The Cube in Hamburg

We stopped at Cube to eat. What a disappointment: cold welcome, very bad service. Neither hello nor goodbye. We felt like we were disturbing the staff. The cooking was decent.

Had one Booked an arrangement with a museum tour, everything worked out great. The 4 course menu afterwards was also really tasty and very nicely presented. Unfortunately everything was very hectic. One course “chased” the next, another coffee? Machine is switched off. It's a shame to quickly get drinks. It ruined the lovely evening a bit. We would have liked a little more peace and quiet to enjoy.

Modern, friendly service, nice ambience, good menu at fair prices, sophisticated plate language. The coffee is also delicious and fairly inexpensive.

My wife and I went to the Cube Restaurant in the Kunsthalle for the umpteenth time. And this time we were once again thrilled by the top-quality food and the super service. The ambience in the restaurant is great and the sensational view over the Christmas-lit Alster with the large Christmas tree in the middle of the Alster is unique. For us, the Cube is one of Hamburg's top restaurants with 5 stars plus!

UPDATE. Owner tried to get this review offline. Customers be aware. Low quality restaurant. Here's my review of the Cube restaurant. Unfortunately, I can't say I had a great experience. The cake was dry and tasteless, and the coffee was also pretty disappointing. On top of that, I found the staff to be unfriendly and unhelpful. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant based on my visit.

A small restaurant inside the Kunsthalle that has a reputation for good food but mixed service. I experienced both. Beet Carpacio and daily soup were great. The original waiter was very good but he left half way through and his replacement wanted me about as much as a dog wants fleas.

Ok, unfortunately no oat milk, cake ok. Prices are juicy. More could be done with it.

I entered the cube actually with the aim of treating myself to a coffee and a piece of cake after an event at the Kunsthalle. At lunchtime it was very busy, today with a large group of people who had booked a tour together with a shared meal in the Cube. I think this is a good idea when visiting friends or family to crown a visit to the exhibition with a meal! A wonderful atmosphere welcomed me. The waiter brought the menu and told me in a pleasant manner that he would be there for me for the duration of my stay. I found this particularly nice because even in this day and age, going to a restaurant alone as a woman is not always easy! He explained to me the daily special - pork cheeks with chanterelles and potato gratin - it just sounded so tempting that I changed my mind! I didn't regret this: I hadn't eaten such tender meat in a long time! The price was more than fair - an all-round successful Sunday meal! Thanks for that! I'll be back!

Friendly & very nice view. Very small selection of cakes (2 types) and unfortunately the main course had burnt noodles. For the price I wouldn't come back.

The absolute worst service we have ever experienced in Germany. The two female waiters were grumpy and disengaged, didn't say hello, goodbye or thank you, and then they managed to serve the wrong thing twice both at our table and the neighboring table. The food was indifferent, boring and prepared from pre-bought ingredients. We have actually been there twice before a few years ago, with a completely different experience - now it is a blemish on the city's leading art museum.

Tuesday noon. Waiting for a table in the entrance area, access only after request from the staff. Measly selection of cakes (3 types). I choose a piece of banana and currant cake (approx. 3x6 cm), which turns out to be quite dry. Plus a pot of coffee. Total cost: €6.20. Clean, attractive atmosphere, friendly service. Conclusion: you can go there as a place to go for coffee and cake, but it's not my first choice.

Whether you liked the exhibition or not, you can relax in the Cube. Cake good, but little choice. If there is a lot of traffic, there is a waiting time.

I was invited to a birthday party. The food was very, very tasty. The service was courteous. The facility has a nice atmosphere so that you feel comfortable here. It was the second time I was here and will definitely be several times.

Very hectic employees, you can expect a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. You can get the cheapest sheet cake from a large bakery for the price of homemade cake. No lactose-free milk available, nor any other alternatives. The service wasn't really friendly and completely incompetent. Probably due to a lack of staff. Conclusion: If they weren't directly in the gallery, they probably wouldn't have so many visitors.

The premises were booked for a Christmas party. The buffet, including desserts, was excellent, the toilets were clean and large. The view from the terrace was breathtakingly beautiful, as you could clearly see the Christmas-lit Binnenalster ❣️

Our Christmas party in The Cube was top class. The food was fantastic and sufficient. There was no waiting time at the buffet even though there were over 80 of us. The service was courteous and really on point, yet at the same time virtually invisible. A great DJ was also recommended, so that the dance floor was packed from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Overall a successful event. We would be happy to come back.

Tolle Location mit sehr gutem Essen. Die Firmen-Weihnachtsfeier, mit Menü und Führung in der Kunsthalle, wurde zu einem rundum schönen und gelungen Event. Vielen Dank an das tolle Team vor Ort.

War echt lecker, 3 Gänge Menü. 1) Cremige Maronensuppe 2) Entenbrust + Rotkohl 3) Nachtisch (Siehe Bild) Normaler esse ich gar kein Rotkohl, trotzdem hatte komplett aufgegessen. Absolut zu empfehlen. Ambiente, Essen & Service Top. Werde öfter dahin gehen.

Gerne sind wir mit Freunden zu „Art & Cube“ gegangen. Inzwischen kostet das „Vergnügen“ 48 (statt 40) Euro. Der enthaltene 3-gängige Lunch ist heute, mit Verlaub, ein „kulinarischer“ Witz. Eine Selleriesuppe, die wie aus der Tüte schmeckt, Gnocchis von der Metro auf ein bisschen Spinat und ein kleines Stückchen 0815-Schokokuchen. Sorry, das ist das Geld nicht ansatzweise wert. Große Enttäuschung und peinlich gegenüber unseren Gästen, die wir eingeladen hatte.

Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Nachmittag im Cube. Das Essen war extrem lecker und der Service exzellent. Vielen Dank an Frau Kindermann für die zuvorkommende und herzliche Bedienung. Eine absolute Empfehlung. Wir kommen ganz sicher wieder 🔝

Dopo una visita al Kunsthalle una buona pausa ci vuole.

Unterirdisch, man wird am Samstag um 15.30 Uhr nicht mehr bedient weil angeblich eine große Gruppe erwartet wird. Weder ein Café noch sonst ein Getränk. Das geht bei einem Museum von dieser Kategorie eigentlich gar nicht. Schade Hamburg

Art museum restaurants tend to be as stiff as contemporary art is bewildering. And this place is cavernous and pretty formal looking. The team was really relaxed when I was there, and as friendly as Van Gough irises. The vege burger would have been a 5* experience if the chef had decided to stop applying sauce before the otherwise virtuous patty drowned at sea. The bun was terrific, as were the chips. €15 seems about right for respite within a truly great art museum.

The worst cheesecake I had ever. They don't hold together. The taste was bland and artificial. The coffee was also below average: tasted like one from a convenience store coffee machine. It is nevertheless a convenient place to take a break during your museum visit. I recommend you to only order bottled beverages.

Wir haben das Lokal mit einer Gruppe von Kindern besucht. Wir waren sehr positiv überrascht, dass das Restaurant so gemütlich ist. Das Essen kam sehr schnell. Die Bedienung war nett.

Gutes Essen, guter Service, aufgrund der Raumgröße kann es auch sehr laut werden.

Beste Restaurant in Hamburg… Vom Betreten des Restaurants bis zum Abschied wurden wir sehr herzlich bedient. Ein sehr gepflegtes Ambiente, kleine Menükarte mit toller Auswahl. Das Essen war superlecker. Die Teller sind so liebevoll angerichtet. Das Personal ist sehr aufmerksam, nicht zu aufdringlich aber bemüht dass man sich wohl fühlt. Und das tolle ist, man kann davor oder danach gleich nebenan ins Kunstmuseum. Wir kommen wieder, definitiv eine Top Adresse *****

Le restaurant est sitdans le bâtiment cubique qui fait face à la vénérable Kunsthalle. J’ai dégusté du saumon gravlax accompagné de pommes de terre paillasson et d’une salade de crudités. Très bons produits bien cuisinés. Bière pression. Prix raisonnables (15 à 19€ le plat)

Wir hatten ein großartiges 4 Gänge Menü bei sehr netten und zuvorkommenden Mitarbeitern, meinen größten Komplimente an den Koch und den Service! Ein toller Blick auf die Binnenalster rundet das Erlebnis, sehr gerne wieder.

Das Lokal ist super von Service und Essen ... aber habe eine Karte für 129,90 gekauft von einer Agentur ... Single Party ... 20.00 beginn ... es standen 90 Teilnehmer auf Liste wovon 82 um 21.45 anwesend waren ... 68 Frauen und 14 Männer. Habe die Veranstaltung dann um 22.15 verlassen. Das The Cude wird dafür nichts können aber sollte vielleicht in eigener Aktion eine Party machen. Dann wollte ich einen Fernet Branca mit Espresso ... beides gab es ... nur was auf der Karte steht darf man bestellen ???? Frohes Neues Jahr

Unbelievable that such a nice and beautiful museum can have such a sad restaurant. Overcooked and overprized pasta with no taste at all. Absolutely no atmosphere.

...und Glück hat nicht jeder. Wir sind gestern nach einem Besuch in der Kunsthalle auf einen Kaffee in The Cube gegangen. Ich erwarte von einer Bedienung ein gewisses Maß an Freundlichkeit, hier aber weit gefehlt. Der Kaffee war in Ordnung.

Die Mitarbeiterin führt sich auf als würde ihr das Museum gehören. Ist extrem zickig. Würde meiner Meinung nach besser besser in den Beruf einer Zollbeamtin passen, als für Serviceleistungen. Das Essen war aber trotzdem gut.

Neben der Kunsthalle befindet sich dieses Restaurant mit Terrasse. Von hier kann man auf die Binnenalster sehen. Die Terrasse ist ohne jegliche Pflanzendekoration. Insofern erinnert mich das eher an einen Gewerbebau. Der Eindruck setzt sich in den Toiletten fort. Hier fehlt jegliches Design. Im Restaurant wirkt auf mich die Einrichtung sehr dunkel. Insofern tranken wir nur ein Glas Wein, Pinot Grigio, der vom Mitarbeiter angeboten wurde, der aber nicht auf der Karte steht. Offene Weine sind wenig im Ausschank. Ein Plus ist das im Haus befindliche teure Parkhaus. Den Ort fuer Lunch oder Dinner stelle ich mir anders vor.

Nur als Pausenstop während des Museumsbesuchs zu empfehlen. Service nicht besonders freundlich. Auf Aussenterasse viel zu laut wegen Lärm von Strasse und von Eisenbahnlinie.

Si la terrasse est belle et donne sur le lac, et ce qu’il y a dans les assiettes plutôt convenable, l’accueil est glacial. Est-il normal de se faire tancer quand on s’assoit à la table avant qu’elle soit nettoyée ou quand on va payer à la caisse...serveurs non souriants, glaciaux et autoritaires...dommage d’être traité de la sorte...

Der Blick auf die Alster und der direkte Zugang zu der Kunsthalle ist der Hammer. Das Essen war eine Enttäuschung: Die bestellte Trüffel Pasta war überkocht und schlabberig. Viel zu weiche Penne. Es hat wie in der Mikrowelle aufgewärmt geschmeckt und teilweise kalt. Dennoch, sehr viel Trüffel und ein schön dekorierter Teller. Preis ~13 Euro.

Mittags gibt es eine verschlangte Karte mit nur wenigen Gerichten. Modernes Ambiente und trotzdem gemütlich. Wir hatten eine Paprika/Sahnesuppe, sehr schmackhaft und ein Rösti mit Gravetlachs. Zu dem Lachs (sehr frisch) gab es eine Senf-Dillsoße und Creamfraiche mit Kräutern. Dazu gab es noch einen knackigen Salat. Alles schmeckte ausgezeichnet und wir waren rundum zufrieden.

The cube sollte man immer mit einem Besuch der Kunsthalle verbinden. Möglichst eine Führung machen und danach etwas gutes Essen. DAs Ambiente ist soweit ok und man hat einen schönen Blick auf die Binnenalster. Wir hatten Art and diner gebucht. Es gab ein 4-Gänge Menü welches sehr schmackhaft und gut war. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam. Das Essen kam bis zum Nachtisch sehr zügig, welches bei manchen vielleicht nicht so sehr angekommen würde. Aber es ist zu empfehlen!

We stopped here for an espresso coffee and we say at a table but after waiting a bit we decided to go near the bar where the register and the employee was, to order and pay. If you go there please remember that you can be anywhere except near the register as that is a work area and another employee scolded us for doing so. It was out first time there so we did not know. Sorry of weird arrangement and weird way of treating a customer. Coffee was ok.

We decided to have some lunch here while visiting the museum it is attached to. Big mistake. The food itself was rather bland, but still acceptable. The nightmare began however when we tried to pay. I spent 20 minutes trying to flag down the waiter who decidedly ignored us until I made enough noise and (very) loudly asked to pay. The waiter indicated he would bring the bill shortly. In the following 40 minuted this waiter continued to completely ignore us despite our best efforts to gain his attention (not in a rude way). Over this hour another table managed to arrive, eat, pay, and leave while we were stuck there just waiting to pay. This wait only ended when a waitress who had been tending an entirely different area of the restaurant came over and asked us if we were ready to order. We told her that we had been waiting to pay and she pulled the waiter over. He arrived with the bill and we wanted to pay by card. He pointed to some fine print on the edge of the menu and told us that our Debit Cards would not be accepted and we did not have enough cash (we come from a country where Debit Card payment is the standard). I asked if there was an ATM nearby and ran over there while my partner waited in the restaurant. When I returned I stood waiting at the till for another 10min while this waiter repeatedly walked past me. Once again the other waitress who saw me stand there had to call him over. Only then did he proceed with payment. I even apologized for the debit card mishap, to which he replied with a snide insult. The delay from all of this cost us an entire afternoon of our weekend stay, as by the time we left all of the places we wanted to see had closed. I should also mention that the restaurant at the time was the opposite of busy. The waitress was handling the only large group there, and apart from that there were maybe 2-3 people in the restaurant. So if you've read this far, I highly recommend NOT visiting this restaurant.

Convenient for the museum visitors, and a nice place to have a coffee of a snack, but definitely overpriced if you go for a full meal. My tuna carpaccio was tasty, but my companion's salmon definitely too salty.

Located in the arthall moments away from the train station, the Cube restaurant is an oasis with good food, great coffee and drinks but also excellent icecream. Prices are good and the service is fast and excellent.
