"V. SCHEFFEL" - GOURMETRESTAURANT in Bad Staffelstein

My wife and I have now enjoyed a candlelight dinner here four times. The food and drinks are top-notch. The staff is extremely friendly and competent. You can clearly tell they enjoy what they do. Please keep up the good work.

Beautiful hotel restaurant with futuristic, cat-like robot waiters. The menu and wine pairing were good overall, but not consistently high quality across all courses. I would have preferred a bit more fruitiness, especially in the soup (mango and coconut cappuccino) and dessert. While the apple espuma with the fish certainly had that, it reminded me more of instant lemon iced tea than apple. The tasting of three high-quality olive oils with different salts, on the other hand, was a clever opening. Otherwise, everything from the Pata Negra ham, a welcome from the kitchen, to the cured Victoria perch, to the braised veal cheeks, was very good, although the highlights were the side dishes, such as the tuna with the soup (absolutely top-notch), the young pea risotto, and the truly outstanding ratatouille with the veal. Also excellent: the cheese at the end. As for the wine, I was otherwise inclined towards red, but was somewhat disappointed by this one. The Forster Scheurebe, on the other hand, surprised me very positively with its rather unusual acidity and freshness. Even though not everything was perfect, it was still a very pleasant evening, not least because of the very friendly and competent service, who clearly enjoyed their job.
