The food was great, but the young lady at the reception was unfortunately very unfriendly. We dropped in spontaneously and asked if there were any unreserved seats available in the empty-looking gallery, as it had been far too loud downstairs. The lady then became very snappy, went upstairs with us, dropped the menus on a table, and left without a word or a glance at us. The server, on the other hand, was super accommodating and friendly! The burgers are typical of The Ash and are highly recommended. The restaurant is also in a great location for parking, as there are plenty of free spaces.

That was it...despite repeatedly calling for our attention, we weren't served or noticed...but the three waiters were able to clear a table and chat...They also served guests who arrived much later...A very disappointing experience...After a 20-minute wait, we left the restaurant...

Sunday buffet nothing special, very disgusting waffle iron shortly before the end of the buffet time. Meat only moderate ribs and moderate crispy chicken wings. The rest is normal. Buffet detracts from the otherwise better impression of a normal steak meal. Then steaks and side dishes ok

The burger was one of the best I've ever eaten - juicy meat, perfectly grilled, with fresh ingredients and a wonderfully fluffy bun. There were also crispy fries and a homemade sauce that rounded the whole thing off perfectly. The service was also great: friendly, attentive and fast. The stylish ambience creates a relaxed, yet special atmosphere. If you're looking for good burgers and a great overall experience, this is the place for you! I'll definitely be back!

I went to The ASH yesterday and it was amazing! As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was impressed by the stylish ambience - modern, cozy and with a great atmosphere. The service was super friendly and attentive without being intrusive. My steak was perfectly grilled, juicy and full of flavor - exactly how I wanted it. The side dishes and drinks were also great. For me it was a thoroughly successful evening and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Absolute recommendation!

Excellent service at a world-class level! I travel to restaurants all over the world for work and pleasure and have rarely experienced such an outstanding service person as Sam. From the first moment she was completely professional, attentive and to the point - exactly as it should be! Hospitality is not only very important here at Ash, it is actually lived. Our waitress Sam enriched every moment of the evening with her charm, expertise and perfect timing. A service person through and through who takes the experience at Ash to a top level. The wonderful ambience, the excellent cuisine were convincing and the outstanding service made the evening unforgettable. A big compliment to the entire team – and thanks again to our service person Sam! Clearly 5 stars. Unreserved recommendation!

One star less because a large drink is simply brought how am I supposed to drink 0.75 of water alone? I had it taken away straight away..

We were invited to eat there with 6 adults and 2 kids. The ambience is quite nice at first glance. The benches were then very soft and worn out. Substructure clearly and possibly sensitively noticeable. Unfortunately, as the number of guests increased, the music became louder and louder. Entertainment only possible with direct neighbors. Some of the food was ok. Veggie burgers and chicken nugets are not recommended. Desserts are great, visually too. Given the price range, you can expect a little more. Too bad!

I visited the shop five times, on different days and at different times - sometimes with a larger group, sometimes only in pairs. The meat was always a sad sight on the plate and hard to beat in its disappointment! The presentation seemed careless, as if it had just been put there quickly. The taste was also inconsistent: excellent one day, barely edible the next. The meat, which was always ordered "well done", always arrived differently - sometimes even cold! The rest of the food was mostly good and looked attractive on the plate, only the steaks stood out negatively. The service staff makes an effort, but their overly friendly manner comes across as unpleasant. It's better to have a neutral facial expression, but still friendly, than this fake friendliness. And you don't want to be offered what you don't order all the time. Every time you have to defend yourself against the penetrating advertising for supplements etc. - after the tenth "no thanks" it gets really annoying. The steaks are definitely overpriced given the varying quality. There are places in Dortmund that offer better taste, more appealing presentation and at a cheaper price! The rest of the food, such as burgers, chili, fries and salads, was excellent. The waiting times are also a big drawback. Regardless of whether the store is busy or not, I have never waited less than 40 minutes.

The burger was OK, but not above average. Despite a reservation (1.5 hours according to the online reservation regarding Valentine's Day), the "table time" was limited to 1.25 hours. After ordering and serving the food and drinks, we were no longer asked if we would like anything else to drink. I had to wait almost 30 minutes for the bill. More show than substance.

We were visiting Dortmund and spontaneously got a place. Overall, the food was quite good and the service was friendly and accommodating. There was a small minus with my Frank steak sandwich; unfortunately the meat was a bit cold and tough, but overall quite tasty. The prices were neither overpriced nor cheap, so a healthy average. It's definitely worth a visit to form your own opinion.

Wir hatten heute Abend einen Platz an den hohen Tischen am Fenster im Barbereich, es hat alles hervorragend gepasst. Aufmerksame und nette Bedienung, sehr gut schmeckendes Essen, preislich voll angemessen.

Great ambience, great service and the meat was mega! We were there with a group of 6 people and everyone was super happy. The meat was always just right and really tasty! The only negative point: the benches are very deep and you feel like you're sinking so far down that you're almost sitting on the floor.

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my visit. The ambience is average at best, so I only give it two stars. The long waiting time was particularly annoying - we had to wait a whole hour for our food. When it finally came, my order was also wrong. Added to this are the completely overpriced prices, which in no way correspond to the quality of the food. The food itself was disappointing in terms of taste and did not meet my expectations. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant.

The meat was somehow cold but the service is great, beautiful hard-working women and men

Unfortunately, the (service) quality at The Ash is very variable and depends heavily on the respective staff. I would not recommend the restaurant for children. After my first experience a few years ago, where I was served a cold and not particularly tender - but very expensive - steak, I didn't really want to come back. Friends have also reported similar things. During the Corona period, however, we gave The Ash another chance and had burgers delivered to us. These were surprisingly good! About a month and a half ago I was there again in person and was pleasantly surprised by the new atmosphere, even if the music is unfortunately often too loud. The service was great that day. I found it particularly funny that the waitress called me and my mother, who is over 70, on first-name terms - that just suited the employee and we were happy. The burgers came quickly and tasted good. However, I'm sticking with my decision not to eat steaks there anymore, because I still hear disappointing things too often. There are simply better alternatives in Dortmund. A week later I was there with a larger group and two small children. The children enjoyed it, even if the music was quite loud and it wasn't possible to have a good conversation. Yesterday I was there again, but unfortunately the experience was not convincing. Our waitress “Laura” didn’t give us a children’s menu and had to take the order several times because the system supposedly crashed. That wasn't a big problem for us, but when the burgers and side dishes didn't come exactly as ordered, we were a little skeptical. The children's cheeseburger in particular caused confusion: it didn't look like a typical cheeseburger and the meat was covered in a sauce that was reminiscent of a pink cocktail sauce. The boy was expecting a cheeseburger like the week before, was disappointed, and ended up with part of my adult burger, which looked normal. I ate ¾ of the children's burger instead, even though that wasn't planned, and left about ¼ for the kitchen to inspect. It definitely wasn't a cheeseburger. At the end, when I was clearing up, I simply wanted to ask whether the preparation of the children's burger was correct and I also explained that I was only interested in clarification and in no way about not wanting to pay for the burger. “Laura” apologized, but didn't go into the kitchen to ask, as I could see. When I asked her about it again when paying, all I got was the answer: “No, the kitchen said everything was fine.” This confused me a bit because I didn't get a clear explanation. If children's burgers always taste and look different there, you should perhaps communicate this beforehand. From my experience, children in particular are more likely to enjoy consistency. Conclusion: If my family likes it, we are very loyal guests and don't have excessive demands. We go out to eat every Sunday as a tradition. As a rule, the invoice amount is always around 150 euros. But we will probably take some distance from The Ash again for now. For children, the shop opposite (belongs to the same investor) is a better choice. There is also a play kitchen and ground-level toilets for people who are no longer able to walk very well. But much more important: you get what you order and the pizza for children is always the same.

Leider ist die (Service-)Qualität im The Ash sehr wechselhaft und stark vom jeweiligen Personal abhängig. Für Kinder würde ich das Restaurant eher weniger empfehlen. Nach meiner ersten Erfahrung vor ein paar Jahren, bei der ich ein kaltes und nicht besonders zartes – dafür aber sehr teures – Steak serviert bekam, wollte ich eigentlich nicht wiederkommen. Ähnliches haben auch Freunde berichtet. Während der Corona-Zeit haben wir dem The Ash jedoch noch einmal eine Chance gegeben und uns Burger liefern lassen. Diese waren überraschend gut! Vor etwa eineinhalb Monaten war ich dann auch persönlich wieder dort und war vom neuen Ambiente positiv überrascht, auch wenn die Musik leider oft zu laut ist. Der Service war an diesem Tag klasse. Besonders witzig fand ich, dass die Bedienung mich und meine Ü70-Mutter duzte – das passte einfach zu dem Mitarbeiter und wir haben uns gefreut. Die Burger kamen schnell und schmeckten gut. Allerdings bleibe ich bei meiner Entscheidung, dort keine Steaks mehr zu essen, denn man hört immer noch zu oft enttäuschendes. In Dortmund gibt es dafür einfach bessere Alternativen. Eine Woche später war ich mit einer größeren Gruppe und zwei kleinen Kindern dort. Den Kindern hat es geschmeckt, auch wenn die Musik wieder ziemlich laut war und man sich nicht gut unterhalten konnte. Gestern war ich erneut dort, aber die Erfahrung war leider nicht überzeugend. Unsere Bedienung “Laura” gab uns keine Kinderkarte und musste die Bestellung mehrfach aufnehmen, weil das System angeblich abgestürzt war. Das war für uns kein großes Problem, aber als die Burger und Beilagen später nicht ganz so kamen, wie bestellt, waren wir etwas skeptisch. Besonders der Kinder-Cheeseburger sorgte für Verwirrung: Er sah nicht nach einem typischen Cheeseburger aus und das Fleisch war mit einer Sauce übergossen, die an eine rosa Cocktailsauce erinnerte. Der Junge hatte einen Cheeseburger wie in der Woche davor erwartet, war enttäuscht und landete schließlich bei einem Teil meines Erwachsenen-Burgers, der ganz normal aussah. Ich habe dann stattdessen den Kinder-Burger zu ¾ gegessen, obwohl das so nicht geplant war und ließ etwa ¼ für die Küche zur Inspizierung übrig. Ein Cheeseburger war das definitiv nicht. Zum Abschluss wollte ich beim Abräumen einfach nachfragen, ob die Zubereitung des Kinder-Burgers so korrekt war und erklärte auch, dass es mir nur um Aufklärung und keinesfalls darum ging, den Burger nicht bezahlen zu wollen. “Laura” entschuldigte sich zwar, ging jedoch gar nicht in die Küche, um nachzufragen, wie ich sehen konnte. Als ich sie bei der Bezahlung noch einmal darauf ansprach, bekam ich lediglich die Antwort: “Nee, war alles in Ordnung hat die Küche gesagt.” Das hat mich etwas irritiert, da ich keine klare Erklärung bekam. Falls Kinder-Burger dort immer anders schmecken und unterschiedlich aussehen, sollte man das vielleicht vorher kommunizieren. Aus meiner Erfahrung freuen sich insbesondere Kinder eher über Beständigkeit. Fazit: Wenn es meiner Familie gefällt, sind wir sehr treue Gäste und haben auch keine überzogenen Ansprüche. Wir gehen, aus Tradition, jeden Sonntag essen. In der Regel liegt der Rechnungsbetrag dabei immer bei rund 150 Euro. Wir werden aber wohl erstmal wieder etwas Abstand vom The Ash nehmen. Für Kinder ist der Laden gegenüber (gehört nebenbei zum selben Investor) die bessere Wahl. Da gibt’s auch eine Spielküche und ebenerdige Toiletten für Leute, die nicht mehr so gut zu Fuß sind. Viel wichtiger aber: Man bekommt auch das, was man bestellt und das Essen für Kinder ist immer gleich.

I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful restaurant and it was just perfect! As soon as you enter you can feel the warm and inviting atmosphere. The stylish ambience, the lovingly set tables and the friendly staff make your stay particularly pleasant. The food was a true masterpiece! Each course was prepared with great care, the ingredients were fresh and of the highest quality. The flavors harmonized perfectly and you could taste the chef's passion in every bite. I was particularly impressed by the hamburger, which was simply delicious! The service also deserves high praise – attentive, professional and always with a smile. The staff's recommendations were excellent and you felt completely at home. This restaurant is a real insider tip for all foodies! I can highly recommend it and look forward to my next visit. Wir waren an einem Donnerstag Abend im Februar 2025 da, zu zweit als Paar, das riesige Lokal überraschend gut gefüllt. Es war unser dritter oder vierter Besuch im Ash Dortmund und wir fanden es wieder sehr gut. Tapas als Vorspeise, Cesar Salad, Steak mit Sides und einen Plant based Burger, zum Nachtisch Apple Crumble, alles gut. Dazu der Hauswein auch prima. Laura war sehr bemüht um uns. Bei der Bestellung wurden noch mal die in der Speisekarte schon genannten Zutaten zu Burger und Co durchgesprochen, so wie es in USA auch gerne gemacht wird. Ich kann einige negative Bewertungen hier nicht nachvollziehen, aber vielleicht ist es ja Glücksache, was man erlebt. Mein einziger Minuspunkt fürs Ash: die Akustik des hallenähnlichen Gastraums ist schlecht, wenn es voll ist, wird es leider ziemlich laut - auch das ganz amerikanisch...
