We happened upon this place on our bike ride because our usual restaurant was still closed for vacation. Yes, it was a nice alternative; we could sit outside in the front yard. The food was good, although the green salad was already brown in places and a bit overcooked, but otherwise everything was fine.

Well, friends, the atmosphere isn't that great. Clocks are everywhere, and you feel like you've traveled back in time to 1970. I think grandpa and grandma were very nice and gave us good service. Unfortunately, there was a cockroach on the salad that I had to flick away immediately, otherwise my wife would have left straight away. The schnitzel with egg was okay, but we had to order it separately without the sauce. The fries weren't fully cooked and were still half raw. You still need to work on that. When everything's back to normal, I'd be happy to come back.

Wasn't sure if they were open, so I called and they were. The restaurant is part of a gardening association, open to guests. We had a lovely table outside on the grass. Service wasn't very fast, but the waiter did his best. The menu was small, but there was something for everyone. Delicious white wine and good Hefe Weizen beer. We both ordered a schnitzel with gypsy sauce; my wife ordered a "small" and I ordered a "large." They were super tasty, well-cooked, full of flavor, and plenty of sauce. They came with pommes, which were well-cooked and hot. All in all, a wonderful experience, and I haven't had such a good meal in Germany in a long time. If you're in the area, it's definitely recommended. I've saved it and will definitely be back.

The food is as usual, good, home-style cooking. A large portion, for example, schnitzel with fries costs €17.50. Salad now costs €4.50 extra. It's lovely to sit in the garden in summer. A very quiet location, ideal for relaxing. Excellent value for money, top! August 2025 Unfortunately, I have to report today that the quality of the dishes is declining, and the size of the dishes is also decreasing. It's a shame, I was disappointed!

Went to dinner at the Gartenfreunde Zay club restaurant on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024. Ordered a breaded schnitzel for a small hunger and a cup of coffee. The meal consisted of a breaded schnitzel and fries and no salad, at least there was a slice of lemon. Schnitzel and Pomnes were quite okay. When I went to pay it looked like the older lady didn't really know how to use the cash register, and I also had to pay €17! This is usury and pure rip-off. So be careful and not recommended!

Small home cooked food restaurant within the confines of communal garden allotments. Incredibly friendly hosts and decent selection of food and drinks. Portions were larger than average, and arrived fairly quickly. Well worth the visit!

Unfortunately, the meal today was not a joy Unfortunately, the fries were only half cooked Schnitzel tasted like pork with every bite.

The Zay club restaurant is an absolute hidden champion. It's a very idyllic (but simple) place to sit under the trees in the garden area. The waiter was surprisingly quick, relaxed and very attentive and friendly. Our dog was also immediately provided with water. The schnitzels are huge and absolute “men’s portions”. The prices are very fair. We'd love to come back!

Nice clubhouse with a beer garden. The schnitzel is awesome. Big, juicy, tender, fresh... simply super delicious. Not convenience goods. The prices are good and cheap.

Lecker Essen und schön große Portionen, ganz nach meinem Geschmack. Das Cordon Bleu war lecker und die Bratensoße ebenfalls. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Seit Jahren erlebt man bei Wirtin Elwine Tremmel in der Vereinsgaststätte Zay, was badische Wirtshauskultur ausmacht. Die Gerichte sind passend dazu und die Schnitzel bombastisch. Nach Corona-Zeiten ist es ein Genuss, im beschirmten Außenbereich die Atmosphäre zu genießen. Mittwoch ist Ruhetag und die Speisekarte ist erfreulich lokal-rustikal. Wohltuend auch das gehaltene niedrige Preisnìveau.

Exquisit, mehr kann man nicht sagen

Wir kommen schon über 30 Jahre zu den Gartenfreunden im Zay. Und schon in meiner Jugend konnte man hier gut und Günstig Essen. Das hat sich bis heute nicht geändert. Draußen zu sitzen umgeben von den Kleingärten das ist schon herrlich. Sehr gute Hausmannskost zu wirklich vernünftigen Preisen. Essen ohne Schicki Micki so wie es früher schon geschmeckt hat. Alkoholfreies Weizen für 2,50€ wo gibt's den noch sowas. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne. Nur zu Empfehlen. .

Das Essen war ganz gut, allerdings recht geringe Auswahl. Bei der Freundlichkeit kann man noch zulegen...

Kein 5 Sterne-Restaurant, aber eben eine 5 Sterne-Gaststätte. Faire Preise, solide Hausmannskost, uriger Style. Wer mit einer vernünftigen Erwartung dort hingeht, wird definitiv nicht enttäuscht. Und bei schönem Wetter ist der Biergarten natürlich echt klasse.

Gutes zünftiges Essen zu vernünftigen Preisen.
