Service was sad. Staff very unwelcoming.

We came here for a soup with a group of 60 people. All this was reserved in advance, personally and on the spot, and we also discussed that we had to leave on time on the day of the appointment. When booking, WW'ers promised us hand on heart that this would not be a problem! However, the day itself was a complete disappointment: the waiters completely lost track of time - the amount of soup we were served was appalling (the small bowls were not even half full): we can without a doubt call this a disgrace in terms of the menu. Certainly not worth repeating.

Received ridiculously little soup for the money asked! We had reserved soup with bread for 60 people with our walking club for April 25, 2025. We made this reservation during our preliminary exploration at the beginning of March 2025 and immediately ordered soup with bread for our delegation of 5 people: it was nicely presented in a large soup plate and sufficient in terms of volume offered. Now we were offered a small cup that was also only half full or less. Our comments were not listened to and the blame was passed on to the cook who allegedly filled the cups. Simply sad and the fast service agreed in March (12 to 15 minutes before the soup would be on the table) was certainly not achieved: almost 90 minutes before we could leave.

Four of us were there on a Saturday. We just wanted to have 1 drink and then move on. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out to be that easy. First waited 10 minutes for the waiter and then called our attention with his hands. After ordering, it probably took 15-20 minutes, we went in again and asked, waited another 10 minutes and then the beer came. That can't be true. We had already put our caps on and asked for the bill straight away. So I won't come again. Luckily we didn't eat anything.

We initially went outside for a drink and a snack in the afternoon. The service was nice and relatively quick, so far ok. We had reserved a table for 7 people for the evening. The food came at different times, the first after about 1 hour, the last ones had to wait more than 1.5 hours. Since a meat platter with various steaks was completely cooked/dry, it was returned. Of course, when the replacement came after another 30 minutes, the side dishes were cold and needed to be reheated. The wine selection was extremely poor (2 r and 2 each), they advertise Mediterranean dishes, ok, but the wine that went with it was poor in selection and quality. In addition, the service could not provide any information. We had the impression that little or nothing was going well in the kitchen. We don't recommend it, we wouldn't eat dinner there again.

Too long waiting times for the food. You won't be asked if you'd like something else to drink.

We were here today for the first and last time. We waited over 20 minutes for the cards, then another 30 minutes until we were allowed to order. After another 15 minutes our cake arrived but without drinks. So we had to wait another 10 minutes for the drinks. I just wanted to have a nice day with my wife today and treat her to a nice day after a hard week at work. However, it was a disaster. We actually wanted to eat something but we saw the currywurst and the burger at the next table and immediately said we would have cake. The portions are not only small, but also bland. Now about our food: 1x cocoa with cream = impudence!! Half a glass full of cream and the cocoa tastes like water. 1x coffee crema large = this was very tasty but without a spoon to stir. 2x cheesecake = taste was a 10 out of 10 but size ridiculous for the price. One piece was ok in size, the 2 pieces were a joke and only half the size. Total = €20.20 On the whole, Zollverein is always worth a visit, but you should avoid the restaurant. It's a shame not to get any service at these prices and to have such a product thrown at you. Except for one very young, nice lady, the service was just rubbish.

We booked brunch on the occasion of my birthday. Not only was the advance communication great, but also the food (both selection and quality) and the service were impeccable and left nothing to be desired. The buffet was constantly refilled and the drinks were brought to the table promptly. We felt completely at home and were definitely not the last time there.

Great restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere. Even though we didn't have a reservation on a Friday evening and there were only three of us, they still squeezed in tables and chairs so we got a nice spot. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We felt very comfortable and were quite full.

We went for Sunday brunch with nine people. There was so much for breakfast, from sweet to savory, fish, roast beef, cheese, and sausage. Later, starting at 11:30 a.m., we even had lunch. A vegetarian, fish, or meat dish, with potatoes or pasta, salad, and creamy desserts and cakes for dessert. The service was great. 👍🏻

NoGo!!!! 40 minutes after ordering we still haven't received our drink. When we asked the waiter the cheeky answer was that if it wasn't absolutely necessary, we should order something else... I don't believe that now. We have NEVER experienced such poor service. Otherwise the price is far too high for the ambience.

After our tour of the coking plant, 13 of us went to eat at "the mine." The service was very attentive from start to finish. Some colleagues found the portions too small, but for me personally, it was perfectly adequate. I'd be happy to come back.

We had reserved for several people and got a nice table in the really great atmosphere. Unfortunately, that's pretty much it that I can report positively. The food was OK, but nothing special. It was very difficult to even get food. We sat next to an uncleared table for over half an hour until I politely asked if we could at least order something to drink. What was cheeky was a red wine that was offered to me as a "fine wine" for 40 euros and has a market price of a maximum of 7.50 euros. On the bill it was 45. They didn't take much care of us but at least the waitresses were friendly. Unfortunately, that was also our last visit. Maybe spontaneously go for a currywurst again, but the experience was enough for me this year.

I waited 40 minutes for a cocoa

A nice restaurant where you can tell that it wants to offer fine cuisine. This is particularly noticeable in the size of the portion and the price. The menu is clear, which is often a good sign in terms of the quality of the food. Unfortunately, today, on a Wednesday when the restaurant didn't seem too crowded, it took a long time for the food to arrive. Fries and the salad were okay, the currywurst was cold and not really cooked through.

The food and service were simply great, the tiramisu dessert was simply delicious, thank you for the lovely evening.

We had the pleasure of eating at “The Mine” restaurant at the Zeche Zollverein on Saturday evening and we can only warmly recommend it. The restaurant was very full (luckily we had a reservation and can only recommend that everyone do the same), the food was simply delicious and exceeded our expectations. We love the "industrial" atmosphere and are thrilled by the great service from the staff, who were friendly and attentive despite the large crowds. Thanks. The visit to the Red Dot Museum was the perfect start and dinner at "The Mine" made the day perfect. We'll definitely be back.

We were there today with friends from Bottrop for the brunch buffet. The food was very good, lots of choice, everything fresh and well presented. The warm dishes (from 11:30) and the desserts were also very tasty. The atmosphere and charm of the industrial monument are very appealing. The host Luis is very concerned about the well-being of the guests and always has a friendly saying on his lips. It was a great Sunday morning, we'll definitely be back!

We went for Sunday brunch. At first I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't taking place in the normal restaurant but on the upper floor in a fairly large hall, but in the end it was OK. It wasn't as loud as expected. The food was good, the service was relatively quick. The price-performance ratio is extremely good thanks to the drinks flat rate!

Failed on 3 out of 3 visits. * Service underground, haphazard and disorganized. * Schnitzel thicker than a steak (sarcasm) * Order miserable Note: You want service, shout loudly, no one else will come! So: only those who get in touch will be served. Empty glasses on the tables are no reason to be asked if you want something. But they aren't cleared away either, or after a long time. No matter how “empty” it is. Orders at the next table were completely wrong. At least the service staff have a tablet which they spend more time fiddling with than taking care of the customers. A different service person comes by almost every time, okay. If you report that it wasn't that great, you won't follow up. If you want a clean table, just ask if they can bring you a cloth. The service doesn't see any crumbs or chunks or any stains from the previous guests. I would do it because reputation at this location is essential. Attention: Side dishes, i.e. fries, are only available (actually) if you also order a part of the main course. So note: just because you buy a schnitzel for 25 euros doesn't mean you'll get a portion of fries. Card received until possible order placement: 16 minutes. You can't order a beer straight away. Plates and glasses empty until cleared away: 22 minutes with the service staff passing by about 7 times. Oh yes, employee motivation is... at the kiosk you are more interested in a guest coming back. Visit 1: After 35 minutes with the menu handed out, the visit was canceled and drinks weren't even asked. The waiters fought for that. Visit 2: If you don't look at the clock and just have a beer, okay. Visit 3: See above.

We were there for Christmas brunch. 5 people and one child. I really liked the atmosphere. However, it is inconspicuous from the outside, I have been to the site many times and never noticed it. When a second waitress came along later, the service worked well. She often came to the table to ask about our wishes and to clear away. We enjoyed the food, the buffet had a lot to offer, but the rolls were really hard. The hot dishes were served from 12 p.m. There was fish, poultry and pork fillet with various side dishes and 3 different desserts. We enjoyed it. The best thing, however, were the freshly prepared waffles, with powdered sugar, cream and hot cherries if desired. Extra fries were prepared for the child. So apart from the hard rolls, we can't complain about the food.

The ambience is great. I really like the industrial look. However, the buffet is rather poor. The rolls are harder than bricks, the cold cuts curl from the dryness and, more often than not, you find food that has already expired. The service staff rarely come to the table - and when they do come, nothing is cleared away. It doesn't seem all that well thought out. Maybe we should work on this in the future. For my part, I won't come here anymore.

First order of drinks was 30 minutes after arrival The drinks came after 40 minutes. Food was cold and only half as much because you had to wait for sauce again. When a fish platter came instead of a meat platter and we said so, the waiter became very rude and loud. We had to wait 2 hours and 46 minutes for the food. It was a complete disaster and we will not visit this place again

The service was overwhelmed and the quality of the food can be compared to overpaid frozen food. Waited over 2 hours for the food to arrive. And then: Wrong food delivered, where it was still discussed that the guest had supposedly ordered exactly that. The discussion lasted a few minutes, although several guests confirmed that this was not what was ordered. The side dish was missing from several meals and was delivered a good 10 minutes later. One burger was completely cold, the other was burnt and the surface was completely black. Was there a replacement? Of course not. Instead, a free drink was offered. The first and last visit to an overpriced location that can only score points with its ambience.

Quite ok for a coffee and another drink and in a great location right on the Zollverein site. The quality of the food wasn't that good during our visit. We had four tapas. The aioli already had an unsightly skin when it was served. The olives were floating in oil and the fresh bread was a sliced ​​roll. The fact that the Spanish sausage was fried and not fried was a matter of taste. Overall, not a highlight. But the service was good and the ambience fits the place.

What would happen if you filled the plates with large portions? The guests would be happier and not have the bad aftertaste of having paid too much for the small portions. It's a shame, the ambience is better.

The ambience is nice. We were disappointed with the food. My husband ordered a burger and I ordered tagliatelle with chicken and mushroom cream sauce. The burger could not be served because there was no bread. My husband also wanted the ribbon noodles, but there was no more mushroom sauce for that. I then switched to noodles with shrimps, which actually only tasted like lemon and were cold. The other food was also cold and hardly seasoned. The waitress was nice enough to bring us a drink of our choice on the house.

Yesterday, Saturday, Zollverein again. But then: catastrophic service in the "Mine", completely overpriced restaurant. The taste of the food is always debatable, but the quality seemed OK. From there, it's all chaos. The highlight: The food came after a long wait, but there was no cutlery anywhere (we then went looking for it ourselves), even after being asked, it still took 5 minutes, after which half of the food was cold. Even paying was only possible on the third attempt. If you have booked a tour that you should start on time, things get really tight (the organization and friendliness of ticket collection, ordered by phone, is a topic in itself). Hence no tip. Conclusion: Zollverein is rushing downwards as quickly as the conveyor system once did. Too bad.

This restaurant is the nadir of gastronomy. Waiting time for service: 10 minutes. Afterwards waiting time for drinks: 15 minutes. After another 45 minutes and multiple requests, the food came. Waited well over an hour for the food, and when asked, the service became very unfriendly. And it didn't really taste good either. Incredibly bad restaurant.

Very special place, directly opposite the Ruhr Museum and perfect to end the day after a long sightseeing tour. Very modern and stylish interior, with a large seating area outside. Absolutely great and diverse menu. Special requests are happy to be accommodated and the food is not only tasty but also pleasing to the eye. Great restaurant and highly recommended.

The atmosphere is really very appealing. We were there on a Sunday during the fall holidays and it was well attended. The service often took a long time and gave the impression of being stressed. My husband and I both ordered currywurst with fries for €11.90. It was obvious that my husband's portion was significantly larger than mine (it's about the amount of fries). At the next table the “women’s portion” was also significantly smaller. This should be reconsidered because you still pay the full price. Therefore there was no tip and there was no farewell from the staff. The taste of the food is debatable. It's all a matter of taste.

However, they closed very early outside, but I just managed to get a little something.

We were with a small group in the so-called Event location. Cold, undecorated and uncomfortable hall with train station flair. It took 90 minutes until the first pepper sauce was served with the steak...unfortunately it was already cold. Another half hour until the steaks were served...subterranean. Everything is served at a pig's gallop with a serving trolley at canteen level. Unfortunately I still have to give it one star (why are there no negative stars?). Never again, promise.

I've been here for the umpteenth time with friends and have never left a review, which I'm happy to do now. There were eight of us there today and we were all impressed by the great brunch, the friendly staff and their friendliness. 👍👍 A great quality of the meat, fish etc. 👌 Despite the busy restaurant, the drinks were all delivered very quickly. Chapeau. Louis the restaurant manager and Gülcan the boss always came to the tables in between to ask if everything was ok, that's how you feel comfortable.!! We all left the restaurant very satisfied and well-fed. Therefore.....See you soon.

After the two-star rating came a lot of mail (there is now one star less ‎😛). It is alleged that I am guilty of defamation. When I tried to get in touch to clarify the matter (if necessary before the arbitration board), nothing came up. It seems to me that the main thing here is trying to get rid of negative reviews. But to accuse dissatisfied guests of a crime is, in my opinion, strong language. Like many others, I was only disappointed by the long waiting times, the somewhat rough service, but above all that you can only pay in cash here. And that the service staff doesn't point out that there's an ATM just around the corner. None of it was particularly nasty, or offensive, or anything. The experience in the restaurant itself wasn't particularly bad either. Hence 2 stars back then. Now just one more.

I celebrated a big birthday at The Mine with friends and family and rented the entire place for it. It was a truly unforgettable evening. The buffet was terrific, my guests were all thrilled without exception. The service was super nice and that applies to everyone who looked after us that evening. Following a recommendation from The Mine, we had a fantastic mix of live music and DJ, which meant that the mood was immediately at “100”. But it wasn't just the evening itself that was beautiful. The preparation together with the team from The Mine was extremely pleasant! If I had to describe what my birthday at The Mine was like in one word, here it is: Perfect!

Absolutely catastrophic and unable to learn It was reserved for a birthday for 14 adults plus a child and dog. Spontaneously two people weren't there, which was good because there was only room for 12 people. The table was not set. The tapas for the pre-ordered starter were not on plates as requested but in small bowls. Ordered drinks were forgotten. For more than an hour neither new drinks nor the main course were taken away. Then they wanted to order The Mine platters (meat and fish) for two. (The platters contain everything that you can order individually as dishes) At first they said you couldn't order the platters, you had to take individual dishes. After you asked to ask the boss again, it suddenly worked. After a long time the food arrived, the meat was cold, the burger we ordered was half raw (was returned, the new one came cold after a long wait but it was done) sauces and grilled vegetables were also cold. The side salad we ordered didn't come after we pointed it out several times. A sauce was returned with the request that a warm sauce be served. After about 15 minutes we pointed out that the sauce was still missing, and it came back to the table cold. After asking the boss to come and have a chat, the waiters disappeared for a while, but the boss never came. The same thing at the next table. They waited 3 hours for their food, and the starter and main course arrived at the same time. Some of the guests cleared their tables themselves to get some space. Unfortunately, the staff was absolutely unmotivated right from the start. Not recommended.

Had ordered a table for 10 people, 4:15 p.m. Came in at 4:06 p.m. and was told it would take another 10 minutes, even though not all the tables were occupied. The waitresses really weren't friendly, we had to wait about 30 minutes until we could order (drinks even then). Half of the group received their food at some point, the other half only when the first ones were already finished! Including 2 small children. In between there is no question as to whether you would like to order something else, whether you are supplied with drinks…. You were simply ignored. Many dishes, the pasta and salads were probably quite good, but the burger and the tapas were at best snack level. We didn't feel welcome there at all. Never again!

Was there on Sunday (October 6th, 2024) for the breakfast/brunch buffet... Unfortunately totally disappointing. The service was completely overwhelmed. We've been told several times that pretty much everything is empty, just 30 minutes after opening. Scrambled eggs were refilled after an hour... Tomato Mozzarella remained empty until the end... The brunch was only lukewarm when it was served, even though everything was supposed to be freshly prepared... The atmosphere for it is nice.

I can't say anything about the food because we didn't eat anything, just drank. The ambience is very nice but a huge minus point is that you can only pay with a card if you spend 10 euros or more.... why... is not understandable.. ..it's not written anywhere...and the service also lectures the non-German speaking guests, really not a good host quality

Wir waren zum zweiten Mal dort, weil es auch vegane Gerichte und Fleischgerichte gab. Die vegane Currywurst mit Pommes und Salat war sehr lecker. Das Personal durch die Reihe superfreundlich und hilfsbereit. Kann die schlechten Bewertungen da gar nicht verstehen. Das Ambiente ist außergewöhnlich und gemütlich. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

The worst currywurst ever. Almost no curry powder on the sausage. We were asked by the landlord if everything was OK. When I answered whether he could bring some more curry, he just looked at me xxxxx and disappeared. No curry came. This was explicitly discussed with the employees in advance. When we arrived, we again pointed out that we only had 90 minutes on site. We waited about 20 minutes for drinks and then got our food after 75 minutes (!). Everything tasted good and was satisfactory, but the timing was simply disappointing, so we arrived way too late for the next item on the program. We would have expected that the food would be served immediately upon arrival, as everything had already been prepared and could be planned. Too bad!

Nice place, the food was good! Ordered dessert, didn't come, when asked we were told we'd bring it straight away, unfortunately it wasn't brought at all. Requested a bill several times, finally got up and went to the counter to pay the bill!

It was really great to sit there comfortably after a tour, which just made me very sad. There was no sauder in Essen at a mine, all the kiosks on the site sold it and unfortunately there was no one to eat :-( otherwise great

We celebrated our wedding in *The Mine* at the Zollverein Coal Mine and were completely thrilled!!! The location is simply fantastic and the ambience is incomparable. The staff was extremely committed, attentive and implemented our every wish immediately. The kitchen is particularly noteworthy - the food was not only delicious, but an absolute highlight that our guests will rave about for a long time. The decoration was also implemented exactly as we imagined. The planning was uncomplicated from the start and was supported by an extremely professional team, as was the on-site service. The child-friendliness was particularly pleasing – our little guests also felt completely at home. We will definitely be back and have decided to eat there every year on our wedding anniversary from now on. Unreserved recommendation!"

I have to say that I rarely see a restaurant where the walls aren't specially painted. The concrete look gives the whole thing a special charm. The wooden tables are also very nice. Directly next to the coal works. The food was super tasty, even if it took a while to arrive. The staff is nice and in general you can say that it is a restaurant where you can eat more than once. 👍

Experienced the worst service of the year

Apparently the only restaurant open after 6 p.m. Without registering we had to sit outside because everything inside was full. Unfortunately it was very cold. I would have liked pillows and blankets on the wooden benches. We had a burger and vegetables. The vegetable pan for €16.90 was totally overcooked and made without any finesse. Taste bland. The burger for €16.90 was also not recommended as it was also small and tasted bland. No onions, no ketchup, nothing that underlines the taste of the little melted cheese and the patty. Overall, everything is expensive. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Vorspeise Calamaris TK Ware, aussen und innen matschig. Bandnudeln mit Rinderfilet Streifen ohne Pepp, nur mi Sahne gebunden, dafür 20 Euro, na ja. Really worth a visit. Very nice and attentive service, great ambience and excellent food. Absolutely recommended. Coffee also tastes great. We reserved in advance - I think it's recommended. There are enough parking spaces.

No special food itself, I had the mineburger which was reasonable but not really a “German” portion My wife had salmon but it was fried too dry. The side plate was also little It wasn't busy but we had to wait a long time After the drink and food, no one from the staff asked if the taste was satisfactory or if you wanted anything else. Won't spend my money there a second time

Delicious food at reasonable prices at the Zollverein Coal Mine - the staff was extremely cheerful and quick - recommended!

After a long tour of the mine site, we went to this restaurant. After the colliery ambience of the museum, the atmosphere was much cleaner and in a certain way more well-behaved and, in terms of design, not quite as sophisticated as the industrially raw colliery area and museum. The staff was very approachable, relaxed and easygoing, which was very nice. The burger was extremely good!! Normally, I think burgers tend to taste a bit the same everywhere, but this one had something special. The bread was good, the salad was fresh and the overall combination was very successful. The food was great, as was the service, but the ambience could have had a bit more energy.

Ambiance was very nice and authentic. Unfortunately we were ignored by the staff and were only able to place our order after 15 minutes. Unfortunately the cappuccino was pure broth and tasted very disgusting. Maybe it's better not to order coffee here...

Food was ok. Unfortunately service was very bad. At over 30°C we had to wait a long time until we were noticed by the waitress (it wasn't full) to order drinks.

We ate phenomenal. We ordered these dishes: pasta with chicken and mushroom, sausage and breaded beef fillet with fries and for starters Spanish choricito with white wine and chicken strips. Excellent treatment. Ah!!! and the cool beer.

Food and service without complaint… to put it simply, very good!!! The only thing that bothered me was the cleanliness of the toilets... Mmm, there's still something going on people 😊

Das Gelände des Zollvereins ist sehr groß und es gibt einiges zu entdecken. Da braucht man zwischendrin etwas ordentliches zu essen. Natürlich Currywurst! Ich habe mich glücklicherweise für 2 Tapasgerichte entschieden, denn die Portionen sind recht großzügig bemessen. Die Servicekräfte sind sehr freundlich.

Very poor service as i got there 10 min before 19h and they said they are not serving any food, not even peanuts. Why have such fancy places in a former industrial place? Is it so difficult to offer snacks until later or at least 8pm?
