Waldhauser Bräu in Schönau a.Königssee

The new tenants opened three weeks ago - this period is important to evaluate: I was on site for two days - unfortunately with mixed impressions. On the first visit they said it was only open in the afternoon. Went there again in the afternoon: “Not anymore today – sorry.” On the third attempt the door was locked. When someone came out and I just wanted to have a drink, it was refused - "not possible yet". Only when you eat something, that's what it said. For me as a guest it was a strange experience, especially given the high temperatures around Easter. The next day I happened to meet the very friendly waiter again, with whom I had briefly spoken in Hungarian - he recommended the liver, and it was actually excellent. Unfortunately, the positive impression was later spoiled: the tenant turned off the lights outside without warning - and so I realized that it was the same gentleman from the previous day. What the waiter told me particularly made me think: He left after a few weeks because he was supposedly deducted €600 from the minimum wage - for a 16m² room that he shared with his wife, who also worked in the company. I am specifically passing this information on as hearsay. If this statement turns out to be false, I will delete this post immediately. But until then, I see it as my duty to take such information seriously and draw attention to grievances. If that is true, in my opinion it is exploitation - and not acceptable to me personally.

Very good and cheap food. Friendly waiters who are open to requests. After a bit of time getting used to the operation, it's a full 5 stars.

Very lovely staff!!! The atmosphere among the waiters is extremely friendly and friendly! My meal was very tasty!! The pork medallions are extremely tender and only recommended!!! The decor is also super quaint and cozy :) All in all a great place to stop off and enjoy the atmosphere and the food :)

The food looked good, we can't say more as the service was almost non-existent. Our order was only taken when we were informed that we had not yet ordered. Even after a second time because the first order had disappeared, we still didn't even have anything to drink after 40 minutes. We then left and found a great restaurant a little further down with great service.

Amazing Veggie Burger (Königssee Burger) with BBQ-Jackfruit. It tastes like chicken meat but is not. Friendly atmosphere and variety of German beer.

Very nice beer garden, friendly service and delicious food at a great price. All this with a wonderful view of the mountains, cold beer and delicious homemade raspberry-mint lemonade - highly recommended!

The staff is incredibly friendly and the guests' wishes are taken into consideration very carefully. The food was super delicious. The most delicious sauce I have ever tasted!! The wine and the ambience were also very pleasant. We will come back.

According to the operator, the restaurant has only been back in operation for 2 days - they should have postponed the reopening until a non-holiday period and not at Easter, when a higher volume of guests (with which this location is undoubtedly hopelessly overwhelmed at the moment) is inevitable. The waiter seemed unfocused and overwhelmed. Drinks came relatively quickly. Even when reordering while waiting for the food. But that was it. Even after waiting for well over an hour, there was no sign of anything to eat, which is why its quality cannot be judged, because we paid for the drinks in frustration after the long wait and left. I would have liked the operator to realize that he couldn't cope with the number of guests at the moment and would have essentially stopped entry in order to at least give the existing guests a halfway good restaurant experience. I could have lived with it if such a "break" had affected me and my family, because then we would have known where we stood and would have gone to another restaurant straight away. Instead, it quickly became more and more crowded, the service staff seemed increasingly overwhelmed and we ourselves became more and more hungry. Absolutely not recommended at the moment - in contrast to the not far away "Brunneck", where we basically fled and as I write this the first meal is already on the table...

Great service and really incredibly delicious food! The staff are very accommodating and happy to fulfill every wish. You have definitely won us over as regular customers! I can only recommend it!😃

Went there for dinner today, they apparently opened for the season today. The waiter we caught was either in a really bad mood or didn't speak German well. Was somehow unsympathetic. The owner (I think) on the other hand is totally relaxed and friendly. Yes, unfortunately the food was nothing, totally unspectacular and overpriced. A Hugo for €8.50 😩

December 2024: we visited you again and were very pleased to once again receive excellent reviews. We'd love to come back. Previous review: An excellent restaurant in the center of Schönau am Königssee. Definitely worth a trip and good food there. We have been there several times and have never been disappointed.

Super nette Bedienung und selten so lecker gegessen. Wir haben nicht reserviert und wurden trotzdem sehr freundlich empfangen. Das Essen kam zeitnah nach unserer Bestellung. Preisleistung ist hier sehr gut.

Good food, large portions at absolutely fair prices. Recommendation: make a reservation and be hungry ;-) Service friendly and quick, if a bit rushed. Can only recommend Waldhauser Bräu.

Fantastic place, perfect staff, very good food. Lady remebers customers. Very cosy local. Spatzle, apfelstrudel, pork in dark beer sause worth to taste. I was 4 evenings and I am very glad.

At first we were greeted very unfriendly, but then the mood improved. The service seemed very stressed. Unfortunately not exactly comfortable. Food was OK. Ambience OK.

We had dinner here today and were thrilled. The service was friendly and, which is rare these days, very competent. The food came quite quickly and was good. We can only recommend the restaurant.

Even though the notice said it was supposed to be open, we were told they were closing now and reopening later. Then you can save yourself the handwritten notice.

I enjoyed eating here. The absolute best cheese patties I have ever eaten. We had just finished a day of hiking and were exhausted and very hungry - there's nothing better than a great, cozy meal and a super nice waitress to welcome us. I had made a mistake when ordering - accidentally ordered a meat dish for a non-German speaking vegan/religious friend (I hadn't read the menu properly because my knowledge of German wasn't the best) - although the waitress was very nice and offered the meat For us to separate, this was not possible due to my friend's religion. Now I can enjoy the restaurant again today/tomorrow :) I would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially after a long day of hiking.

Can't go lower than 1 unfortunately. We went in with a smile to ask for a 'table for three' ..only to be very rudely asked to leave, since we had no reservation. We then asked for a take-away, since it was late and we were tired. Then we were asked to move away from the door way and stand at a specific spot. The most disrespectful bit was when the waiter (Florian) demonstrated to us on "how to wait" with his back hunched in the corner. Eventually the order came in a cardboard tray with the food in edeka ice cream containers. The whole experience was extremely humiliating. Wouldn't recommend at all.

We weren't promised too much. Very, very tasty food. We had onion roast beef with cheese spaetzle and the Wiener schnitzel. The portions are really big, the prices are fair and the food is super tasty and fresh. To put in. The service was also really nice, despite a lot of stress because there was a lot going on, and the atmosphere was simply rustic and cozy.

We came on a Thursday without a reservation and were lucky: a table had just become available. There is a general menu and a new menu every day. We quickly found what we were looking for, the service was top notch and the food was simply great. We thought it was so good that we made a reservation for the next day and then again for the day after that. The Waldhäuser Bräu is a real inn and is rustically furnished. You feel welcome from the first moment and are treated by the boss and the other service staff as if you were a regular guest.

We were there for dinner today (October 11th, 2024). I have to say, it was really delicious😋. Staff really friendly and quick. What surprised me was the speed. We reserved the table for 5:30 p.m. and were already finished eating at 6 p.m. Everything was occupied except for a few tables. We will be back in December (short vacation) and will of course come back 😃. Highly recommended!

I can't say anything positive about the inn, there were three tables occupied in the inn, we weren't greeted in a friendly way but were coolly turned away, we just wanted to eat something quick since we had a long journey. The guests are talking to each other on the street that we didn't order and neither did the others!!! But the three people got a place, it's determined whoever has the biggest nose. We had a wonderful meal at the Seewirt am Thumsee, so we left the €150 there.

Great restaurant with nice people and good food. Reservation is required otherwise you could be out of luck.

The best veal liver ever. The poor waitress was alone and did a great job. I've tried a lot, but this veal liver - simply expert. Buttery tender. The chef knows what he's doing. Clear recommendation. If you are in Schönau, make a reservation and go there. Please remember - unfortunately only cash payment. Bit incomprehensible.

We had dinner here several times during our vacation and were completely satisfied each time. You can sit well, the service is nice and the food is also very tasty. The prices are also completely appropriate. If we're back in Schönau, we'll be happy to come back here.

We arrived here at very short notice on the recommendation of our accommodation operator (due to a late arrival) and were quickly seated and greeted in a friendly manner. When you see what is being accomplished here, I have the utmost respect for all employees in this economy. We were extremely satisfied with everything and would love to come back again.

Great service, great quality. We went there often during our vacation and were always very satisfied. To the authors of the reviews on the subject of room temperature and free tables. It couldn't be stupider. When the outside temperature is 28 degrees, you can't get anything in with the windows open, except insects. But feel free to try it at home. And there are free tables in every restaurant if you don't has reserved. But just for the guests who can think that far. We thank the team and wish them all the best. A beautiful Berchdesgaden restaurant with a rustic flair. We felt very comfortable here as guests. The two ladies from the service were pleasantly friendly. The dishes we ordered from the daily menu came quickly, were very tasty and the quantity was absolutely sufficient. The other guests' dishes (from what I could see from where we were sitting) all looked very good. The price-performance ratio is absolutely fine and has nothing to do with “tourist rip-off” as I have read in the reviews here. Be sure to call and reserve a spot. P.S. Unfortunately the beer garden no longer exists.

Cozy Bavarian restaurant. Staff friendly and quick. The kitchen was on point and the food didn't take long to arrive. Quality was good, portions were sufficient. Price was perfectly fine for the region.

Warning: no card payment! Menu interesting and with daily menu, food was good and came quickly, service rustic but nice, so far good. However, only accepting cash payments is a bit out of date. So either budget appropriate amounts of cash or go somewhere else!

I was there twice in one week. Always only around 8 p.m. The restaurant was always quite busy, so we recommend making a reservation if you want to eat earlier. The service is very good (fast + friendly). The menu changes, there is a day ticket and a “season ticket”.

The food tasted good and was at the table quickly after ordering. However, the serving staff was completely stressed with a table occupancy of almost 50 percent. Unfortunately, this had an impact on the comfort. They wanted to leave quickly so as not to create any work for the service staff. Maybe hire one more worker.

We were guests with a small group in July 2024 with registration. Everyone felt like they were in good hands and we were well looked after by Florian. We all enjoyed it. We can recommend the inn with a clear conscience.

There were 4 of us in the nice and cozy dining room. The food was very good and beautifully prepared. I had the salmon fillet with an excellent herb butter. The best thing was the very friendly waiter who had a kind word for every guest. I have rarely seen someone who enjoys their work so much. Therefore 10 stars for the service!

Again really tasty and good food. The last time we were here was 2 years ago and I can say that the quality is still there! Anticipation when you come in. Quaint, cozy. There is air to cut in the dining room (no windows open when the outside temperature is 28 degrees). Starter: lard with bread Bread 6 small (approx. 2cm diameter) slices of bread with greaves and some vegetables. Main course: onion roast I looked twice to make sure I didn't order from the children's menu. A maximum of 120-130 grams of meat, a few fried onions, a dollop of Kaasspätzle and half a hand of buttered vegetables. Price €24.90. An absolute disgrace for so little food. Typical tourist jokes. Come for dinner once and then never come again.

We have been there 6 years in a row and several times. It was like always, every time. Simply fantastic. The food was great, the atmosphere was great and the service was second to none. Just great .

Rudeness is an understatement!!! wanted to go out to eat with my wife at the end of our vacation, we sat down at one of the free tables and waited until the service came, after a while we were noticed by this person who was apparently serving there three tables away and rudely harassed us: reserved??? When we answered in the negative, the answer was: then we have no room!!!! It's actually a shame, but we found a great, friendly local right on Lake Königssee with delicious food and I gave a generous tip for the friendly and nice hospitality. We'll definitely prefer to go there on our next vacation!!!!

There really weren't all the tables occupied at this time... I don't feel like it anymore... I don't need it... Time 7:45 p.m. today on June 18, 2024. In any case, we will never book a table there again... the landlord was very... very arrogant and not at all friendly... according to the motto. Don't need it... well then...here you go... There are plenty of other good restaurants in Schönau... Delicious food... nice... accommodating... friendly... always the Haus Grünsteinstüberl and the Pizzeria Jolly... We recommend...

The Waldhäuser Bräu is a rustic inn serving Bavarian cuisine. We have been visiting this restaurant on our vacation for many years and have never been disappointed. Bavarian hospitality is still very important here.

We've been regular guests there for over 10 years and I'm fed up with idiotic reviews that have nothing to do with reality. Service was and is always very good, even in stressful times. Kitchen first class. Note to people who can't get a table: put on your glasses and read the website. Urgent reservations are indicated there. Note to those complaining about the lack of a parking space: move your butt and walk a few steps. Dear Waldhauser Bräu team: don't let idiots influence you. You are simply great. Cozy restaurant with consistently friendly service. We went there twice for dinner. The first time everything was great. We had ox cheeks and onion roast. Both dishes were very tasty. The second time we both had the roast pork. We weren't happy with that at all. It lacked flavor and was very chewy. Unfortunately, the service didn't respond to my complaint at all. Maybe the other dishes are better again. I'm thinking about trying it again.

I absolutely cannot agree with the negative reviews before me. I think people just can't cope with the open and direct nature of the people there. I can understand that if you come from the city, where “professional” friendliness that you are led to believe is part of the standard in gastronomy, since I come from the city myself. The three of us were there about a week ago and found an extremely caring and friendly hostess. When I was chatting outside with a few local guests who had their regulars' table there, the hostess even came out and said, "Come in, your schnitzel is getting cold!" I immediately thought of my mother, who would have reacted the same way. We definitely ate well, enjoyed the beer, enjoyed the food, spoke to great people and got interesting tips for the area. The review is now longer than expected, but I find it absolutely cheeky that 3 obviously adult “men” all leave a bad review at the same time, even though they apparently didn't spend any time here. Real crybabies! :D And Waldhauser Bräu... stay the way you are!

Quaint restaurant. Had the roast pork with dark beer sauce and dumplings with coleslaw. It was super tasty, the sauce was more like soup but it didn't detract from the taste. Service quick and polite.

It has never been pointed out in such an unfriendly manner that “the place is full”. Good behavior seems to be a foreign concept. If there was competition locally, they would be bankrupt after 6 months or the hut would have burned down.
