Waldgasthof Gut Wolfsaap in Düsseldorf

We visited the Waldgasthof for the first time on a recommendation. Excellent value for money – it's been a long time since we've had such good food at a reasonable price. Everyone will definitely leave satisfied :-) The service was friendly and attentive in a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

Good food and very friendly owners and staff. Good, home-style cooking at a reasonable price. So, no fancy stuff on the plate, and a normal price :-). Due to the size of the restaurant, you have to be lucky to get a table or make a reservation early. In summer, it's a bit more relaxed, as tables are added on the terrace.

Almost hidden behind the horse stud farm is a cozy inn. Enjoy a Füchschen Alt beer with Düsseldorfer Senfrostbraten or Sauerbraten.

Here, you can enjoy good food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. It's a country inn like the ones you'd expect from a country inn. The host and hostess make you feel truly welcome.

We would come back anytime. A reservation is a good idea. We would have liked to sit outside, but all the tables were reserved. When we left, they were still unoccupied. Hence one star deduction. Perhaps a sign saying reserved from xx o'clock should be put up.

Good, home-style food, quite full and therefore loud, nice beer garden outside (unfortunately with a strong smell of horses).

It looks uninviting, like the clubhouse of the attached riding stable. Almost all the tables outside were empty and blocked off with "reserved" signs, even though there were almost no guests present. Consequently, we preferred another location. The parking lot wasn't immediately visible to those unfamiliar with the area. Conclusion: So, less of a "forest inn" and more of a farm with a huge riding stable, where non-equestrian visitors are just a nuisance—that's how I imagine it.

Very tasty, everything homemade, even the applesauce and red cabbage. It's great that something like this still exists! The chicken salad was surprisingly large and varied, with fresh fruit. It gets very busy on weekends and holidays, so reservations are recommended.

We weren't welcome because we didn't have a reservation. It's not simply a matter of no table being available, but rather that we were treated with disrespect. Currently free tables on the terrace would soon be taken again, and there are generally no tables available in the restaurant because otherwise the kitchen would be overwhelmed. Furthermore, on weekends, only people with reservations would be served. This was made clear to us in a very unfriendly tone after we repeatedly approached the waitress. Before that, we were ignored. A real shame, since we made the trek through the forest specifically for this restaurant. At least the website should point out that reservations are mandatory.

However, I would like to highlight the consistently delicious dishes, 4 of which I have already tested and which I would all describe as top gastronomy. I have never eaten a better Düsseldorf mustard roast. Conclusion: A thumb for the palate.👍🏼 Summer outdoor dining is available next to the extensive stud farm, as well as a delightful cake menu at coffee time. The only downer: difficult access. My recommendation: get there via Reichswaldallee/corner of Am Bauenhaus (stop Hubertushain).

Es ist immer wieder ein unbeschreibliches Glücksgefühl, wenn man auf Gastronomiebetriebe trifft, bei denen alles nahezu perfekt ist: -Ein gastfreundschaftliches Betreiberpaar -Eine Küchencrew, die Ihresgleichen sucht -Aufmerksamer, schneller Service -Eine faires Preis-Leistungsverhältnis -Blitzblanke, ansprechende Sanitärräume -Schönes Ambiente -Eine gute Getränkekarte. Herausheben möchte ich allerdings die durchweg leckeren Gerichte, von denen ich jetzt bereits 4 getestet habe und die ich alle durchweg als Spitzengastronomie bezeichnen würde. Einen besseren Düsseldorfer Senfrostbraten aß ich noch nie. Fazit: Ein Daumen für den Gaumen.👍🏼 Sommerliche Außengastro neben dem weitläufigen Gestüt vorhanden, ebenso wie eine erfreuliche Kuchenkarte zur Kaffeezeit. Einziger Wermutstopfen: Schwierige Anfahrt. Meine Empfehlung: Über Reichswaldallee/ Ecke Am Bauenhaus (Haltestelle Hubertushain) anfahren.

1/24/25 - We know the landlord of Gut Wolfsaap from his time at Gut Knittkuhle (until around 2011). We enjoyed eating there back then and also invited the family there for some celebrations (weddings, baptisms, school enrolments). After he moved to Gut Wolfsaap, we were unfortunately only there very rarely (because we were also moving away). So yesterday I finally went there again and it was like before: the menu was almost identical (both visually and in terms of content), the atmosphere was rustic and the dishes - just like before - were very tasty. I enjoyed eating the Fuhrmannspfanne over 20 years ago and it was just as delicious yesterday as it was back then. If I understood correctly, the same chef cooks there. It's rare to have this much consistency in the catering industry these days (partly because of the pandemic) and you can really appreciate that. We would be very, very happy to come back.

Finding this place was an adventure, as Google Maps led our car off-road into some barely-existent forest paths. We were lucky to get help from another couple who, funny enough, happened to be in the same situation. But hidden in the uncharted woods there was a real treasure! A very nice lady managed to sit us, although the place was already quite full. Food was a wonder! - incredibly tasty and brought fast. The home-like vibe of this place is absolutely heartwarming. A happy adventure followed by an impeccable dinner - what else could one wish for? 🥰

No idea what the food was like, we were 'not allowed' to eat. Without a reservation this wouldn't be possible. Which is basically not a problem if, on the one hand, you are informed about it beforehand (perhaps on the website???) and, on the other hand, the service employee at least reveals this information in a friendly manner. She left us standing in the entrance with a harsh but simple no to our question and disappeared. So there wasn't even a drink. That was very annoying after a medium bike ride.

Very nice café, very good food, but the service was a disaster. It was full and everyone was busy. However, the service left us after 15 minutes. Waiting time wasn't even acknowledged as a glance until new guests arrived at the next table and they relatively quickly held a menu in their hands. When we asked if we could get one, we only got the answer that she thought we were previous guests because the empty dishes were still there. After taking the order, the coffee came relatively quickly, the rest took a while to arrive. In the meantime we already had the food, but still no drinks. It was only when we asked that they finally arrived. When we wanted to pay we had to ask several times. The waitress herself didn't respond to calls and didn't even look in our direction. When we asked that we weren't satisfied, we were told: "It's because of the kitchen, it just takes a while. It's just full today." No apologies whatsoever! No apologies whatsoever; And it definitely wasn't the kitchen. The food was excellent and arrived relatively quickly after we ordered it. We're happy to wait a bit when it's full, but that was ignorant and arrogant.

Die Bedienung nett, höflich und kompetent. Das Essen, "Rheinischer Sauerbraten" und "Omlett mit Ziegenkäse", einsame Spitze und der Nachtisch "Eis mit heißen Kirschen" und "Schokokuchen" auch nicht zu verachten. Rundum zufrieden und haben wir Lokalität verlassen und kommen bestimmt wieder. Die Speisekarte hat noch einige Essen, gut bürgerlich, die noch probiert werden müssen.

We had an appointment there with a colleague who had been there several times and recommended it. We were NOT disappointed. The welcome from the Chrf was warm. The service was nice, polite and competent. The food, “Rheinischer Sauerbraten” and “Omlette with goat cheese”, was a standout and the dessert “Ice cream with hot cherries” and “Chocolate cake” was also not to be despised. Completely satisfied, we left the location and will definitely come back. The menu still has some dishes, good home-style, that still need to be tried.

We met here for lunch for a small birthday party with 9 people. All guests were extremely enthusiastic about the friendly and very personal atmosphere. The food was the best I have enjoyed in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area in a long time. The goose was excellent, the sauerbraten like mother's, the rump steak was on point and the Fuhrmann's pan was simply delicious. I feel the need to express this here. The only small limitation was the low room temperature. So just dress warmly in the cold season. I'm still excited.

Wir waren heute nach einer Wanderung zum ersten Mal hier und überrascht wie gut das Restaurant schon um 12:08 Uhr war obwohl gerade erst aufgemacht. Die Bedienungen waren super freundlich. Schnell sind die Getränke gekommen und dann auch das Essen. Vorgewärmte Teller und ein großer leckerer Speckpfannekuchen rundeten den Besuch ab. Am Wochenende sollte man reservieren. Tolles Preis Leistungsverhältnis. Gerne wieder.

Wir waren zum ersten Mal im Gut Wolfsaap. Haben uns rundherum wohl gefühlt. Gemütliches Ambiente eines Reiterhofes. Das Essen war sehr lecker, großzügige Portionen schön angerichtet. In den Sommermonaten sollte man reservieren, wenn man im Biergarten sitzen möchte. Das Team rund um den schlagfertigen Wirt ist sehr freundlich und alle sind für die Gäste fleißig am herumwirbeln.
