The food was nothing special, but it was expensive. The salmon lasagna was sticky, relatively tasteless, and probably only sat next to a salmon for a short time. The salad was basically just sour. The best thing was the beer.

Trattoria da Giovanni is a true gem for lovers of Italian cuisine! From the very first second, you feel welcome here – the ambiance is cozy, authentic, and inviting. The food was simply fantastic! The homemade pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, the sauces full of flavor, and the pizza had that wonderfully crispy base you only find in a true Italian trattoria. The freshness of the ingredients is particularly noteworthy – you can tell the cooking here is done with love and passion. The service was equally outstanding. Friendly, attentive, and with great recommendations for wine and food. You can tell the team here puts their heart and soul into it. All in all: If you're looking for a truly Italian culinary experience, this is the place for you. I'll definitely be back!

We have been to this restaurant several times since last year and unfortunately always had mixed experiences. First the good: The food is absolutely tasty, original in its offerings from classic Italian to imaginative, the rich fish soup is the highlight for us, but the fresh salad combinations such as fennel and orange with or without pulpo carpaccio are also great, meat and fish dishes as well as pasta and pinsa leave nothing to be desired. Now unfortunately also the less good experiences: Unfortunately, the service cannot keep up with the quality of the cuisine. Confusing language problems like “cold” with “caldo” could still be interpreted as charming misunderstandings. But in our opinion, a lack of friendliness or attention and non-transparent reservation practices cannot be excused in a restaurant of this (price) level. Unfortunately, we also have to confirm the impression of two-class treatment mentioned by other guest reviews here. If we have to ask ourselves at what point we become regular guests here, and whether that perhaps only applies to our fellow countrymen, then we don't really feel welcome. It's a shame, because the kitchen deserves our 5 stars, and we would love to come more often if we could feel welcome and comfortable.

Seit letztem Jahr waren wir mehrmals in diesem Restaurant und hatten leider immer wieder gemischte Erfahrungen. Zuerst die guten: Das Essen ist absolut schmackhaft, originell im Angebot von klassisch italienisch bis einfallsreich, die reichhaltige Fischsuppe ist das Highlight für uns, aber auch die frischen Salatkombis wie Fenchel-Orange mit oder ohne Pulpo-Carpaccio sind super, Fleisch- und Fischgerichte sowie Pasta und Pinsa lassen keine Wünsche offen. Nun leider auch die weniger guten Erfahrungen: Der Service kann leider überhaupt nicht mit der Qualität der Küche mithalten. Sprachprobleme wie „kalt“ mit „caldo“ zu verwechseln, könnte man noch als charmante Missverständnisse interpretieren. Aber mangelnde Freundlichkeit oder Aufmerksamkeit und intransparente Reservierungspraxis sind aus unserer Sicht in einem Restaurant dieses (Preis-)Niveaus nicht zu entschuldigen. Den von anderen Gästebewertungen hier erwähnte Eindruck der Zweiklassenbehandlung müssen wir leider auch bestätigen. Wenn wir uns fragen müssen, ab wann man hier Stammgast ist, ob das vielleicht nur für Landsleute gilt, dann fühlen wir uns nicht wirklich willkommen. Schade, denn die Küche verdient unsere 5 Sterne, und wir würden sehr gerne häufiger kommen, wenn wir uns willkommen und wohl fühlen könnten.

I have eaten here often, I can only say, the food is great, the pizza is great. Even the pasta is Bolognese class. What I like, the service is always very friendly and attentive! Very likeable people.

Basically it doesn't need many words. We celebrated our birthday there with 10 guests and it was a really great evening. Every starter, every main course, every dessert was extremely delicious. In addition, a very friendly, competent and quick service. The quality of the food and the appealing ambience would have completely made up for a longer waiting time. But that wasn't even the case, even though everything was full except for the last place. If you are looking for such a complete package, you will find it here. An all-round great evening, always a pleasure!!!

We ended up there by chance while visiting Karlsruhe. The atmosphere is cozy. There is still plenty of room for improvement in terms of service. As guests we didn't feel like royalty. The daily menu was not pointed out (it was hanging outside), the food was served suspiciously quickly, almost at the same time as the drinks. In our opinion there was too little communication with us, 'sterile service'. Less rocket in the rocket salad would have been more. Too much green! The spaghetti all'olio con aioli was good.

An Italian restaurant located at Gartenstraße 2 with varying quality. Some days they are good enough to return, other days they’re bad enough to go somewhere else next time you crave quality Italian food. Bad attitude when you try to express your opinion, so beware about providing constructive feedback… It offers a menu focused on Italian cuisine, featuring dishes like freshly made pasta, flavor combinations, and a variety of desserts. Highlights include the Pfifferling ravioli and other dessert selections. Their tomato soup has been good before, but last time it was very sour and tasted like nothing but pasta sauce. Their risotto and pizza are nice, but other dishes such as the truffle pasta are nothing but spaghetti noodles swimming in oil with a couple of slices of black truffle, tomatoes and carrots, for some reason. Sometimes it can get very hot during winter, so make sure you wear layers you can remove to adjust your comfort accordingly. Reservations are recommended, as the restaurant has limited space and gets quite busy during dinner rush. They also offer a takeaway service. Prices fall in the mid to higher range in Karlsruhe, and the service is consistently praised for its friendliness and attentiveness. Payments are accepted with cash or card. The entrance is at the ground floor and wheel chair accessible, handicap friendly.

Relatively average trattoria with sometimes borderline prices for the quality and portion size offered. Example: Despite being a starter, the pasta with salsiccia wasn't really filling for me as an average eater; overall, the portion only contained 5-6 smaller pieces of salsiccia, which together would have been half a bratwurst. 22 euros are charged for this. The portion of another pasta dish at our table was certainly half larger, even though the dish we ordered was significantly cheaper. Doesn't fit. The steak of the person sitting next to me was not medium rare as ordered, but English, and had a thick tendon running through it, so unfortunately a lot was left behind. For 31 euros I'm used to better things. At no point did the waitress ask us whether everything was OK. Too bad. All in all, not worth repeating.

Two days ago I had the pleasure of eating here. Even without a reservation, I was offered a place. The pizza was exactly how a pizza should be. Very tasty, airy dough with a lush topping. The pomegranate aperol was heavenly, as was the tiramisu. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was on the table quickly. Everything was great!! 👍

Vanavond gaan eten in de hoop heerlijk te eten. Dit is enorm tegengevallen. Bij de antipasto kant en klare dingen en weinig (of niks) huisgemaakt. Bij de pasta voorgesneden salami en pasta zonder smaak en liefde. Zelfs geen knoflook in de saus. Ik zou dit restaurant zeker niet aanbevelen.

Wir saßen im Außenbereich, der nicht wirklich liebevoll gestaltet ist. Hier kann man mehr machen! Z.B. Stofftischdecken, damit man nicht die normalen Plastiktische sieht. Der Tisch war noch mit Essensresten vom vorherigem Gast verdreckt. Schade, daß man diesen erst reinigt, wenn die neuen Gäste am Tisch sitzen. Es dauerte etwas, bis wir bestellen konnten. Die Bedienung war höflich, aber nicht außerordentlich. Das Essen, welches hier so gehypt wird, war meiner Meinung nach zwar völlig in Ordnung, aber so bekommt man es bei vielen weiteren Italienern. Die Preise sind recht hoch. 16€ für eine Pizza, welche jetzt nicht außerordentlich belegt ist, finde ich schon heftig. Kurzum: man kann hier ruhig hingehen, darf aufgrund dieser hier ach so guten Bewertungen jedoch nicht zuviel erwarten. Zumindest dann nicht, wenn man viel in Restaurant unterwegs ist und Vergleiche ziehen kann. Ich wurde daher eher enttäuscht.

We ate here with 5 people, 1 of whom had a serious gluten allergy. The food arrived quickly and was of very good quality. Price was great, good and generous toppings. Gluten allergies were also taken into account. The food was marked and prepared separately.

Going here was a huge mistake, especially after visiting authentic trattoria in Italy. I’m second to the comment below about porchini. Sad that I’ve read it too late. Everything is correct - no porchini at all, sand on my teeth, bad souse…. And it was not freshly made, but heated - pasta was made yesterday, not today for sure. Service was ok, except for the guy who brought us the dishes - throwing it on a table was not a nice gesture. Ps: I’m not usually leaving bad reviews, but this was s great disappointment. And yes, I was hungry. And it was very terrible meal.

Food was good, we didn't have to wait long, and the ambience was okay too. The waiter very friendly. However, when we got the bill we were quite surprised because we don't pay attention to the price when choosing our dishes and drinks. But for example for 0.2 l Primitivo €9, or a vegetarian pizza €14 with only vegetables on it, I think a Sambuca €5 is really too much. We paid €123.90 for two people. That's too much for normal Italian food.

Authentic Italia cuisine with great taste, good service and a great price-performance ratio.

I cannot confirm the other reviews. If a dish with porcini mushrooms is on the menu, porcini mushrooms should be included, or the menu should be changed or the dish deleted. Silently throwing chanterelles at the guest and saying he's too stupid to notice is very cheeky. As far as I know, a burrata should be firm on the outside and creamy, soft to almost liquid on the inside and not leathery on the outside and crumbly on the inside. Maybe the sauce should be more oily and non-binding. I found it mediocre. Together with something sandy and the presentation (heap of noodles on a plate without a clever arrangement) it was a straight 6, raised to a 5 because the taste was just ok. I ate it because I was hungry. I wasn't asked if it tasted good, just if I was finished. The service didn't do anything wrong. But since I was no longer noticed after clearing away, I paid at the cash register… I think it's a shame if you dare to serve guests such a cheat dish in canteen style while giving off the impression of fine dining

A beautiful classic. Can be reached on foot in a few minutes from the city center. Cozy Italian with fair prices. Antonella has everything under control and always has time to exchange two sentences with the guests.

Very kind and helpful service. Genuine Italian menu, with much variety. We had a wonderful evening here. My ‘dilemma’ was that I wanted gnocchi and saltimbocca at the same time, and of course Giorgios solved my problem serving the most tasty gnocchi as a ‘little’ (big) starter before the nicely served saltimbocca. My friends were all satisfied: delicious cannelloni and taglietelle al salmone. Giovanni: We will back, soon 😋

Excellent Italian cuisine in the former “Wacht am Rhein”. There is a well-stocked menu and seasonal daily specials. The price-performance ratio is fair for the good quality. The ambience is pleasant in the front and back areas, access via a few steps. Parking facilities are available in the surrounding area. The service is friendly and responds to personal requests. Toilets are very clean. I can only recommend a visit.

Ja, wir hatten alle Pizzen. Kann man machen, muss man aber nicht. Reine Einschätzung nach unserem Geschmack. In der Schule wäre es eine 3 hier eben 2 Sterne. Preislich okay.

Wir wsren mit einer großen Gruppe 30 Personen da. Das Essen hatten wir vorher ausgesucht und vorbestellt. Das hat gut funktioniert. Es war sehr lecker und trotz ausgebuchtem Lokal ein guter Service.

Lt. Wandrelief seit 2004 am Start! Küchenleistungen allesamt empfehlenswert. Das TIRAMISU sollte anstelle im Glas, besser auf einem Teller serviert werden. Leider versteckt sich der etwas introvertierte KOCH (Inhaber u. Patron) ausschliesslich in der Cucina und lässt sich bei seinen Gästen zu einem Austausch nie blicken. Dafür ist der Oberkellner (aus GREECE) sehr zugewandt. Für eine Trattoria sind die Getränkepreise am obersten Limit angesiedelt: 0,3 Ltr. Bier = 4,00 €; 0,2 Ltr. offener Wein = € 6,90; 0,75 Ltr. Mineralwasser = € 6,80!

Die Pasta war exzellent. Der Pizza Teig war nicht ganz nach unserem Geschmack. Wir mögen eher den typisch neapolitanischen Steinofen Teig. Der Service war freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Preise sind angemessen. Kurzfristige Reservierung war kein Problem, ist aber nicht selbstverständlich. Normalerweise muss man schon mit etwas Vorlauf reservieren.

Ohne Reservierung trotzdem einen Tisch möglich gemacht (mit Zeitansage "nur eine Stunde", bis der Tisch reserviert ist), super leckere Pizza Arrabiati und auch leckere Lasagne bekommen. Als Hintergrund-Musik eine Art "Best of" italienischer Klassiker (Eros, Albano, Celentano, Gianna usw). Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und empfehlen gerne weiter.

Sehr nettes Restaurant mit interessanten Gerichten. Wir hatten Gemüse in Olivenöl angebraten und Paccheri mit Wildschwein. Das Gemüse war frisch zubereitet, die Nudeln waren in einer Sauce mit Wildschwein und Pilzen. Beides schmeckte hervorragend. Die Bedienung war überaus freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir werden gerne wieder kommen.

Freitags Abends 20 Uhr: als Kurzurlauber aus Freiburg: 2 Personen Platz bekommen ohne Reservierung. Gedämpfte Atmosphäre, trotz Vollbesetzung und Gesprächigen Gästen :-). Sehr gutes Essen. Zu empfehlen.

Wir waren heute da und hatten die Pinsa mit Bresaola, Ziegenkäse und Kürbis. Danach hatten wir das Rinderrückenfilet mit Spaghetti und Gemüse. Das Gemüse war nicht ganz gelungen, der Rest zum Hineinlegen schmackhaft. Ich hatte noch die Spaghetti mit Trüffel und Parmesan. Auch sehr lecker! Die Bedienungen sind sehr freundlich und das Ambiente top! Sehr zu empfehlen! DANKE!

Essen: Sehr gute Bruschetta, feine Pasta (zB Alfredo bzw. Parpadelle mit Trüffel) und auf Wunsch bekamen wir ausserhalb der Speisekarte eine perfekte Sabayone. Service ist freundlich, unaufdringlich und dennoch aufmerksam, wir bekamen ein zweites Glas sogar zum Teilen eines 0,2L Rotwein ( feiner Primitivo). Persönliches Ambiente, gleichzeitig weiträumig und belebt. So macht ein Abend beim Italiener Freude!

Zum Abschluss einer Dienstreise eine gutes Restaurant gesucht und hier definitiv fündig geworden! Spontane Reservierung war möglich. Das Essen war wirklich super, hatte die Empfehlung des Hauses mit Nudeln, Wildschweinstreifen und einer sehr sehr leckeren Soße. Der Service war auch sehr zuvorkommend und alles hat super gepasst. Beim nächsten Aufenthalt in Karlsruhe schaue ich definitiv wieder vorbei.

Wir waren für ein Wochenende in Karlsruhe zum Urlaub und waren hier essen. Ich habe selten so eine leckere Pizza und Nudeln gegessen. Super lecker, frisch und gemütlich zu sitzen. Unsere 3 1/2 jährigen Tochter wurde auch total lieb umsorgt und hat richtig rein gehauen. 5 Sterne.

Sehr stilvoller Italiener!! Aber leider hat das Essen nicht überzeugt: Der Pizzateig war fad, Burrata mit Gemüse ist einfach nur gegrilltes Gemüse mit wenig (!!) Käse überbacken, aber weit entfernt von guter Burrata. Sehr schade…
