My wife, our son and I had dinner here at the “Sion Bräues Traditionsbrauhaus” in the evening on Friday, February 7th, 2025. We originally considered another nearby restaurant. However, this restaurant was so crowded and guests stood in long lines to get a place to eat. That was too complicated for us and we were hungry. So we tried Google and on the way to a suggested restaurant we happened to pass this traditional brewery “Sion Bräues” and actually managed to get a table. Despite carnival time. What luck, because we were greeted in an extremely friendly manner by the two ladies serving and the boss himself and taken to the only table still available. The old brewery furnishings alone radiated absolute cosiness. The menu left no desire for traditional cuisine and dishes. Starting with Halver Hahn with house-style oil, Rhenish sauerbraten, homemade goulash with spaetzle and salad, Himmel und Äd, grilled knuckle and beef roulade (approx. 200g), etc. everything was on offer... and it was all soooo delicious. We had Rhenish sauerbraten, grilled knuckle and homemade goulash. First of all, a few Kölsch and the mood couldn't be better. We ate very well, drank a very good Kölsch and had a really nice evening. Unfortunately, I couldn't pay by card and since I didn't have much cash with me, I had to go to the nearest ATM. It wasn't particularly pleasant, but otherwise really highly recommended.

Wonderfully traditional brewery. The food tastes perfect. The waitresses and the landlord are on their toes. This is how you imagine a Cologne tavern!

A small brewery where the tables are too close together and you always have to be careful. The service was very nice and accommodating. The orders also came to the table very quickly. Unfortunately, my schnitzel "Viennese style" was not baked evenly (you can see that in the photo) and was generally pounded to different thicknesses. The fries were ok. The side salad had more dressing than fresh vegetables - it was less tasty. After the visit everything smelled like frying oil, which also bothered me. However, the portions are huge and the prices are good. So you can visit the restaurant, but there are points for improvement.

You have to take a close look at the invoice and have it handed over to you. We didn't use the printout because what we ate was read to us. Nevertheless, the debit was €8.80 higher than we had consumed. There was no response to an explanation email.

The food was tasty and quickly served at the table. Attentive service served us quickly brought new Kölsch. Prices are good. All in all, you can't complain.

In terms of price, it is rather more expensive compared to comparable restaurants. Schnitzel and fries ok, both from the deep fryer. If the food is served five minutes after you order, you know straight away. Unfortunately heaven and earth are not “heavenly” at all for the price. Mashed potatoes clearly out of the bag, which was also confirmed by the service. Not even spiced up with a little milk and nutmeg. Simply mix the bag bluntly and serve. Cheap applesauce also from the bag. And that for a whopping €18. Service inattentive even though there was almost nothing going on. You had to ask for Kölsch. Just as bad, I can eat cheaper somewhere else.

Extremely unfriendly host who seems to have no manners. The rest of the service was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, the very negative demeanor of the “boss” is largely remembered

Please avoid if you are tourist!! The server/owner insisted we pay cash, even though we see they have a card reader which are being used actively with locals. We felt very discriminated. We had to go outside all the way to find an atm.

Hello, we were there at around 10 p.m. on a Saturday. The landlord where we went into the restaurant was no longer sane. We were drinking a beer and we noticed that a little mouse was running under the tables in the back area towards the toilet... I alerted the waiters and left. Not recommended at all!!!!

Never go there if you are a tourist or don't know enough German. We have been forced to pay with cash even though we had the dataphone in front of our face and a lot of stickers throughout the restaurant indicating that you could pay with card/contactless They have given us a handwritten invoice and they have set the price they want even seeing that the other local customers have paid by card without problem and even lower amounts. The staff does not speak English or at least the person who understood us and when we told him that we did not have cash, he told us to go get cash to pay. If you are a tourist, never go there because it will do the same to you, and if you think I am exaggerating, look at the other reviews and you will see that they say the same thing as me, it is a shame that the food was good, it ended in a bad experience.

Wirt wanted to upset us! “Accidentally” had €100 more on the lid than what we had drunk. We were still able to pay for food with a card, but after the shift change we were no longer able to pay for the Kölsch. Pure rip-off shop, what a shame!

Being brought to a table with a smile on a Friday evening without a reservation. That's just nice. Wonderfully uncomplicated atmosphere. Food tasty, not special. In addition to meat, also vegetarian and vegan dishes. I enjoyed it.

Service was nice and good. Unfortunately the rump steak was too firm. Meat was not good as the herb butter was tasteless. I think 74 euros for two rump steaks with 2 Kölsch and 3 lemon drinks is too much. It was a shame that the decoration where it used to be was taken down. We'll prefer the rump steak again next time Deutzbrauerei Eating out. I hope you get it back like it was on my previous visit.

We had a fantastic afternoon at Sion Bräues traditional brewery! Our whole group loved the delicious food and warm service from Andrea. The traditional atmosphere and the freshly tapped Kölsch made the experience even more perfect. And the support with the “suspender repair” with a Cologne “Schlöpi” was of course a highlight for our carnival troupe! The team was super friendly and took great care of us. We ended up here by chance before the Kölner Haie's home game and had no expectations of the restaurant. I have rarely been so positively surprised in my life. The service was very quick and friendly and the food was absolutely outstanding. Many schnitzels have already found their way into my stomach, but none of them even remotely as good as this “Viennese style” schnitzel. Really very, very tasty and recommended. We'll definitely be back!!

We wanted to eat something before the Kölner Haie ice hockey game and ended up here by “coincidence”. We had schnitzel and goulash and it was by far one of the best meals we've had in a restaurant recently. The lady in service was super friendly and very quick. Absolute recommendation for the Sion Bräues traditional brewery!

We came here again last week and had dinner. The food is good. Good quality. Make a reservation if you want to eat there on a Saturday evening. It was full. Since we were 8 people, we had of course made a reservation. Very friendly service.

It was really nice weather you could sit outside but there were no people there. So there was no feeling of well-being. If there had been more going on I would have stayed longer. So I limited myself to eating and started walking again.

Very good sauerbraten. Roast, sauce, dumplings and also the Ruude Kappes: all very tasty.

Unfortunately we weren't able to get to know the brewery. The waitresses walked past the tables blindly and deafly, even though we tried to make ourselves noticed. Not all the tables were occupied. After about 30 minutes we gave up.

Well, we had a get-together there. We don't get drunk in the brewery. We got three Kölsch in two hours. And they were without foam and bottom line. And they weren't cool either. For 2€ a crappy deal... The food wasn't great either. Schnitzel tasted ok. €17. Fries and salad were included. All other food was clearly too little on the plate for the price. We were not satisfied with the service. The first Kölsch the comb had already been spilled on the shoulder of a member. Put it there and you can still drink it. Didn't get a new Kölsch. impudence Completely understaffed only one person for tap and food serving. Reinforcements came later. Didn't make things complete either. We won't be coming back and can't recommend it. There is better food and drink somewhere else.

The brewery seems a little old, but the food is very tasty and the vegetarian offering has recently been expanded. Price-performance is right. A classic case of being more than appearances 😉

Service overwhelmed and disgraceful. -When we approached the waitress after waiting for over half an hour (to place an order), we were rudely told: “I can’t do more than walk” and were then ignored. I've never experienced anything like that. Never again.

My Cologne goulash pot was very tasty. A thank you to the chef. Although there was only one person in service, she was very polite, friendly and courteous. A big thank you for this at such a late hour. If you are looking for a quiet inn, you should stop by there.

Was there for the first time. The food was very tasty! I really liked the summer offer!

-SCAM ALERT- If you're a tourist, don't go here! The (presumable) owner starts off as very friendly/funny, but when the bill comes, the mood quickly changes. He will give you a handwritten bill, with marked up and/or made up prices, so your final bill will be much higher than you would expect (in our case, he calculated our final bill 40-50 euro higher than it should be, when compared to the menu card). When coming in, he will start off saying "cash only". But during our time we have seen multiple customers pay with their card with no problem. Also, they were getting actual receipts from the register, instead of some random incoherent handwritten bill... After witnessing people pay with their card, we asked again if the card machine is working again and he said no. Peculiar. Because we were suspicious of this handwritten bill, we started calculating the final price ourselves using the prices on their menu card. Whilst we were doing this, he saw him getting pissed, saying some things in German we didn't understand. The price we calculated was indeed 40-50 euro less than what he came up with on his handwritten bill. When we got up to pay this calculated price we saw him discussing with (presumably) another tourist couple that also received a handwritten bill. We paid the amount we calculated ourselves and he didn't seem to object very much. Because we just wanted to get out, he got to keep the change we should have received, but it certainly was not deserved! The food was actually very good, but it is not worth getting ripped off over. Stay away!

We were pushed as a group into the back room without any further attention and when asked we were ignored at all even though we drank with 8 people and also paid. Something strange and when I asked they gave me a beer and thought that would settle the matter without an apology Leaving the beer will not go back to this store because it's not worth criticizing at all, I'm pretty disappointed

The food (beef roulade) was very tasty, but it was still the first and last time I visited this brewery. The service seemed listless and confused. I ordered a Coca Cola Zero to drink, this was also approved, but apparently there was no Coca Cola to drink, but Pepsi. It would have been nice to have pointed that out! When I wanted to pay and indicated this with my raised hand, I was skillfully ignored. I had to make 2-3 attempts and stretch my entire arm towards the sky and stubbornly maintain eye contact until one lady finally had mercy and told the other waitress that I wanted to pay. This attitude is unacceptable and disrespectful. Once and never again!

I had the kölsches krüstvhengulasch mit brot, and it was very good, thicc saus with good mean. The german bartender was the best. I dont speak german to well, but he was very patent. I will never come back to koln but i have to to get here again

Not recommended for tourists or if you don’t have a respectable level of fluency in German. The food portions were sizeable and pretty tasty, and the beer was decent enough Kölsch. However when it came to paying, the owner (presumably) added an extra €45 after the tip for a table of 6. When we politely questioned this and did a breakdown of the bill, he started shouting “my money, my money” and slamming the table, threatening to call the police if we didn’t pay the full amount that he seemed to have made up on the spot. A younger waiter who spoke good English initially said that we could pay with card, but then got worried and asked if we could pay with cash instead. We ended up paying in full and leaving as quickly as we could, but I highly don’t recommend anyone goes there again.

Unfortunately we were simply ignored here. There was certainly a lot going on, but when the service staff runs past you several times, stressed and annoyed, something seems to be wrong. After half an hour we left again.

We were there yesterday and all three ate the knuckle with fries. It was okay, you can sit there well and the service was very busy but friendly. But... all three of us have had stomach bugs since last night 😅 It's a shame... that was probably the first and only visit there.

The owner of the brewery is an arrogant and mannerless person! Just today, during the European Championship game between Switzerland and Germany, he came to the ice cream parlor opposite and stood in front of the television with 30 people. He passed Waiting to do this in front of the television and after politely asking if he didn't want to disrupt the public viewing any further, there was only one stupid comment. The gentleman is the owner of this brewery and has no manners whatsoever. I would never support a guy like that by visiting. The man is not from Cologne!

Proper German bierstube. You should try the crispy haxe. Seriously. You will end up with a heart attack the morning after, thinking "yeah, worth it.".

We ate and drank very deliciously before a comedy brewery tour, but there was only a small selection of food. Presumably because a major event was taking place in the premises from that day onwards. The subsequent tour was very fun and informative. Hajo did a great job and had a good time.

As the other reviews say, service is non-existent. You wait 15 minutes until you are served and then another 15 minutes until your drinks are delivered, half of which are wrong (for two people!!) Food is mediocre as you would expect from a brewery.

Where to start here, I haven't eaten there and I won't. I can tell you the reason. I can see how the goods are stored without cooling in the stairwell. I got to know the unfriendly staff myself. The trade inspection office should take a look at these things and the health department and they should go into the basement. I've seen a lot of things and I have no interest in getting food poisoning. How can you say everything is ok dirty, you should clean properly inside and out. I've already eaten in a few breweries but there wasn't anything like that there. Whether at lunchtime or in the evening it is always full and the friendly staff are especially important

Rustic brewery with home-style dishes and Kölsch. The operation may seem a bit rough to some people, but it somehow fits into the picture. I liked it. Quality of food and drinks was okay. Unfortunately it was a bit chilly in the room.

We waited forever to order and then we went to the front to pay because no one came. We even stood at the front and had to wait. Unfortunately it was the last time

We made a reservation for 12 people but tables were only provided for 10 people that could fit 8 people. The online menu is out of date and you have to add an average of 3 EUR for each dish. Everyone can judge for themselves whether one star is justified.

Good morning. We had the Schnitzel Viennese style and Schnitzel Hollandaise. It tasted good and the portion was more than enough. The service was friendly and not obnoxious. I like it. We'd love to come back

Food is half stuck under the plate… Price-performance is a disgrace. Traditional breweries seem to treat it like this: food average, service unfriendly, ambience rustic, chairs very uncomfortable. Salad dressing inedible. Käsespätzle (almost) without cheese (more like cream sauce, the same as (grandma's) potato salad?) Drinks (wine ordered by the bottle) served in glasses that weren't even dried. Some of the food tastes good. Of the already significantly fewer dishes on the menu on site (compared to those displayed online), more were not available. The portions are so different, even for the same dish. Next time again star restaurant, the prices here are almost the same, the service and presentation are the opposite.

I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time and I thought that wasn't possible in a brewery.

We celebrated a lot there, for example. carnival etc. and moved away from Deutz in 1980. Although I have been nearby many times, it was only on Good Friday 2024 that I was there with my brother. 👍🍻
