Hello, I would like to comment on Barbara Hintze's comment. She was invited to my annual general meeting and yes the light was a little darker but the innkeepers are still renovating etc. But I didn't have my glasses on and I could see and read everything at the buffet. I would also like to add that she didn't pay €22.90 but only €10 +€2.90=€12.90. All members ate well and praised the food. I thought it was great too. And I thought the sauce was great - you shouldn't forget that the innkeepers are Dutch and don't know sauces. Of course there are great restaurants in Oker and I will also hold small gatherings there, but I will always hold large gatherings in the Waldhaus. All guests thought it was great and you should always remain fair. I am thrilled and will always visit the Waldhaus and hold my events there.

I visited the restaurant on the occasion of a SoVD event. The event room was very poorly lit due to the lack of lights. The drink service was ok. The ordered menu was offered for self-service. Because of the poor lighting, the individual components of the menu were barely visible. Except for a few braised onions, the food was made entirely from frozen products. Even the side salad came from a large bag of pre-sorted lettuce leaves. Schnitzel 3 times: thick breading, equally thick slice of meat and thick breading again. So a cheap frozen product. The sauce was bland and enriched with champions from the jar. The imperial vegetables without “varnish and taste”. And there were pieces of currywurst in sauce. The menu and a small Cola Zero cost €22.90. My advice: give it a wide berth. The Harz offers so many good restaurants. There is better in Oker too.

Perfect for relaxing with drinks and snacks after a short hike nearby. Super friendly service and a great view if you sit outside on the terrace.

Thanks to a recommendation from the “Waldcafe” (an accommodation nearby) we ate there. The schnitzel was great. Fried potatoes could be crispier, but still very tasty. The pulled pork burger was extremely good. Juicy meat, delicious bread and I can still rave about the fries. For dessert we had apple strudel. Or rather two. We couldn't share it because it was so delicious! Very nice staff. Cozy atmosphere. Absolute recommendation! We cannot rate the rooms there.

The German-Dutch gastro crew is really very friendly and the food is sumptuous and delicious.

We "only" had something to eat there, so we can't judge the rooms. The food was excellent, the service was super nice and quick and the atmosphere was great! Our dog also smelled the smell of the restaurant. A big recommendation from us!

Had dinner there last night after a day of hiking. The new owner was super nice and on the ball! 5 stars for that! To me it looked clean and tidy. However, I found the food selection to be pretty bad. Almost only meat dishes and then in THE selection that quickly becomes clear: actually just ready-made frozen food! So various schnitzels, dumplings, sausages, burgers, etc. Unfortunately there was really nothing home-cooked/baked. Still, most of them are quite expensive! The pizza we chose was of course only frozen. So for the food, 2 stars at the most! I would advise offering some really "fresh, homemade dishes"!! Only then will a guest come back because of the food and not just because of the friendliness and the beautiful view!

The prices are thought up with an extremely bad joke. Out of necessity on a hike in 30 degree temperatures, we stopped here to have a snack and a drink. Since we didn't eat everything, we talked to the waitress, she was nice but everything else was bottomless. We asked for simple fried potatoes that are on the menu, they don't have them, no problem, it happens that something runs out. Then there was the hefty Max on the menu for a whopping €12.50, which is legitimate when well prepared. However, we only ordered 3 breads with 3 fried eggs with well-done sides because we just don't eat ham, cheese, bacon, etc. We asked for an adjusted price, she said no, there's nothing I can do, and after I asked my wife if we even wanted to do that, she said €10. It's not about the money, but the price itself is really good. We said ok, let's do it. So we received our food, and now the terribleness in person, the plate came with 3 slices of dry, untouched white sandwich toast where 3 half raw fried eggs were slapped on top, with ready-made chives crumbled from the glass. The taste is disgusting, as is the look and smell. When we asked for the bill, we came up with a price of €25, but that included a piece of apple pie. The ambience is cheap plastic chairs that almost break when you sit on them and there is really nothing nice here other than nature. The apple pie was okay, but you won't be able to stop there.

I'm only reviewing the café here, not the accommodation. We came for coffee and cake. We sat on the terrace with our dogs. The waitress was very nice and served us quickly. The coffee was very tasty and the cake was really good (rarely have I eaten such a delicious cake). The toilet was very clean but very very small. People with disabilities would have problems here. We recommend taking a break here, thank you for the lovely hour of relaxation after our hike

First of all, I can't comment on the rooms since we only had dinner there. And the food wasn't even that good, but the price was high. I had a pulled pork burger for 17.90. The price is actually normal, but I expect a pulled pork burger and not a baked roll from Aldi from a pack of six with some meat and a slice of sliced ​​cheese! That was nothing at all, dear new owners of the restaurant. The fries were really good, for that we get 1 star and 1 star for the delicious Benedictine Non-Alcoholic Wheat. Unfortunately there was no ketchup or mayonnaise for the fries and the service didn't really speak good German either. Communication was difficult, even in English. There is definitely room for improvement here. If the inn is still there next year, I would like to stop again to see if it has improved 😉

Wonderfully authentic hotel with a new breath of fresh air. Enthusiastic brothers with sisters-in-law/girlfriends who breathe new life into the atmosphere of the hotel. In true German fashion, with respect for the region and a touch of “Dutch”, it is a nice, cozy hotel with good food and a nice atmosphere.

We were able to enjoy a very nice evening here with 10 people until 2:00 a.m. Perfect service even late at night, always friendly and attentive. You couldn't ask for more! Or to put it briefly: we felt sooooo comfortable 👍 great!

Hartz Hotel Waldhaus Oker was our starting point for a walk along the Oker river. Beautiful terrace, you can hear the river flowing, a really lovely place. Delicious beer from the region, top schnitzels too 👍. We certainly hope to come there again.

Were there for the wine and beer tasting. Great drinks and super delicious food. Excellent and very friendly hosts. Price performance ratio top. We'd love to come back. 🤗

I spent 3 days here with my father going hiking. The welcome was great and the new rooms are beautifully renovated and very clean. The food is also very delicious, I would recommend the nachos with pulled pork! In short: Top location Good staff Delicious food Nice rooms I will definitely come back here one day

This beautiful hotel is located at the starting point/end point of a fantastic walk, namely 'the rock formations of the Ocher Valley'. This hotel is run by two Dutch families, who have owned the hotel since January 2024. The service is very friendly and cordial. You immediately feel welcome. We first did the walk and then enjoyed a well-deserved beer and yes... a portion of Dutch bitterballen. They have a good menu with plenty to choose from, for a good price-quality ratio. For us it was just a matter of sitting on a terrace, so I can't say much about the hotel and the rooms. Everything looked neat inside. And for a double room with breakfast you pay 95 euros per night. Also an excellent price. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Who knows, we might come back again and spend the night here. We wish the owners the best of luck with the hotel and hopefully see you again soon.

I was there to have a drink. The Waldhaus has a hall, a small menu in the restaurant, a beautiful terrace for enjoying coffee and cake and is a hotel. The Dutch operators are extremely friendly. A really classic excursion point. The building, which is over 100 years old, was constructed of wood. As an Okeran resident and someone who is very fond of tradition, I am really pleased that the venerable house lives on as a catering establishment.

Great atmosphere. Nice personel. Great view. Mega room. 🌷We stayed there overnight. The breakfast was very economical, unfortunately the rolls didn't taste good and expired products were served, which is a shame. Otherwise great hotel. 🫶

What a warm welcome we received from the new owners! The service they provide feels like a warm blanket. And they have a good sense of whether they can have a chat (joke) with you or whether they should let the guest do their own thing. The hotel has a pleasant ambiance and is authentic. Hikers and nature lovers have come to the right place here. But there are also nice villages in the vicinity, where you can sit on a terrace. We will definitely come back!!

We had our family celebration there in the large hall on Saturday. There was a great buffet with spare ribs and, for example, chicken wings and a great barbecue sauce (all homemade). What a beautiful place, and a wonderful welcome from the new nice owners. Who have transformed this authentic, beautiful location into an attractive and cozy hotel. The food is good. And plenty of fun nearby for active excursions! Highly recommended in the Harz.

The hotel has been transferred to new management in 2024. A lot of improvements are being made in and around the hotel. Renovated rooms, increased security and adaptations for the future that will make the building last for the next 100 years.

I wasn't a guest at the hotel, so I can't say anything about it. But I ate here today after a hike and was served very quickly by a very friendly lady. The food also tasted good. I can therefore recommend the restaurant!

Not particularly likeable. The offer is only for hotel guests, although the house is signposted everywhere on the hiking trails. As a hiker, you can't even fill up a water bottle for the equivalent of 0.2 cents a liter. I would also have liked to have paid with one euro. There are free refill stations elsewhere. If you arrive after a 5-hour hiking tour and still have a lot of distance to go, it's more than disappointing. It goes without saying that we won't be staying here again as hotel guests. Too bad, Oker!

We had lunch there with the family on a Sunday. The new owners are very friendly and have put a lot of effort into making sure we are happy. The Waldhaus has a good starting point for hikes.

Today, in my distress, I stopped at the bus stop in front of the hotel because I was feeling really bad... I specifically didn't stop in the parking lot because it says "For Guests Only" in big letters. I wanted my distress, I was extremely sick (which I didn't want to get rid of either in the car with my children or on this private property). So, as someone familiar with the area, I wanted to go a few meters into the forest...but suddenly I was shouted at in a very unfriendly manner with a Dutch accent , I should piss off, it's private property, there's no peeing here! When I said, that's fine, I want to go on the forest path, I was barked at again in an unfriendly manner, there's no peeing here, it's all private!!!! I wonder if, as a restaurateur, it's really a good way to just write to people in the dark, when you don't know why and why they're going that way now????? One less store for me to try...

Just don't! Hotel building is old and moderately well renovated. Everything smells musty and old. It is on a LOUD thoroughfare. The landlord was first friendly and then extremely unfriendly and dismissive. If it were possible to give zero stars, that would be appropriate.

I am extremely disappointed with the rudeness I experienced at this hotel. When I called to ask about simple overnight accommodations, I was interrupted mid-sentence and received an incomprehensible answer. When I asked for confirmation as to whether there was a two-night minimum booking period, I was told, "It's all explicitly stated on the website." I tried to thank politely, but there was complete silence on the other end of the line. To my surprise, the gentleman had already hung up while I was still speaking.

... I'm not a fan of negative reviews. But it has to be here. As a rule, problems can be solved with communication - but not here. I didn't even get to say anything. Yes, we saw the sign “FOR HOTEL GUESTS ONLY”! Five meters from the sign, a man with a Dutch accent runs towards us and asks whether we can't read. After that, they didn't even get to say anything else. The only solution was to turn around and leave. In any case, this location won't see us again...

Nach zwei Stunden Wanderung an einem Sonntag Mitte August dort angekommen. Hotel zu, Café zu, von Pommes Piet (Kiosk war auch zu) angeschnauzt worden, wir sollen verschwinden, ob wir nicht lesen könnten: "Nur für Hotel-Gäste". Wir wären auch gern Gäste gewesen, aber die wollen im Sommer anscheinend kein Geschäft machen! Sah auch insgesamt ziemlich abgeranzt aus!

Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und fanden die Gastgeber sehr freundlich und um unser wohl besorgt, wir freuen uns auf das nächste mal, können es nur sehr empfehlen. Andre und Tina

Waren auf Durchreise bei einer Wanderung-nur den Imbiss getestet , da das Restaurant mittags geschlossen hatte. Das waren nicht die angepriesenen holländischen Pommes … dünne , recht versalzene Pommes in einer Einwegplastikschale. Die Frikandel separat ebenfalls in einer Plastikschale… mit dürftiger Garnitur drauf. Mineralwasser gab es nicht - wurde auch nlcht besorgt -schade …

Von der Straße aus sieht es noch sehr einladend aus. Bei näherer Betrachtung muß man leider sagen das außer ein paar Eimern Farbe von außen nicht viel investiert wurde in das Gebäude. Wir hatten uns auf leckere holländische Pommes gefreut( so sah es zumindest aus) , die in einem kleinen Imbisswagen vor dem Hotel offeriert werden. Mit holländischen Pommes oder Snacks hat dieser Imbiss leider nichts gemeinsam. Das waren die schlechtesten Pommes die ich seit langem gegessen habe. Schrumpelig und versalzen. Die Frikandel mickrig. Und obwohl bei uns in DE bereits nicht mehr gestattet, Einwegplastikgeschirr. Wenig nachhaltig. Zum Hotel kann ich nichts sagen, wir haben hier nicht übernachtet, wenn ich es aber nach dem äußeren Eindruck beurteilen soll würde ich hier nicht absteigen wollen! Schon äußerlich ungepflegt ohne Wohlfühlatmosphäre. Sehr Schade. Eigentlich ein schöner Ort der früher am Wochenende ein sehr beliebtes Ausflugslokal war. Wenn es wieder so werden soll wie früher dann müsste man schon etwas mehr Geld investieren lieber Piet. So aber, wird das leider nichts! Gut gedacht, schlecht gemacht

Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen, wir wurden herzlich aufgenommen und bewirtet, man nahm sich auch Zeit für Gespräche. Auch unser Hundchen war herzlich willkommen. Es ist zwar etwas abgelegen, auch das ist kein Problem, denn der Bus hält auch fast vor der Tür. Zum Erholen bestens zu empfehlen.

Liebe Leute, es ist nicht zu empfehlen dieses Waldhaus zu besuchen, ich habe noch nie so ein "Hotel" gesehen. Es ist einfach nur unmöglich.

Tolles Hotel super nette Bewirtung leider auf Grund der hohen Energiekosten etwas zu kalt aber sehr nachvollziehbar da es ein charmantes sehr altes restauriertes Hotel ist was momentan schwer warm zu halten ist.Wir haben uns trotz allem sehr wohl gefühlt. Tolle Zimmer.

Das Waldhaus im Okertal ist der ideale Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen in den Harz, speziell für die Harzer Wandernadel. Das Hotel hat ein uriges Ambiente und eine leckere holländische Küche. Die Betreiber sind sehr nett und haben viel Zeit und Arbeit in das Waldhaus gesteckt. Es ist alles sehr sauber und das Frühstück war lecker.

Wir waren mit unseren beiden Hunden diese Woche im Waldhotel und sind sehr zufrieden mit dieser Wahl gewesen. Das Hotel ist sehr sauber und die Gastgeber sehr freundlich. Wir würden uns immer wieder für dieses Hotel entscheiden.

Sehr nette und herzliche Gastgeber,immer präsent und hilfsbereit. Essen nur für Übernachtungsgäste (da wie überall Personalmangel) Hotel einfach aber sauber und ordentlich. Frühstück mit warmen Brötchen ist reichhaltig und gut. Wir würden hier wieder übernachten.

Mit unserer zehnköpfigen Wandergruppe aus Hannover kamen wir ausgehungert und stark durstig in dem wunderschönen Okertal an. Obwohl wir keine Hotelgäste waren bekamen wir kühle Getränke an den Stehtisch nach draußen geliefert. Der freundliche Wirt mit seinen charmanten Töchtern hat uns wirklich toll unterhalten. Dass die dritte Runde komplett aufs Haus ging.... damit haben wir nicht gerechnet. Die XXL Schnitzel waren der Traum. Ausreichend Biofleisch und kaum Panade. Das war gut! Vielen lieben Dank und weiter so geliefert.

Sehr nette Unterkunft direkt am Okertal. Gastfreundlichkeit steht an erster Stelle! Die Zimmer sind sauber und gepflegt eingerichtet, man fühlt sich wohl und es ist sehr ruhig trotz der Bundesstraße. Das Frühstück ist gut, die Brötchen waren noch warm und auf Wunsch machte das Wirtspaar uns Abends super leckere Pfannkuchen! Optimal als Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen und Unternehmungen. Wir werden wieder hingehen!
