Waldhaus Sängerwiese in Eisenach

We went there for coffee today after a hike. The cake was delicious, and the service was friendly. However, what really annoyed me was that there were artificial tea lights on the table. My son (1 year old) was holding one, and I went to the counter with him in my arms to order cake. The owner saw the tea light in his hand, snatched it away, and put it back on the table. Absolutely unacceptable! We're talking about a toddler and a €1 tea light. There's no need to treat a child like that. Disgusting! Therefore, I probably won't be going there again.

We went hiking on Saturday and spontaneously stopped for lunch. The inn was very busy, but the owner very kindly showed us to a table that had just become available. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food arrived quite quickly and was delicious; we had the venison goulash with dumplings and red cabbage. We can absolutely recommend it, and we'll gladly come back if we're ever in the area again. The value for money is excellent. The restroom was also very clean. Thank you!

Second-class guests?! We were standing at the snack bar and could watch the owner at work. (We weren't sure if the snack bar was "open" during the off-season. After all, it was October 31, 2025.) After waiting a while without any response from inside, we decided to go in. Inside, we were asked, "What can we do for you?" "We'd like something to drink." We were told to stand outside by the window again and wait; they would serve us inside first. We decided to continue our hike and will not recommend the Waldhaus due to the owner's unfriendly attitude!

A worthwhile destination on a hike around Eisenach. The idyllic path between Wartburg Castle and Drachenschlucht leads directly to the inn, where it's warm and inviting, with delicious food and drinks...the detour is definitely worth it. We'd love to go again.

We were here on a stormy and rainy day despite the power outage! A warm welcome awaited us. Delicious soups and sausages were on offer (however they were heated). Big compliments to the host and staff. ❤️

It's nice that this restaurant is there. Friendly host, good drinks. We didn't eat, but you can get snacks there. There's a large meadow with plenty of space for a picnic.

We held a family celebration at the Sängerwiesen. The arrangements beforehand were pleasant, and the interior—or indoors, if applicable—is sufficiently large. It gets loud when everyone is talking, but that's normal. The lunch portions were above average, and the cake was extremely delicious. The meadow offers plenty of play opportunities for children, and the service was attentive and friendly.

A very beautiful place, perfect for a rest. The food is good and the staff very friendly. After a meal and a long hike, the adjacent meadow is perfect for a nap. So don't forget a small blanket! 😜

We got completely lost in the forest because the signage was extremely poor. When we arrived, we were naturally hungry; the food was like something from a cafeteria. Despite asking if the red cabbage was homemade, they served it fresh from a jar. €22 for self-service is pretty cheeky. While most of our group had already finished eating, our colleague still had to wait. Conclusion: Very disappointed 😞

We only visited this place for hiking. It's a lovely spot to relax. Unfortunately, there's no small playground for children to run around.

August 2025 Nice self-service beer garden with no view. The ladies at the counter were very friendly. Homemade cakes (€3.50 each) were very good. Unfortunately, they didn't have decaf coffee. 😐 There are sunny and shady spots. Clean restrooms.

Aside from getting something to drink, we were denied access to the restroom after what felt like a 30km hike. It was already being mopped 🤦‍♂️ I don't care, but a woman? That's totally unacceptable!

The bratwurst with fries was okay. Nothing special. The side salad was very watery. Relatively high prices for a self-service restaurant.

We were hiking and stopped in for a quick snack. We made ourselves comfortable outside and were served at the outdoor counter. The service was friendly and helpful. We had to find a clean table first, so more attention could be paid to that. You have to clear the table yourself, but it's not a problem. The food and drinks are delicious, and the price-performance ratio is good.

It's just a snack bar in the forest. The landlord is trying hard. You stop there while hiking/on vacation and you're not on the run. So it doesn't really matter if it takes a while. If that bothers you: just sit on the bench opposite and eat your own lunch.

On our hike through the Drachenschlucht to the Wartburg we passed by here and took a short break here. We each ordered a bratwurst in a roll and a drink. The bratwurst was really delicious. Service was also great.

The Sangerwiese is a real jewel in the middle of the Thuringian Forest - perfectly located at the foot of the Wartburg and embedded in a beautiful natural backdrop. Anyone who likes hiking or cycling will find the ideal starting point for tours through the Drachenschlucht, Landgrafenschlucht or the Rennsteig. The inn itself has a rustic, cozy charm. The furnishings are rustic but lovingly designed - just the right thing to unwind after a hike. The food is down-to-earth, delicious and served with a smile. The homemade Thuringian specialties are particularly worth a visit.

After our hike towards the Drachenschlucht, we had a snack outside. We placed the order with an older gentleman who we couldn't describe as friendly. Bit expensive for a snack that has to be picked up. But the taste is okay.

The Sangerwiese is quietly located at a hiking junction about 2 km from the Wartburg in the forest/clearing.

I was able to get to know the restaurant here on the sidelines of a wedding. What I saw and experienced was fine. Normally this is a hiking restaurant and that's what it's designed for.

We stopped off on the way to the Drachenschlucht and enjoyed the food. It is a self-service restaurant. The rabbit leg with red cabbage is recommended. Unfortunately, the game goulash was a bit bland.

A nice place to take a break. Food and beer was good. Unfortunately we had to ask where the food was and they forgot to put the order form in the kitchen. Nice self-service restaurant between Wartburg and Drachenschlucht

I (female) stopped here with my girlfriend today on a hike to Wartburg and ordered bratwurst and beer. First of all, beer and sausage tasted good. The latter were even very spicy and were freshly grilled for us. But the visit was ruined by the old man at the tap, who also cashed in. He repeatedly emphasized that he had to do with me, the “Lord.” The money from the gentleman, the beer for the gentleman, the change for the gentleman. With the best will in the world, I've never experienced anything like that. Was there just lesbianism behind it or did the man somehow feel compelled to come out as a trans woman because it's fashionable to see trans people everywhere (even where there aren't any)? I don't know it. It's a shame, because the price and quality of the food and drink were quite satisfactory.

We found ourselves there on the hiking trail to Wartburg. The staff was very friendly. It's very comfortable there. The prices were good. The Soljanka (large) for 8 euros. Children's schnitzel with salad and potato salad or fries for 10.50 euros and the Greek salad for 14.50 euros. Everything was freshly prepared. The potato salad was homemade. The schnitzel meat was NOT molded meat and was fried in a pan. For a large shandy you paid around 4-5 euros. We as a family and our friends were thrilled and can only recommend the forest house and restaurant. You can pay with EC card. Thanks to the staff! Anytime again :-)

Great stopover restaurant... A MUST when hiking at the Wartburg / Drachenschlucht. Despite the absolute tourist location, good price-performance ratio. TIP Even if the real Thuringian bratwurst is delicious, it is also worth trying a larger meal. YUMMY

Beautiful place, lots of nature!

So on Men's Day you expect a little more than a beer garden that is carelessly opened, with bratwursts from the pan and beer without gas. Not again. I'll save for the future.
