Delicious, friendly, authentic staff. The selection was limited but the food was delicious. 👍🏽

Very fine traditional dishes and courteous service. In my opinion, the best Japanese restaurant in Leipzig.

Only 5 dishes but all amazing, especially Ramen. Small place, very friedly service.

As an old customer of this restaurant, I must say I am quite disappointed with my recent visit in this restaurant. The first 3 photos were token 4 years ago, and the last photo is taken recently. I must say, in the past I was willing to pay a relative high price because of the good quality of food. But now, the quality has dropped a lot, and so it doesn't match the price anymore. The karaage set comes with a very small portion of rice. The karaage is very salty, so adding one extra small bowl costs 3.5€ . And the ramen only has one chasiu, one egg and some corns... It's not the tokyo cafe I knew anymore :( Maybe the boss has changed (?) so the restaurant's name changed (?) I used to have a very good impression of the previous japanese waitress, very polite and elegant. But today seems everything changed. So the good memory stayed in the past.

Authentic Japanese restaurant, delicious food and really nice venue! I was here with my girlfriend during a holiday in Leipzig and I would definitely go back if there was the opportunity. We ate some Gyoza accompanied by homemade mayonnaise, after which we had two bowls of Ramen and some Dango as dessert: everything was EXQUISITE.

Curious about the new Etsumi, we had lunch here at the weekend. Not a good idea. The interior is now bare and inhospitable. At lunchtime on the weekend there is only “brunch”, which means that there are 3 (!) expensive small dishes and a daily special, i.e. 4, to choose from. My companion opted for a green tea (average quality, mini pot, €5.50), I tried the daily special. For €13.90 I got a small bowl of pasta with vegetables and a touch of bonito flakes on top. It tasted good, but you can get this quality in any Asian snack bar for half the money. What was “authentically” Japanese about it? Open question. We then cooked properly again at home. If you visit small Japanese restaurants in West German cities such as Cologne, Frankfurt, etc., you will receive more competent advice and be provided with much better food, and at much more moderate prices than in Leipzig. Why is that so? Also an open question. We wish every Japanese restaurant in Leipzig all the best, but you should start off right and not at this level. Who knows how many guests who experience something like that will come back again. In any case, the prices and what you get for them are outrageous.

We spontaneously went to Etsumi in the evening and it was definitely worth it. The food is delicious, the conditions were friendly and the atmosphere was also very cozy. We'd love to come back! 😊

The cutest atmosphere and the friendliest staff. The food is amazing, so tasty and interesting Japanese fare. In summer the outdoor seating is super fun on the all pedestrian street.

While I was studying abroad, I was missing Japanese food and just happened to find this restaurant and stopped by. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very warm, and the tables are made of squares filled with rice! ! ! The staff was very polite and took great care of my allergies! And above all, the quality of the food is high. It was of the same level as what you would normally find at a Japanese restaurant, but even better. For example, the miso soup was not the miso soup without dashi that is common at Japanese restaurants overseas, but the miso soup with a strong but gentle dashi that you would expect to find at a high-end restaurant. The owner was a woman and was very friendly and easy to talk to. Apparently there are a lot of regulars, which makes sense. You should definitely go here when you come to Leipzig!

Only the barbecued pork is delicious, the others are very ordinary and not worth the price

Eating like in Japan: authentic cuisine, super tasty, warm service. This little pearl is run with a lot of love by a Japanese woman. In addition to gyoza, ramen and matcha mochi ice cream, there are cute little things from Japan that are not edible, such as key chains or erasers in funny shapes. Starter, main course and dessert for under 30 euros. Japan is more than sushi and rarely so close.

Really delicious Japanese cuisine, a warm welcome... we wouldn't want to miss a visit to the Tokyo Café during any stay in Leipzig!

I can't recommend this store at all! This store is a scam! First of all, I made a reservation on the official website of this store today at noon from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. I preset that I can eat at this restaurant until 8 p.m. However, while I was eating, the owner of this restaurant kept looking at me and reminding me that I only had one hour to eat, meaning I had to leave the restaurant at 7:00 p.m.! I answered “yes” out of politeness! But things didn't end that way. As I ate dessert, the next wave of customers sat right next to me, staring at me and waiting for me to eat! That doesn't make me want to eat at all! I started wondering why I came to this store! And after I just finished dessert, the boss immediately very unreasonably took away my plate and held a cash register machine to ask me to pay immediately! That makes me insulted! Secondly, the price. The yuzu soda tastes really boring for me! The 25Euro Karaage package is a very good offer! 4 pieces of karaage, 4 cucumber slices, a small bowl of soup, a small bowl of rice... I definitely won't visit this shop again! NEVER AGAIN!

Wonderful! I lived in Japan for a while and always miss *real* Japanese food in Germany. In Tokyo Cafe it tastes like Japan. And everything else is right too: the friendly service, the atmosphere, everything is very Japanese - and at the same time it fits perfectly into the neighborhood.

Cozy little shop. Food was very tasty. Somehow kept loose and relaxed. Felt very authentic. Had ramen once and the winter special (bowl with rice). Then a little whiskey. Were sitting at the bar by the window. Very small menu. Not so many options. I think something like that is great. Nice chilled evening.

The food was really like what I know from Japan, everything was very tasty and in enough quantity to fill you up. The price is a little higher, but it is reasonable for the quality and authenticity. Taka's service was excellent and the highlight of our visit. She always took the time to chat with us and created a very pleasant, friendly and homely atmosphere. The atmosphere in the Tokyo Cafe is also very nicely decorated with various cute little things for sale. The only suggestion for improvement in the future would be to expand the fixed menu a little with other Japanese comfort food, such as gyu/katsu/oyakodon, tonkatsu or sukiyaki We will definitely come back and recommend it to anyone who wants to experience really good Japanese food and exceptional hospitality.

The best Japanese restaurant in Leipzig and Saxony! Most authentic ramen I've eaten in Saxony so far. So far all the dishes we have tried have been delicious.

We were there for lunch. Extraordinary food and such a friendly service. Our dogs liked it too :) We really enjoyed the japanese food and will come back!

We had the dumplings as starter and the miso ramen with egg. Everything was very delicious and well prepared. Service was also pretty good and the owner is such friendly and nice! I will be back more times :)

Bereits beim Betreten des Tokyo Cafe fühlte ich mich in die Herzlichkeit und Gastfreundschaft Japans versetzt. Die Bedienung war überaus zuvorkommend und liebenswürdig, was mein kulinarisches Erlebnis umso angenehmer machte. Die Atmosphäre im Restaurant erinnerte mich stark an unsere Reise nach Japan vor drei Wochen, was das Tokyo Cafe zu einem echten Highlight machte. Die Auswahl an kleinen, japanischen Souvenirs im Laden war ebenfalls charmant. Insgesamt war mein Besuch gemütlich und definitiv sein Geld wert. Ein Ort, den ich jedem Japan-Liebhaber wärmstens empfehlen kann!

Erst mal das positive: das Ambiente ist herzallerliebst. Das Personal auch. Aber dafür dass es authentisch japanisch sein sollte fanden wir es alle ein bisschen enttäuschend. Es gibt 2 Ramen Sorten und die sind erst mal recht solide. Die Nudeln selbst sind jetzt nicht der Reißer aber enttäuscht waren wir vom Chashu und Ei. Das Ei war seeehr geschmacksintensiv und fast ein bisschen zu sehr. Dahingegen war das Chashu kein Chashu sondern einfach sehr gewürzarmer aber dafür zarter Schweinebraten. Kein Schweinebauch, obwohl es so in der Beschreibung auch noch mal drin steht. Und das Essen kam an unserem 6er Tisch mit einem Abstand von 20 min. Es wirkt als ob sie erst vor kurzem eröffnet hätten und die Abläufe noch nicht so richtig hinhauen.

Einfach und super. Freundlicher Service 👍. Essen sehr gut 👍. Das wird nicht unser letzter Besuch gewesen sein.

Wer die japanische Küche liebt oder wissen will wie japanisches Essen wirklich schmeckt, kommt am Tokyo Cafe nicht vorbei. Man kann derzeit bestellen und vor Ort abholen.

Super leckeres Essen und sehr netter Service! Das Tokyo Café ist ein Geheimtipp! Wir waren dort zum Abendessen und haben ein Teishoku-Set mit Lachsfilet und ein Ramen-Dinner-Set mit geschmortem Schweinebauch gegessen und beides war hervorragend! Auch gibt es leckere japanische Nachspeisen wie z.B. Mochi-Bällchen oder Taiyaki. Und neben den gängigen Getränken kann man auch japanische Spezialitäten wie z.B. die japanische Kinderlimonade probieren, deren Öffnen bei allen Gästen für sehr viel Spaß sorgte. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. Das Tokyo Café ist eine absolute Empfehlung!

Yesterday, a friend and I went to have Dinner at Tokyo Cafe. We were seated inside and asked to switch to an outside table, assoon other guests would leave. As this was not the case, the owner herself took an extra table outside for us so we cold enjoy the warm summer night. Both the owner and her staff treated us in the kindest, loving way and the food was great, too! We had the Ramen Dinner Set and Mochi Ice as Dessert, which I both reccomend 100% :) Thank you for the lovely evening, see you soon xx

Tolles Restaurant mit authentischer japanischer Küche. Kleine Karte, alles frisch gekocht! Super nette Bedienung + awesome Biergarten! Ich kannte außer den Klassikern wie Sushi oder Ramen nichts aus der japanischen Küche und wurde hier echt überrascht. Die Aubergine ist Weltklasse! Geht hin, das lohnt sich. A+++++

Extrem gutes Essen, nicht nur hervorragend in der Zubereitung sondern hier wird auch schon bei der Auswahl der einzelnen Zutaten auf Qualität geachtet - was sich dann halt doppelt im Geschmack niederschlägt. Mehr Klasse statt Masse also eher zum Genießen. Als "großer hungriger Mann" wäre es nichts für mich - aber als Familienabend bei dem die Portionsgröße die Qualität des Essens wiederspiegelt absolut empfehlenswert.

Fantastisk restaurant. Maden var autentisk japansk og meget velsmagende. Spisekortet er ikke så omfattende med det, der er, er godt. Rigtig god og venlig betjening. Bordbestilling kan anbefales. Kommer gerne igen.

Das Lokal ist winzig und einzigartig eingerichtet, uns hat es gut gefallen. Der Service war gut, auch wenn durch viele Gäste die Wartezeiten recht lang waren. Wir hatten Misoramen und der war lecker und authentisch, allerdings auch nichts Besonderes. Man bekommt in Leipzig in einigen Läden Ramen auf ähnlichem oder sogar etwas höheren Level. Wäre an sich alles nicht schlimm, wenn man nicht locker das anderthalbfache von den normalen Preisen zahlen würde. Wenn Geld keine Rolle spielt macht man hier sicher nichts falsch, aber das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis hinkt leider etwas. Ansonsten verkaufen sie noch einiges an japanischem Süßkram und sowas, das man allerdings in guten Asialäden ebenfalls günstiger bekommt. Alles in allem haben wir zwar ganz gut gegessen, aber wiederkommen werden wir nicht.

Authentische japanische Speisen (kein Sushi) bei, wie mittlerweile überall, gehobenen Preisen. Das Ladenlokal ist relativ klein und eine Reservierung ist in den kalten Monaten zu empfehlen. Sakeliebhaber sollten unbedingt nach der aktuellen Empfehlung fragen.

Schöne Einrichtung und freundliche Bedienung, leider entsprechen die Preise nicht der Leistung. Das Essen würde in Japan wahrscheinlich nicht lange gegen die starke Konkurrenz bestehen. Dafür wird ganz schön zugelangt. Ich werde wegen der hohen Preise nicht nochmal hingehen.

I actually don’t understand the glowing reviews. We had the miso ramen with egg and chashu. The broth was quite light and had limited flavor. The noodle was not cooked enough. The egg was cold in the yolk. The chashu was lean, but the charred part was flavorful. The price was high at 16.50 euro for the dish. It does not compare to ramen from Tokyo.

Das Tokyo Cafe ist ein hübsches kleines Lokal mit authentischer japanischer Küche. Das Personal ist ausgesprochen höflich. Wir waren schon öfter hier und empfehlen es auch unseren Freunden. Jedes Gericht ist ausgesprochen lecker! Reservierung dringend empfohlen.

Sehr schönes, gemütliches Restaurant. Beide Male, die ich bis jetzt dort war, habe ich am Fenster (mit den niedlichen Spielfiguren) gesessen. Neben dem leckeren japanischen Essen kann man auch allerlei andere Dinge aus Japan erwerben. Die Portionen haben genau die richtige Größe, dass man sich mal durchprobieren kann, um vieles zu kosten und trotzdem satt wird. Die Reservierung funktioniert super schnell und einfach online. Gerne komme ich wieder für einen Ausflug in die japanische Küche nach Leipzig.

쇼유라멘: 짜지 않고 담백해요, 챠슈도 지방이 거의 없도 단백합니다. 카츠돈+샐러드: 돈까스가 부드럽고 단백해요, 샐러드는 아삭하면서 새콤달콤한 느낌 일본에 있는것 같은 인테리어와 실제 사장님과 서버가 일본인이네요 채식주의자들이 좋아할만한 음식과 메뉴입니다. 서비스 좋고 예약 시스템도 잘 되어있어 좋았습니다. 단지 아쉬운 점은 가격이에요. 좀 비싼것 같아요. (음식 두개, 물병, 기린맥주 큰것 해서 거의 60유로)

Lohnt sich für Vegetarier nicht wirklich. Dafür ist es sehr teuer. Wir haben frittiertes Gemüse für 22 Euro gegessen. Das tat schon ein bisschen weh. Das reißen dann die absolut bombastische Sojasoße und die super nette Bedienung nicht raus. Fazit: sehr authentisch, lecker, aber Preis-Leistung stimmt nicht.

Ich habe Miso-ramen Mt kirin Bier und dassai gehabt. Das Essen war Mega lecker! Das Dassai war auch super gut, hab gleich neh Flasche davon mitgenommen. Wenn ich in Leipzig wieder bin komme ich auf jeden Fall nochmal.

Wow……so surprised to find a little piece of Tokyo in Leipzig. This is a small restaurant with a simple but pleasing decor. The menu is also quite small but this means they can concentrate on what they do well. The aubergine starter was an amazing combination of Aubergine glazed with a sweet miso sauce and tasted wonderful. The pork gyoza had a real depth of flavour. My karage chicken was crisp on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside…..just the way it should. The pork katsu don was a generouse portion with tender pork fillet. The staff were very friendly and it was nice to exchange a few Japanese phrases with them. Great food, great service, friendly staff……what more coukd you want.

Finally an authentic Japanese restaurant in Leipzig! Amazing atmosphere, warm-hearted owner and service and food of course! I had the fried chicken with spicy sause. Highly recommended!
