For me, this is the best restaurant in Kastellaun. We've been coming back for several years now, and the quality of the food is consistently high.

An unforgettable experience in the most positive sense of the word! Despite being outside in the relatively cold (but in a tent where blankets had been provided), we still had an extraordinarily pleasant time. Thanks to the welcoming and friendly service, which is rather exceptional these days, and thanks to the top-notch culinary preparations. The festive consommé was a real, true celebration and even managed to rival my grandmother's hors catégorie consommés! I even inhaled the bottom of the plate while the rich aroma of the consommé with its deep flavor lingered, reminding me of my grandmother's cooking!!! The liver-stuffed potato balls and the spinach pasta were to die for and truly delicious! The coffee, however, was disappointing, not living up to the culinary experience of what came before, but hey, it was already so great that we forgive this flaw in the hope that next time we'll remedy it. Top!

Highly recommended. The salads were very good—well-presented and varied. The schnitzel plate was good, but poorly presented, and the pom-poms were rather average.

We came on a sathurday with 2 people without reservation for dinner. We were lucky they still had room. Unfortunatly we could not sit outside. At the same time there was a wedding party next to us ( we are very happy for the couple, congratulations) but because it was so full we had our food in about an hour. No compensation, nothing. İf anrestaurant knows this or from what İ read in the reviews if it is busy every time then you should hire more personell since more people served is also more people you can allow to eat. And most of the time they were busy with the people from the wedding party. Which İ also understand because they deserve the best on their day. But this would still not mean other people are also not important to serve. Also the food was brought separatly. İ got my side salad first on the table and 20 minutes later there was the rest. İn any case All food should come together. The ambiance looked very cosy and bourgonic and the personell was nice.

I only stayed for two nights, but it was simply delightful and lovingly decorated. Both the owner and all the staff were very friendly and polite. I felt very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was perfect. At breakfast and in the restaurant, you're greeted with little signs with your name on them. I think it's a really thoughtful touch, and I was delighted by it. I had to deduct one star for the room because, unfortunately, there were still traces of the previous occupant's mouthwash on the faucet.

Super nice rooms, excellent service, delicious food, and a great starting point for hikes, bike rides, and motorcycle tours. We've been guests here since day one and love coming back again and again.

We stayed there for our wedding overnight, and I was truly delighted. I also forgot my key during the night, and Mr. Brachtendorf went out of his way to let us in. Thank you so much again for that. The breakfast is varied, and the service was consistently friendly. I also arrived for the second breakfast right at the end, around 10, and was able to enjoy my meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Charming place. We went to the restaurant and I only have good things to say. A very pretty and well-maintained place, the decor was classic and cozy. The waitresses were attentive and very friendly. The food arrived quickly. The food was very well prepared and in good quantities; we left feeling well-fed. The desserts were delicious, and we had to share them because we all wanted to try them. Recommended!

Delicious food in a great atmosphere. Service was also excellent, with one minor exception: one of the waiters refused to answer our repeated questions, apparently because he didn't speak German. Another minor point deduction was the food order; we had to wait a bit longer after ordering drinks before ordering food. Since we were in a hurry, which we had also communicated, it was a bit annoying that the waiters walked right past us and told us to wait until we were ready, even though they weren't that busy. All in all, though, a great restaurant with delicious food and friendly service.

A beautiful, owner-managed hotel where friendly service is a top priority. We had a lovely room with remnants of the old city wall. There's a rich and delicious breakfast buffet with something for every taste. The hotel's own restaurant prepares delicious, fresh regional dishes. All in all, a very pleasant stay. We'll definitely be back.

Very good food and the price is right too

Unfortunately, I can't give it six stars. We had lunch here last Friday. All the dishes were delicious; we had the tagliatelle and the dumplings. Our daughter's children's dish was very lovingly prepared, beautifully presented, and came first, before the others, without us having to ask. The service was friendly. All in all, a very worthwhile visit.

An absolute recommendation: Guido and his team never fail to impress! We love coming here again and again and have never been disappointed! Everyone is simply super friendly and accommodating. You immediately feel very comfortable in the comfortably furnished inn, almost like at home. The food is always a delight: delicious, freshly cooked, and regional – you can taste the quality! Our children are particularly enthusiastic about it every time. Their absolute highlight is the festive soup! We can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and are already looking forward to our next visit!

A wonderful place to sit outside in the beer garden and enjoy a truly delicious meal. Everything was perfect here, from the welcome from the kitchen (wholemeal bread from the local bakery with homemade wild garlic curd), to the delicious side salad with a wide variety and the salad dressing just like my grandmother's, to the main course, the cloudy apple juice, the dessert, and the very friendly service. We didn't use the hotel, but the restaurant is highly recommended. Delicious, unique, and not the same old stuff you'd find everywhere. A great vegetarian selection, including vegan options. There's also a children's menu, and the kids are made to feel especially welcome. We'll definitely be back on our next stay in the Hunsrück!

I can and would only like to rate the restaurant and the service staff there! I had never experienced anything like that before. On April 19th and 8.25 p.m. the four of us wanted to eat something. The employee said when we came in that the kitchen closes at 9 p.m. That was still 35 minutes...... She suggested we ask. However, after some whispering with colleagues and briefly sticking her head in the kitchen door, she came to us again and told us to leave. The kitchen said they couldn't prepare anything anymore. There were still enough tables available and other guests were still eating. Completely incomprehensible and unacceptable for us. It's good that Kastellaun also has other good restaurants

We had a really nice spontaneous evening in the Old City Gate. As soon as we walked in we were greeted in a very friendly manner, which immediately created a pleasant atmosphere. The service was attentive and totally warm – just the right mix of professional and personal. You just felt comfortable. And the food? Simply great! The meat was incredibly tender, perfectly prepared, and the salad dressings were a real highlight - really tasty and full of flavor. Overall, a thoroughly successful evening. We'll definitely be back!

After the hike around and over the Geierlay Bridge we had dinner here. Even the reservation was successful, quick and friendly, even though we had to postpone twice. The hotel is centrally located in a very old house. The interior design is stylish and blends in with the old walls. The staff is very friendly and tries to fulfill even out-of-order requests. Everything is clean and well maintained. The bathrooms could be updated again.

Nice atmospheric restaurant in the center of Kastelaun. We came here by chance because we had to charge our car (there is an EnBW fast charger a few hundred meters away). They have a simple and clear menu. The dishes are of good quality (the salad with the main course was incredibly tasty). The service was also very friendly and hospitable!

We stayed at the city gate for an overnight stay. We were met with great friendliness right from the reception. We just found the building beautiful, it radiates so much coziness. The next morning we were met again by this unusual friendliness in the dining room (which hardly exists anywhere anymore). The breakfast is also completely sufficient. Unfortunately I still had one small drawback and that was a dog in the dining room!! I love animals but unfortunately I suffer from allergies and was sneezing a lot, which made me very uncomfortable compared to the other guests. I love animals very much, but I still think animals have no place in the dining room!!! But that doesn't change my rating for this sweet hotel with very nice staff. Absolutely recommended.

We booked a double room with half board for 7 nights and felt very comfortable in the Old City Gate. The atmosphere is totally rustic, the staff is ssseeehhhhrrrrr friendly. The working atmosphere seems to be very good. The 3-course surprise evening menus were very tasty and filling. Although we are not big soup fans, we can say that the pumpkin cream soup tasted great. If complaining is allowed at a very high level: The breakfast buffet could be a little more varied (e.g. scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages or small meatballs were missing). But we were able to order scrambled eggs individually in the morning. ... This hotel and the restaurant are highly recommended. ...

We had a small birthday party here with the closest family. However, we can't say anything about the rooms. We really liked the restaurant because it is very picturesquely decorated. The staff was courteous and the food was generally good, the beer and Federweisser delicious. In the summer I would personally like to sit outside and eat. However, I think you always have to make a reservation here as the restaurant is very popular. (we had already tried it several times, but without a reservation) So: clear recommendation from me. 👍

Guido and his team are simply amazing! We ended up there by chance as part of Nature One, tired and in a bad mood. With his warm and positive manner and his great (Rhineland) humor, Guido always gave us new courage to face life (and the Kirner from the Steinkrug was also helpful). Since then we've been there almost every year - sometimes to Nature One, but also as part of road trips or romantic weekends just with the wife. The kitchen is excellent, Gregor, and has often put a smile on our faces. Kind regards from the Cologne man!

They can't help it because there's a construction site right next door. And the fact that instead of a “Viennese style” schnitzel I got one with mushroom sauce can happen. I asked two companions whether my order was misleading, and both confirmed that I had clearly said "Viennese style". When the error was discovered during serving, I was left with 2 alternatives: either order again and wait 20 minutes and let my four companions eat without me (and then I alone) or accept the order as it was. I did the latter and I didn't like it very much (that's also my fault, I don't think the sauce goes well with the breaded schnitzel). But as I said - that can happen. However, I find it petty when they don't even offer me a coffee on the house as a small compensation. And for me that is a reason not to recommend the restaurant despite the good food.

We are here for the second time, the first time in 2020 under Corona conditions. We liked it so much that we definitely wanted to come back. Tried several times and was always fully booked, which we can understand. It is a wonderful and cozy hotel with a flair that you have to experience for yourself thanks to the antiquated furniture. As a guest you feel warmly welcome from the first moment and the food is amazing, the breakfast buffet, but especially the dinner (we had the surprise half board). A real culinary delight. As a cyclist (we use the time here to explore the area on our racing bikes) you can usually eat well, the portions here are really big enough. That's why we're glad that we're cutting back on the calories, otherwise we'd go home as "dumplings." The town center and the surrounding area are also very beautiful. We will definitely come back.

We had made a reservation a week in advance and then had dinner at the country inn “Altes Stadttor” around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. There wasn't much going on and we were warmly welcomed. After ordering the drinks, they arrived promptly. Between ordering the food and serving it, there were also a few slices of bread with spread. The food and drinks were good and worth the asking price. The view through the windows of the courtyards is not nice but it cannot be avoided either. All in all a great visit. There are enough free parking spaces a few meters away in the Edeka and Netto car parks.

Everything is okay, except for the acoustics. Due to the low ceilings, it is very loud there unless everyone is eating.
