Taverne Naxos in Mainz

Vorab, die Bewertung tut mir wirklich Leid. Wir waren gestern dort Essen und das auch das letzte Mal. Das Fleisch (Gyros) war völlig überwürzt und nicht mehr genießbar. Der Service war ok. Einrichtung könnte mal renoviert werden. Trotzdem weiterhin viel Erfolg

Leider waren wir insgesamt enttäuscht. Positiv hervorzuheben ist der Service, die freundlich, aufmerksam und zuvorkommend war. Das Essen konnte uns jedoch überhaupt nicht überzeugen. Die Qualität erinnerte eher an einen Imbiss als an ein Restaurant, dafür waren die Preise deutlich zu hoch. Besonders die Moussaka hatte mit einer klassischen Moussaka kaum etwas zu tun, und auch die Fleischqualität ließ zu wünschen übrig. Insgesamt stimmt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis aus unserer Sicht nicht. Für die aufgerufenen Preise hätten wir deutlich bessere Qualität und authentischere Gerichte erwartet. Schade.

Wir waren das zweite mal hier essen und es war jedes mal ein wunderschöner Abend. Das Essen ist der Wahnsinn und die Auswahl ist Mega, sogar die georgische Küche ist super lecker. In einem guten Restaurant sollte man einfach Zeit mitbringen und den Abend genießen, deshalb verstehe ich manche Kommentare nicht, ist halt leider die deutsche Kultur, essen und nachhause gehen. Wir sind zu viert aus Frankfurt angereist und waren absolut begeistert! Obwohl das Restaurant sehr voll war, gab es keinerlei Verzögerungen, was sehr angenehm war. Der Service war top: Ein junger Mann und eine junge Frau (Studenten) waren unglaublich freundlich und aufmerksam. ​Wie sich herausstellte, ist der Besitzer des Restaurants auch der Chefkoch, und er kocht einfach hervorragend. Das Essen hat uns direkt an Griechenland erinnert – alles war frisch und geschmacklich erstklassig. Später kam der Chef sogar persönlich an unseren Tisch, um sich mit uns zu unterhalten; er ist ein wirklich feiner und herzlicher Mensch. Die Atmosphäre in der Taverne ist sehr gemütlich und wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt. Wir kommen definitiv wieder und können diesen Ort jedem nur empfehlen!

Sehr teuer für das was man geboten bekommt. Das Essen kam nicht auf einmal an den Tisch, sondern über 15 Minuten verteilt und nicht vollständig. Bei 2 besetzten Tischen ist das ganz schlechter Service.

Grillplatte bestellt ohne Beilagen erhalten, auch auf Nachfrage sind wohl keine Beilagen nur Fleisch dabei, deshalb viel zu teuer und Personal weist auch nicht darauf hin das keine Beilagen dabei sind, sehr schlecht!

Essen war schlecht. Das war kein Gyros, sondern aufgetautes Fleisch, in der Pfanne fettig angebraten. Die Kartoffelscheiben waren viel zu fettig. Es gab keinen Salat zum Hauptgang. Viel Geld für schlechtes Essen!!! 😭 Kein Preis- Leistungsverhältnis.

Essen nicht gut nicht zu empfehlen

Es war alles leer kein Gast! Da ich keine Reservierung hatte wurde mir kein Platz angeboten. Ich soll reservieren wenn ich was will! Manche haben es scheinbar nicht nötig. Ich wäre in 30 min fertig gewesen aber es soll nicht so sein. Service Wüste Deutschland

Die Menge des Essens war für 23 € mäßig und die Qualität der Kartoffeln halb roh... Es schien dass die jungen Personen etwas überfordert waren. Aber es gibt ja für die Zukunft immer noch Verbesserung nach oben..

Eigentlich haben wir dieses Restaurant nur wegen des Namens ausgesucht um unsere Naxos-Mädelsreise vom letzten Jahr noch einmal Revue passieren zu lassen. Und wir müssen sagen, dass wir nicht enttäuscht wurden. Das Essen war super lecker, reichlich und der Service sehr aufmerksam und nett. Das wir zufällig auch noch georgische Gerichte auf der Karte hatten war der Knaller. Meine russischen Mädels waren begeistert. Das Ambiente ist einfach und gemütlich. Preise angemessen. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Die Esel- Damen sagen Dankeschön. ❤️

Das ist das beste griechische Restaurant, in dem wir je waren! Uns hat absolut alles gefallen: vom unglaublich leckeren Essen bis hin zur tollen Atmosphäre. Wir haben hier ein Geburtstagsessen genossen und es war einfach super. Ein riesiges Dankeschön an das Team für den herzlichen Empfang und den tollen Abend! Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Waren dort und sind das 1. Mal beim Essen gegangen. Uns war echt unangenehm zu sagen das man das Essen nicht Essen kann. Das Fleisch war für uns nicht essbar. Hatten Gyros was nicht frisch war. Das war nicht vom Spieß. Das Hackfleisch war nicht frisch. Tk Ware. Kartoffeln waren nicht durch. Es tut uns echt leid aber wer haut überall paprika pulver drauf. Haben dem lieben Kellner auch gesagt das er nichts dafür kann sondern der Koch. Da war nichts griechisch. Zaziki wurde ein Haufen drauf gemacht damit man wohl alles eintunken kann. Sorry so geht das nicht. Haben alles zurück gehen lassen und sind gegangen. Vielen dank an den jungen Kellner der uns nur die Getränke in Rechnung gestellt hat. Sorry. Macht es bitte besser dann hättet ihr auch das Restaurant voll.

Tadelloses Essen und fantastischer Service. Ein besonderes Lob an Nikolas: Danke, dass du mir gezeigt hast, wie viel man von einem 17-Jährigen übers Leben lernen kann. Die Taverne ist etwas sehr Besonderes in der Mainzer Altstadt. Die Innenausstattung erinnern an den Griechenland-Urlaub und das essen ist reichhaltig mit traditionellem Essen.

Das Essen ist köstlich und die Atmosphäre einfach großartig! Ich kann es nur empfehlen ❤️🙏👌

Die auch angebotenen georgischen Speisen sind sehr authentisch und sehr lecker!

Portionen sind sehr übersichtlich für die Preise.Drei von vier Essen kommen, auf das vierte mussten wir lange warten.Griechische Kartoffeln nicht knusprig.Zum Zaziki als Vorspeise gab es normales Brot statt Pittabrot.Geht gar nicht.Also wir waren einmal.dort das reicht auch. Schade

Wir waren eine Gruppe von 16 Personen im griechischen Restaurant Taverna Naxos in Mainz für unsere Weihnachtsfeier. Das Essen war unglaublich frisch, köstlich und wirklich sehr lecker. Insgesamt war es eine richtig tolle Erfahrung. Wir empfehlen es definitiv weiter – wegen des frischen Essens, des tollen Services und allem drum und dran!

Wir waren heute mit einer Gruppe von 17 Personen hier. Alle waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Essen und dem Service. Besonders gut haben uns zwei Gerichte gefallen: das griechische Souvlaki, perfekt zubereitet und sehr saftig, sowie das georgische Adjaruli Khachapuri, frisch und geschmackvoll. Auch die Vorspeise „Naxos Platte war sehr gut und schön angerichtet. Das georgische Wein hat den Abend perfekt abgerundet. Ein tolles Restaurant für größere Gruppen. Guten Appetit!!!:) Naxos Team“ Liebes Naxos-Team, vielen Dank für die handgeschriebene Nachricht, die Sie zusammen mit unserem 40 Minuten verspäteten Essen geliefert haben. Ich möchte klarstellen, dass es nicht unser Lieferant war (wir besitzen schließlich keine Mitarbeiter…), und Ihre Nachricht war auch in keiner Weise hilfreich. Das Essen war natürlich kalt, als es ankam, und ja, die 40-minütige Verspätung hat unseren zweijährigen Jahrestag etwas getrübt. Da wir ein Baby haben, konnten wir das Haus nicht verlassen – also dachten wir, wir bestellen in dem Restaurant, in dem wir uns früher kennengelernt haben. Tja, das werden wir wohl nie wieder tun. Kleiner Tipp: Wenn ein Lieferant wieder einmal zu spät kommt: Zeigen Sie etwas Verständnis (für den Lieferanten und die Wartenden) und anstatt sich darüber zu freuen, bringen Sie einfach noch eine Portion Tzatziki vorbei. Unser Besuch in diesem griechischen Restaurant war leider in jeder Hinsicht enttäuschend. Wir waren eine Gruppe von 15 Personen und hatten uns wirklich auf einen gemütlichen Abend gefreut -vergebens. Zum Essen: Das Essen war für die gesamte Gruppe ein großer Reinfall. Besonders das Fleisch, eigentlich ein Highlight der griechischen Küche, war von miserabler Qualität. Es war speckig, zäh und kaum genießbar – einige Stücke waren sogar so durchwachsen und hart, dass man sie kaum schneiden konnte. Mehrere Gerichte wirkten lieblos zubereitet, teilweise lauwarm serviert und ohne den typischen Geschmack, den man von einem guten Griechen kennt. Keiner von uns – wirklich niemand – konnte sein Gericht mit Genuss essen. Zum Service: Der Service war ebenfalls eine große Enttäuschung. Obwohl das Restaurant nicht überfüllt war, zeigte das Personal kaum Interesse an uns. Leere Gläser und Teller blieben ewig auf dem Tisch stehen; teilweise sammelten sich mehrere benutzte Teller vor uns, ohne dass auch nur ein Blick vom Servicepersonal kam. Zwischendurch mussten wir mehrfach aktiv nachfragen, ob man uns etwas abnehmen oder neue Getränke bringen könne – doch auch darauf erfolgte die Reaktion nur schleppend. Freundlichkeit oder Aufmerksamkeit sucht man hier vergeblich. Atmosphäre & Gesamteindruck: Der Gesamteindruck war dadurch ausgesprochen negativ. Statt eines angenehmen Abends blieb das Gefühl, eher zur Last zu fallen. Die Kombination aus schlechtem Essen, mangelnder Organisation und unprofessionellem Auftreten des Personals machte es für uns alle zu einem wirklich enttäuschenden Besuch. Fazit: Dieses Restaurant können wir leider nicht weiterempfehlen. Bei 15 Personen, die alle unzufrieden waren, ist das kein Einzelfall mehr, sondern ein klarer Hinweis auf grundlegende Probleme in Küche und Service. Sehr schade – wir hatten uns viel mehr erhofft.

Der Krautsalat war gut. Mein Fleisch auf dem Philadelfiateller ist zum 2.Mal in der Küche gestorben. Das Gyros war okay. Die Hähnchenspiesse bei meiner Frau waren kalt. Personal ist grundsätzlich freundlich, läuft aber durch das Lokal: Sprechen mich bloß nicht an.

We have a lot of experience with restaurants and enjoy eating Greek food a lot... The price-performance ratio at Naxos is just not right! On top of that, the food was far too greasy, and the young waitress seemed to have never heard of the term "side salad." They should offer only Georgian cuisine; maybe that would work better...

We ate at Naxos with a large group on April 12th. We had made a reservation two days in advance. Unfortunately, the way we were treated there was truly appalling. The main courses arrived extremely late, some of us had already finished eating when others hadn't even received their food yet. On top of that, some of the ordered dishes were missing (pita bread, Metaxa sauce), and when we asked for them, they reacted irritably and were only served much later. Drinks that were ordered didn't arrive at all, and after asking again, they were placed at the end of the table with a look of extreme annoyance and a huff, and left there without a word. I've never experienced anything like that before. The food was actually mostly delicious, but thanks to the service, we won't be going there again.

Two of us were there in the evening. We were actually surprised by the selection of Georgian cuisine. Incredibly delicious! We also ordered Greek food, which was also delicious. We each had two wines to go with it: red and white. Both were very tasty. The service was also very friendly, and even though we ordered a lot, it arrived quickly and was super hot and fresh. I definitely recommend it :)

I have no idea why Uber Eats can't post anything about this. It's absolutely outrageous: €70 for this amount. The taste was fine, nothing special. Some of the meat was burnt. €70???? How is that possible? No drinks, just the food!!

As a tourist from Ukraine, I was pleasantly surprised that the staff at Taverne Naxos spoke Ukrainian — it made the experience even more welcoming. The service was excellent, prices were fair, and the cosy atmosphere made it a perfect spot to unwind. Highly recommend!

I’m from Latvia and travel often, but I haven’t felt this kind of warmth and authenticity in a restaurant in over five years. Taverne Naxos truly touched me — from the incredibly kind service to the cosy, welcoming atmosphere, everything felt genuine and from the heart. The pricing was honest, the food delicious, and the whole experience reminded me why I love discovering places like this. A special memory I’ll carry with me for a long time.

A wonderful evening in Naxos! We visited Naxos yesterday with the whole family and were thrilled. The food was not only delicious, but also authentically Greek – you can taste the quality and attention to detail. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the latest reviews. We were last here about 1.5 years ago, and it was definitely one of, if not the, best Greek restaurants in Mainz. Our expectations back then were disappointed. Apparently, the owners have changed (according to other reviews), but the name remains the same. [Food] The food has significantly deteriorated. The olives as an appetizer have improved, while the main course of gyros (supposedly of lower quality than before) and the fries/potato slices (which used to be nice and crispy but are now rather greasy and soft) have deteriorated. [Value for Money] The prices have increased, which would be understandable given rising purchasing prices, if the quality hadn't declined at the same time. [Service] I miss the old server (I assume the wife of the chef at the time?), who was friendly. The new server/waitress doesn't seem as well-coordinated, but is friendly. The ouzo at the end, which was offered back then, wasn't available. I really hate doing this, but it just wasn't enough to tip. [Conclusion] Ultimately, you get full and it's okay, but it's just a shame about the loss. Since Georgian dishes are now also offered, I don't understand why they don't completely change and present themselves as a Georgian restaurant, because Georgian cuisine is really good, and assuming the chef is Georgian who wants to express his passion, that would be the best solution.

The food is outrageous for the price and has no connection to Greek cuisine. We believe this restaurant simply adopted the name "Naxos" from the previous owners to also inherit their very good reviews on Google! You should definitely read the owners' rude and unprofessional responses on Google when you criticize before becoming a guest! Furthermore, it's quite surprising that the newer and very good reviews here are exclusively from users, each with only one rating. This looks like abuse or fake. We don't recommend it, PLEASE AVOID! UPDATE 07/14/2025: AT LEAST THE OWNERS HAVE DELETED THE CHEEKY AND UNQUALIFIED COMMENTS ABOUT THE BAD REVIEWS HERE AND INSTALLED THEM WITH "THANK YOU!" WHETHER THE FOOD AND THE EXPENSIVE PRICES WILL IMPROVE REmains to be seen! WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK, AND WE DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!

The food here is absolutely delicious — full of flavor and really well-prepared. The atmosphere is cozy and pleasant, and the service is also very good. The staff are nice, friendly, and make you feel welcome. I highly recommend this place!

Shame on you! Shame on this once-good restaurant, now run by people who are just as unpleasant in person as they appear in the reviews here. No capacity for criticism, no knowledge of German or English, and abysmally poor service coupled with, at best, mediocre food. The whole thing is, of course, even more enjoyable with a price tag of around €20 per main course. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment. You'll get more for half the price at any bistro.

Fantastic fresh food, great value, very friendly service

Well, overall, not bad, but there's still room for improvement. The chairs outside aren't particularly comfortable, and cutlery often falls through the gaps on the wooden table (I dropped it three times 🙄). This could be solved with a tablecloth. First came the menu, drink, food, and then the cutlery. With the meal, I would have expected a small side salad, like at many other Greek restaurants. The ouzo afterward was good 😉 The additional menu with Georgian dishes didn't bother me at all. However, the price for a regular portion of gyros, around €20, was extremely steep. Update after the owner's very unfriendly response: If you can't even begin to handle criticism, you'll only get one star from me. You're a service provider, but you're far from that. No second chance for you, so I'll recommend not going there...

There used to be a very good Greek restaurant here. Now, however, the restaurant is run by non-Greeks who actually want to serve Georgian cuisine. They already do so to some extent, and they could certainly do it well in its entirety. Why they still maintain the Greek veneer despite the lack of passion and experience is a mystery. The service quickly becomes overwhelmed, even with a small number of guests. Definitely not recommended for Greeks.

I was here today and was very pleased with the food and service. I also want to mention the variety and quality of the Georgian and Greek dishes served at this restaurant. We will definitely be back!

There was little sense of the advertised tavern atmosphere here, as the entire team spoke neither English nor German. The staff clearly had difficulty taking our order. After receiving our drinks after about 20 minutes, our food order failed due to a request to add simple vegetables to a main course. The visibly nervous waiter assured us that he had repeatedly asked the chef whether this was possible, but the final answer was "No, it's not possible." Instead, we were repeatedly reminded that there were salads on the menu. The food was ultimately only okay. The service, on the other hand, was very disappointing. The price bears no relation to what you get.

My impression of the food at Naxos is a little mixed, because we chose Georgian food - the starter (grilled eggplant) was delicious and the main course (braised chicken thighs) was too - BUT there was very little meat on the chicken thigh and the bread that was served with the meal was simple sliced ​​bread from a discount store - that had a somewhat negative impact on the impression.

Insider tip! Cozy, Greek atmosphere with excellent service and delicious Georgian cuisine! I have been to Naxos Mainz three times now and have been completely thrilled every time. The food was fresh, authentic and incredibly tasty every time. Today there was a nice surprise: In addition to the tried and tested Greek menu, there is now also a new Georgian menu. The Georgian dishes are a great addition and bring a breath of fresh air to the culinary offering - highly recommended! A great combination that you don't find everywhere. Everything we tried was outstanding. We sat outside on the terrace, enjoyed the evening in a relaxed atmosphere and noticed the good atmosphere all around. The restaurant was well attended - another sign of the quality and popularity of this place. The owner is very personable and has a good sense of hospitality. I'll definitely come back!

I strongly advise you to read the other reviews and also read the landlady's rude answers. About our visit: The service is terrible! The waitresses were listless and could hardly understand you. You also had to order an ouzo yourself. Very unusual for a Greek restaurant. This is probably because the restaurant is not run by Greeks but by Eastern Europeans. The food is very expensive and the portions were very small. It was also clearly warmed frozen food. Only the lettuce leaf was fresh here. Only the Georgian food on offer was delicious. Maybe it's better to focus on that and not offer Greek food. If you want Greek food, you should definitely go somewhere else!

I followed a recommendation and found Georgian food! Great. Finally in Mainz, finally authentic and very tasty. Just the Georgian red wine. Once you've been to Georgia, you get to know and love this great cuisine. Therefore I will definitely recommend this place.

Previously one of the best Greeks in Mainz, unfortunately disappointing today. We were there with friends and ordered, among other things: the grill plate for two people (for just under €50). What was served was a very small portion of gyros, two tiny dollops of tzatziki and a total of six pieces of meat - two each of lamb, chicken and pork. Unfortunately, the meat was dry, over-seasoned and the taste was far removed from what we had previously experienced here. The ambience is okay, the service was friendly and attentive as always - that wasn't the problem. But the price-performance ratio wasn't right at all today. Everyone at the table was disappointed with the food - and we say that as previous regulars who have always appreciated the quality and portion size. Maybe it was a bad day - maybe. But if such an impression remains, the inhibition threshold for visiting again is high. Very unfortunate.

We were eating there with friends today, the waitress was totally awkward and overwhelmed because we came with 2 children and there was only one child seat available. Food was so-so and the prices were crazy. My husband had a loveless grilled plate for 45 euros, the meat was completely fried and over-seasoned, the rice was overcooked and overall a blatant disappointment for the price. Unfortunately we won't eat there again.

There were two of us, we ate 2 starters and 2 main courses. The food was really very tasty. Large portions, we didn't finish everything, but you can have it packed. Very nice service. We'd love to come back.

Just disappointing - I've never experienced anything like it! We were there on April 12th. at Naxos in Mainz and just wanted to have a nice evening. Instead, we were treated unkindly on the phone - and things continued like that on site. We weren't even properly greeted, just left standing there even though there were hardly any guests there. We waited 10 minutes for the drinks menu. Another 10 minutes for the drinks – there were only four of us! After that the operation disappeared completely again. No food order, no look, not a word. After waiting for over 30 minutes, we just left – disappointed, hungry and really pissed. I don't know whether the waitress was simply having a bad day or whether guests are generally not taken seriously here. But one thing is clear: we will never come back. 0/5 – I would give negative points if I could. That was the first and last time.

Hmm, I don't know what to think of that. We were looking forward to a Greek restaurant in Mainz and were dazzled by the 4.6 Google points. Greek imiglikios did not have Georgian wine. Service was nice but German was weak. Starter good. Meat dishes very strange and not particularly tasty. Standard side dishes such as fries or baked potatoes are missing. Everything is strange. Overall, I don't know what to think of it. To avoid misunderstandings, of course we didn't want to test the waitress's knowledge of German. Georgian wine instead of Greek imiglikios is strange here. We've probably already been to 50 Greek restaurants in Germany. Many of them are already being successfully run by a committed family in the second or third generation. This was a different kind of experience.

This place is a real gem! Although Naxos is a Greek restaurant, they now also serve a Georgian menu - and I must say it is absolutely delicious! Each dish is an explosion of flavor - fresh ingredients, authentic spices, perfectly seasoned meats and brilliant khachapuri that you simply have to try. I also liked the friendly service, the lady recommended delicious dishes. We will definitely come back - and more than once!

Since the change of ownership, the quality has deteriorated significantly. The service is ok, but seems overwhelmed. Moussaka had no eggplant, "garlic bread" was garlic butter bagutte from the supermarket/metro that was briefly fried. Bifteki soggy and not tasty. It's a shame, Naxos used to be the best Greek restaurant in Mainz. Also, €100 for two adults and two small children is very expensive, even in the city center.

Classic Greek restaurant with the usual selection of dishes. The quality of the food is still good, but the prices are very expensive and the portions have become very small. There is a deduction for the service, which understands almost no German. Questions or requests for changes were therefore initially rejected. Finally the chef came, who understood the request in English and took it into account.

Tasty food, nice atmosphere, wonderful placement -- not far from Rhein, close to centre

I had my first dinner in Germany and the seafood menu was very delicious. I forgot my wallet, but when I went there the next day, the friendly owner said he wanted to find it for me, but he didn't have any contact information, so he gave it to me right away. It was a day where I was moved by his honesty and kind heart.

I went there for dinner with a friend. The food was very, very tasty, the portions are generous and the service is friendly and accommodating. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back!
