we had personally ruined his life. Honestly: Anyone who treats guests so rudely is completely out of place in the service industry. Especially when there are several free tables all around. So much for hospitality. It's a shame about the actually beautiful location – but friendliness doesn't seem to be on the menu here.

It's not as exaggerated as it seems, but considering the difficulty of finding a place, it's definitely famous. A preferable place.
