Tower One in Mainz

We felt very comfortable in the restaurant at Mainz-Finthen Airport: a bistro atmosphere with a beautiful view of the airport, friendly, fast service, and, in addition to the à la carte dishes, a tasty lunch menu with good value for money was available.

Since the old/new owners returned, everything has returned to its usual quality. Highly recommended.

I called Tower One at short notice (2 hours before arrival) and reserved a table for myself. The friendly phone call alone had me looking forward to it. When I arrived, I was captivated by the restaurant's location. This setting is truly special. I received a warm welcome and was addressed by name without having to say anything. The drinks and food arrived promptly. The schnitzel was freshly pounded, as I could hear, and it was the best schnitzel I've eaten in a very long time. You could hardly tell it was pork. It was incredibly tender, like a veal schnitzel, and the breading was perfect. I immediately reserved another table for Sunday because I felt absolutely at home and the atmosphere there is simply perfect. Thanks for the great first visit!

Breathtaking ambiance, especially on the roof terrace, with an open view of the airfield. The location definitely has something special, and the food doesn't disappoint either. We already knew the owners and the menu from our previous location and followed suit as guests. They also offer more unusual drinks, like the Lavender Spritz, which is definitely worth trying. We especially recommend the Stammtisch schnitzel and the minced steaks with red wine and onion sauce. Of course, as is the case everywhere these days, the price is a bit higher here, but it's definitely justified by the quality and the location. We'll definitely be back, as always.

A great restaurant with excellent views of the aircraft. The terrace is a perfect place to sit and enjoy the view. The approach was very straightforward, and the control tower was very friendly. Please note that the airport is located in Airspace C (from 3,500 ft). There is both an asphalt and a grass runway. The restaurant has a very contemporary and original design. The menu is well-organized and freshly prepared. The cake selection is also recommended. The service is attentive and friendly. Celebrations are also possible. A small, private room is available upon request. All in all, the restaurant is worth a visit, even without a plane. I'd be happy to come back!

If I could give negative stars, I would. So much potential here, but nothing is being done with it. It's entirely down to the service and the way customers are treated. You always feel like you're one guest too many. We were there last time. My feeling isn't wrong when I read more reviews. Stress is turning into unfriendly behavior. Whoever responds to the (negative) reviews isn't very open to criticism. There's nothing more to say.

The initial phone call was very pleasant, and the reservation went smoothly. With the excellent menu, it was difficult to decide. Our visit to this restaurant was, unfortunately, a complete disappointment. From the moment we entered, we felt unwelcome – the staff seemed unfriendly and stressed, with no trace of hospitality. What was particularly negative was how unfriendly the team was towards children. Our son was practically ignored, and when he sent his food back, the reaction was incomprehension rather than sympathy. The meal itself was a disaster: The schnitzel – although freshly pounded – was as tough as a rubber sole and overly salty. The children's schnitzel was so bad that our son spat it out immediately. When I tried to talk to them about it, I was literally told: "You're a guest, not a king." Instead of addressing our legitimate complaint, our table was simply cleared, and we were more or less asked to leave – behavior I've never experienced before. Added to this are the completely exorbitant prices, which are in no way justified by the quality or service. Overall, this visit was more than disappointing—lackluster service, poor food, and high prices. We definitely won't be back and strongly advise families not to eat here.

A great combination: Following a change of tenant, Tower One now offers the Djolai family's renowned, excellent cuisine 👍. Delicious food, a fantastic and exceptional location with a stunning view, and plenty of parking make Tower One one of our favorites. The modern and comfortably furnished rooms, including an outdoor terrace, are the perfect place to enjoy yourself. Whether it's for a couple, a small group in a separate adjoining room, or a larger family or corporate celebration.

Absolutely no longer recommended since the takeover

We recently spent a very relaxing evening with friends on the sunny terrace, overlooking the apron to the west. The service was, as on previous visits, very friendly, professional, and personal, and the food and drinks were excellent. We would be happy to return.

Modern, with a focus on aviation in the decor and a good view of the runway. The staff is friendly. The food is a bit of a challenge. While I didn't think it tasted bad, the salad was very tasty and really increased my anticipation. We had to wait a bit. The French fries were great, but frozen convenience foods aren't exactly appealing at those prices, even if they're well prepared. But if you "just" want a drink and are into aviation, you'll find a very pleasant place with friendly, attentive staff.

We celebrated my 70th birthday at the Tower with 30 friends and relatives. Everyone, without exception, was absolutely thrilled with the service, the ambiance, and the food. The menu was fantastic, and even our littlest ones were served excellently with schnitzel and fries. And yes... our grandchildren were allowed to spend a few "trial minutes" in the kitchen. Wow, Grandpa, that was exciting. So, dear readers: "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

The food was delicious, lovingly prepared, and there weren't long waits. A small, fine menu with plenty of choice, and reasonable prices. A separate refrigerator with a selection of delicious cakes also tempts you to enjoy dessert. The restaurant: clean, modern, and lovingly decorated. A small drawback: the restrooms are one floor below. The outdoor terrace is, of course, unbeatable. Sun and shaded spots, something for everyone. Views over the airfield with minimal noise. You feel at home here; we'd love to come back!

The manager and the entire team are extremely warm, attentive, and courteous. It's often the small gestures that make the difference: As a cigar smoker, I was brought an ashtray without asking – that's hospitality in action! The service is fast, friendly, and professional – you simply feel welcome. Whether for a quick coffee between flights or a relaxed meal overlooking the airfield, "Tower One" is always a good choice. A clear recommendation for anyone who appreciates good food, a great view, and attentive service!

We were in Tower One on Easter Sunday and were very positively impressed. We ate some of the cakes we actually made ourselves; they were a dream! This is an insider tip!

We have been trying to visit Tower One since Covid, today we managed it. And it was a very positive experience. We had the asparagus menu, once with ham and once with schnitzel. Both were excellently prepared and very tasty. The service was also courteous, subtle and unobtrusive. Everything you would expect in a very good restaurant. Certainly a jewel yet to be discovered in the Mainz restaurant landscape. T&T

Tried it out spontaneously on Saturday evening after changing operator and was totally thrilled! We were greeted very courteously and served quickly. The food was hot, the meat was cooked to perfection, the salad was fresh and crunchy, the portions were generous and there was a menu to suit everyone's taste. The atmosphere is very cozy and the view of the runway is like a vacation for us every time. We would love to come back!

Aufgrund der geographischen Lage, gibt es in Mainz nicht viele Lokale, von denen aus man den Sonnenuntergang schön beobachten kann. Der Service ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend, schöner Blick auf Flugfeld, perfekt für ein Drink auf der westseitigen Terrasse. Keine Haute Cuisine, aber kleine solide Karte zu fairen Preisen. Our visit to the tower in Mainz-Finthen today was a complete success. Even though we stopped by spontaneously, we got a table without any problems. The coffee was excellent and rounded off our stay perfectly. Particularly noteworthy is the friendly and attentive staff. We immediately felt welcome and also had a very nice conversation with the boss - a nice, personal touch that made the visit even more pleasant. The tower has been one of my favorite places in the past, especially because of the great view of the planes taking off and landing. The terrace invites you to linger there longer and enjoy the special atmosphere. This definitely wasn’t our last visit – we’d love to come back!

My husband and I visited the restaurant this afternoon. After being assigned a table and declining the lunch menu because we wanted coffee and cake, the waitress had the nerve to tell us that the tables were reserved for people who wanted a "real" lunch. Unfortunately, we are very disappointed, so we won't be visiting this restaurant again. It's a shame to treat club visitors like this. We still got the coffee ;)

We have been coming to Silke and Zoltan for years and cannot understand how anyone can leave negative reviews here. The cuisine is first-class with portions to fill your appetite, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is modern yet cozy. The processes are well structured, so there have never been long waiting times. The hosts also take time for a personal conversation. We always enjoy coming back and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Edit: Food is still delicious, the younger people are super nice and accommodating, but if the older lady is present (I suspect it's the boss herself) you have 2 options: for the wonderful view of the planes and the good food, accept the incredibly rude manner or just go straight to one of the benches that are also available at the airport and eat the bread you brought with you. Everyone has to decide for themselves! We ate there at the beginning of January under the new owner, the schnitzel is a dream, 100% better than before, so a visit is even more worth it! The staff is also super friendly and attentive! My only wish: that the now somewhat run-down interior would be improved a bit, that would be great! But that's really complaining at a high level!

We visited this restaurant for the first time tonight. Very nice and modern decor. Great terrace overlooking Finther Airfield and its flight operations. Very friendly staff. The owner personally came to our table and recommended dishes that were freshly prepared daily and not on the menu. The dishes were not run-of-the-mill, but professionally prepared and tasted excellent. Very large selection of cakes and pastries. We'll definitely be back.

I visited today the restaurant. The gentleman who served us was very polite and professional. The woman (I think the owner) who we had to pay to was extremely unfriendly because we used the table near us to put some of our pilot gear on. Never seen such a unpolite person . Location and food was very good. Thanks to the gentlemen we had a good time. Never again. Ps. It’s highly unprofessional to see how the reactions are from the owner to past visitors.

We actually always liked coming here (now there has apparently been a change of tenant) - the restaurant is in a great location with a sun terrace and a view of the planes taking off and landing. Of course it is very busy on a sunny day like yesterday. When we arrived by bike with our little son, we discovered that there was now self-service - absolutely understandable and no problem. But: we were happy because, despite the terrace being full, there was a free table in the corner with 2 chairs (free choice of seating) We were happy and took a seat and our son was looking forward to his scoop of ice cream. There was a cordoned-off terrace area and my husband kindly asked the restaurateur if we could take a third chair from there for the free table, since all the others were occupied - this was taciturnly denied in an impossibly harsh way, turned away and moved on to the next matter. It's a shame that people here don't seem to be solution-oriented and don't treat guests very politely. Absolutely understandable if there had been no space - full is full. But that wasn't friendly behavior. It's a shame we won't be back after a bike tour.

We have now been to "Tower One in Mz. - Finthen-Layenenhof" several times. are a group of five to eight people. on March 7th, 2025, were there for lunch. friendly and competent service. pleasant atmosphere. the food, both the lunch menu and the menu items. really good and very tasty. lunch, afternoon and evening, highly recommended. In 2023/2024 I stayed at Tower One several times and was extremely satisfied with the service, food and ambience (very pleasant, appropriate selection of music for chilling out). The restaurant is now under new management. The impressions of my first visit in 2025 (March) were not yet sufficient for a real evaluation, as operations were on a low budget that day due to a lack of staff. The boss made every effort to make you feel comfortable in the dining room and the dish with venison sausages was delicious. I hope to go there in the future with the same feeling when the season has started, everything is running smoothly and there is a pleasant chill atmosphere on the terrace as at the previous ones. This would be a great wish for this restaurant.

We have just returned from Tower One in Finthen with our children. Sunset with a cold bowl of hops on the terrace, there's nothing to complain about anyway. Then move inside, nice, attentive service, nice menu, everyone will find something there. Fitness plate, salad with rump steak, sounds good. I'm careful, I start with minced steak in pinot noir sauce... ...and I'm not disappointed! Delicious fries, good meatloaf, and the sauce tastes good for a long time - a poem! It was our first time there, but we'll be back! And then I try the rump steak... I'm already looking forward to it!

We were there during our lunch break today. We were suggested a nice spot by the window. The menu also included a recommendation for the dish of the day. We both had a steak. Once with salad, which looked and tasted very fresh, and once with grilled vegetables and fried potatoes. We were asked about the doneness of the steak and it was cooked perfectly. The taste of the steak was also very good. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. The new tenants have enormously increased the quality of the food and the standard of the restaurant. We will definitely go there regularly in the future. Thank you for a nice lunch break.

Had dinner in Tower One today for the second time in 2025. Unfortunately a maximum disappointment. We had the red Thai curry with chicken and shrimp three times. We missed coconut milk, red chili paste and especially vegetables - general taste. What was served wasn't what was on the menu. “Vegan” chickpea curry was served. One dish was taken off the bill. Price-performance doesn't match in any way. Out of 5, one was satisfied, the child with the schnitzel and French fries dish. The red Thai curry we ordered three times didn't taste good to anyone, and as I said, it wasn't. The meatloaf was ok
