Restaurant To Tzaki in Mainz

EDITED TO ACCOMMODATE THE HOST: This restaurant used to be excellent value for money. Since the alleged change of ownership, however, I feel that the quality has deteriorated significantly. The place was uncomfortably cool, as were the plates, so that the food was only served just acceptably warm. The salad dressing tasted watery and the gyro was partially burnt. Unfortunately, I can no longer find a receipt as proof of my visit. It's a shame: the pleasant smell behind the rattan panel to the left of the building was particularly inviting. I won't eat here anymore. ============================= THE CONTRIBUTION HAS BEEN ADJUSTED TO ACCOMMODATE THE BUSINESS. However, I don't want to leave his comments unanswered because, in my view, they do not accurately nuance the facts. I therefore comment in detail as follows: > "....extra large plate...": The size of the plate and the portion corresponded to a normal portion - neither larger nor smaller than that of the other guests. > "...with a double side dish on the house...": When ordering, fries were requested as a side dish, but potato slices were served instead. The fries were added later, while the originally served potato slices, which would otherwise have been thrown away anyway, were left at no extra charge. > "...completely devoured within a few minutes, so that the plate was almost shiny, you just can't take it seriously.": The potato slices were hot, while the gyros and fries were only served just acceptably warm. It had to be eaten quickly in order to avoid further cooling and thus impairing the enjoyment. The fries cooled down quickly and were therefore only partially eaten. > "Everyone is allowed to have their opinion. But that they then go public...": This is exactly the point of reviews - to openly express and share a personal, not necessarily positive opinion. > "and add untruths to support your opinion": Given my clarifications here, I think the term "untruths" is inappropriate and problematic. > "...they have been to me countless times.": This statement is simply wrong. While my companion has visited your restaurant several times (and also complained about the temperature and taste), it was only my second time visiting this restaurant. > "This can be detrimental to one's existence, and we will defend ourselves against it.": In view of my corrections mentioned above, I would like to ask the innkeeper for a concrete explanation as to which of my statements are considered "untrue" or "damaging to one's existence". This is especially true given the numerous positive reviews of the restaurant. If reasons are given that indicate that individual points in my original or edited review may not be appropriate, I am of course prepared to comment again and adjust the review if necessary.

Can be recommended, but the staff should be a little more attentive, our glasses were all empty and no one asked if we would like to order anything. Food was good

The tastiest Greek in the Mainz area, tip top.

Food: If, like me, you like everything with Metaxa sauce, you will find it here. But other dishes are at least good too. Service is rather relaxed, but always careful, courteous and polite. Ambiance is quite sparse, but not uncomfortable. Gourmet block is accepted.

We were very happy with the food and the service. It wasn't the first time we've been there and we've already had deliveries brought to us.

Very nice patisserie with good pastries. Hearty dishes such as burgers, pizza and quiche are also offered. Everything tastes very good and fresh.

Delicious food, you immediately notice the freshness of the prepared dishes.

The food was first class. I would particularly like to highlight the lamb fillet. Fried to perfection and particularly tender. The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive and always willing to make recommendations. At the end there was an ouzo from the nice boss himself. An all-round perfect visit to an authentic Greek restaurant.

My girlfriend and I recently had a date here. Since we have the Mainzer Schlemmerblock, we chose this restaurant because they take part in it. We were greeted very friendly and taken to the table. The service staff were all very nice and customer-oriented. The ambience was typical of what you would find in Greek restaurants. A special feature here is that a horse riding arena is built directly into the restaurant, so that you could watch the horses ride through a large glass front. The food was delicious and the portions were large. Price-performance ratio is right here. Unfortunately, the EC machine was broken during our visit, which meant we had to go to the bank because we didn't have any cash in our pockets. We had a great evening and would come back at any time. In my opinion, dishes could be a little larger. Price-performance okay. Everything tasted good. Ambiance is all a bit old-fashioned. At the end we got an ouzo.

Delightful Greek food! It doesn't get any better! We had the wonderful Bifteki filled with sheep's cheese in Metaxa sauce. I can recommend this to everyone! Delicious. Very nice hosts, atmosphere like in Greece - gladly again!

We went there to eat with Schlemmerblock and mentioned this when ordering. The food was delicious. However, when we wanted to pay, we were told that since we ate the same thing, the voucher could not be redeemed. The Schlemmerblock rules say “the cheaper or EQUAL value food is free”. Even though we were right in black and white, the price of the second meal was not deducted. As I said, when ordering it wasn't pointed out that this wasn't possible. At To Tzaki they like to rip off their customers! What a disgrace!

We have been eating here for the last year and everything has been great. The baked metaxa gyros was our highlight. Unfortunately today we went during the weekend and the service was really slow and unfriendly. They seemed to be different people. The guy at the bar was very rude, when paying he was unfriendly and acted like I was a nuisance. Even after I tipped >10%, but without a single thank you. I hope the friendly service will come back even though on a busy weekend.

Seen it once while cycling and then tried it out with the voucher book. By the way, you shouldn't be confused by the Google route guidance and NOT let yourself be guided through the fields coming from Ebersheim. ;-) Just go straight through Hechtsheim... Sitting outside is really sitting "outside" here. :-) The dishes we chose were brought quickly, very tasty, nice and hot and a good portion each! The service was nice, courteous and had some funny sayings. :-) We'll stop by there again!

Very quiet location and the staff are super friendly and in a good mood. The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is very nice.

We became aware of it through the gourmet block and tested it on our wedding day. Delicious! Super friendly! Very nicely designed! And what is very important: the toilets were very clean! It wasn't the last time we were there, next time we would be with the whole family.

Unfortunately the condition has deteriorated dramatically! The boy (of Turkish descent) was very friendly and funny. Thanks! But the woman was pissed off and unfriendly right from the start. Rough in the operation and service! Unfortunately not Greek either. (Today the Orthodox Good Friday) We weren't offered the ouzo at the end like the rest of the guests🤔 A pity. Probably politically motivated?🥺 We definitely won't be coming back in the next few months, even though we've been here several times and had them delivered. Ελπίζω ότι θα είναι καλύτερα.

My husband and I always enjoyed going here... but since the ownership changed it's been a disaster. We ordered food to pick up and were told on the phone that the fried potatoes were included with the meal. When we picked up the food, there were actually 5 of us! Euros charged extra per portion. An absolute disgrace when you consider that the fried potatoes were definitely not fresh but tasted like stale fat!!!!!!! The metaxa sauce was also so oily and the bifteki were just cold. We will never eat or pick up there again!!

Nice little restaurant. Very good food. Super nice service. I can only highly recommend the Greek rosé wine. Price-performance is okay, unfortunately a bit hidden, at the furthest corner of Hechtsheim. For entertainment, you can watch the horse riders training through a glass wall from the restaurant.

Hello, I've known this place for a long time. I had dinner there about 14 days ago in the evening with a gourmet block, 1x Giros with salad, fried potatoes and 1x mixed grill plate, I can't remember the name, about €22.50. Unfortunately the price-performance ratio is no longer right. Very clear portions, the salad, well. It is an art to get the tomato slices with a thickness of 2mm. It's better to use a knife and not a cucumber cutter. Maybe it was the gourmet block. We won't go there anymore. But it's all a matter of taste. That's really a pity!!!

A quite small but still cozy restaurant. From the restaurant you can look into the riding hall. Orders were taken quickly and the food was at the table quickly. The lamb skewers were very tasty. Beautifully delicate and slightly pink. Perfect cooking point.

Food was super tasty and fresh. Unfortunately the service is unfriendly, you are only checked in here, if you order additional things they are forgotten, you ask politely and get a stroppy answer... All you see are faces in a bad mood. Maybe you should consider whether the job is suitable for you. Otherwise we were super satisfied with the food.

Wir gehen sehr gerne zu TO TZAKI und sind noch nie enttäuscht gewesen! Man wird immer freundlich mit einem Lächeln begrüßt, die Atmosphäre ist entspannt und man fühlt sich gleich willkommen. Das Essen ist sehr ansprechend eingerichtet und schmeckt immer köstlich. Die Portionen sind ausreichend, der Beilagensalat schmackhaft. Das Personal ist sehr aufmerksam, der Chef macht lustige Sprüche. Jedes Mal ist der Besuch wie eine kurze Exkursion nach Griechenland. Am Ende gibt es noch ein Verdauungstrunk, auf Wunsch wird sogar eine Flasche Baileys aufgemacht❣️und Kids bekommen Lollys. Das war heute wieder ein toller Abend, auch danke an Oma, die diese Idee heute hatte😘 und danke an das Team von To Tzaki für diese entspannte und leckere Zeit. Auf jeden Fall 100% zu empfehlen🥇
