Very cozy atmosphere, friendly service and large portions.

I ordered the creamy mushroom pork chop. The pork chop was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a perfect sauce. The accompanying salad and noodles were also carefully prepared. They open at 5 PM, and the restaurant is basically full within ten minutes. There are only about six tables and thirty seats in the small restaurant, so if you want to eat here, you must plan ahead and arrive before opening time to wait for the owner to open.

The food was great, and the staff was friendly. It was a bit cramped; every available space was used.

Service was the best ive had in germany. Food was pretty good, big portions. I spent around 50€ for 2, no wine. Would come again gladly.

November 2025 This restaurant is famous for its schnitzel. Luckily, I was able to get in right away without a reservation. It's a shared table, so depending on the timing, you might be able to get in quickly without having to wait in line! The staff were friendly and approachable. The schnitzel was delicious, and the sauce was delicious too! It was a different kind of schnitzel from what I'd had in Vienna.

The atmosphere was great. However, it's small inside, so you have to share tables with others. If you're a large group, your chances of sitting at the same table may be slim. :) The portions are quite large. Unless you're very hungry, I recommend sharing. We couldn't finish our plates :(

I found this restaurant in Heidelberg through online recommendations about “what to eat here.” I went with my wife and son. The place was extremely crowded and has a combined bar-and-restaurant concept. The waiter who served us was exceptionally helpful, which I genuinely appreciated. However, the food itself did not fully meet my expectations. Still, compared with my other dining experiences during my one-week stay in Heidelberg, this was probably the best overall outdoor dining experience. The portions are very large, in true American style, and the schnitzel comes with side dishes. Prices are also reasonable.

Wow, what a great place, excellent service,excellent food and excellent ambience. A small restaurant, you'll be lucky to get in !!, you may have to join a large table or other people join your table, if that's not for u then don't come, but you'll be the loser for missing out on this gem of a restaurant. I've been to 192 countries and I would put my meal here into my top 10 of all time meals, it was that good !!

My family visited this restaurant 9 years ago and had to stop back by while in Heidelberg. The restaurant has old world charm and the food is excellent. The seating is limited and the tables are shared with other diners. Show up early to get your pick of the tables and ensure there is room without a wait.

We were more or less lucky to get a table; many people were turned away because the restaurant is quite small, tables were already reserved, and it was simply packed. The place is doing well. We were initially offered the option of sharing a table, but were then allowed to sit at a reserved table, provided we left quickly. We ordered quickly, and the food arrived very fast. Unfortunately, the cordon bleu was still quite raw; it needed more time. Since the table was reserved afterward, I didn't bother sending it back to the kitchen. However, the fried potatoes and salad were very tasty, and my companion's other dishes were also good. The cinnamon red cabbage was particularly delicious. So, it's definitely advisable to make a reservation here; then it's sure to be cozy. I felt rushed and stressed, but that might just have been my personal impression. The service was really very friendly and accommodating, and the cordon bleu wasn't charged. Thank you!

The best schnitzel in HD! A really small, quaint place. If you come alone, you can just sit down anywhere and nobody minds – that's just how things are done there. It gets really warm inside in the summer, but the food comes quickly. The schnitzels are all incredibly good and, most importantly, handmade – you can tell right away! They come with a huge side salad, and the side dish that goes with the schnitzel is also fantastic!

We visited the Schnitzelbank wine tavern on a recommendation, and it lived up to the hype! The atmosphere is lovely and rustic, the service is incredibly friendly, and they share tables: "Sit wherever there's space" – and that's exactly what we did. The wine selection is fantastic, and the food tastes amazing. The food arrived quickly, the portions were generous, and the value for money is excellent. The various schnitzel options are incredibly delicious. The Cordon Bleu with Gorgonzola is unique, but definitely not to be underestimated. All in all, we highly recommend the Schnitzelbank wine tavern!

I was at that beautiful restaurant on Tuesday, October 7th of this year, 2025. I was in Heidelberg for an Astronomy for Education conference, and someone recommended it to me. I had a Cordon Bleu Stuffed Pork Schnitzel, and I must say the food was spectacular and delicious. The place is beautiful; you have to share a table with strangers, but that makes it amazing. I want to highlight the attention I received from the gentleman who served me, who spoke a little Spanish and tried to make my experience even better. I was treated like royalty. I was delighted with every aspect of that magnificent place. The Pilsner beer was also wonderful. Go with peace of mind and enjoy a truly German restaurant. A big hug to the employees from Venezuela.

Excellent snitzel for a brief visit to Germany. The interior certainly also has lots of atmosphere unfortunately it was already full even though we were early on a Thursday evening. We sat out on the teras which was fairly warm still except towards the end of the meal but blankets were provided. The menu is (almost) all snitzel but that can't be a surprise given the name and the snitzels themselves were delicious. Would definitely recommend and would go back for another bite.

Weinstube Schnitzelbank — A Must-Visit in Heidelberg! Can’t believe how much difference arriving early can make! We arrived about 20 minutes before opening and saw a couple of groups already waiting outside. That was a clear sign this place is very popular. And indeed, once the doors opened at 5 pm, people poured in — within just 5 minutes, every table was occupied! The service was wonderful — the staff are super friendly and welcoming. We ordered bratwurst and garlic schnitzel, and both were amazing. Honestly, they tasted even better than what we had in Munich. The sauerkraut was superb, though the portion was quite large, so I couldn’t finish it. I wanted to try the tomato soup too, but it contains cream, so we skipped it. One thing to note: because the restaurant is small and very famous, you’ll likely have to share a table with other groups — which actually adds to the cozy atmosphere. I’d strongly recommend making a reservation by phone, as their email response asked us to call directly due to limited access to email. We parked at P1, which is a bit of a walk from the restaurant, so it’s worth checking for a closer parking option if possible. 👉 In short: be prepared, arrive early or reserve ahead if you want to enjoy this fantastic spot in Heidelberg! Total meal costs us 47 euro

🚨EXTREMELY RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL STAFF🚨 I barely leave bad reviews, but this place deserves it. I would give 0 stars if I could, but I am giving 5 stars only to warn everyone knows how rude the staff are and how terrible the service was. I have been traveling across Europe and have visited many many busy restaurants, but I have never been treated the way I was here. Even busier places treat customers far better. The food here is not even great either. It seems people come mainly because there are limited options in Heidelberg. I strongly recommend spending money elsewhere because this place doesn’t deserve a penny. We visited for dinner and stood waiting, completely ignored for about five minutes or more. We felt like an inconvenience just standing there. When I finally asked a staff member, he first ignored me and when I repeated myself he snapped loudly “No table.” I pointed out that there were empty tables but he responded in an aggresive tone saying “All reservations are full” making us feel kicked out. As we were about to leave, the same staff noticed a foreign member of our party. Suddenly, his attitude changed—he switched to German told us that some tables were available outside (what a surprise) and became dramatically more friendly. This inconsistent and possibly biased behavior was unacceptable. Despite many empty tables at the time, we were not seated promptly and the whole experience was completely ruined. No matter how busy a restaurant is, there is never an excuse for rudeness. If you want to see who I’m talking about, check the photos in other reviews — Remarkably, similar complaints have been made consistently over the years, yet nothing seems to have changed.

The servers at this restaurant are exceptionally rude. We came in to ask if there was space for us. The couple in front of us were greeted with hugs and told to take a seat while we were ignored. After a bit, another couple who were leaving told us to take their seat, so we asked if we should just sit down. We were snapped at with "no we are full!" in the most smug, condescending way. We pointed out the empty seats, and he rudely snapped, "if you don’t have a reservation, then we are full!" Completely unnecessary rudeness for simply asking a standard question at a restaurant, even if you are busy. As we were leaving, we were standing out front looking for an alternative when he yelled from the doorway that there was a spare table outside. Against our better judgement, we stayed, since we were already there. I must say, I don’t know what the hype is about this place, the schnitzels were dry and nothing special. When paying, I told them the way they spoke to us was inappropriate, but he just shrugged. That says it all, really. I would recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

I'm the type of person who rarely writes bad reviews because they don't reflect well on a restaurant. I also figured people would go anyway, regardless of my review, so I wasn't planning on leaving one. But my trip to Heidelberg left me with a feeling that this restaurant wasn't a good memory, but rather a total ruin, so I'm leaving this review. I arrived in Heidelberg early and, hearing that this place was so famous for its schnitzel, I'd been waiting a day for dinner. As expected, it was busy and crowded. After standing there for over five minutes, no one even glanced at me. Feeling uneasy, I asked if we could sit down. Even though there were plenty of empty seats, they rudely told me there were no seats for us. Is this what they call "gutsy"? I felt like I was being completely ignored, like, "There's no room for you guys." As we were discussing our options outside, they suddenly announced in German that there was seating outside. (There was an English-speaking person in our group, and the person who asked if there was a table was Korean.) I felt like the wait was too much, so I offered to eat and sat down. Suddenly, I saw them going crazy and feigning friendliness. This is what racism looks like. (Perhaps their attitude changed after seeing that my group was English-speaking.) And then came the worst meal... There was even a hair in my schnitzel. I'm usually a positive traveler, and I've traveled a lot, but I've never experienced racism... But this place, in particular, had the worst staff I've ever met, and this restaurant has left the worst memories of Heidelberg. I know the staff won't mind me even if I leave a review like this. I understand the hair, but that rude staff member... I'm leaving this review in the hopes that you'll recognize that your actions can negatively impact the perception of Germans and Germany itself. I hope you'll take responsibility for your actions.

We went to the Schnitzelbank on Saturday evening and immediately got a table outside. The food was, as usual, excellent – ​​highly recommended. The real highlight, however, was the waiter: I don't think I've ever been served so attentively, professionally, casually, and humorously. This man really should get a percentage of everything he brings on his tray – the service was that good! A great guy who rounded off the evening perfectly. I'll definitely be back soon.

I had garlic schnitzel and regular schnitzel. The portions were really generous, and I had a wonderful dining experience. The garlic schnitzel was especially my favorite, so I devoured it without a second thought. It was my first meal in Germany, and I was satisfied. The onion soup was especially delicious.

A really nice restaurant with good German cuisine. From bratwurst, knuckle of pork, and a great crispy schnitzel, you can get everything here. We had schnitzel, and it was wonderfully crispy—the name says it all. The pepper schnitzel, without cream sauce but with a wonderful, slightly fruity dark peppercorn sauce and fresh spaetzle, was absolutely fantastic. The portions were extremely generous—you get two large schnitzels, whereas elsewhere you'd only get one for that price! The salad was also delicious, and we were impressed with the service. We were served by a great, funny young man who always had a funny saying ready and reflected my sense of humor very well. The food also arrived very quickly, even though it was busy. Apart from the slightly odd restrooms, which could use a little TLC, we were more than satisfied, hence 5 stars all around!

Conclusion: For us, it was a solid visit, especially due to the great service, but there was room for improvement in terms of the food.

A quaint restaurant in the historic center; outdoor and indoor spaces with dark wood furnishings, typical of a beer hall. You sit wherever you find a spot and share tables. Excellent value (€52 for two for two full, generous dishes and a beer). We found a spot because we arrived at 6:00 PM. At 7:30 PM, there was a long line. I recommend booking because it's worth it.
