Haus Prein in Dortmund

We were there last night with our team. The restaurant is located right on the street and there's plenty of parking. It's quite large and suitable for very large groups (though reservations are recommended). Despite its size, it's not noisy, so conversations at the table are no problem. The decor is very tasteful and harmonious. The staff is friendly and always on the ball (thanks, Vjeko! 😊). The food was really good. My only criticism was the meat on the skewer, which was quite marbled with fat. That's not really to my liking, but that's just a matter of personal taste. Everything else was exceptionally delicious, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. In short: We'll definitely be back!

I got the impression the server wasn't interested. It's not usually my style to check the bill, I don't know why. The bill was incorrect, but after I pointed it out, it was corrected immediately.

Unfortunately, our visit was anything but pleasant. We had to approach the waiters ourselves every time we wanted to order anything – whether drinks, food, or dessert. No one came to our table on their own initiative. Even at the end, we had to specifically ask for the table to be cleared. One or two of the waiters also seemed quite grumpy, and after we paid, there wasn't even a friendly word or a "Have a nice evening." It was a real shame – overall, the staff seemed stressed and not very welcoming. The food was also far too salty. It was a real pity, and we wouldn't be coming back.

The occasion was to go out for a nice meal on my birthday. It was the first time and unfortunately also the last. As one lady wrote, I can confirm that I wasn't really welcome! I reserved a table... the older waiter was unfriendly and told me to sit wherever I wanted. :/ While I was finishing my last bite, the table was already being cleared... I thought I was dreaming! Not a single friendly word! Nothing of the sort. Was it just such a bad day today? Despite the good reviews online? Very strange. But okay, I'm one experience richer, and the food was plentiful but nothing special. Better less, but better quality! It can be done better; I'd much rather go to a place with friendliness, etc. And those places do exist!

We are disappointed... we had booked a table for my wife's birthday. I know the place from way back when, and we were looking forward to a great meal. It's hard to believe... the good old days and quality are gone. Food: Frozen Leipziger Allerlei (a type of mixed greens) from 2025 is the absolute worst and simply unacceptable today. Poor quality fries, etc. Service: The staff were disinterested, unmotivated, and unfriendly. Plates were cleared while the customer was still eating... unacceptable! (DEHOGA) We felt like we were in the wrong movie... Even though time seems to have stood still... the staff certainly hasn't... friendly and attentive before... now lifeless. The general feeling at the birthday party was... whether we were guests there or not... with high prices for cheap ingredients, nobody really cared. We wanted to offer our guests traditional cuisine in the best Dortmund tradition. They were also bitterly disappointed. Quote: "If this is what Dortmund hospitality is supposed to be, then next time we'll please go somewhere else—somewhere where they actually welcome guests these days and offer them a decent experience." And there are good alternatives. This isn't a rant, just frank criticism from Dortmund. This simply isn't acceptable, because customer service and fresh cuisine will determine future success.

Unfortunately only 4 stars, we sat almost alone in the winter garden. After the starter and main course, no one asked for dessert and I or we found the cevapcici in the main course very tasteless.

The restaurant is older but clean and tidy. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, the medallion pot was definitely not a highlight. The sauce tasted watery, and the roast potatoes (instead of croquettes) were completely soggy and oily.

First-class service in a very good, rustic ambience. I have been regularly visiting Haus Prein for 20 years.

We arrived full of anticipation and were very disappointed when our cheerful, friendly waiter was no longer there. We were told he had moved to Zagreb, which is a real shame, as he was the only waiter who was passionate about his job. One consolation was that, thank God, there was another friendly waiter there; otherwise, everyone was a grump, especially the older ones! Which is a reason for us to avoid the restaurant for the foreseeable future.

I ate here with my family. The waiters were very inattentive and unfriendly. From the moment we arrived, they seemed annoyed and listless. We felt unwelcome. The food was okay, but nothing more. Dirty dishes were only cleared away when we asked. Bottom line: the guest is definitely not king here!

We came to the regulars' table with 20 people and had reserved outside seating. Suddenly, that wasn't possible; when we objected, we were told: We don't need you!

We dined at Restaurant Prein again. The dishes for five people weren't served together, but in two batches, five minutes apart. The sauce on the beef stroganoff wasn't spicy, but rather sweet. Instead of boiled potatoes, sliced ​​potatoes were served directly in the "mushy" sauce. The meat on the steak plate was lukewarm and had obviously been waiting for some time for the hot croquettes. The pork fillet was cooked hard and dry. The beef fillet was laced with tendons and very rare. The cordon bleu was okay. The waiter touched the glasses by the top rim, and there was old lipstick on one glass. We were disappointed with both the quality and the service, unlike previous visits. However, based on our previous experiences, we will give Restaurant Prein another chance to see if this was a slip-up. "Get well soon!"

We went out to dinner with family yesterday for a 70th birthday party. The steak plate was a disgrace. The beef fillet was a wafer-thin, shredded piece of meat with tendons. The pork fillet was very dry. The medallion pot with sauce was also very dry. The meat was full of gristle and very dry. The fried potatoes weren't crispy at all. The staff were very annoyed and unfriendly from the start. We felt like they were going to eat quickly, drink a lot, and then disappear.

If you don't have any special requirements, it's always been fine. Unfortunately, we've been severely disappointed twice. The waiter was rude. We waited over an hour for the food, it came cold, and the meat wasn't fillet. I had to sit in the back so my leg disability wouldn't bother the other guests, even though we had reserved a seat up front two weeks in advance. It's impossible; they'll never see us again.

Here, the host is king, and the guest must obey. In perfect weather, on a Tuesday with relatively low occupancy and free tables outside, we were asked to sit inside. A waiter wasn't interested in our request, and the manager then gave me a hard time. We left and won't be back. The service was beyond arrogant.

However, my wife found the waiter's flirtatious behavior inappropriate, just because she was out to eat without her husband, which led her to express a desire to settle the bill and leave the restaurant. But my wife only pulled herself together for the sake of her parents. 😠😔😥 The roughness with Madame and one of the longest chocolates will be free, please. To the boss, hold back your waiters. I was there again just yesterday. Very good food and fast, friendly service. Those who prefer a more rustic setting can sit in the "classic" section; those who prefer a brighter setting can head to the conservatory. Very nice outdoor area and plenty of parking.

Despite having a reservation, we had to find a table, which we then had to clear. The food took an hour after ordering and was mediocre at best. Waiters served drinks over their shoulders from behind us, interrupting our meal. Outside, you could see the chef smoking with his gloves on – it makes you absolutely not want to go back. What a shame! We won't be back!

Very delicious food, classically pleasant and unobtrusive service, the ambiance is a positive throwback to the restaurants of the 90s on an Adriatic holiday. Pancakes are a childhood dream: here, too, for your own children with a sweet tooth, although they will likely remain happily undecided about the topping. Meat is a given on the menu and is presented as a quality dish. Overall, a rich selection, pleasantly down-to-earth and unpretentious: you'll gladly return.

I wanted to celebrate my birthday here today. But I wasn't the only one. Another group, also celebrating, played unbearably loud music the entire time, apparently with the owners' approval. We couldn't exchange a single word. The food was good, but the overall experience was terrible.

Das Lokal kennen wir seit ca 18 Jahren und waren dort bis auf die letzten 3 Jahre regelmäßig Essen Die Kellner waren wirklich nett und Aufmerksam,das Essen war eine Zumutung. Grillteller und Krüstchen bestellt. Pommes ,als wenn noch mal warm gemacht . Das Fleisch eine Zumutung die völlig lieblose Deko auf dem Teller Überflüssig und nicht schön anzusehen,das Salatbuffet ohne Worte .Schnitzel völlig trocken. Das war der letzte Besuch in diesem Lokal Leider keine weitere Empfehlungen mehr Sehr Enttäuschend.....

The food was okay, but nothing more. The waiter, however, seemed very listless; he didn't even ask if everything was okay. What we found completely unacceptable was the waiter standing on the terrace among the guests, smoking. You just don't do that in front of guests.

Not recommended.....The food is in no way restaurant quality. A soup of the day recommended by the waiter turned out to be hot water with a very thin stock cube, valued at €0.30. In a restaurant I expect a properly cooked soup/stock and not a stock cube. The grilled plate for €22.50 had an estimated value of €1.25 and consisted of 3 long rolls of minced meat, a pork cutlet, a small piece of meat (indistinguishable), probably beef, a roughly chopped piece of liver that was inadequately trimmed, stringy and tough, and a piece of bacon with eyes of cartilaginous meat. Buried under this almost tasteless meat, which was cooked beyond all expectations, were a handful of soggy chips in tomato-dried rice. The fiasco was topped off by the garnish, which consisted of a very rotten lettuce leaf and a notched slice of raw carrot with no seasoning. The plate, although large, was unrestrainedly overloaded and not very appetisingly presented. The Aiwa also smelled and tasted old and a bit musty. According to the friendly waiter, the best comes last: a lukewarm schnapps that had nothing to do with schnapps and was served on the house (undrinkable). Well, what can I say? It ranged from substitution to complete ignorance on the part of the kitchen staff. I don't think there's a chef at work there, more likely a group of toilet cleaners who don't even know the ingredients for hollandais sauce, let alone the technical skills to prepare it. The owner of this restaurant should curb his greed... because herb butter should also be made with butter as the main ingredient... What a shame, not even Meggele quality. All in all, lies and deception, not worth a visit... you can save yourself the €60 for two people. Start cooking instead of splashing around with inferior food. Not worth a second chance. A completely disappointed and disgusted guest of your restaurant trap

Anyone who likes meat will love it here. The food is consistently delicious - whether it's cevapcici, half and half or the schnitzel - everything is perfectly prepared and tastes great. Children are also well catered for. Both the children's portions and those for adults definitely won't leave anyone hungry. A real highlight is the number of waiters - absolutely above average. While in many restaurants you have to wait forever before you can reorder, here you feel well looked after. Drinks are served quickly and attentively, without having to wave. A waiter can sometimes be a bit rude (I was almost inclined to deduct a star for that), but this is more than made up for by another colleague - easily recognizable by his glasses: so friendly and warm that you immediately feel welcome. The excellently stocked salad bar also deserves recognition – fresh, varied and really tasty. All in all, a fabulous Croatian restaurant that should definitely be on your radar in Dortmund. It's just fun to eat here!

Einfach enttäuschend! Bereits mit der nicht auffindbaren Reservierung am Ostersonntag, fing das Desaster an. Plätze bekamen wir im total überhitzten Wintergarten. Tischdeko zu Ostern lieblos. Schnell bekamen wir die Speisekarten und unsere Getränkebestellung wurde unaufmerksam entgegen genommen, so das bei der Ausgabe etwas fehlte. Essen wurde nach der Bestellung zügig serviert. Wir hatten unterschiedliche Gerichte und es hat allen geschmeckt. Das Gemüse war al dente und die Kroketten matschig, aber ansonsten in Ordnung. Der Service war allerdings wirklich schlecht. 45 Minuten ohne Getränke. Null Aufmerksamkeit durch das Personal. Bodenlos wurde es dann bei der Rechnung. 2 Mal innerhalb von 35 Minuten, mit der Bitte getrennt/mit Karte/ Bar bezahlen zu dürfen, angefordert. Beim 3. Mal legte man uns dann wortlos den Beleg auf den Tisch. Nachdem wir dann schon forsch und auch wirklich genervt noch einmal darauf hingewiesen haben, dass wir getrennt und auch mit Karte bezahlen wollen, kam ein absolut freches provozierendes Grinsen vom Personal. Wir haben dann alles selber auseinander gerechnet und schockiert über so viel Unverschämtheit das Restaurant verlassen. Das kleine Schnäpschen und der Schokoriegel/Eis fürs Kind gibt es scheinbar auch nicht mehr. Traurig, dass man als Gast so wenig geschätzt wird!

If you just want to eat something small and maybe just drink beer, then you are not allowed in. The waiter looks at you as if you were something unworthy and then insults you: “There is no chip shop here”. That's how we felt after a hike and of course our mood was gone. We, with our great hiking clothes and vegetarians, were totally irritated by his behavior and left. We have seen so much of the world and eaten in all sorts of restaurants in the world, but we have never experienced anything like this. I can't say what the food is like there because we weren't allowed to get beer and fries there. The customer is king, but not in this restaurant.

A little old but the quality and service is still at a high level. We have been regular customers for over 30 years and the food has always tasted good. Keep it up.

Hello, I've been going to Haus Prein for over 50 years. My parents used to be regulars there. What is special is when the boss of the house greets you personally. We always enjoy going there. To eat, it's simply not as expensive as in other restaurants. Service is always attentive. I find the ambience to be very rustic in the old days. In the winter garden it is rather very spacious and impersonal. Lg

Ich hatte mich sehr auf das Wiener Schnitzel gefreut, das bisher bei Prein das Beste in der Gegend war. Aber dann bekam ich Bratkartoffeln, die offensichtlich vom Vortag waren und nur warm gemacht. Das Schnitzel war gut paniert, aber nicht zart. Ich bin ziemlich sicher es war kein Kalb. Kann ich aber nicht beweisen. ich habe ein Drittel des Schnitzels gegessen, die Kartoffeln nur probiert und erst bei der Rechnung gesagt, dass es nicht gut war. Antwort des Kellners: Das hätten sie eher sagen sollen. Ich wollte keinen Preisnachlass, ich wollte nur, dass es in der Küche gesagt wird. meine Begleitung war zufrieden mit ihrem Essen. Ich habe dann Salat gegessen. Der war einfach und frisch. Die Krönung war abends heftige Darmprobleme. Leider - nie wieder Prein für mich.

Here you get a decent portion for a fair price. The service staff is always friendly and attentive and the food is really good. On weekends you should definitely make a reservation, especially if you want to eat with several people.

Always my pleasure. It's a 70 km drive, so unfortunately we don't find time too often. Since 2018 we have been going regularly when time allows. When I was undergoing chemo, the separate room was prepared for us because the Leukos were in the basement. The staff is friendly and loving. The food is always good. I can't understand the reviews on trip advisor. If you order a pork schnitzel, you should be happy that you don't get any dark meat. We've never had a problem with the food there.

Die männliche Bedienung war vor Unfreundlichkeit kaum zu toppen. Beim Tausch von Beilagen hätte ich keine Chance. Die Folienkartoffel war leider die geschmacklich Schlechteste überhaupt. Vollkommen verkocht und die Soße leider auch nicht besonders schmackhaft. Lediglich der Salat vom Salatbuffet war OK.

Years ago we were there with our regulars once a month. Food, service was good. But yesterday, August 31, 2024, was a complete disaster. Service 🤨 you should work on it. The icing on the cake was when the food was served. My little crust, it's a shame no photo, Panarde was still raw, 5 champions, 1egg. Fries not cooked through. The rest of the acquaintances were eating grilled plates and hanging and choking. The chef generally works without salt in the kitchen and there was nothing to be seen at the table. We're not really spoiled, and we've been running a restaurant ourselves for over 50 years. But we wouldn't have had anything like yesterday. It's a shame we thought we had a place to go again🫣 but we can do without that. I like to give tips generously. But this time it wasn't a whole €.

Delicious crusts with the best fried potatoes and salad at the self-determination buffet for a fair price (under €21). I often ate there in the early 90s and it's still home-style and not over-the-top, just the way we like it. Service was always precise, polite, but not particularly warm. At the end, when we wanted to pay the good €5 tip in cash and the bill with card/mobile phone, we were a bit shouted at: "I'll have to get the reader then." The guests behind us also paid by card, so at least the waiter didn't have to go twice. It's a shame for this moment, especially because you grew up there and have known and visited the store for 30 years, so a point is deducted for service. Food was very good. Ambience also nice, outside by the pond. Toilets were also clean and everything was fine. Mixed, pleasant crowd, from private, quiet family celebrations, to nice male bachelors saying goodbye to couples at the next tables. Pleasant atmosphere

I've been coming here for years but now you can't beat the impudence of a waiter because if you give a tip it's quick or you'll be treated badly, that's a loss of reputation to the Renic family and they should be fired. That's not acceptable!! You should publish it in the newspaper until someone responds. Ambience is way outdated.
