SOJO Restaurant in München

Absolutely unprofessional! Despite a reservation confirmation via email, we found the door locked last night. There's no information about the holiday season or closure on the website or at the restaurant entrance... It's simply a shame how they treat customers here.

The former Sojo, serving Asian cuisine, has become Paulo's Amazonas Bar & Cuisine. The ambiance here is truly exceptional. You can see many beautiful details in the interior. This restaurant, located in the former Deutsches Theater, is very large, with plenty of space in the back, even for larger groups. Plenty of (artificial) greenery and colorful lighting create a pleasant atmosphere. They serve Mexican/South American cuisine. Our two burgers and the burrito pollo were delicious. The burgers would have been a bit better with some tomato slices and salad. The prices for the dishes and drinks are reasonable, considering the downtown location and the great ambiance. The service was good and unobtrusive.

It immediately became my favorite restaurant. Everything was perfect.

We loved our tacos & burrito. Appetizer of fried shrimp was delicious. Attractive decor if rather subdued atmosphere. The staff were efficient but rather unfriendly.

Food: very very generic and overpriced. Atmosphere: colorful, crowded, but interesting, though it feels like a Kare showroom. Service: fine, but pushy, could be more polite and professional. Bottom line: someone took over the old Sojo restaurant, changed the menu (to much worse) and staff (faster, at least). I won’t be going there again.

The menu is different from the one on Google Maps and hasn't been updated. Prices are very high. Service is average. Some dishes don't taste good. Entrecote steak 2/10 Caesar salad 9/10 Sweet potato fries 8/10 Fries with cheese 9/10 Chicken tacos 7/10 Beef tacos 2/10 Beef tacos are steak pieces. Appetizers: Nachos 9/10

We discovered it by chance while passing by. We immediately liked the atmosphere, so we spontaneously stopped in on our way back to round off a great day in Munich. The cocktails were delicious (even non-alcoholic)! The service and atmosphere were impressive across the board! Definitely worth a visit!

We visited this restaurant during our New Year's holiday. You know, it was a truly pleasant experience. First, the atmosphere of mystery and art that surrounds you from the very first moment you enter the restaurant. The interior is spacious and open. An intelligent, tall waiter welcomes guests like a magician. His courtesy and clear manners inspire respect, calm, and relaxation. The food was exceptionally delicious. Someone came to our table and tactfully asked if we were enjoying the food. We had the impression it might have been the chef. We were very pleased by this attention. This is the perfect place for cultural relaxation. I would definitely visit this restaurant again the next time I'm in Munich.

Burrito was too greasy swimming in oil, too much mayonnaise on the sweet potato fries and on the burrito! (they should ask if you want mayonnaise or not). Ceasar salad was average. The Service was good.

So where do we begin? We visited Paulos today before the theater performance at 1:00 p.m. When we asked if the table was still free, the waiter gave us a big huff. We sat down after 10 minutes, but he came back and told us what we wanted—well, the menu. He never came back except to take the money (more on that later). We then ordered from a woman who only spoke English, which was difficult for my grandmother, a native Munich resident. Well, our order: 3 cappuccinos, a Spezi, and a Lillet (we actually wanted something to eat, but it was difficult without a card). After another 20 minutes, we got 3 cappuccinos and the Lillet—no sign of Spezi! Running out of time, we wanted to pay, but the waiter, who never came with the card, finally came to take the money. All in all 25 euros, his answer was, well we want to pay separately, he said 15 euros for the cappuccino and 10 euros for the Lillet, we paid or rather the person who paid for the Lillet said to him the menu says 9.50 and not 10 he then said yes exactly, then it dawned on us that a cappuccino for 5 euros is expensive, we looked it up and it said 3.90 on the menu so we called the waiter and then it started, reluctantly he gave us the money back, then denied that the price on the menu was wrong (we looked it up online) on his tablet it said 4.10 well then 4.10 but not 5 euros, so I'd say he thought to himself, you stupid tourists, I'll show you what's what, sorry but this is fraud and it really should be reported! Disgraceful shop, never again and the day was ruined!

We stopped by for a few drinks late in the evening after the musical. The service, drinks, and atmosphere were excellent and highly recommended.

Scam business. The restaurant was taken over at short notice some time ago. It was formerly called Sojo Sushi Bar and is now a rip-off restaurant. The meal cost €58, and the card charge was €120. The waiter levied the same fraudulent charges at neighboring tables. Unfortunately, we only noticed it two days later. Without a receipt, you can't prove the incident to the police, so my advice is to always ask for the receipt. This place is a complete scam.

An ideal location for dining outdoors under huge umbrellas. South American cuisine in Munich, on the site of the Deutsches Theater, sheltered from passing traffic, guaranteed peace and quiet. And plenty of fresh air to avoid suffering from the heat. A cozy spot. Don't hesitate.

Gorgeous place with amazing food. They made a little change for my friend, which was appreciated, the steak tasted amazing, and everything looked great. Great atmosphere, nice waiter, and they know english pretty well. Cant recommend enough.

A large restaurant with uniquely designed zones and a creative ambiance. The sushi was excellent. It wasn't cheap, but not overpriced for downtown Munich. Despite the restaurant being full and only two servers, we received our drinks and food quickly.

We had my wife's birthday celebration here with family and friends. We all had a great evening and enjoyed the lovely food.

Recommended place for tacos. The churros dessert was also very delicious. The only recommendation I have is to better control the illumination because it was very dark. I asked to dim up the lights a bit because it was dark. Also, please ask if food is spicy because almost everything has a bit of chili. So, always ask upfront.

Highly recommended. The Argentinian steak in particular was very good. The ambience is also very nice, so it is highly recommended to pass the time until the performance at the Deutsches Theater, especially because it is right next door.

Drinks are great and also the burgers are great. Love the Ambiente and than go to the Theaters.

We haven't eaten so badly in a long time. Soggy burger, completely over-salted salad and tacos. We felt sick from the food. Funny furnished with all sorts of things from the Kare. The service was very friendly and attentive.

What a spot!! Absolute beautiful decor and the menu was amazing, I wanted to get everything. It looked so good that I forgot to take many pictures. 100% recommend and I will revisit when I am back in Munich. Kind staff as well. Bit on the pricey side but you get the value out of your money🤩

First of all: the staff/service was very helpful. Food was good, but I don't think the value for money was good. I mean I had fried fish and seafood. There is hardly any craftsmanship involved and the price was too high for that. Unfortunately the cocktails were a disaster. I first ordered a mezcalita (admittedly not on the menu, but nothing other than a margarita with mezcal instead of tequila). The first one wasn't a mezcalita. We kindly made a new one. It was much better, but it could be even better. After that I wanted a Pisco Sour. Unfortunately my drink couldn't be identified as a Pisco Sour. Again much too sweet, acid was missing, protein and bitter too. The attentive service then offered me that they would like to try it again on the house, but unfortunately I had already lost all confidence in the cocktail skills. Good music and nice decor. Probably wouldn't go again.

Chic ambience, unfortunately the price-performance ratio for the food isn't quite right.

I can't say anything about the food as we only had one cocktail. However, I have to say that I am very happy about it after seeing the toilet. That was really an imposition. Three cabins and all three in a catastrophic condition. One didn't even have a cistern cover on it anymore and urine scale or limescale removers probably haven't seen the toilet bowls for years. It's a shame, because it's actually a really nice location. Maybe a little overloaded, but it has something. The service was relatively neutral. Neither particularly nice, but not unfriendly either. The cocktails were okay. I've had better ones, but I've also had worse ones. All in all, I have to say that it wouldn't be worth another visit to me.

Price performance doesn't fit here. Average food at inflated prices. Guacamole tastes like it was bought from a discount store. Parts of the food were missing and were only brought when asked when it was already cold.

The taco pollo was very juicy, tasty and aromatic. I can only recommend it.

Worst food I've eaten in a long time.

Just bad, 70€ for cold, tough meat, music way too loud, forgotten guacamole, small portions for exorbitant prices. And a stomach ache during that time. Complete rip off

The music was too loud at first, but they turned it down after asking. Food was okay. The atmosphere was a bit "pretty" It's okay for before and after a theater visit. Many of the comments seem to be referring to the previous one 😳 By the way, I wonder if the spritzer glasses really hold 0.4 liters...

Only the music was good, the entrecote was not medium as requested but well done, the food was cold, drinks were forgotten and only came when asked, ultimately long after the food had already arrived. And that even though only 5 other tables were occupied. Unfortunately, it has little to do with Latin American food. Unfortunately, given the high prices, absolutely not recommended.

The ambience of the restaurant is really beautiful - the decoration is tasteful and creates a pleasant atmosphere that invites you to linger. An effort has definitely been made here to create a welcoming environment. The service was friendly and attentive, which initially made the stay positive. Unfortunately, the food did not confirm these good impressions. The dishes were disappointing: the food overall was over-salted, the ceviche was overcooked (which shouldn't happen with a dish of this type), and unfortunately the fish didn't taste fresh. Unfortunately, that greatly spoiled the enjoyment. The restaurant is highly recommended for a drink or a relaxed evening in a beautiful atmosphere. However, if you are looking for a high-quality dinner, you will probably be disappointed here. It's a shame, because the potential is definitely there

One of the must unprofessional places on earth , from a shisha bar to an asian nightmare to amazonian hell . never know where to start , extremely unprofessional service and food would rather give to a dog or the drinks with cheapst existing ingredients ever and the final thump down you pay money as u would be in 2 star restaurant ..... by the way nothing fresh

Food was very fatty. The fish platter was simply frozen and charging 24€ for it can only be described as an impudence. The two of us paid €85 for two fries, a burrito and deep-fried frozen fish. I would recommend everyone to go to Burger King instead, you get less stomach ache for your money! (Beer 6.10€)

We were here on February 22, 2025 and only because we still had a voucher from Sojo (which was closed). We came in spontaneously around 4 p.m., there were only two tables occupied and the waitress asked us for a reservation. We didn't have one and it took her two minutes to tell us that we could "only" stay here until 9 p.m. After my Sarti Spritz was only half full, I asked if the glasses would be filled here. The waitress then replied that the glasses were not filled. Yes, that's true, but the glass was filled as if I had ordered 0.2L of wine. She then brought the glass back to me with not even a sip of water left.... The food was an absolute disaster. The plate looked like we were served Leftsovers, not prepared with any love at all. The tacos were completely soggy & not at all crispy, as they should be. The meat was just slapped onto the plate. We couldn't finish the meal as it was really inedible. This has nothing to do with Mexican at all!!!!

Ambience and service were great. Unfortunately, there were many more dishes listed on the online menu than on the on-site menu. Unfortunately, there are very few vegetarian dishes to choose from and the prices are really a bit too high.

Terrible customer service, all the waiters except the girl were unfriendly. We waited for food for almost an hour and a half, no one tried to bring us at least some kind of snack other than bread. The cuisine also leaves much to be desired, everything tastes the same, as if there were no spices at all.

Had a reservation, but they couldn't give me the table that I chose. I ordered 2 meals (just x2 tacos) at 8:35pm and waited till 10:05pm. Then I asked the waitress how much longer we'll have to wait and that we would leave if the food doesn't arrive in the next 10 minutes. Well and it did not arrive. After that "complaint" the people next to us got a bowl of tortilla chips, for the long waiting time, even though they arrived one hour after us. Luckily the food arrived just before I canceled the order. It was very good and if all the other factors weren't that bad, I would recommend this restaurant. But if you're hungry and don't want to spent min. 2 hours it really ain't it.

We waited over an hour for our food and then we were treated like we were small children and the waiter was also really unfriendly And where we had paid he said that it would cost me 31.60 and then he came back with the receipt and it said 34.60 and he wanted the rest of the money

The menu card that you see on this page does not match what you can get in the restaurant. We got taco-mexican food. The selection was ok.

The stars are only for the ambience. The only competent waiter in the shop who was willing to work was the nice waiter with short hair and dark glasses, unfortunately I don't know his name but he was great but unfortunately not responsible for us. It felt like no waitress in this shop had the feeling of being responsible for anything 🙂 other than standing around disinterested and bored or chatting with the bartender...waited 20 minutes for bread after asking. After the starter, we waited 15 minutes until a waiter deigned to ask if we wanted our main courses. Glasses were only cleared away upon request. Nobody asked if we wanted something more to drink. The main course and side dish were burnt. When I reported this, the waitress didn't really care. “Ah okay” was the only answer and the question whether we wanted to tip less. 🙂 👍 We also had to wait forever for cutlery. The food itself was very unseasoned, as mentioned burnt and not good.

Review: A Mexican Nightmare Sometimes you experience culinary revelations in restaurants - unfortunately this time it was of the negative kind. An evening that was supposed to be characterized by spicy, authentic flavors turned out to be a first-class taste disappointment. Let's start with the obvious: spices? None. Every dish tasted as if every form of flavor had been removed as a matter of principle. Rather than being fresh and citrusy, the ceviche was drowning in mayo – an affront to everything ceviche stands for. The beef tartare was half avocado, which not only completely ruined the texture, but also destroyed any balance in the dish. And then the tacos. There were three pieces on the menu - two tortillas were brought to the table. Two. And again: no spices, no sophistication, just bland boredom. The guacamole was so coarse that you sometimes bit into half an avocado. A creative interpretation? Probably more like sloppiness in the kitchen. As if that wasn't bad enough, some of the food was also burnt. The fries? Charred, hard sticks that no longer bore any resemblance to edible potato pastries. The pork belly? A tough, charred mass that would only have been useful as a doorstop. Absolutely not edible. The cocktails were okay, but definitely not a consolation given the prices. Speaking of prices: completely excessive for what was offered here. Regarding service: The store was full of disinterested staff who obviously didn't feel responsible for anything. Except for the male waiter with the short hair – he was the only person who was actually working. The rest? A prime example of lack of commitment and listlessness. Conclusion: If you're craving real Mexican food, you should give this place a wide berth. Lovelessness is served here - and at a price that spoils the last bit of your appetite.

A real insider tip – fantastic bar with a great bartender!! I was recently in Paulos and absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is cozy and stylish at the same time - just the right place to end the evening in a relaxed manner. The furnishings are designed with great attention to detail, so that you immediately feel at home. A special highlight is the bartender! (I think his name was Rasheed). Not only can he mix excellent drinks, but he can also create a great atmosphere with his friendly manner. He always has a recommendation that suits your taste perfectly. You can immediately tell that he does his work with passion. The drinks menu leaves nothing to be desired - from classic drinks to creative creations that you won't find anywhere else. I can particularly recommend the Pornstar Martini, which impressed with its fresh ingredients and great presentation. All in all a great place for a relaxing evening with friends or a special occasion. I'll definitely be back and can only warmly recommend Paulos! See you soon !

Very attentive waiter and super tender ribs

The restaurant looked very inviting and had a pleasant atmosphere inside. However, we were left standing at the entrance and ignored. Once we were seated it took an excessively long time to be served. Afterwards the gentleman apologized…but it was still inappropriate. The food looked and tasted impressive, but it was only lukewarm, which made it seem like it had just been warmed up. The food was also served quickly, which confirmed for us.

The restaurant has probably reopened. Older reviews refer to the predecessor - 4.4 stars therefore seem to be borrowed from the predecessor... Anyone expecting a culinary highlight with South American cuisine will be disappointed. Tex-Mex does it better. The waitress was very friendly. The kitchen couldn't keep up with the orders, even though the restaurant wasn't fully occupied. We had to wait 45 minutes for our starter, the main course also took a long time. The waiters could be more discreet in their conversations/discussions about where which food goes. The store is beautifully and modernly furnished. In my opinion, there is still a lot of room for improvement here.

Changing the concept and adopting the ratings is a bit absurd. The 5 stars were for the SOJO. Original review: Very good and creative cuisine! I also liked the relaxed atmosphere, the staff were allowed to joke around and have fun at work, and the service always came with a smile on their faces. I'll definitely come back when I'm in Munich.

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and even though it was very busy, the volume was pleasant. I had taco pollo and my friend had rib's and we were both very satisfied. The food was very tasty and the service was also very good. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

After 1.5 hours we had to leave without food. To find out that our food wasn't ready, we had to ask twice to even get any feedback. As compensation there wasn't even drinks on the house. It's a shame that you can't give 0 stars

The staff were initially very nice and accommodating, but over time they seemed more and more stressed, which unfortunately became apparent in their service to customers. The food was mediocre (starter very poor, main course and dessert were ok). We paid €150 for two people - unfortunately the food and service weren't good enough for that.

First of all, the ambience was okay. The location is easily accessible and it is modernly furnished, but the same music plays constantly during dinner. We were there today on New Year's Eve and the price of the menu is not justified at all. Price-performance equals 0. We each had a starter and a small main course, neither of which was anything special and didn't taste particularly good either. The menu alone cost €69, drinks are not included. On top of that there is the poor service, forgetful employees who you have to tell where which food was ordered. Were very scared! Not recommended

I'm speechless, I've never visited such a bad restaurant in Munich. The service was extremely overwhelmed (despite low customer traffic). The table next to us, which came clearly after us, was served first. After ordering, the employee came three more times to ask again what we had ordered. In addition, the food was regularly brought to the wrong tables. We had to wait far too long for the food; here, too, the waitress said half an hour before the food was finally brought that the food would come “immediately”. The price was incredibly overpriced for the mediocre taste of the food. The only positive thing about this restaurant is the ambience, although here too it has to be said that the tables are so close to each other that you think you are sitting at a table for 6 instead of the desired table for 2. The guests around us were also visibly dissatisfied. We will definitely not eat here again and can NOT recommend the restaurant.

The food was not as expected. The starter and main menu hardly reflected the Google reviews. Service from the staff was filled with surprises. The waitress accidentally tipped the food on us, which we understood, but there was no compensation whatsoever. We also asked if the staff could charge our cell phone, to which the waitress said no problem and after an hour when I walked past I saw the cell phone just lying on the table and not charging. After asking several times, I received it back empty.

Some confusion here since a lot of the high reviews seem to be of the previous sushi place. One of the things we ordered was the mushroom ragu taco (for 20eur), which was just sad looking and tasting (see photo). Also a 10% service charge / tip seems to have been added.

I don’t understand the good reviews. The ambiance does not fit with the food at all (and neither do the prices). We paid 85€ for something we consider bistro quality. It was burnt, bland and felt like it was prepared by an amateur cook. Oh and FYI photos of the food on google don’t match the actual menu anymore (sushi vs tacos?) - very misleading.

The food is incredibly good and the ambience is great. But I've really never experienced such bad service. The staff is impossible. We really thought we were in the wrong film. That's the only reason I would never go there again. EVERYONE (except the bartender with the dark long hair) was totally unfriendly and had no idea how service worked. At first you were greeted very unfriendly by a blonde employee. Several things in the order were simply forgotten. After we had to point this out several times, they didn't apologize and just said "I forgot, there's so much going on today" (there were maybe 5 tables occupied and a lot of staff there). Maybe the dark-haired colleague could have helped. However, she was busy looking arrogantly at the guests and putting on make-up in the women's toilette.

The furnishings are modern and tastefully designed, which immediately creates a pleasant atmosphere. The service was simply outstanding - the staff were attentive, friendly and always tried to make our stay unforgettable. The food was also very tasty. Every dish was not only a visual delight, but also a true dream in terms of taste. From the starter to the delicious main courses - everything was prepared to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant! A perfect place for a special evening or simply to treat yourself.

Unfortunately the food is not recommended, nothing special, far too expensive! The menu is very clear. The food at Sojo was extremely tasty, it's a shame that the quality has deteriorated so much after the change.

Sojo used to be here, but the owner changed and now you can find Amazona's Bar & Cuisine here. The ambience is nice, but it was taken over from Sojo, which was known for its great interior and where I felt more comfortable. The food tastes good, but some portions are too small and don't fill you up. Typically in Munich, the price is rather high. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We had to wait an hour for our food and had theater tickets and were worried that we wouldn't get our food on time. The whole organization of the restaurant needs to be better. If you always have to wait so long for your food, the restaurant won't be able to last long. The restaurant owner (at least the gentleman seemed like the boss) asked the table next to us if it was tasty and if they were satisfied. When one of the women answered no, he walked away without a word... There doesn't seem to be any ability to take criticism, although it would be important here to get the restaurant running.

Very nice atmosphere, but unfortunately the service ruins everything. Not everything we ordered was brought to us, but in the end everything was put on the bill... After our complaint, we were offered to pack the missing things to take away instead of correcting the bill. After we had the struggle with the correct invoice behind us and we finally paid by card, it suddenly said that the payment didn't work, and without speaking to me the card reader was in front of me again. Luckily I checked my bank app, otherwise I would have paid €140 twice!

The food was okay, but we waited an hour for our aperitif, then another hour for our starter. At that point we were already thinking about just paying and leaving. After asking several times, we finally received our main course after 3 hours. This was quite tasty but not outstanding either. The price-performance ratio is more than bad. Overall we had the feeling that the staff were more than overwhelmed, even though it was relatively empty even on a Saturday evening.

The food was very good! Unfortunately the service wasn't good. Appetizer came before drinks, but had to wait a very long time for everything else! You get the feeling that the service can't keep up...when we were there it was only moderately busy!
