I have no idea why Uber Eats can't post anything about this. It's absolutely outrageous: €70 for this amount. The taste was fine, nothing special. Some of the meat was burnt. €70???? How is that possible? No drinks, just the food!!

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome, spoke many languages from English, German, Russian, Polish and Ukrainian, the service was warm, friendly, and attentive without ever being overbearing. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the overall portions. As a tourist from Ireland, I couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience than at Taverne Naxos. A wonderful evening in Naxos! We visited Naxos yesterday with the whole family and were thrilled. The food was not only delicious, but also authentically Greek – you can taste the quality and attention to detail. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the latest reviews. We were last here about 1.5 years ago, and it was definitely one of, if not the, best Greek restaurants in Mainz. Our expectations back then were disappointed. Apparently, the owners have changed (according to other reviews), but the name remains the same. [Food] The food has significantly deteriorated. The olives as an appetizer have improved, while the main course of gyros (supposedly of lower quality than before) and the fries/potato slices (which used to be nice and crispy but are now rather greasy and soft) have deteriorated. [Value for Money] The prices have increased, which would be understandable given rising purchasing prices, if the quality hadn't declined at the same time. [Service] I miss the old server (I assume the wife of the chef at the time?), who was friendly. The new server/waitress doesn't seem as well-coordinated, but is friendly. The ouzo at the end, which was offered back then, wasn't available. I really hate doing this, but it just wasn't enough to tip. [Conclusion] Ultimately, you get full and it's okay, but it's just a shame about the loss. Since Georgian dishes are now also offered, I don't understand why they don't completely change and present themselves as a Georgian restaurant, because Georgian cuisine is really good, and assuming the chef is Georgian who wants to express his passion, that would be the best solution.

We were extremely disappointed with the food, the service, and the exorbitant prices. We were annoyed that we hadn't read the reviews beforehand. The food is outrageous for the price and has no connection to Greek cuisine. We believe this restaurant simply adopted the name "Naxos" from the previous owners to also inherit their very good reviews on Google! You should definitely read the owners' rude and unprofessional responses on Google when you criticize before becoming a guest! Furthermore, it's quite surprising that the newer and very good reviews here are exclusively from users, each with only one rating. This looks like abuse or fake. We don't recommend it, PLEASE AVOID! UPDATE 07/14/2025: AT LEAST THE OWNERS HAVE DELETED THE CHEEKY AND UNQUALIFIED COMMENTS ABOUT THE BAD REVIEWS HERE AND INSTALLED THEM WITH "THANK YOU!" Shame on you! Shame on this once-good restaurant, now run by people who are just as unpleasant in person as they appear in the reviews here. No capacity for criticism, no knowledge of German or English, and abysmally poor service coupled with, at best, mediocre food. The whole thing is, of course, even more enjoyable with a price tag of around €20 per main course. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment. You'll get more for half the price at any bistro.

Well, overall, not bad, but there's still room for improvement. The chairs outside aren't particularly comfortable, and cutlery often falls through the gaps on the wooden table (I dropped it three times 🙄). This could be solved with a tablecloth. First came the menu, drink, food, and then the cutlery. With the meal, I would have expected a small side salad, like at many other Greek restaurants. The ouzo afterward was good 😉 The additional menu with Georgian dishes didn't bother me at all. However, the price for a regular portion of gyros, around €20, was extremely steep. Update after the owner's very unfriendly response: If you can't even begin to handle criticism, you'll only get one star from me. You're a service provider, but you're far from that. No second chance for you, so I'll recommend not going there...

There was little sense of the advertised tavern atmosphere here, as the entire team spoke neither English nor German. The staff clearly had difficulty taking our order. After receiving our drinks after about 20 minutes, our food order failed due to a request to add simple vegetables to a main course. The visibly nervous waiter assured us that he had repeatedly asked the chef whether this was possible, but the final answer was "No, it's not possible." Instead, we were repeatedly reminded that there were salads on the menu. The food was ultimately only okay. The service, on the other hand, was very disappointing. The price bears no relation to what you get.

There used to be a very good Greek restaurant here. Now, however, the restaurant is run by non-Greeks who actually want to serve Georgian cuisine. They already do so to some extent, and they could certainly do it well in its entirety. Why they still maintain the Greek veneer despite the lack of passion and experience is a mystery. The service quickly becomes overwhelmed, even with a small number of guests. Definitely not recommended for Greeks.

I was here today and was very pleased with the food and service. I also want to mention the variety and quality of the Georgian and Greek dishes served at this restaurant. We will definitely be back!

My impression of the food at Naxos is a little mixed, because we chose Georgian food - the starter (grilled eggplant) was delicious and the main course (braised chicken thighs) was too - BUT there was very little meat on the chicken thigh and the bread that was served with the meal was simple sliced ​​bread from a discount store - that had a somewhat negative impact on the impression.

I have been to Naxos Mainz three times now and have been completely thrilled every time. The food was fresh, authentic and incredibly tasty every time. Today there was a nice surprise: In addition to the tried and tested Greek menu, there is now also a new Georgian menu. The Georgian dishes are a great addition and bring a breath of fresh air to the culinary offering - highly recommended! A great combination that you don't find everywhere. Everything we tried was outstanding. We sat outside on the terrace, enjoyed the evening in a relaxed atmosphere and noticed the good atmosphere all around. The restaurant was well attended - another sign of the quality and popularity of this place. The owner is very personable and has a good sense of hospitality. I'll definitely come back!

I strongly advise you to read the other reviews and also read the landlady's rude answers. About our visit: The service is terrible! The waitresses were listless and could hardly understand you. You also had to order an ouzo yourself. Very unusual for a Greek restaurant. This is probably because the restaurant is not run by Greeks but by Eastern Europeans. The food is very expensive and the portions were very small. It was also clearly warmed frozen food. Only the lettuce leaf was fresh here. Only the Georgian food on offer was delicious. Maybe it's better to focus on that and not offer Greek food. If you want Greek food, you should definitely go somewhere else!

I followed a recommendation and found Georgian food! Great. Finally in Mainz, finally authentic and very tasty. Just the Georgian red wine. Once you've been to Georgia, you get to know and love this great cuisine. Therefore I will definitely recommend this place.

Previously one of the best Greeks in Mainz, unfortunately disappointing today. We were there with friends and ordered, among other things: the grill plate for two people (for just under €50). What was served was a very small portion of gyros, two tiny dollops of tzatziki and a total of six pieces of meat - two each of lamb, chicken and pork. Unfortunately, the meat was dry, over-seasoned and the taste was far removed from what we had previously experienced here. The ambience is okay, the service was friendly and attentive as always - that wasn't the problem. But the price-performance ratio wasn't right at all today. Everyone at the table was disappointed with the food - and we say that as previous regulars who have always appreciated the quality and portion size. Maybe it was a bad day - maybe. But if such an impression remains, the inhibition threshold for visiting again is high. Very unfortunate.

We were eating there with friends today, the waitress was totally awkward and overwhelmed because we came with 2 children and there was only one child seat available. Food was so-so and the prices were crazy. My husband had a loveless grilled plate for 45 euros, the meat was completely fried and over-seasoned, the rice was overcooked and overall a blatant disappointment for the price. Unfortunately we won't eat there again.

Just disappointing - I've never experienced anything like it! We were there on April 12th. at Naxos in Mainz and just wanted to have a nice evening. Instead, we were treated unkindly on the phone - and things continued like that on site. We weren't even properly greeted, just left standing there even though there were hardly any guests there. We waited 10 minutes for the drinks menu. Another 10 minutes for the drinks – there were only four of us! After that the operation disappeared completely again. No food order, no look, not a word. After waiting for over 30 minutes, we just left – disappointed, hungry and really pissed. I don't know whether the waitress was simply having a bad day or whether guests are generally not taken seriously here. But one thing is clear: we will never come back. 0/5 – I would give negative points if I could. That was the first and last time.

Hmm, I don't know what to think of that. We were looking forward to a Greek restaurant in Mainz and were dazzled by the 4.6 Google points. Greek imiglikios did not have Georgian wine. Service was nice but German was weak. Starter good. Meat dishes very strange and not particularly tasty. Standard side dishes such as fries or baked potatoes are missing. Everything is strange. Overall, I don't know what to think of it. To avoid misunderstandings, of course we didn't want to test the waitress's knowledge of German. Georgian wine instead of Greek imiglikios is strange here. We've probably already been to 50 Greek restaurants in Germany. Many of them are already being successfully run by a committed family in the second or third generation. This was a different kind of experience.

This place is a real gem! Although Naxos is a Greek restaurant, they now also serve a Georgian menu - and I must say it is absolutely delicious! Each dish is an explosion of flavor - fresh ingredients, authentic spices, perfectly seasoned meats and brilliant khachapuri that you simply have to try. I also liked the friendly service, the lady recommended delicious dishes. We will definitely come back - and more than once!

Since the change of ownership, the quality has deteriorated significantly. The service is ok, but seems overwhelmed. Moussaka had no eggplant, "garlic bread" was garlic butter bagutte from the supermarket/metro that was briefly fried. Bifteki soggy and not tasty. It's a shame, Naxos used to be the best Greek restaurant in Mainz. Also, €100 for two adults and two small children is very expensive, even in the city center.

Classic Greek restaurant with the usual selection of dishes. The quality of the food is still good, but the prices are very expensive and the portions have become very small. There is a deduction for the service, which understands almost no German. Questions or requests for changes were therefore initially rejected. Finally the chef came, who understood the request in English and took it into account.

I had my first dinner in Germany and the seafood menu was very delicious. I forgot my wallet, but when I went there the next day, the friendly owner said he wanted to find it for me, but he didn't have any contact information, so he gave it to me right away. Seit vielen Jahren besuchen wir das Naxos und waren immer sehr zufrieden! Dieses Mal hatten wir um die 10 Freunde guten Gewissens zum Abendessen dorthin verführt. Offensichtlich hat der Betreiber (Besitzer-) wechsel dem Restaurant nicht gut getan!!! Das Essen wurde teilweise falsch geliefert, war aber im Großen und Ganzen soweit okay. Bei den Grtränken gab es einige Komplikationen, die wohl auf sprachlichen Problemen zurück zu führen waren. Falschlieferungen in größerer Anzahl(!) haben für Diskussionen gesorgt, die wohl mit dem elektronischen Abrechnungssystem zusammen hingen!!! Sei es drum, man ist ja sehr wohl und flexibel gestimmt. Um so mehr wurden wir dadurch verärgert, daß mehrere Getränke im Nachhinein abgerechnet wurden, die wir nicht hatten (mehr als 16 €)! Macht euch ein eigenes Bild!

The food was mostly very good (hence 2 stars overall and not just 1), but the portions were very manageable. And at a price that is around 20-40% higher than comparable Greek restaurants. But the service was completely unacceptable. Inattentive and unfriendly which resulted in wrong drinks. And not even the question at the end whether you wanted an ouzo or espresso.

Very good food small and fain perfect for a quiet evening

A year ago we got TK Gyrros and wanted to try it again. An hour after the starter we were asked which main course we had ordered. Thankfully declined. This is not a Greek tavern. Too bad.

Unfortunately a bit disappointing. We were a group of 15 people. We have reserved a menu for 18 people in advance. We agreed on a price of €45 for a varied 2-course menu. The starter was ok but everything was the same. The main course only consisted of meat and potato chips, for example calamari was also promised. Even though there were only 15 of us, we were billed for 18 meals (which is ok in itself, but it's debatable). What was much worse was that we were charged €50 per bottle of Ouzo. A carafe of Hauswejn €25, which was absolutely inedible and felt like it came out of the tetra pack.

The restaurant has a very pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. You can ask to light the fireplace +500 to comfort! A hospitable owner makes you feel like you are visiting a person, and not just a restaurant. Varied choice of dishes. Excellent Georgian wines - definitely worth a try!

Wir waren zu Silvester in diesem Lokal auf Empfehlung. Das war das schlimmste und schlechteste was ich jemals erlebt habe. Essen kalt, absolut schlechter Service. Keine Musik im Lokal zu Silvester oder Unterhaltung. Völlig überteuerte Preise für die sehr schlechte Qualität der Speisen. 160,00 Euro für 2 erwachsene und ein Kind ! Verschmutzte Teller wurden nicht abgeräumt auf Getränke Wartezeit ca. 40 Minuten usw. Personal völlig überfordert. Sprach kein Wort deutsch oder englisch. Man sollte sich in Grund und Boden schämen. Nie wieder werde ich den Laden betreten und schon überhaupt nicht weiterempfehlen. Schämt euch !!! Ihr habt uns die Freude an Neujahr versaut und genommen !

Can't understand the good reviews. Very family unfriendly restaurant. There was no high chair, no changing table and we then had to change our child in the guest room. Service unfriendly and annoyed. He also gossiped about us when we asked about the changing table.

We have been to this restaurant on two other occasions and enjoyed the experience. It was our last night in Mainz and had reserved several weeks ago and was confirmed. One we arrived every table was reserved for larger groups. We speak German and they claimed to not have our reservation despite us showing it to them. Rather than make room for the two of us or find an alternate time slot, they simply turned us away. They appeared sorry for the mix up but it was a major disappointment and sadly won’t ever return. Not sure what’s happened but not the same restaurant as we’ve experienced in the past. Will look for other Greek food in Mainz.

I was annoyed by the comments that the service staff “didn’t speak German well”. We had no problem communicating. The lady reassured herself several times that she had understood the order correctly. But I didn't find that bothersome at all. The food was also good. And I am happy that the owner gives people the opportunity to arrive in Germany and learn the language.

Wir kennen die Taverne Naxos schon seit vielen Jahren und sind dort immer wieder gerne eingekehrt, so auch dieses mal, jedoch in Unwissenheit, dass die Betreiberfamilie nach der 2. Generation wohl nicht mehr das Naxos führt. Nun steht das Restaurant unter georgischer Leitung, wie zumindest die Speisekarte verrät und eine Weinauswahl aus dem Mutterland zu bestätigen scheint. Wann genau der Wechsel stattfand ist nicht geläufig, muss aber schon mind. Anfang des Jahres gewesen sein, wie aktuellere Bewertungen auf diesem Portal andeuten. Das Restaurant bestach früher durch seine griechische Authenzität, sei es, was den "alten" aber wertzuschätzenden Einrichtigungsstil, die Vielfältigkeit der Speisekarte und die griechische Originalität der Speisen und Getränke sowie den guten Service betraf. Alles in allem waren viele Veränderungen feststellen, leider nicht zum Positiven. Wenn auch der Einrichtungsstil im Kern beibehalten wurde, so sind ein paar Veränderungen so auffallend und -negativ- prägend, das man sie schon als Stilbruch bezeichnen kann. Bilder aus irgendeiner Billigquelle ohne jeden Bezug zu Griechenland beigemischt und dgl. mehr, die grelle Beleuchtung, eine Plastikspeisekarte mit Bildern von einzelnen Speisen (wie in einer Touristenkneipe - Stilbruch erster Klasse) und die Veränderung des Speiseangebots, um die essentiellen Beispiele anzuführen. Die Speisen zwar in Anlehnung an die Karte der vormaligen Betreiber, aber abgespeckt und mit erkennbar anderer Preispolitik auffällige Wahrnehmungen. So muss man Beilagensalate überwiegend dazu bestellen, natürlich gegen Aufpreis auf die ohnehin deutlich teurer gewordenen Hauptgerichte. Diese werden mit knapp unter 20 Euro einsteigend und tendenziel deutlich darüber bepreist. Die Erwartung, in altbekannter Qualität efreut zu werden, erfüllte sich jedoch nicht. So waren die Portionen eher kleiner (weniger Fleisch, dafür mehr Beilagen ... ergeben auch einen optisch gut gefüllten Teller) geraten. Sodass man leider ein nicht passendes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis feststellen muss. Die Qualität der Gerichte, die wir an einem 6er-Tisch hatten wurde zwischen "na ja" und "könnte besser sein" bewertet oder anders ausgedrückt, hatte dass mit der bekannten Qulität nicht mehr viel zu tun. Zwar Schmackhaft und gut gewürzt, aber das Fleisch überwiegend zu lange gebraten oder gegrillt, somit trocken und schon leicht zäh. Schade, denn das Fleisch selbst verriet noch eine gute Ursprungsqualität. Die Getränke überwiegend wie bekannt - typische Weine aus Griechenland und (neu) aus Georgien (als Hinweis auf die Herkunft des neuen Betreibers gedacht?). Aber die Preise, mit Ausnahme der Biere und der alkoholfreien Getränke, knackig nach oben angepasst. Der Einstieg bei 6,20 Euro mag noch innenstadtüblich sein. Aber ein gängiger Naoussa für 8,40 Euro (0,2 l) das Glas aus der gastronomischen Großflasche eingeschenkt kann hinterfragt werden (bei einem Literpreis im Handel für Endverbraucher von ca. 12,00 Euro? Deutsche Weine -ohne Herkunfts- und Jahrgangsangaben- mit 29,00 Euro die Flasche zu bepreisen ist schon anspruchsvoll. Und erschwert wurde der Genuss des Abends durch einen höchst unprofessionellen Service, der sichtlich überfordert schien. Unbeholfen im Verhalten, sprachlich beidseitig nur schwere Verständigung (folglich mit Missverständnissen bei der Umsetzung der Bestellungen) möglich, ohne System arbeitend und unaufmerksam. Negativ abgerundet wurde das Bild durch offensichtliche Probleme in der Küche, die bestellten Speisen in angemessener Zeit zur Verfügung zu stellen. Waren die Wartezeiten bei den Getränken schon zu lang oder um eine Bestellung aufzugeben, aber für die Bereitstellung der Speisen bis zu 90 Minuten zu benötigen, lässt große Probleme in der Küche vermuten. Diese Wahrnehmung bezog sich nicht nur auf unseren Tisch, sondern auf alle Tische, die an dem Abend besetzt waren. Die Entschuldigung am Ende, dass die Küche heute Probleme hatte, ist ehrenwert ... aber mit Blick auf vorausgegangene Bewertungen auf diesem Portal, war das nicht das einmalige Vorkommnis, sondern scheint ein chronisches Problem zu sein. Alles in allem fällt es schwer über ein zweite Chance nachzudenken. Schade - denn das Naxos war nach unserer Einordnung einer der besten griechischen Restaurants in Mainz. Das Niveau zu erreichen bedarf noch erheblicher Anstrengungen und Veränderungen. Eigentlich müsste die Bewertung "ausreichend" abschließen - "mangelhaft wäre unfair", aber an "befriedigend" müsste das Team noch arbeiten!

We had a great evening at this Greek restaurant! The food was really tasty, especially the mixed plate with different types of meat and potatoes - perfectly prepared and juicy, not a bit dry. The prices are fair, which makes the overall package even more attractive. The service was friendly, although she could have been a little more attentive. Since the restaurant was full, we would recommend a reservation. All in all, a recommended place for Greek cuisine!

Our visit here was rather disappointing: 1. Language barrier with both waitresses, which made ordering difficult 2. 1 x drink brought incorrectly & beer poorly tapped, very foamy 3. Main courses arrived shortly after the starters came to the table 4. In terms of taste, these were at best in the lower midfield, gyros from the pan, bifteki very dark, steak quite dry & tough and potatoes oily 5. Quite high price for mediocre quality 6. The interior design cannot be identified as a Greek restaurant and everything is quite old 7. Last but not least, acceptance of a voucher advertised via NeoTaste was refused Absolutely worst restaurant experience in a long time, thanks for nothing.

We used to go to Naxos regularly, still among the older couple. The man cooked himself. We always ate a bifteki with Metaxa sauce. Today, under the new owner, not only is the side salad missing (okay the prices are rising everywhere), but the (Greek) taste is simply missing. Potato slices fried but soggy, Metaxa not very seasoned, Greek pasta without seasoning, Bifteki probably bought ready-made? The full service was, to say the least, non-existent and you had the impression that someone was a restaurateur here in their first week. Apart from the rudimentary language skills, at least the service staff was simply listless. Without a greeting and with reference to various reservations, we were seated at a table directly by the toilet. Only after repeated requests did we get another table, even though the restaurant was only a third full. By the way: There are no more reservations. Prices are way too high for that. Too bad Naxos…good-bye.

Dined here last night with a large group and had a wonderful time! The whole experience was excellent! Zurra the owner took great care of us, the staff was attentive and the meals were all made to order and cooked to perfect!

Muss mich hier leider den anderen negativen Kommentaren anschließen. Essen war teilweise noch sehr gut wie früher aber nicht so ganz. Der Preis ist nicht mehr gerechtfertigt. Personal ist total überfordert leider und hat wohl auch nicht mehr die Kraft auf Beschwerden einzugehen. Lange Wartezeit und viele schlecht gelaunte Gäste trüben das Ambiente. War unser zweiter und letzter Versuch, seit das Restaurant einen neuen Betreiber hat. 2 Sterne, da es geschmeckt hat, aber als jemand der selbst in der Gastronomie arbeitet , konnte ich bei vielen Beobachtung wie der Service abläuft leider nur den Kopf schütteln. Zeitweise hatte ich stark das Bedürfnis einfach selbst einzuspringen. Das Essen an sich war gut.

Amazing Greek food! The best moussaka I’ve ever had! All the other dishes were amazing as well!

The restaurant has changed ownership and is not the same. The food is nowhere near as good and the portions are small. I'll never go back.
