Perhaps the best pizza ever! Small restaurant, secluded, top-notch cuisine, I'll gladly return whenever I'm in Essen 😋

A very cozy trattoria. There were seven of us, and we were all happy with our choices. The pasta dishes were very generous. We had a lovely evening there, and I would definitely eat there again.

I hadn't expected this experience at all. Inconspicuously located on a main road, you'll find this truly excellent Italian restaurant. The menu isn't too extensive and the prices are perfectly reasonable. The food was delicious and the service was great.

I'm from Aachen and stayed in Essen for a few days. I ate there twice. The pizza was delicious and the pasta was excellent. If you're coming with a group, it's best to make a reservation; if you're alone, you just need a little luck. The staff is incredibly friendly and the prices are very reasonable.

We had a starter and a main course. We'd just finished the starter and the main course was already here. It's a shame you can't just enjoy everything so quickly. The food was good otherwise.

The hidden gem. I found it. Are you looking for the cosy restaurant with good food and affordable prices . Well here you have it. Just on the edge of the Essen city center. Definitely worth a visit if you favor traditional itallian food with friendly service.

Service was fast and friendly, but the quality of the food and wine a bit disappointing. Raw aubergine on the pizza, and grated mozzarella on margarita. Cannelloni was ok but heavy on cheese and cream. One glass of Nero d’Avola (granted, it was a more than generous serving) gave me a headache the next morning.

Cozy atmosphere, great and fast service. The food was a underwhelming and to an extent not proper. We felt that the cheese of the pizza was under the reasonable quality. And some dishes like the cannelloni were well prepared but they were dull. A for effort but should have tried more in the food preparation.

A nice little trattoria with a small menu. The salad was okay. The bread with aioli as a starter was great.

I was there with my clients from Asia during Essen Spiel 2025. There's a lot of construction around the main train station at the moment, so walking there was a bit unpleasant. But it was absolutely worth it. Highly recommended. I've rarely eaten so well.

The food was truly excellent. Not your umpteenth Italian fast food joint, but a nice little restaurant with the appropriate quality. The service was very attentive. The ambiance was a little disappointing, but we'd be happy to come back!

Everything was great! The pasta portions were quite big (around 200 g). We tried four different pastas, and they were all good, although a bit saltier than what I usually prefer. It wasn’t too salty to eat, but I’d rather have it with a little less salt.

The food was modern, especially the pasta. Everything was perfect – from appetizer to dessert.

A truly wonderful, small, family-run restaurant. The staff are super friendly and attentive. Even the email after I reserved a table was so sweet. We felt completely at home and would have loved to eat there again, but unfortunately, we didn't have the time. If we're ever in Essen again, this will be our place to go. 5 stars because more is not possible. There are few restaurants where you receive an attentive and friendly welcome, so it's all the more pleasing when you experience something like this at La Famiglia. We went there on a Saturday evening as a group of three for dinner during a short stay at Movie Park. We were greeted warmly and asked to choose a table. Our 4-year-old daughter insisted on sitting at the bench, which was clearly too big – no problem for the hosts. We ordered two pizzas and one pasta. Since there was no children's menu, we asked if it was possible to get a smaller portion for our daughter. Absolutely no problem, whether pizza or pasta, we can get any dish in a smaller size – great :-) The welcome from the kitchen was surprising but all the more delicious – pizza rolls with homemade aioli, at least as delicious as the rest. To finish off, there was even "Kinder Limoncello" (Fanta in a shot glass with ice). A small gesture with a great effect. I'm happy to spend my money here, but unfortunately, due to the distance, it won't be that often. Other restaurants are welcome to take a seat here and relearn what hospitality means.

The translation of Trattoria La Famiglia - "family restaurant" - is 100% accurate for this restaurant. Not only is the food truly delicious, plentiful, and beautifully presented, but the family that runs this restaurant is also incredibly hospitable. Since I was here for work, it felt like coming home. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and pleasant conversations. The service is also really good, friendly, and attentive. The overall package is just right here, and anyone who finds something to complain about here is complaining at a very high level. I'm sure we'll see each other again - and if not at your restaurant, then in Weyhe :)

I don't often give reviews. But I have to write something here. It is a really nice, lovingly run family restaurant. Mama cooks with heart and you can taste it. This was our second time there and as I said, the food is great. The service is great, a real person. Go here it is recommended. A real gem! The restaurant is run with a lot of heart and passion by a wonderful family who welcomes their guests with great warmth. You immediately feel welcome here! The lasagne in particular is a dream – homemade, perfectly seasoned and incredibly tasty. But the other dishes are also delicious and prepared with a lot of love. If you want to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine in a family atmosphere, you've come to the right place. The Albanian from Stuttgart.

Because of further professional development, I spent three nights in Essen and always had dinner at Trattoria La Famiglia. It was delicious every time and the staff was super friendly. If I'm in Essen again, I'd be happy to come back.

Was seated in a nice spot without a reservation despite the busy period. Wine was good and the tagliatelle with tomato cream sauce and shrimp was also good. Price performance was right and I would go there again.

Delicious Italian food. The prices are in the middle segment, fair and appropriate for the quality of the food. Stauder on tap and free rolls with spread and limonchello as a nightcap served with the meal. The waitress was very friendly and always there immediately when you were thinking about ordering something. Great, we ate there for the 7th time and everyone was completely satisfied. The atmosphere is ok, could be nicer and more comfortable. Standard seats and no proper separation from the adjacent tables.

Spontaneously looked for a restaurant and discovered this small, cozy restaurant. The atmosphere was very appealing and the service was extremely friendly! We had bruschetta, pizza tonno and spaghetti with prawns. Everything was extremely tasty and the prices were also reasonable. Highly recommended! 👍

It's a small restaurant, but the staff is really friendly. Pasta is delicious. There are a lot of them. Margherita pizza is a bit salty for Korean tastes. I felt the same way when I traveled to the US or other European countries, so I don't think it's a problem with this restaurant. The prices were not expensive compared to other German restaurants. In particular, it is kindness that prompted me to write this article. Two people ordered three menus. The dining table for two was small and a bit inconvenient, but they allowed me to use another table even though it was busy. And we accidentally left our bags behind, but even in the rain, they came running and handed us our bags. Thank you so much.

We went there spontaneously for dinner. 2 adults and a 7 year old. My son was allowed to place his own order very lovingly and special requests were also implemented accordingly. The food came promptly and was extremely tasty. Large portions and really tasty. Loving treatment and no complaints.

A small family-run restaurant. The food, service and service were excellent. Small drawback... the lighting. Every table was well lit, so I would have found it more comfortable if the big lights weren't on, but that didn't detract from the meal

Waiting time for the food was ok. The rump steak was quite well done, but the menu was good overall. The kitchen was closed at 10 p.m. and so no dessert was possible after dinner. It's a shame, it could have been said.

Super tasty pasta and the pizzas are also a dream. There is also only a deduction for the ambience because the shop is unfortunately right on a main street and the owners have just hung up lamps. BUT: that doesn't detract from the food. It was super tasty, we will come back ;-)

The two of us were in Essen for a sporting event and wanted to have an Italian lunch near the main train station. We discovered Trattoria La Famiglia right on a busy main road. Since we didn't want to sit outside in the small outdoor area right on the sidewalk and street, we took a seat in the restaurant. The restaurant offers only a few seats compared to other restaurants, but this has a certain charm, which is further enhanced by the very attentive service and the furnishings with attention to detail (e.g. a real red rose in the vase on every table). The menu offers everything you would expect in an Italian restaurant (fish, pizza, pasta, starters, sweets). We chose the tortellini with ham and cream sauce with ham, tomato penne with chicken and bruschetta as a starter, a bottle of St. Pellegrino and an iced tea. We were really pleasantly and positively surprised at the prices. The starter was 6.50 euros and our main courses were 10-12 euros, and that's in today's times. The food was served fresh and warm and tasted really delicious. The quality of the food used was okay and in keeping with the price. The restaurant doesn't promise "upscale" Italian cuisine, but rather honest, tasty and good food. The sauce on the tortellini was a bit over-seasoned, but that only spoiled the overall impression. Nevertheless, we deducted a star here. There was also a deduction for the location of the outdoor spaces. In total we only paid just under 40 euros, which is a great price for the food and the feeling of being welcomed as a guest. The great service, the price-performance ratio and the great atmosphere should therefore justify a five star rating despite the small deductions in the categories mentioned. We really liked it, try it, you won't be disappointed. For us, Trattoria La Famiglia is a little insider tip, as we wouldn't have been able to find our way here from outside/the street side. We would definitely have missed something nice.

We went here coz its the closest restaurant, its one of those restaurants that you come in once and never come back. We had a tuna salad which is bland basically had balsamic vinegar and then things thrown tad SALAD, pasta was well cooked but the flavor is not there, pizza was nice but soo „watery“, felt like just everything was thrown together and tada! PIZZA, pizza bread was good actually. Server was really nice. Ice tea is store bought icef tea anf poor into a glass.
