Taverne im Hotel Römischer Kaiser in Trier

I'm sure I've already written a review about the hotel. The tavern impresses with regional culinary delicacies. Because I had the snack I can confirm this. Regional products were attractively draped at the table and the staff explained each one. Great evening in the tavern and in the hotel itself. Thanks for that.

Leider kein Restaurant mehr, sondern nach Aussage der Rezeption nur ein Hotel mit Frühstücksbuffet. Wirklich schade ... Vor Jahren gab es hier richtig gutes Essen zu akzeptablen Preisen. Das Spargeleis wird für immer und ewig unvergesslich bleiben. Da ich nur bei der Rezeption angefragt habe und nichts gebucht hatte gibt es die mittlere neutrale 3-Sterne-Wertung.

The food in the restaurant was great. The rooms don't quite fit. The hotel would have to invest something if such a chef presented food here

Simply great and a very great atmosphere

Very good food, friendly service and a reasonable price for the quality of the food.

Very centrally located hotel. Breakfast isn't bad, but as we all know, the price-performance ratio is debatable. Superficially clean but also slightly showing its age. Had a room on the 4th floor, unfortunately there was no option to darken the window.

Booked the hotel on site spontaneously. Super centrally located. The very competent lady at reception immediately recognized that I would rather have a modern room. The room is very modern and clean. The famous something is missing, a bit cool and simply furnished. Unfortunately you couldn't make coffee or tea. I think it's due to Corona. Breakfast was at the daughter hotel. It was also completely fine. The service was quick and very nice. Highly recommended for a short city trip. Thank you again.

The room itself was very attractive but unfortunately the pressure in the shower was very weak. We had a big blood stain on the bed at head height. And the most annoying thing, we had to wait over half an hour for breakfast. We were in the breakfast room at 9:07 a.m. with 6 others. Apparently the grain rolls were already out, but there were cheap baked rolls as an alternative. The service couldn't do anything about it, because the coffee was at the table in no time and the juice was filled up immediately, but the breakfast was brought up from the kitchen with the food elevator and there seems to have been no one in the kitchen. We only saw the stains in the morning and only used the shower in the morning, so we couldn't complain about it beforehand and it was only one night that we spent there for €105. We installed it accordingly when checking out, but the only response was "I understand you're upset" Unfortunately, this hotel is not recommended for accommodation!

Amazing location - right next to Porta Nigra gate, close to all other sights and the old city. 5min walk to the main railway station.

Pleasant atmosphere with good cuisine

wir wurden freundlich begrüßt, bekamen sofort die Speisekarte und es wurde nach dem Getränkewunsch gefragt, bei der Bestellung der Speisen wurde dann gefragt ob es eine Tagesuppe oder ein Brot mit Dip zusätzlich sein dürfte, Suppe wurde verneint, Brot wurde bestellt, nach längerer Zeit kam das Essen, mein Steak war total durchgebraten und dadurch sehr zäh, das Servicepersonal war total überfordert, das Brot mit Dip haben wir auch nicht gesehen

Clear menu (which doesn’t have to be a disadvantage). My pasta wasn't aldente and wasn't warm anymore...my friends, who all ate something different, liked it, although the problem with the heat of the food affected everyone. Not 5 stars but quite ok. and the friendly service contributed to the good rating

Wir waren eine Gruppe von 6 Personen. Als der erste Teil der Gruppe zum Restaurant kam, kam keine Servicekraft um zu helfen, einen Tisch zu finden, bzw. 2 Tische zu zusammenzuschieben. Die Kellnerinnen hinterließen insgedsamt nichgt eden Eindruck, als wenn sie ihre Arbeit gerne tun würden, es gab kein nettes Wort, kein Lächeln. Als das Kind in der Grupp eine Kellner in nach einem Kinderstuhl für ihr Püppchen fragte, sagte sie zuerst, sie müsse schauen gehen. Als diese wiederkam und uns nicht ansprach, sprachen wir Erwachsene sie an und fragten erneut nach einem Kinderstuhl - ihre Antwort hat uns alle dermaßen überrascht und schockiert gleichermaßen: "Wie haben keinen Kinderstuhl". Wow, ein Restaurant in Deutschland, das keinen Kinderstuhl hat?! Warum nicht, weil man keine Kinder mag? Weil man nur Erwachsene in diesem Restaurant bedienen möchte? Wir waren perplex. Die Speisekarte hat uns auch nicht zugesagt, da wir nur eine Kleinigkeit essen wollten. Nach dem Essen gingen wir zu viert zur Toilette und begegneten dort auch einer Servicekraft. Es muss gesagt werden, denn diese hat sich ihre Hände nach dem Toilettengang nicht mit Seife gewachsen. Das ist ein absolutes NO-GO. Schrecklich. Oben haben wir dann sofort die Dame an der Rezeption angesprochen und ihr nicht nur gesagt, dass die Kellnerin sich nicht richtig die Hände gewaschen hat, sondern auch gefragt, warum sie gegen Kinder seien. Der Schock über das Hygieneproblem sah man ihr an, sie fragte auch sofort, wer es gewesen sei. ...Die Problematik mit den Kindern konnte sie gar nicht verstehen, bis ich ihr erklärte, dass sie ja keine Kinderstühle hätten und das doch dann die Schlussfolgerung wäre. .Sie sagte uns, dass sie Kinderstühle hätten.... Danke für die Antwort...das heißt, dass die Kellnerin zu faul?zu bequem? zu unfreundlich? war, um dem Kind einen Kinderstuhl zu bringen?! Auch hier Kopfschütteln von der Dame an der Rezeption und von uns.

Hello, on August 20th, 2019 I visited the restaurant with my colleague during my lunch break. We had previously looked at the menu online and agreed on dishes from the lunch menu. On site we received a list of dishes from the service, which I will go into in more detail shortly, which unfortunately did not contain the dishes we wanted. When we asked and referred to the map on the homepage, we were only told that it was “old” and that we had to choose a dish from the list presented. We were not presented with a menu. A long time after ordering, the intern asked us if we would like something to drink. In retrospect, I didn't think the five euros for three quarters of a liter of water was fair either. After a long wait in the cold restaurant and after we had lit the candle on our table ourselves, we were served the soup of the day, which was “voluntary” for us. We were not told what soup this was. Then came our dishes. My colleague's dish was advertised as tagliatelle. However, spaghetti was served. My chicken salad actually lacked dressing. The salad was served with a vinegar-oil-water mixture. When I asked for more dressing I was given yogurt dressing. Unfortunately, the service was rarely seen, is very inexperienced, unfortunately a bit rude, neither wanted a good appetite nor was asked about the well-being of the guests in the meantime. Rather, both young women were busy setting a single table together or standing behind the counter on their cell phones. All hope died when the music turned up louder and German rap (Loredana-Eiskalt) played. Unfortunately very very disappointing. Two stars because I otherwise feel sorry for the 16-year-old intern. She was really nice, even if I didn't really understand her acoustically.

Hotel is in terrible condition! Bathroom was extremely dirty, curtains were missing, everything was really outdated. After complaining, they apologized to us and gave us another room. Unfortunately this was in the same condition.

We stayed in a different hotel for the first few days, but wanted to stay in Trier for one day longer. Since the first hotel was fully booked, we had to move for one night. The Roman Emperor is getting on in years. Everything seems unkempt. There hasn't been any investment here for years. We also had a tube TV in the room. Just because of the proximity to Porta Nigra, outrageous prices are charged here. The cleanliness of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff leave a lot to be desired.

It was warm in the room and there was only a small window, we were on the 4th floor with 3 people in a room. Window open and a lot of outside noise. Location was great. The reception could be a bit chatty. While we were checking out, she started calling another service. For me, this could wait until we were gone. I find this rude.

This review only covers the restaurant. The food is just ok, nothing special, and surely not up to the price asked. Staff seems to be quit inexperienced, but nice.

Nice rooms, good restaurant, until they run out of plates and food at breakfast

Excellent kitchen. Serving local food and ancient Roman recipes. Friendly staff, bilingual menu cards and Visa payment possible.

Very large and beautiful rooms that correspond to the architectural style! NOT a 0-8-15 hotel! Parking spaces are also directly at the hotel! The breakfast exceeds all expectations!!! I didn't visit the restaurant, so one star is missing!

I was there once, and it was for free. The price tag is cosmic, in the opinion of a refugee...

On October 3, 2018, on my birthday, my friend invited me here for breakfast. Actually, this just came about by chance since our plan A and B were both closed. Unfortunately, that was probably double bad luck... 😔 We arrived and of course it wasn't empty, but not completely full either. The waitress greeted us with "You can sit down, but you'd better not." It started off great 🙄 we sat down at a table that hadn't been cleared and the waitress didn't lift a finger even when we asked. We waited desperately for drinks. The buffet wasn't refilled either, for example there was no more bread/rolls/croissants. We also had to pay almost €30 for this catastrophic service, which borders on being cheeky. After the visit it was definitely clear to us that next time on my birthday we would rather have breakfast at Burgerking. Even there, service is apparently even more important than it was to the Roman emperor 😒

The small hotel has an elegant lobby and restaurant on the first floor. The ceiling in the room is high, there are few TV channels, and the Internet may not be available. Maybe the bed was too soft and I couldn't sleep well. The hot water supply in the bathroom was fast and strong, which was good. The breakfast is as shown in the picture, the fruit is fresh, the hot food includes German hot dogs and dry and hard scrambled eggs. The coffee is quite bad, so I had to take out the coffee next door.

Het restaurant was vrijwel uitgestorven. We snapten niet goed waarom want de service was erg keurig en het eten lekker.

Lovely place for a romantic weekend

Very nice hotel with great Persian service, the service was very good, quick and friendly. Rarely have I met such a good service person. Food was great and rooms are clean. Absolutely recommended because of the careful operation.

Dinner was like it was in a canteen. However, the rooms are very nice.

Positive: Nice welcome, close to the center Negative: - defective socket cover in the bathroom - dangerous! - half-open junction box in the bathroom - dangerous! - clearly visible crack in the bathroom wall - statics? - babbling waterfall through the radiator (house technology not in use?) - Dirty elevator, could also be installed at a train station, just disgusting. Before anyone thinks, why don't they report this to reception: I did, and the lady was grateful too. In the hope that the dangerous defects will be remedied as quickly as possible, 3 stars for now.

Wir sind 5-6 mal pro Jahr in Trier und haben jeweils im Römischen Kaiser gegessen. Bisher waren wir immer sehr zufrieden. Aber diesmal am 25.8,2018 kann es nur ein dickes Minus geben. Nur eine Servicekraft um 12.15 Uhr. Es dauerte lange bis wir die Getränke bestellen konnten (Limo war aus, Wein ohne Auswahl). Andere Gäste, die nach uns gekommen waren wurden schneller bedient. Das gleiche beim Essen. Zwischenzeitlich tauchte mal kurz eine 2. Bedienung auf, sagte, sie komme sofort zu uns und wurde nicht mehr bei uns gesehen. Das Essen... Kein Brot zuvor. Die Suppe versalzen. Die Nudeln lauwarm, die Fischstückchen sehr übersichtlich. Fritten in der Soße und vermascht. Der Salat geschmacklos. Im Gegensatz zu früher keine Mandelsplitter zum Kaffee. Was ist im Römischen Kaiser los???

Actually really good food! But the operation is a disaster - you have to bring a lot of time and nerves!

It was very good 😋 and dogs are accepted.

We were really dissapointed - the service was really (!) slow, the food was pour and there were small flies flying around in our food and drinks. I ordered Argentinian filee steak as medium plus and received it well done. The ”butter” (that was suppose to be put on the steak) was frozen and didn’t melt on the steak partly because the steak wasn’t hot enough and partly due to the butter being frozen. All in all a horrible experience - don’t go!

Central location in Trier. Literally steps away from the Porta Nigra (Roman gate), a short walk to the central market and cathedral(s), and a 10-15 minute walk from the Karl Marx House (museum). Very nice, clean room. Great shower. Breakfast was nice and staff is very friendly. Would happily stay there again.

Als Trierer kann man nur sagen , da stimmt einfach alles! Perfektes Ambiente und eine schöne kleine Speisekarte. Der Preis passt für die Qualität die man serviert bekommt. Der Service ist gut und aufmerksam. Sehr gerne wieder

Four of us enjoyed a potentially very good meal on a lovely sunny evening but my Argentinian steak was disappointing. I ordered a rare steak but the steak I was presented with was medium at best. I didn't ask for another steak but the restaurant insisted on bringing me another and, when it came, I realised what the problem was: the steak had been frozen and not fresh when before it was cooked. It is almost impossible to serve a rare (very red) steak that had been previously frozen.

Unter dem Motto "kann man mal hin" waren wir unterwegs... Sind dann ins Restaurant des Römischen Kaiser's rein - ohne Reservierung. Einen Tisch für 2 ... kein Problem. Die Speisen waren von guter Qualität, der Service zuvorkommend und immer präsent fast schon Zuviel des guten. Die Weinauswahl ist recht groß von der Mosel bis hin zur Cote d' Provence - Italien - Portugal bis Chile. Alles in Allem Gut ... Fazit: Kann man nochmal hin :-).

A beautiful hotel in style that suits beautiful Trier. The style on the outside has been continued on the inside, which in my opinion is very successful. The room was clean, tidy and well insulated in terms of noise, the bed was very good. The breakfast was well prepared, as was the dinner in the restaurant. Parking is included in the price, on a secure private property. Staff is very friendly, but a bit too much workload (understaffing), but they try not to show this. But it still leads to a pleasant stay.

Nous avons déjeuné en famille avant de visiter le centre historique de Trêves. Le restaurant à une décoration très classique, voire vieillotte. Néanmoins l'accueil est très pro et sympathique. La carte est courte avec des plats connus. Il ne faut pas chercher l'extravagance culinaire ni une invention folle dans les plats, mais c'est bon, bien cuisiné avec de bons produits de qualité. Je recommande vivement ce restaurant.

Vorbestelltes Abendessen dauert trotzdem fast eine Stunde bis es serviert wurde. Essen war durchschnittlich, aber nicht unbedingt preiswert. Beim Service war eine Hauptangestellte tätig, die mit zwei Anfängerinnen zurecht kommen musste. Beim Bezahlen stellte sich heraus, dass davon eine den ersten Tag in diesem Job tätig war. Dennoch freundlicher Service. Aufgrund der Gruppen für einzene Gäste/Paare sehr laut.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the rooms as I haven't stayed there yet! For lunch I can only say it's a great offering and a really good price-performance ratio! The waitresses are very nice and take criticism well. Worth a visit every time!

The hotel is very good and I slept well. The real reason for my rating is that I ate a steak here that was second to none. That was simply awesome and a culinary experience that has stayed with you.

Perfectly located next to Porta Nigra Room of average size but clean and comfortable. Very nice btrakfast and parking at a locked open space not far away was included in the very reasonably prise.

I was staying in the hotel. I wouldn't really want to go into the boring interior restaurant around the side but the terrace on the main street is good. Most tables on the terrace were reserved but only one of the tables got occupied during the hour that I was there, otherwise service was quite good. I had what I thought would be cannelloni but instead they'd wrapped cheese inside strips of aubergine, then added some sauteed vegetables and put some linguine on the side. It was really quite tasty but I can't see how it improves on traditional cannelloni. Good food and the prices were quite alright.

Everything was fine... Except that the hallway near our room stank.

Come da indirizzo, il ristorante e' centralissimo, proprio davanti alla famosissima Porta Nigra. Sala da pranzo piccolina, ma c'è una grande scala con presumo una sala grande. Servizio veloce e personale gentilissimo. Buona la zuppa all'orientale, semplicemente splendida la fitness salat. Abbondante, ben condita. Il Riesling rose e' solo la ciliegina sulla torta

Wonderfully located on the edge of the city center. Room is very comfortable and no complaints. The breakfast is rich and balanced. The hotel itself is very clean, well maintained and its staff is friendly and close to guests. I can absolutely recommend it !!!

Excellent food in a nice enviroment. The food was special och had an interesting historical history. The service culd hav been much better.

Breakfast is great. Rooms are nice. Bathroom tends to have a smell in it, partly due to the poor toilet design.

A very nice hotel from the outside in a very central location. Unfortunately, you can tell from the rooms that not much has happened since the good old days of beech veneer and colorful, abstract pastel curtains (in our case with holes). This is charitably referred to as “individual” on the website. However, you can't complain about the lack of cleanliness in the room or the bathroom. Unfortunately, the cleaning staff had problems recognizing an ice cream sundae from the previous evening as the hotel's own, so she simply left it there for decoration. The breakfast itself is good and varied (cold cuts, salmon, eggs, cereals, fruits, yogurt, sparkling wine, etc.). Unfortunately, there was a lack of service on both days: dirty plates were cleared late or not at all, important ingredients/utensils were not refilled (eggs, sausage, milk, light rolls, plates, glasses, cutlery), so you end up at the counter for every little thing had to make itself noticeable. Of course there was a lot going on, but the chaos arose more from the service staff behind the counter hindering each other rather than agreeing on areas of activity. In order to do justice to the price-performance ratio, the points of criticism mentioned should be taken into account.
