Mowwe Restaurant & Café in Dortmund

The delivered goose was tough and looked dried out. For a dish costing over €38, I expect a decent meal. A disaster for meat lovers. The red cabbage was soggy and the dumplings were mediocre. Not recommended!

I can recommend it without hesitation. The atmosphere is lovely and cozy. The service is super friendly and fast.

We went to the Gänsemarsch restaurant on November 7th, 2025, with a group of eight. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table. The atmosphere was lovely 🤩 Despite the number of people, the noise level was extremely pleasant. The staff was incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive. The drinks, appetizers, main course, and dessert all arrived promptly. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. You could eat as much as you wanted! It's definitely worth a visit 🤗

It's nothing like it used to be. Completely overpriced, and the Jägerschnitzel was served with a sloppy ladleful of "Jägerbrei" (hunter's porridge) on the fries. What a shame, it used to be our absolute favorite restaurant.

A rustic atmosphere in an old farmhouse, a varied menu with good value for money, and very attentive service. There's nothing to complain about here!

We spent a lovely evening with good friends. The food 😋 was excellent. For me personally, the cod on pumpkin puree with three stalks of wild broccoli wasn't enough. Fortunately, I had a delicious onion soup beforehand and inherited one of the two schnitzels from my wife and a friend, which was also very tasty. Unfortunately, the roof made the dining room too dark. The waiter, Milan, was very attentive and always ready with an anecdote.

Yes, I can definitely recommend it. The service staff, in particular, were very prompt, attentive, and friendly! That's just how it should be. We were able to celebrate a wedding in the large hall, which was perfectly decorated and had a wonderful, cozy atmosphere.

5 stars plus after the renovation. We went to Mowwe for a coffee break in January this year. The cake could have come from the bakery, but what we found quite awful was that the waitress had to serve it with a name tag and country stamp. But thankfully, that's history, as we discovered last Saturday evening. They created a winter garden between the cafe and the barn. The barn was converted into a venue for a wedding. There's parking, a meadow with two wooden horses, accessible restrooms in the cafe, and a container toilet outside for the party guests. The menu is straightforward. Why 4* for food? There's no separate children's menu. It would be nice if there were one, and not just the "usual" kids' dishes like pasta, fries, and chicken nuggets. Something with broccoli or carrots would be great. At least something healthy. We can now recommend Mowwe again. Oh, and yes, there's still a beer garden in front of the cafe.

I celebrated my birthday here in August with 25 people. Nothing was missing: the service, the food, the atmosphere—everything was very, very good. We always love coming back to this enchantingly located restaurant.

We held our wedding dinner at Haus Mowwe and were completely satisfied, despite the busy Saturday evening, which coincided with two celebrations. From the joint planning with Mr. Mowwe to the collaboration with the waiters, everything went smoothly. Everyone was very committed, and we felt in good hands throughout. Both the food and the ambiance were excellent, and the surroundings were the icing on the cake. Whether in the restaurant itself, in the more private barn at the rear, in the conservatory, in the large barn, or outside on the terrace: in our opinion, Haus Mowwe is one of the best restaurants in Dortmund and the surrounding area with its variety and offers many options for celebrating (the barn or the mill can serve as event locations, although the mill itself is not directly adjacent to the house). There's also something for the children if they want to play soccer on the lawn behind Haus Mowwe or in the sandbox. This way, even the little ones won't get bored. Therefore, our conclusion: 5 stars and thoroughly recommended. Thanks to Mr. Mowwe and all the staff.

Highly recommended! Wonderful location with a fantastic ambiance for a wedding! The service was always friendly and helpful. The food was exceptionally good. We celebrated with about 70 adults and 15 children.

There are plenty of parking spaces right next to and around the restaurant. The outdoor area in the conservatory is very spacious, well-maintained, and inviting. The waiter, Milan, is very prompt and friendly. He is very attentive and quick. If you come with small children, parents can sit in the conservatory in peace and watch their children play. A real gem! Highly recommended.

We always enjoy coming here! The (authentic) Wiener Schnitzel is a particular highlight, and the overall quality is just right – fresh, finely seasoned, and beautifully presented. The picture shows the crust, which is always delicious. We also really like the ambiance: stylishly decorated and pleasant to linger. It's especially nice on warm days when you can sit outside. One small downside: On several visits, we had the impression that some of the service staff were overwhelmed or seemed a bit annoyed. This somewhat tarnishes the otherwise very positive overall impression. Nevertheless, we continue to enjoy coming – because of the great food and the lovely atmosphere!

Well, there is definitely a lack of service staff. The boss could have helped but apparently didn't want to. We waited 30 minutes to even be able to order our drinks. We would have liked to eat more, but that wasn't possible because the waiter was completely overwhelmed. They wanted to let us know if and which cake 🍰 was still available........we're still waiting 😂😂😂. Afterwards we went to our trusted Greek 😜👍🏼.

We enjoyed incredibly delicious food made from regional products at Mowwe. The service is super friendly, the service is simply great! A clear recommendation from our side!! A reservation on the weekend (/in the summer) certainly makes sense here. But you can also stop here for a drink/cake on a bike tour, and we can also recommend this.

Food was okay, definitely not bad, but not incredibly great either. Service rather bad than good. Only came when asked and not once was we asked if we would like something else to drink. Nice atmosphere, bad service, very unfriendly staff, and the food doesn't taste good at all. Three pork medallions with asparagus and potatoes for just under €30: I just expect more... I would fire the chef! After complaining, there was a loud discussion with me... and then the asparagus was credited to me. First and last time there.

A really wonderful restaurant, with a great ambience. It is very nicely located. The staff is courteous, friendly and helpful. The food is to die for. Seasonal and regional. The environment is very beautiful and quiet. You also have the option to sit outside. There is a sandpit and a small soccer field (with balls). There is also a dedicated bicycle parking space in addition to a large, well-maintained parking lot. We celebrated my father's birthday and everyone was completely satisfied and full. There were four of us and we ate there as part of this year's menu carousel. We didn't know the place before and were thrilled. The food was absolutely delicious, the portions were big enough and the service (Mila) was very, very attentive. Afterwards everyone was given a free espresso. All in all, we were very satisfied and will definitely go on a bike tour there again.

The four of us stopped at this restaurant. Good thing we had reserved a table - the place was very busy. The waiter seemed very stressed and the first intake of the drinks took a little longer. The food came very quickly and the main courses all tasted really, really good. All wishes were taken into account. Thank you for that. We didn't like any of the dessert options. The “Kaiserschmarn” in particular was not recommended. All in all a great restaurant - next time I'll just have a main course. The service person may have just had a bad day. We'll be back.

Food was good, I had a Jägerschnitzel, the waffles from my wife, sister and brother-in-law were a bit too dry. It was very busy and the staff was overwhelmed. My schnitzel came after about 25 minutes, the waffles after about 50 minutes. Guests came after us and had their waffles before us. A drink didn't come at all. Ambiance is very nice, staff friendly.

Celebrated my birthday here last weekend. The Italian menu was a hit and everyone was very satisfied and full afterwards. Milan took great care of us. Will definitely come back and can only recommend this restaurant. Thank you for the great carefree and relaxing evening.

The food was great! We had deer and wild boar. The location is also really nice. In the past I have sometimes found the waitresses to be unfriendly and overwhelmed. But that is definitely no longer the case. So all in all, really recommended.

Today we did a big lap through the Kurler Busch and wanted to stop off at Mowwe. We were thrown out again right at the entrance because we had a dog with us. Completely empty restaurant, but good if you can afford to avoid dog walkers. I just think they should announce their hostility to dogs somewhere on the homepage, then you can look for another destination to stop by.

We went there for the first time on a recommendation. Now we will recommend it to others ☺️☺️again and again 👍👍👍

We celebrated our wedding there a few days ago in a small circle. We sat in a separate room which had an adjoining terrace and a very nice garden. We were given very good advice in advance about the choice of food and were able to put together a small menu for our guests. Everything was great! Service was very pleasant and attentive, everything was very clean and, above all, the food was very, very tasty! We had a company party with good food and fun for the children. The location was great.

By chance we stopped here on our bike tour and really enjoyed it, we sat on the terrace in the beautiful sunshine, the service lady with the black hair had a beloved Ruhrpot charm for us, that's exactly what we like, not fake!! The Mowwe Stammtisch Schnitzel with delicious fried potatoes and salad was awesome, that's how it tastes! Prices completely ok 👌 We would love to come back with friends 🙋🏻‍♀️🌞

A nice place to maybe drink a beer when you're cycling. But I won't eat there anymore. We ate there for the third time and the food is more like a snack, nothing has changed, only the prices for the rather poor food have increased like in the star restaurant. Simple schnitzel with chanterelle sauce and hash browns €26.70. Everything was as if it had been prepared in the deep fryer. The other dish was steak. We wanted it to be easy, so we got a shoe sole. So in short, the ambience is good, the food is bad.

We were there for the first time yesterday. Seems to be a very popular stopping point for cyclists (including special bicycle parking). There were still many cyclists in the restaurant around 7 p.m. We had reserved a table outside, between the barn and the restaurant. Unfortunately there is no sun there at that time, so you have to sit at the front of the street. Otherwise it's a lovely place to sit, in the middle of the fields in nature. Service and speed very good/fast (even though there was a larger event in the barn at the same time). The dishes were visually perfectly prepared. The portions are generous and, above all, very tasty. P.S.: For the afternoon guests (bicycle tourers) there are fresh waffles...
