We had reserved a table for 8 p.m., but the reservation could not be “found” on site. At first we were very rudely accused of having made the reservation in the wrong restaurant. Suddenly the reservation showed up, but for 7 p.m. The waitress incorrectly and in an inappropriately accusatory tone insisted that it must definitely have been our fault.

Very cozy restaurant at the castle in Kastellaun, we would love to come back

Delicious food. Shared tomato soup and mushrooms. My wife had the Steak and I had the spareribs (if you finish them you certainly don't need dessert anymore. Pfff). Very tasty, as was the steak by the way. I also saw guests who didn't finish everything, but had the rest packed. We sat outside on the terrace, with a view of the old castle. Very nice location, but a bit up a mountain. Recommended.

Very nice tavern. When the weather is good you can sit comfortably in the castle courtyard. Very tasty food with a fun menu that fits castle life. E.g.: A bunch of fedder cattle 😋so plentiful and delicious and really served on a shovel 🤗 Brilliant! Service staff courteous and friendly.

Four of us had dinner there today on the occasion of my wife's birthday. All around an experience. Food, staff and ambience perfect. You'll be happy to go there again.

We love it.... Super nice staff.... On the upper floor there would be a small elevator for transporting food and drinks, an absolute relief for the staff who always have to go up and down the stairs when they are full. That would be an enrichment and relief for everyone. Food is simply delicious. Always happy 🥂

We were completely impressed by the tavern in Kastellaun during our visit on June 27, 2024. We would particularly like to emphasize the restaurant's exceptional child-friendliness. Our children immediately felt welcome and in good hands. Another highlight was the fulfillment of individual meal requests. Despite our special requirements, our desired dish was prepared perfectly and tasted excellent. The tavern is also located in a very nice location, which perfectly complements the ambience. The parking options were also ideal - there was enough space right next to the castle and we were able to arrive stress-free after just a few minutes of walking. Overall, our visit to the tavern in Kastellaun was a completely successful experience. We would love to come back and can warmly recommend the restaurant!

Beautiful ambience, top service, funny and very nice menu. Food excellent. Were there with 10 people and a dog. Reservation needed. All the dishes were great. Very good selection of drinks. Toilets nicely designed and clean.

Top location, friendly service and good food but not a recommendation from us. We won't be coming back!!! Stopped there for lunch today on a bike ride. I have the meat dish “Sau Scharf”, which is served with a pepper/cognac sauce and a simple potato ordered (the potato is only shown on the menu in conjunction with quark, garlic cream, etc.) The food was good and plentiful. When the bill came I read potato with quark and complained about the error. The waitress said she couldn't change that and I asked to speak to the boss. The boss was friendly but said that just potatoes alone wouldn't be in the system and that he could do something about it, but he didn't want to. Arguments or an explanation as to why there are none! An absurdity in our opinion. As a result, we had to pay for something that we neither ordered nor ate. (€5.90 for the potato without the ingredient according to the menu) Hospitality is different. We will neither recommend the restaurant nor visit it again.

We ate here unplanned twice in a row. We wanted to celebrate a birthday on a trip and found accommodation at short notice. The food and service were so convincing that we returned the next day. What we had: Goulash soup and a salad with mozzarella, apple, walnuts, chili & honey (starters) Rump steak with pepper/flambéed, rump steak with mustard crust, the Federfieh with chili marinade and the pork loin “scharfe Sau” were all one dish! Very good quality of food! Price/performance top! The children ate nuggets, rice and potato wedges and were happy. The desserts and wines were also a poem. The service is attentive and unobtrusive and a restaurateur who obviously loves and lives his restaurant. We'd love to come back!

Excellent food in a very nice medieval atmosphere. The service (maid) is on point and warm.

Unfortunately the price-performance ratio doesn't fit. The ambience and prices as well as the reviews here gave us hope for fine dining. In fact, 90% of the food consisted of ready-made products, which did not show any great effort on the part of the cook. The "three sauces" served with the castle lord's skewer were sweet chili, ajvar and herb butter, all of which looked and tasted commercially available. Potato wedges and fried potatoes were also fried frozen products. The meat was ok though, not overwhelming but quite good. Overall, we still cannot understand the many very good reviews. It was nice to sit, served nicely and was full, but for the price we would have expected more finesse and fewer finished products.

We are regulars at the tavern. Everything is just great there. Food, staff, ambience.

Delicious, hearty food and attentive service. We also celebrated a family celebration there and were very happy with the buffet and everything around it!

We came by here spontaneously and asked if we could sit in the beer garden for a drink, only afterwards we saw on Google that we were here outside opening hours. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and still served us. Gladly again, great atmosphere :)

Unfortunately you can only give 5 stars for all categories here. They actually deserved more. The atmosphere here is very cozy, the employees are super nice, polite and accommodating. The food is always perfect! We love being here!

Wir hatten dort unsere Firmenfeier beim Kerkermahl. Einfach Klasse . Die Unterhaltung war spitze,wir haben viel gelacht. Es war alles prima und das Essen hervorragend. Das muss man echt mal erleben. Ein toller Abend und ich kam heil davon obwohl ich an dem Abend zur Hexe ernannt wurde. Freue mich aufs nächste Mal

Kerkermahl...ein muss! Wir waren mit unserem Team im Kerker essen. Termin wurde vorab schon länger reserviert. Es war ein sehr kurzweiliger schöner Abend, mit sehr guter Unterhaltung. Wir hatten sehr viel spaß und werden bestimmt wieder kommen. Das Programm, in diesem sehr schönen ambiente war klasse. Danke

Wir waren am 26.12.23 zum Abendessen auf der Burg. Das Essen wurde in Buffetform serviert. Ein Wahnsinn an Speisen und absolut Top👌! Preisleistung mehr als super . Personal sehr aufmerksam und nett. Ein Besuch dort, immer wieder gerne.

Wir waren beim Kerkeressen. Eine riesen Gaudi !! Super Ambiente im Gewölbekeller .Essen und Trinken soviel wie reinpasst 😁.Auch die Unterhaltung des Burgherren ,der Magd und des Knechts waren herrlich 👍😄. Ein riesen Spass

Gutes Essen im entspannter Atmosphäre. Die Location ist sehr schön dekoriert :)

Vor einer Woche waren wir anlässlich eines Geburtstags in der Taverne auf der Burg Essen. Hierbei habe ich mir ein medium-raw Rumpsteak bestellt mit zwei Beilagen (Wedges und Bohnen im Speckmantel). Unser Essen kam in einem zeitlich absolut angemessenen Rahmen. Das Rumpsteak (ca. 300gr.) war auf den Punkt gebraten, leider war es trotzdem teilweise zäh und daher muss ich beim Essen aufgrund der Fleischqualität einen Punkt abziehen. Zumal das Steak an sich ohne Beilagen kommt und man die Beilagen separat dazu bestellen muss. Hier muss ich klar sagen, dass das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis für mich aufgrund der Fleischqualität nicht stimmt. Was die Bestuhlung anbelangt empfand ich es als sehr eng und da das Restaurant auch gut gefüllt war wurde es dann doch recht laut. Auch war es so dunkel, dass wir zum Lesen der Karte unsere Handylichter nehmen mussten. Grundsätzlich ist der Raum sehr schön eingerichtet, allerdings würde ihm ein wenig mehr Zwischenraum zwischen den Tischen sehr gut tun. Daher auch hier beim Ambiente einen Punkt Abzug. Die Bedienung selbst war sehr aufmerksam, freundlich und immer da wenn man sie brauchte, dazu allerdings nie aufdringlich. Viel besser geht es hier nicht. Die Toiletten sind, obwohl es ein Nachbau nach historischen Vorlagen ist, "über dem Hof". Sprich, man muss bei Wind und Wetter aus dem Restaurant gehen, um die Toiletten zu erreichen. Das hätte man sicher besser lösen können.

Das Kerker-Essen war ein großer Spaß!

Fantastische Atmosphäre in wunderschöner Lage. Bedienungen sind super nett und locker, Ausstattung ist modern genug ohne das Ambiente zu stören. Das Essen ist unglaublich. Riesige Portionen, ungewöhnliche Kombinationen, und auf den Punkt zubereitet. Man sollte aber unbedingt rechtzeitig reservieren, da das Restaurant (zu Recht!) sehr beliebt und gut besucht ist.

Alles sehr gut. Einziges Manko sind die Preise bei manchen Gerichten.

Ein Muss für jeden der nach Kastellaun oder Umgebung kommt...das tolle Ambiente der Burgruine passt hervorragend zu den absolut köstlichen Speisen die hier angeboten werden...das sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Personal und eine Chefin/Chef die Ihre ganze Leidenschaft in dieses Restaurant gesteckt haben, runden ein Abendessen hier zu einem absoluten Highlight ab... Geheim Tipp: als Vorspeise unbedingt die Kartoffellsuppe probieren...6 von 5 Sternen von mir...

Unbedingt das Kerkermahl buchen …nichts für zaghafte Gemüter 😉, es könnte passieren, dass Köpfe rollen 🤪 …mehr verrate ich nicht 🤐

Mein Putensteak war sehr lecker. Ambiente eigentlich schön, aber etwas dunkel.

Goulashsoep en flamkuchen spek ui. Beide behoorlijk zout, maar smaakvol. Prijs-kwaliteit is OK. Leuke, onverwachtte plek, waar het restaurant meer trekpleister is dan de kasteelruine.

Leckeres Essen und sehr nettes Personal. Spareribs und Spieß sind sehr zu empfehlen
