Yesterday, we had dinner in Santa Maria with our American friends. We went to the restaurant because our American daughter-in-law requested it, as we had been there together before. The food was good, as was the service (from the waiters). But then 😡 After we explained to our guests from the USA that you don't have to tip in Germany because the waiters get paid a normal salary – unlike in the USA – after paying (each family paid their own bill, a total of about €600), a supervisor or something similar came over and asked us if we weren't satisfied with the food/service because we hadn't tipped. Our son had rounded up his bill, but we forgot to do that this time when explaining how to pay for the others. Never in Germany has anyone come up and asked for a tip if you forgot to round up the amount. Are they perhaps trying to rip off American tourists because they're unfamiliar with local tipping practices? Yesterday was our third visit to this restaurant – and also the last. P.S. My husband found €20 in cash and gave it to the manager. We hope the waiter got the money :)

I chose a summer salad from the daily special and, for €16.80, clearly expected a larger portion... The waiter was immediately impatient when the card payment didn't work right away. A real shame... Upscale

A very chic Italian restaurant with a large selection of pizzas, pinsas, and pastas. The pizza dough is made fresh. Unfortunately, the filling of my calzone wasn't that tasty, but I can still wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant for dinner. There's a large outdoor area with a roof.

The gf pizza tasted so-so. The regular pizza was okay, but nothing special. It was also cold, but that's not even included. The delivery was extremely late, which isn't necessarily the shop's fault.

Nice pizzeria near Columbus Square. Waiters were attentive, the tables were very close together, the beer was sometimes lukewarm, the wine recommendation was good, and the pasta and pizza were tasty. Checking was complicated, and they couldn't issue a receipt. You had to bring your own food. We'll try it again and see if it improves.

As a celiac this was one of the best gluten free pizzas I have ever had. They use rice flour which tastes exquisit, arguably even better than regular flour.

Out of this world! This was by far the best restaurant visit I've had in a long time! I rarely go to Italian restaurants; most of the options bore me. But you made me rave! Incredibly warm hosts, a great menu, a very nice and clean restaurant with a lovely pizza oven (so inconspicuous from the outside because of the house and the hedge), but behind it lies a gem :) A very rich, fresh vitello tonnato, perfectly seasoned with super delicious bread – at a very fair price! The highlight was the pinsa tartufo. Incredibly fluffy dough with a great flavor, potato slices, cheese, and black truffle. Perfectly combined and perfectly balanced. My girls loved it too. Too bad there wasn't room for dessert! My next visit to Munich? I'll definitely be back! Thanks for everything!

I ordered seafood risotto at this restaurant, among other things, and made it clear that I would like this dish. The food tasted good, so I had no problem with that. The ambiance was good too. However, I was served spaghetti with seafood, and I politely told the waitress that I would like my original dish. She then tried to convince me to order the spaghetti they had brought me and push it on me, simply because the kitchen apparently lacked the insight to correct its mistakes. I really don't like it when people try to serve me something I don't want. They apologized, which is fine, but they didn't offer me my original dish at all. That's very unfair, and they left me in the bad mood I was in. I've always had good experiences with this restaurant, and I've enjoyed spending money here and enjoying the good things in life. But with this action, you've lost me as a customer. Clearly and forever. It would have only cost you an exchange of food and honesty, but that's what you get now.

I had ordered a gluten-free pizza without ham, along with four other pizzas. When I picked it up, I heard the waiter tell the pizza maker that the pizza was ordered without ham. The pizza maker fled. I had to wait and assumed the pizza would be remade - but it wasn't. I got a pizza with raw ham shoved into the top and right at the bottom, presumably so they could claim they had misunderstood the order. It's a complete disgrace, and knowingly giving me the wrong food is a service 10000.

Cosy interior design, happening atmosphere and delicious Italian food! The grilled calamari were extremely tasty and very tender, and the side of vegetables were fresh and had a slight bite to them. The generous portion of tiramisu was the highlight of the evening: creamy and smooth mascarpone cream layered between coffee soaked ladysfingers. The prices are on the higher end, however in line with Munich prices and the service was efficient and friendly.

Excellent food but I am a little concerned that they apparently don't have potable tap water, which seems like an important thing to have if you're a pasta restaurant, to say nothing of how they get the dishes clean - perhaps the dog is extremely well-fed 🤔

Used to be my favorite Italian restaurant, but unfortunately the quality of the food has deteriorated considerably. I don't know if there's a new chef now, but the lunch menus in particular have gotten a lot worse. I used to come here regularly for lunch with my family and work colleagues, but I won't be going there in the future. In the past, we often had grilled meat and grilled vegetables, grilled rosemary potatoes, etc., but now it's more like saucepan food like you'd get from the canteen. Cooked vegetables in a pot, carelessly cooked potatoes, cooked with meat. Almost inedible in some parts and no longer the standard and quality of recent years. I also have to say that some of the service staff are unfriendly, annoyed and listless as they work. I haven't experienced that in previous years either; all the service staff have been very nice and friendly so far, but unfortunately the new service staff are extremely unmotivated and unfriendly. There have been complaints from several guests in the last few weeks, as well as constructive feedback, which is not being taken seriously. Just indifference and none of the customer service I've come to expect at Santa Maria. I understand that it's become difficult to find good staff, but the current service and food quality are even driving away regulars.

This pizzeria is a real insider tip – the food is excellent, and every pizza tastes like it's freshly made in Italy. I was particularly impressed by the real pizza oven, which gives the pizzas that distinctive, crispy crust. The ambiance is super cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening with friends or family. A big plus: They also offer gluten-free pizzas that are absolutely delicious – there's really no need to compromise here! The value for money is also top-notch – for the quality of the ingredients and the great overall package, you're paying more than fair. In conclusion: If you love good pizza, you'll love this pizzeria. Highly recommended!

3 years ago My husband and I were really looking forward to eating there. With so many good reviews, especially the gluten-free option, we thought nothing could go wrong. It was a Tuesday midweek, and it was busy, but still within reason. We had a good impression; we got a good table and were greeted really warmly. About five minutes later, our order was taken. After 25 minutes, we almost both got drinks. Unfortunately, my husband got it mixed up, but then he got his soda five minutes later. They explained to us that our slip of paper had gotten lost, and we repeated our orders. Others who arrived after us had already had drinks and food. Another 20 minutes later, our appetizer, vitello tonato, arrived. Unfortunately, the meat was very dry and there was far too little sauce. I was really disappointed. I bet everything on my gluten-free pizza tonno. A total of 1.5 hours later, a pizza arrived. When I asked if it was gluten-free, I was told no, but a new one arrived immediately. In fact, this one arrived less than 10 minutes later, but I asked myself why it wasn't so quick. I was disappointed here too. I don't know how they do it. The tuna was dry, the base was OK. My husband had a regular lasagna, which he thought was OK, but nothing special. One might have expected a discount or free drinks, or at least a shot or dessert as an apology for this inconvenience, but nothing. We are simply disappointed and will certainly not eat there again.

We went there for lunch. There was a daily special with no prices. We had a mixed salad (€6), which was bland and bitter; pepper was only added upon request. Then we had spaghetti carbonara (€16) and a plate of mixed meat (€22). The spaghetti tasted of flour and eggs, and there was barely any sauce. The meat was mostly tough and a joke for €22. It came with a few leaves of lettuce, no fries, or anything else. Our question about ketchup was denied. Together with a Coke and a beer, we spent €52.60, which was a shame.

A wonderful authentic Italian restaurant. The food really is exceptionally tasty, freshly made, and not too expensive. The staff was welcoming and friendly, always smiling and accommodating.

There were five of us sitting inside the restaurant. It felt a bit cramped, but it still had charm and was beautifully decorated. The service was impeccable; always attentive, always friendly, and orders were brought quickly. We had pizza and pinsa, which were all delicious. We all enjoyed ourselves and will definitely come back.

0 stars... Just ordered and picked up. When you unpacked it you could see all the oil everywhere. First took out 8 tablespoons of oil. A disaster!!!! Oh, the little black dots are supposed to be the truffle... And that for 50€ Doesn't work at all... Then go to La Migliore

The food was as expected. The service was very bad. When we entered the restaurant and greeted the waiter, there was a waiter who clearly heard but pretended not to hear and just looked at his phone. We were very sure that he was not serving anyone else. Later, other waiters led us to our seats, and the first waiter came to serve us. He kept a straight face from beginning to end, did not look at us, and had no polite words. Later, when we were about to go out after eating, we asked him where the toilet was. He didn't even say anything and pointed backwards with his thumb indifferently. We were put off by the poor service, which we felt was not what a restaurant should be.

I discovered this lovely restaurant during my visit to Munich and was thoroughly impressed! The food was delicious, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which adds to the charm. The menu features a wide variety of options, including meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes, catering to all preferences. There’s also a great selection of drinks to complement the meal. The service was excellent, and the staff were friendly and attentive. A big plus for me was that they spoke English, making it much easier as a visitor from the UK. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great dining Italian restaurant experience in Munich!

PERFECT. Excellent food. GLUTENFREE PIZZA. VERY VERY GOOD. Best atmosphere inside, smells of frech pizza / bakery. Super and subtle decoration and lighting. Music not loud. WC tastfully decorated, music louder. Very clean. My husband liked his pinsa no much, he ordered a second one. The waiter suggested really good wine (we had a rosé). If i lived there, i would go to Santa Maria every other day!

Best pizza ever 🤩🤩🤩 - both the “normal” one, but especially the gluten-free one. It's unbelievable how brilliantly successful and unique the homemade gluten-free dough is. The choice of toppings is not run of the mill, but very diverse and, above all, of a freshness and quality that is second to none. I found the ambience to be perfect, a feel-good place. The great ventilation system is also very pleasant, as it ensures filtered air without any drafts. I was even pleasantly surprised by the prices. I felt like I was in good hands with the Dream Team and would love to come back! Thank you for a wonderful evening 🙏

We had earmarked this place for food as we were visiting the beer bar nearby .. Brewsli. We were definitely ready for food and it was delicious. In fact the pizza and pasta which we shared, were both as good as I can recall.

Wonderful Trattoria Across the River – Well Worth the Short Bus Ride (No. 52) Trattoria Santa Maria offers a charming atmosphere, delicious handmade pizzas, and a tempting selection of pastas, fish, meat dishes, and, of course, desserts. The service is warm, friendly, and professional, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. An English menu is also available. As expected from a good trattoria, the menu is extensive. I started with Vitello Tonnato, a classic dish done beautifully—the veal was perfectly tender and pink, while the tuna and caper sauce was piquant and flavourful. I found myself scraping up every last drop with my bread. For the main, I chose the Pizza Frutti di Mare. While tasty, it was slightly underwhelming, with only a small seafood medley. Personally, I love seafood pizzas piled with big, juicy prawns, mussels, and chunks of baby octopus smothered in garlic—but that might be too much to ask this far from the ocean in Munich! One touch I really appreciated was that since we decided to share the pizza, it was brought to our table already divided onto two plates—a small but thoughtful detail that sets a great restaurant apart. For dessert, we enjoyed a classic Tartufo and a plate of two warm ravioli filled with poppy seeds and smothered in cinnamon — both simply delicious. Trattoria Santa Maria is absolutely worth the short trip if you’re looking for a reasonably priced, tasty, and memorable meal. Our bill for two, including drinks, came to around €75, making it excellent value for the quality of food and service.

My daughter was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and we have been in the discovery phase of gluten-free products ever since. We came across Trattoria Santa Maria, which also offers all pizzas gluten-free. My daughter (4) loves(!) the gluten-free Margherita pizza and we were also more than thrilled. Thank you for offering this option here and we will definitely come by/order here more often.

A nice restaurant with friendly service. Although still irrelevant to me, the baby equipment seems exquisite. The pizza was also very good, but unfortunately it came much later than my companion's pasta. A forgotten drink or two isn't a big deal either. However, at some point we were no longer asked if we wanted anything. That was actually a bit of a shame. Because the atmosphere is pleasant. Even when the restaurant is full, it doesn't get too noisy. You definitely feel comfortable here for a very long time.

The starter consisted of antipasti vegetables and various pickled snacks. The pizza was good, but nothing special, we thought the pinsa was sensationally good. All in all, a good restaurant experience with a few flaws.

We have been coming to Trattoria Santa Maria again and again for about a year. The food has always been delicious and fresh; the portion sizes are appropriate. Very nice restaurant that offers gluten-free pizzas. The dough is homemade and I had no symptoms (celiac disease) after eating it. The waiter was in a good mood and made a lot of jokes. I can recommend it for a sociable evening.

Slightly away from the centre, in a quiet residential area, excellent Italian restaurant where you can also eat excellent pizza. Friendly and helpful staff, as well as the owner. If we would return to Munich, we would certainly be his guests.

It was a really disappointing experience. I ordered an Italian pizza, but it was served cold and was not fresh. I informed the waiter about this, but he didn’t pay attention until I called him for the third time. He then offered to replace my pizza, but I didn’t trust the same meal and decided to order a Margherita pizza instead. Despite the trouble with my original pizza, they still billed me for the more expensive one that I couldn’t even eat.

Ordered a tiramisu + panacotta today. Tiramisu was OK, but the portion was very small. However, Panacotta was a joke. A dollop of cream and a little cherry sauce slapped on top. Then you were charged over 8 euros. A total of 16.80 euros was then charged upon collection, while the invoice only showed 14.60 euros. Not the fine kind.

The atmosphere with the many Christmas trees is definitely nice so that people should come in. Waiting for a table was relatively long. Then you have to wait a long 15 minutes until the food/drinks menu arrives Then wait again for drinks and food. 15 minutes drinks 30 minutes pizza Lagsane has been waited for 40 minutes and is served lukewarm in a cold soup bowl. Pizza calzone surface burnt (see photo) Spice bowls with chili were rancid. Lagsane served cold and mini portions in cold soup bowls. Despite a complaint, the salamander didn't get hot for another 10 minutes!!! Drinks have to wait a long time and reordering takes ages!!! Next table 8 people also waited a long time! Still have to pay the bill in full no insight from the basement and no apology for the long wait. Normally this shouldn't be tolerated. I read the review and you can see it can be better than when we visited.

Unfortunately, the quality of the restaurant is continually declining and today was definitely the last time I was there. Chaotic hustle and bustle in the shop and a warmed-up lasagne... that's enough!
