To1980 - Vietnamese Street Food in Düsseldorf

I've been there several times with friends and I'm absolutely thrilled. The ambiance is beautiful and tastefully decorated – including the outdoor area – very nice and cozy in warm weather. Very friendly and extremely customer-oriented service, and the food is simply delicious. Even when the restaurant is full, you get your food quickly. We've eaten our way through the menu, and there hasn't been anything yet that doesn't deserve 5 stars. A very good selection of starters, which I personally really like! The price-performance ratio is absolutely right for me. I was just in Vietnam for four weeks – the food at To1980 is very authentic. I will definitely come back again and again. The only downside is that I can't eat there every day, unfortunately, due to time constraints. ;))!

We ate here today. The food was delicious, and the cocktails were also excellent. The food arrived quickly. The service, however, was the absolute highlight. The manager was one of the sweetest and friendliest servers I've ever met. He was simply amazing. Even when we were annoying and couldn't decide, he gave us excellent advice. He definitely deserves a raise.

Delicious traditional Vietnamese cuisine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about allergens. Those who need to eat gluten-free for their health can eat here with peace of mind. The fried spring rolls with rice paper are truly worth coming back for.

This was, without a doubt, the most delicious thing we've ever eaten in our lives. Even months later, we dream every day of traveling back to Düsseldorf just for this restaurant. Plus, the incredibly reasonable prices and incredibly fast preparation (can they do magic?). Five stars are far too low.

Delicious Vietnamese soup, nice staff

An unexpectedly pleasant and relaxed place. What might at first glance appear to be a snack bar from the outside and surroundings turns out to be a very nice restaurant. We were there early on a Thursday evening, and although a main road runs right outside, it didn't spoil the ambiance. The food was excellent, and the waitress was quick but not intrusive.

Indifferent service at its best. Waitress insisted that we order drinks before anything else like it's mandatory and kept walking away from us during the order to do other things. Pho was nice and gentle, Gyoza was obviously bought in frozen, oddly hard at the edges and with barely any flavor. Overall bland and forgettable.

The service and food were extremely fast. The restaurant seemed popular; we were able to get a table for two without a reservation, but even at 5:45 p.m., the restaurant was almost full. The dishes were very tasty and plentiful!

My favorite Thai restaurant. It's a shame I can only come once or twice a year! Whenever I come to Düsseldorf, I have to come because the dishes are delicious, the drinks are great, and they're plentiful! And the place is really cool.

The food is definitely worth the price, both in terms of quality and portion size. The staff is super friendly, and the atmosphere is great too 👍 It can feel a bit cramped and noisy at times, but other than that, it's definitely worth recommending!

SIMPLY DELICIOUS. At first I thought, "Mmm, I'm sure I won't be full," but I'm bursting. My highlight, however, is the pickled garlic. I would come back and order numbers 7, 8, 16, and 43 again. Yummy

To1980 is a cozy Vietnamese restaurant offering traditional dishes with rich flavors. I tried the PHỞ SỐT VANG and PHỞ NAM ĐỊNH—both with ribbon noodles, but the first one stood out with bold spices and tender beef. The cold summer tea made with lychees was super refreshing. Staff were friendly, service was quick, and menus are in both German and English. Definitely worth a visit for authentic taste!

This was my second time at this Vietnamese restaurant, and it was simply fantastic! The food was delicious and authentic, and the service was exceptionally friendly. You feel truly welcome here. I'll definitely be back!

I had mango curry with crispy duck, and it was really delicious, refreshing, and crispy. The passion fruit drink was perfect for a hot day. I also had edamame for starters, which was perfect. I highly recommend eating here!

Business lunch on May 16, 2025 We visited the restaurant late Friday evening; a reservation wasn't necessary that evening, as there were plenty of seats. The ambiance is very authentic and, with its Vietnamese style, invites you to relax. The service was very friendly, but the wait was nevertheless extraordinarily long, and unfortunately, even in the meantime, they didn't ask if there were any special requests. The menu was compact but still offered a wide selection. I particularly liked the large selection of fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes; there's something for all tastes. The drinks selection is very good, and there are also many non-alcoholic alternatives and cocktails. The food was of good quality; both the starter and dessert were very lightly spiced and a bit bland for my personal taste; the red curry in particular didn't really meet my expectations. The language on the plates was unspectacular. Overall, in my experience, it doesn't quite compare to authentic Asian street food and is very much geared towards the "German" guest. Nevertheless, we had a lovely and delicious evening at To1980. Thank you very much for that.

The banh mi was delicious and I definitely recommend it! The service was quick and friendly.

Service was friendly but unfortunately not very attentive. We had to constantly call the two young ladies to our table when we wanted to reorder, and they only cleared the table and asked when we wanted to pay. Unfortunately, the Bun Bo Hue didn't taste anything like it. It was more like Bun Rieu. Unfortunately, the Chanh Da was also very bland. Everything else was fine, but there are definitely better Vietnamese restaurants in Düsseldorf.

The house drinks are particularly recommended.

I visited this restaurant for lunch on a weekday. There were hardly any other customers at that time, so I benefited from particularly fast service. The food was definitely impressive, the staff were very friendly, and—surprisingly—they came with two small spring rolls to start the meal. All in all, I highly recommend it!

Delicious food, quite a large selection, but a bit too expensive for me given the rather simple atmosphere. Sure, it's called street food, but in my opinion, the prices don't really match that. It's generally on the pricier side, even for vegan dishes with tofu, as well as for the appetizers. The service was friendly and attentive, but unfortunately, not all credit cards accepted.

We have eaten here twice. Both times the food was good. Only was the last time we found some dirt in the Banh Mi because the coriander’s root was still on and have some dirt stuck on it. I bit into the dirt unfortunately and felt a little gross… However, every one makes mistake sometimes and we don’t want to make a fuss out of it! The staff also offered us a free drink or dessert to compensate and apologize to us so it is all good.

Not sure in the beginning... but when the dine come, the Phoa taste was fantantic... not different with ones in Asia

We were here with a group, and everyone was very happy with the food. The lemonade could have been more intense. The reason for the 4 stars is that we felt like they were trying to get rid of us quickly after the meal, which was a shame.

I ordered the peanut curry, summer rolls, and sticky rice to take home. The whole thing cost around €40 (!), and the portion sizes are absolutely outrageous! Small, smaller, To1980!! A normal man would never have been able to fill it up. A whopping four tablespoons of brown rice, two lettuce leaves, and a ridiculously small amount of vegetables in the peanut sauce. I ordered it with "crispy" tofu, which is only fried on the top and bottom, otherwise mushy, when you can make so many great things with tofu, I can't believe it. Everything tastes delicious, but the summer rolls are smaller than in a restaurant, and the sticky rice comes with a piece of orange instead of a piece of mango??? You don't have to understand. They cut corners on the food as much as possible, but the price is decent. Never again, and I feel really dumbed down. That's how you lose customers. 👎

Great and tasty food, a proper Vietnamese restaurant. However, the service was a little bit off and the prices are expensive for the quantity. Still a good place to go tho, I recommend it.

Unfortunately, disappointing. The restaurant disappointed us on several levels. Only when our food was served were we informed that the restaurant would close at 10 p.m., and the kitchen and bar would be closed in 10 minutes, meaning we'd have to order now if we needed anything else. Having to decide while eating whether you might get thirsty later is simply unprofessional. Also during our meal, we were asked to pay because "the bill is being collected now." After we pointed out that this was rude and disruptive during a meal, the waiter (who, incidentally, was very helpful and friendly) promised to come back after the meal. After that, however, everything was handled rather hastily. The lights outside had already been turned off, even though guests were still seated, and drinks couldn't be finished in peace. The food itself was also unconvincing: bland in taste, overcooked noodles, fried chicken that resembled frozen chicken nuggets, and the spring rolls served with a sweet chili sauce that looked like something you'd find in a supermarket. Unfortunately, it wasn't authentic Vietnamese. It was significantly overpriced for the quality of the food and the overall ambiance.

The food was great! The service was good too. The store is right near the main fire, the store is big, lots of seats, nice decoration, and toilets. The only downside is probably that the chairs don't have backrests which is not very comfortable

Good place to eat a lot of different vietnamese dishes with multiple options for a lot of them. Mine had a serving a bit to sweet but the peanuts and lemony sauce was really good. (Number 20 option chicken)

Miss Vietnamese food, so To1980 is one of restaurant near our hotel I wanna try. This restaurant is very crowded, mostly Western people here, feel happy because Vietnam food is also popular in here. I tried Phở, I don’t know the taste in Düsseldorf but with Vietnamese, this taste is not familiar with Vietnamese both in the South and the North. The taste is light, can’t smell the characteristic of Phở, taste follow a bit from the North flavor. But is it fine with me after a tired day, I need a hot soup. Phở is promptly served when order. The bowl of Pho is bigger than VN but I can afford this. I wanna try more food but no space after finish a bowl of Pho

The food there was not good. Didnt taste like vietnamese food.

We got a table after a few minutes of waiting. We had to wait a little longer for the food, but that's understandable given the busy restaurant. My point of criticism is definitely the size of the portion. Declaring the bao burgers with sweet potatoes as the main prize surprised me a bit after receiving the portion. A counted portion of fries with a small Bao Burger. The food tasted good. When I asked, I was told that this was the normal portion size. I would have liked at least the note on the menu to say “small portion of fries” or a fairer price/performance ratio. In my opinion that didn't fit. The price-performance ratio for the gyozas was also not good at all. In addition, the staff seemed cold and distant, especially when we were brought the wrong food. Because we didn't immediately know the name of our dish, the mistake seemed to be ours. The waitress turned around without a word and only brought the right dish after a few minutes - also without comment.

We ate there today and were immediately greeted warmly. The decor was traditional and cozy – just like the food. I was in Vietnam in 2022, and the dishes here transported me right back there. The banh mi baguettes were particularly authentic! But the bun bo hue noodle soup, pho bo with meatballs, and the fish stir-fry with vegetables were also excellent. The spices and herbs were perfectly balanced and not adapted to European tastes – just like in Vietnam. They also served delicious homemade lemonades that were refreshing but not overly sweet. The service was consistently attentive and warm. I will definitely be back!

We were there today with the family and were initially greeted very quickly and friendly. The decor was very traditional and authentic, as was the food. We were in Vietnam in 2022 and the dishes here were just as authentic and delicious. We had the Bun Bo Hue Noodle Soup, Pho Bo with Meatballs, The Stir Fry with Fish and Vegetables and the Banh Mi Baguette Classic with Pork and Chicken. The Banh Mi Baguettes in particular teleported us back to Vietnam. The herbs and spices were very well balanced and not “Europeanized”. The house-made lemonade was super tasty and refreshing and not too sweet. Overall, the staff were very attentive and courteous. We'd love to come back :)

Regarding the food I got nothing to criticize but in one starter was a hair. Furthermore at some point the musics bass was a bit to loud. The rest was perfect, thank you and see you soon!

We'd love to come back! I was at To1980 with another person on a Friday around 7:30 p.m. and at the beginning we were very happy that the restaurant and the outdoor area were well filled, but we still found a place for the two of us. In general, it should be praised that there are many tables where you can sit and eat. We were very impressed with the starter plate and the Bao Bun Burger. We can recommend the drink with passion fruit. Super delicious! All the waitresses were super friendly and accommodating and the food was served quickly. We are already looking forward to the next time!

Wow! We've really never experienced anything like this! ✅ Outrageous service ✅ Child-unfriendly ✅ Dry & tasteless We came around lunchtime because of the good reviews. We sat down at a table next to a full wine rack. The waiter came and said: “Haha right by the wine rack, it’s Saturday so you drink during the day, the Germans just have a drinking culture anyway!” We smiled and were a bit irritated. First we ordered summer rolls and two juice spritzers. We were visibly stressed because we weren't offered a high chair and our 2-year-old son could of course only sit on our lap. The summer rolls were the worst we've ever had! A few rice noodles, lolorosso salad, mint and then the crowning glory: chicken breast slices from the package! The bone-dry summer rolls were then cut open and standing in the sauce so you had to eat them with cutlery and everything fell apart. Due to the outrageous service, we told the waiter that we would no longer order a main course with our son, as there apparently was no high chair for a relaxed meal here. The waiter's comment: "Aha hahah, all right, I'll remember when I have 5 children that I can only eat starters and then leave." Unbelievable... how rude you can be towards your guests with such quality food... ABSOLUTELY NO RECOMMENDATION! Neither in terms of taste nor in terms of ambience.

A nice restaurant with terrible food - a disgrace to call it Vietnamese food when the food resembles no original taste. We ordered 4-5 dishes and they tasted badly the same. It’s unarguably not fusion of, so just bad cook in general. Staff is slow and inattentive even the restaurant was not half full.

2-Star Review: Café 1980, Düsseldorf Café 1980 was a letdown. The tofu in the Buddha bowl was all over the place—too firm in some bites, too soft in others—and the sauce was nothing more than a generic, overly sweet sticky soy sauce. The veggies? Just two lettuce leaves. While technically edible, we couldn’t even bring ourselves to finish it. For a place with so much hype, the food lacked authenticity and creativity. It felt like another uninspired Vietnamese fusion spot in Germany, but without the bold, delicious flavors that make Vietnamese food special. The service was poor, and while the shop was packed, I can only assume it was an off night—or maybe just not for us. Eating here felt like how the interned Japanese must have felt at Manzanar—given just enough food to call it a meal but without any real care or thought put into it. The experience reminded me of descriptions of meals there, like Dole fruit syrup poured over rice as a “treat.” I’ll give them two stars for offering vegan and vegetarian options, but €65 for three appetizers and two entrées was way too steep for the quality. To top it off, the waiter hinting at a bigger tip—seemingly just because we’re American—wasn’t a great look. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it.
