Spargelhof von Laer - Restaurant & Hofcafé in Herford

There's a wedding and celebration here on Saturday. My wife and I decided to check out this farm restaurant out of curiosity. We ate something from the lunch buffet, but even though we were late, we were still able to get something. The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't have to pay the full amount that would otherwise have been due for the meal, which I thought was very fair. Now Saturday can come, and we're looking forward to it.

We ate at the buffet. It leaves nothing to be desired. A variety of buffet options (asparagus, game, duck, barbecue, etc.) are also available.

The food is okay to good, but unfortunately the lines are too long, and the drinks are also slow. There are better options.

Sensational. Everything was perfect. A fantastic property, beautifully situated. The food is fantastic and truly delicious. I found the melon and feta salad with mint interesting. Oh, and the candy bar was great too.

On July 18, 2025, we celebrated our wedding at the Hofrestaurant von Laer – including a non-denominational ceremony – and we can only say: It was an absolutely perfect day for us! The entire team truly did everything in their power to make this day unforgettable. A special thank you goes to Elisa, our event manager, who supported us not only on the day itself, but also throughout the entire preparation process. She gave her all to make us feel safe – and we did that 100%. We knew we could rely on her. Alexander von Laer himself was also fully committed and wasn't afraid to serve our guests, cut the meat, or help wherever support was needed. The waiters were attentive, friendly, and anticipated our every need. From the first minute to the last, everything was simply perfect. We received consistently positive feedback from our guests – and one sentence was repeated particularly often: "We've never eaten so well at a wedding!" The ambiance, the atmosphere, the service, and the food—everything was perfect and spot on. We would wholeheartedly recommend this venue to anyone. Worth every penny—honestly, we would have paid even more after this day. Many thanks to the entire team at Hofrestaurant von Laer for making our day so unique! ❤️

The food is incredibly delicious. We've been to the Smoker Buffet a few times, and it's always been great. The staff has always been very friendly and attentive. There's also a small playground.

I'm delighted that my experience with the Hofrestaurant von Laer in Herford is based on my role as a guest at two weddings so far! The location is simply fantastic for this purpose. A "relaxed," authentically rural, rural atmosphere in a very beautiful setting, framed by large meadows, fields, and forest, with a natural pond in the middle, completely melts away my everyday worries. Terraces on the buildings invite you to have conversations on sofas or at bar tables when the weather is nice. The counters where I can order my drinks were staffed by very friendly staff. I know that the music and table decorations were chosen based on recommendations from family. Both options deserve a mention here for their excellent work. (Please forward) I can't personally comment on the food selection because I have a swallowing disability and therefore can't comment on it. Other guests were full of praise, especially since the bride and groom had the opportunity to sample the food, which meant that the choices were predefined on the menus. Parking is available in the courtyard, close to the restaurant, making it easy to walk there. Children will find a lovely large playground and a large meadow to romp around in! The overall atmosphere as a guest at this location is ideal for my unforgettable time.

The BBQ buffet was delicious, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was good, despite it being packed. The only downside is that you have to wait a long time for the buffet.

An all-around beautiful location with great, delicious food and friendly service. We had to make a reservation about two months in advance, but it was worth it. A 5/5 if the dessert buffet hadn't run out of strawberries and vanilla ice cream an hour after opening. Given the farm's reputation, we were really looking forward to the strawberries. We'd love to come back anyway – maybe they'll have strawberries then.

We went to the BBQ buffet in the courtyard restaurant. The food was delicious, with a large selection of salads, side dishes, and meat/chicken options. Definitely recommended. Since our visit was on a Sunday, it was very busy, so we had to wait a bit at the buffet. The chef (a true restaurateur) recognized the situation and offered an aperitif to those waiting. :) We'll be back.

The buffet and the atmosphere were great! However, I had ordered a dessert and noticed while eating that it contained alcohol. Since I'm pregnant, I didn't finish it and asked the employee which types contained alcohol. I was immediately informed that I had probably gotten a chocolate tiramisu with amaretto, but that there was no alcohol in the other desserts. From the outside, the jar looked like regular chocolate cream, and the varieties were all mixed up and unlabeled (especially when it comes to alcohol, it should be labeled because of children, pregnant women, and illnesses). The desserts could simply be arranged and labeled by type to avoid such misunderstandings. Thanks to the employee who was able to enlighten me about the varieties :)

We were lucky enough to attend a wedding here as guests. There are no complaints whatsoever. Superb location. Incredibly friendly staff and always attentive. And the food (BBQ buffet) is truly fantastic!

A beautiful, idyllic setting and very friendly staff. (I hope they're paid accordingly.) The food is quite good, and the prices are too. There's a playground for children and also nice rooms for parties. The buffet is definitely more expensive than the à la carte menu. The asparagus is sold out immediately, and the BBQ is also quite good. The atmosphere is like being on vacation. Unfortunately, outside of the buffets, there are many weddings that aren't listed on the website. I've been there for free several times. It's better to call.

Great place, great food, nothing to complain about

The best German buffet I know. During asparagus season, it's almost always fully booked. But if the weather's nice, you can spontaneously sit on the terrace. You either have to make a reservation or you're lucky. Always a treat.

Unfortunately, more and more people are being let into the hall. The air quality is very poor, and the acoustics are very loud. The food wasn't as good as usual, and in some areas the selection was pared down. But the selection was still generally good. The asparagus wasn't as good this time, but that was probably due to the dry weather.

A delicious asparagus buffet! We come back every year and were there on the weekend. It's best to reserve early; it's worth it.

We had registered for the asparagus buffet and were not informed in advance that there was no asparagus yet. We were only given the information when we asked whether there was no asparagus at the buffet. Unfortunately, the service did not respond to constructive feedback from our side that we should be informed by email/SMS. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any response to my complaint email, so I decided to leave a review here. It wasn't a problem that there was no asparagus, but they could have at least told us about this when we arrived at the restaurant. Then many would have opted for a dish from the menu instead of paying for a buffet. Apparently it said on the website and on social media that there is no asparagus yet, but unfortunately we couldn't find any information there. Unfortunately, this interaction was very disappointing as we have only had positive experiences there so far.

If you would like a table, you should request very early. It's crowded, why because the food and the ambience is good. The only downside in my opinion is the acoustics.

The food is delicious, although some of the meat was left on display for a long time and therefore became dry... The gravel parking lot is not great for high-heeled women's shoes...

We had our Christmas party here with our club. The location is outside of Herford and very hidden. But afterwards a lovingly restored farm dehle awaited us. The dishes were varied and rich and tasted very good. The service was on point and we weren't left stranded. All in all, a very nice atmosphere, which was rounded off by appropriate decorations in the house and even outside at Christmas time. Everything fits here, simply great. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very nice country inn with great gastronomy. Optionally à la card or buffet. Good bourgeois. Alternatively, small outbuildings can also be booked for private events. Very nice atmosphere. I deducted one star for service because it was not possible to pay by credit card. I didn't have enough cash with me and I didn't have a debit card either. Friends I was there with helped me out.

Great location with a very cozy atmosphere, you can sit there very well. We were there for the game buffet, whereby the game selection was limited to wild boar and duck. Rehab and deer were not there at all, but pork fillet, chicken, delicious ox cheeks and delicious roulades. Vegetables and salads were also great!

Today we were with friends at the game buffet at Van Laer...the food was great, a great selection, no wishes were left unfulfilled...good service...we'd be happy to come back!

Great event location! Old farmhouse with a great terrace, beautiful garden and a small pond. There is a playground behind the restaurant and there is also a bouncy castle. The service is attentive and the food is delicious! All in all a great event!

Attended BBQ buffet. The atmosphere is great, a really great farm with free-roaming goats, a playground for children outside, a farm shop. Prices for the BBQ were €34.90 per person. - Buffet was modern & rich Cons: - no signage for the food/buffet - bad/unsuitable for allergy sufferers (our son has one severe nut allergy - could hardly read anything, especially not possible with marinades/seasonings of the food) Here we only have one attempt, then only an emergency doctor. - Meat selection average - I would have liked more spare rips requested - unfortunately not refilled, unfortunately missed - paid for it just like everyone else! Very disappointing :-( - Desserts as well, if "empty" then "empty" - there were Afterwards only 1x variety - also stupid. - no children's menu/dishes on the menu - Line at the buffet is far too long and very narrow - in the back it was a nuisance because there was warm food and dessert there, Our food was there in the meantime and we had to wait again cold - Service not so good, people rarely asked for drinks or the plates stood for a very long time (were in the fireplace room) Conclusion: We would have expected much more for the money. €34.90 is quite an announcement. There is no children's menu for small children who do not take part in the buffet. The selection and quality was very good, but we didn't have the opportunity to try the things that others had. Very limited for allergy sufferers like the ones mentioned above. Therefore only 3 stars out of 5.

Yesterday we had the lunch buffet (€26.50 per person). It was really VERY tasty, even for vegetarians. The service was very nice and the atmosphere was cozy. It was really busy, but there was no crowd at the buffet and you could chat at a normal volume. We'll definitely be back. 🙂👍🏻

The extensive buffet based on regional foods is highly recommended. The food is super tasty, especially the smoked meat. The service staff is very friendly, but could visit guests a little more often. The restaurant is in a very stylishly restored half-timbered house with an attached spacious terrace that offers a clear view of the nearby forest.

My children invited me and I was very happy about it and would visit again at any time.

A good restaurant, with a large and tasty buffet. With a lot of choice of different dishes. Definitely worth a visit. For Buffett we have almost 35€ per person. paid, drinks excluded. A very busy restaurant, with an advance reservation you have to try in several weeks. But sometimes, if you're lucky, you might get a free table outside on the terrace even without a reservation.

I went here for a school dinner and the food was good. They have a buffet and a menu as well. They also have a candy buffet.They hunt wild animals and you can eat wild animals meat.

That's all well and good, but waiting in line for a long time at the All You Can Eat Buffet BBQ is just not possible!

We visited Laer's restaurant near Herford last Sunday and were completely thrilled. Location and ambience: The restaurant impresses with its beautiful location and bright, clean rooms. We particularly liked the various terraces, which offer comfortable seating and invite you to linger in the sun. Service: The service was very friendly and accommodating. The boss also looked after the guests personally and asked if everything was OK, which we found to be very attentive. Food and drinks: The buffet was extensive and offered something for every taste. It was always freshly refilled. There was also ice cream, coffee and cake, which we also enjoyed very much. Overall we were very satisfied and would like to come back.
