Well-crafted Japanese cuisine in a beautiful setting with a few minor flaws. During my visit, I tried the four-course menu. The restaurant is conveniently located on the fourth floor of the Alsterhaus department store. Outside of opening hours, there's an elevator that leads directly to the restaurant. The decor is a bit more playful than typical Japanese, but fitting. The room benefits from large windows that let in plenty of light. There's also a spacious wraparound terrace, where we were seated during our visit. After the greeting, a wooden board, chopsticks, and a cloth napkin were placed on the table for each guest. This created a harmonious impression. However, the wooden boards were already quite worn. Since we had already booked the four-course menu, looking at it was a quick process. However, it took 15 minutes for the server to take our drink order. This was far too long. The first course, a miso soup with tofu, arrived promptly. This was very well seasoned and served at the perfect temperature. The silken tofu was tender, and the addition of a few strips of wakame seaweed provided a welcome contrast to the dominant umami flavor. The next course was a salad. This consisted of fresh salad greens with vegetables and a teriyaki dressing, and sushi rice with a vegetable and fish mixture. Fresh peas and pickled ginger complemented the flavor profile. The entire dish was flavorful and, due to the different textures, very interesting, yet light and fresh. A very good appetizer. Afterward, the main sushi portion began with a small selection of sashimi. This consisted of two pieces each of salmon, tuna, and ama ebi (shrimp). The shrimp were excellent, and the fish was also of good quality. However, the tuna pieces were noticeably smaller than the salmon. The meal concluded with a selection of sushi. Since it was a set menu, the chef presented a selection. The nigiri were generously topped and expertly prepared (with a touch of wasabi already under the fish). The ingredients were high-quality, with the shrimp being particularly outstanding, boasting an intense crustacean flavor. The rice could have been a bit warmer for my taste. The maki rolls were tasty, but not quite as impressive as the nigiri. Overall, YOSHI offers truly excellent classic sushi in a pleasant atmosphere. The service could be a bit more attentive and present. Perhaps this was due to the limited seating on the terrace. Given the wide variety of dishes and options available, multiple visits are certainly worthwhile.

2 out of 5 stars I came here for lunch and ordered the bento box for €32. According to the menu, it should include seasonal fruit. However, this was not served to me. The service was unfortunately disappointing overall. The miso soup was served in such a way that it had spilled over. Since the bento box was very large, I wanted to take the leftovers with me. Only after asking three times did I receive a container. I then had to fill it myself. At home, I noticed that the fruit was indeed completely missing. I subsequently sent the restaurant a polite email asking for an explanation as to why it wasn't served. Unfortunately, I haven't received a reply to this day. While the food was okay, for a €32 lunch special and a restaurant with such high standards, I expect attentive service and a response to legitimate complaints. It's a shame – I had expected much more, especially since the staff wasn't overwhelmed at the time, as only three tables were occupied.

UPDATE: Shameful. The restaurant asked Google to remove my review for alleged defamation, even though it was just my personal opinion. Perhaps other negative reviews will be removed this way as well. After this incident, I'm changing my rating from 2 to 1 star. The very small portions were particularly disappointing. Despite the high price, I didn't feel full. In my opinion, the value for money is completely off. The food was far too expensive and definitely not worth the price. Overall, the experience was disappointing. There are many sushi restaurants where you can eat just as well, or even better, for significantly less money. I would therefore not recommend this restaurant.

Really good sushi and definitely a place that deserves a return visit

This restaurant is deleting reviews! In my personal opinion, this restaurant does not live up to its Michelin star. I had significantly higher expectations because of the award. I found the service to be inattentive and not particularly customer-oriented. While the sushi was good, it didn't impress me with its flavor and was by no means exceptional. The price-performance ratio was also not right in my opinion. Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations, which is why I would not personally recommend this restaurant.

A very good Japanese restaurant with an authentic Japanese feel. You'll get a very good and beautifully presented meal.

2 people: €505 for a 9-course menu with 150g of Kobe beef. A Japanese restaurant where, due to our many trips to Japan, we were probably the only "Japanese" people. We had expected a much better atmosphere. Anyone who has ever eaten authentic Japanese food knows what I mean. The waitstaff were from Egypt and Kadmandu. I also love these countries and their people, but on this special day for us, we wanted Japanese service. The service was professional and attentive, but there were a few faux pas that shouldn't occur at this price point. Communication with the young woman from Kadmandu was difficult due to her limited German skills. I was seated overlooking stacks of empty cardboard boxes (see photo). The ambiance was, at best, satisfactory. The food was good, except for the Kobe beef (an extra €85 per person) – "thinly sliced, steak-style cooked," the menu stated – but my first impression was: bacon slices, quite rustic and well-done. Definitely not worth the extra €170. We've eaten Kobe beef many times in various Japanese cities and know what we're talking about. The overall impression: we were rushed through our meal, not treated with care. Upon leaving Oshi, I thanked the chef for the meal, but was barely acknowledged. As I said, apart from the Kobe beef, the food was okay, but nothing special. Japanese ambiance (very important to us) = ZERO. A shame.

Very weak service. Staff is either badly trainned, badly paid or toxic internal environment. Michelin stars are worth nothing without a good service.

Gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis bei den Mittagsmenüs

Wir waren heute zum Lunch und sehr begeistert. Das Kobe Rind ein Hammer und Sushi und Sashimi waren super, einzig der Lachs beim Sashimi war ein wenig zu dick geschnitten. Der Thunfisch waren extrem lecker. Wir kommen wieder.

Es war sehr schön , bestes Mojito , dass ich je in meinem Leben getrunken habe , alles sehr lecker, sehr gemütlich und sehr nette Kellner.

Yoshi im Alsterhaus war wirklich top. Das Chicken Teriyaki war unglaublich lecker und perfekt gewürzt. Auch das Lachs Sushi war super frisch und geschmacklich richtig stark. Definitiv eine Empfehlung, wenn man gutes Sushi in Hamburg essen möchte.

Sehr leckeres japanisches Essen, wir hatten das 5-Gänge-Menü bestellt und waren sehr zufrieden. Das Restaurant befindet sich in der oberen Etage des Alsterhauses und hat auch eine Terrasse wo man bei schönem Wetter das Essen oder ein frisch gezapftes japanisches Bier genießen kann.

Im Alsterhaus (4.Stock) findet man in angenehmer, ruhiger Atmosphäre dieses klassische, authentische japanische Restaurant. Hier steht Qualität (Topfrischer Fisch)und nicht Effekthascherei im Vordergrund. Der Service ist aufmerksam und unaufdringlich. Wir waren zum Sushi und Sashimi Lunch hier und super zufrieden. Japan pur.

Ich war nach Feierabend mit einer Freundin hier essen, vorher war ich ein paar mal zum sehr sehr guten Mittagstisch im Yoshi. Wir hatten beide ein Fischgericht und waren sehr zufrieden. Der Laden war an einem Montag sehr leer, daher hatten wir aber auch einen sehr aufmerksamen Service. Gutes Essen im freundlichen ruhigen Ambiente!

Wenn Alsterhaus, dann nur mit einem Essen bei Yoshi

Ich war schon oft dort, sei es zum Mittagessen allein, zum Abendessen mit dem Team oder zum Geburtstagsessen. Das Essen war wie immer sehr lecker. Ich empfehle Chirashi Sushi zum Mittagessen und das 6-Gänge-Menü mit Lachs oder Thunfisch zum Abendessen. Mir schmeckt der Lachs mit Ponzu-Sauce und auch das Thunfisch-Tatar sehr gut. Wenn Sie Sushi bestellen möchten, ist Taro Sake eine hervorragende Wahl. Sie haben eine gute Auswahl an Sushi und Nigiri. Falls Sie das 9-Gänge-Menü probieren möchten, sollten Sie vor 19:30 Uhr kommen, da es danach schon recht spät ist.

Ich wollte eigentlich mit „Für deutsche Verhältnisse ist dieser Ort ausgezeichnet“ anfangen, aber er ist wirklich hervorragend. Ich habe das Glück, an der Küste in der Nähe einiger der frischesten Fischrestaurants zu wohnen, und ich muss sagen, dass dieses Restaurant genauso gut ist wie jedes andere in meiner Gegend. Es ist nicht billig, aber gutes Sushi ist nie billig. Ich war etwa eine Woche dort und habe zweimal dort gegessen, 1) weil ich Sushi zu Hause vermisst habe und 2) weil es so gut war. Der Service ist etwas langsam, aber ansonsten gibt es nichts zu beanstanden.

Absolut das beste Sushi, was wir je gegessen haben! Liebevolles Personal... wir kommen wieder!

Ein der besten japanischen Restaurants in Deutschland. Authentisch, einige aus dem Staff sprechen auch Japanisch. Schöne Atmosphäre, gute Qualität vom Fisch. Personal gibt sich Mühe und freundlich. Notiert für künftige Besuche.

Mein Freund und ich hatten heute das 6 Gänge Menü. Es war wirklich sein Geld wert. Wahnsinnig lecker und eine sehr angenehme Atmosphäre.

Wir waren zum Lunch hier und haben das Mittagsmenü bestellt Special Sushi 🍣 mit Miso-Suppe. Sehr lecker und sehr sättigend. Für meinen Geschmack waren die Sushi etwas zu dick, also zu viel Reis. Das ist wahrscheinlich der Angleichung an den Geschmack der Deutschen geschuldet.

So gutes Sushi lange nicht mehr gegessen. Nicht nur sehr nettes und aufgeschlossenes Personal überzeugt. Das Essen wurde sehr schnell serviert und überzeugte definitiv geschmacklich. Vielen Dank

Eine beeindruckende und nachhaltige Erfahrung. Die Begrüßung bei der Ankunft versprach ein tolles Erlebnis und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht. Der Service 3 Stunden lang sehr aufmerksam aber dezent. Die Qualität der 9 Gänge war grossartig und alle Speisen liebevoll zubereitet und arrangiert. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Ein wunderschönes Ambiente mit authentischer japanischer Küche. Der Service ist aufmerksam und zuvorkommend, was das Restaurant zu einem hervorragenden Ort für gesellige Zusammenkünfte macht.

Super Service! Tolles originales japanisches Essen. Auch bei Mittags-lunch. Gemütliches Zusammenessen und Reden möglich. Immer wieder!!!

Schon vier mal haben wir das große Menü und den hervorragenden Sake genossen. Absolut empfehlenswert und der Ausblick von den Tischen draußen auch sehr schön. Die Chefin legt viel Wert auf Details und die Speisen werden mit hochwertigen Produkten zubereitet. Das Auge isst immer mit, was sich neben der Speisen auch im dargereichten schönen Geschirr zeigt. Besonders war die Begleitung als letzte Gäste von zwei Securitys aus dem Gebäude, wo zuvor viele Menschen wuselten und man nun Menschen leer entlang an allen Marken bis zum Ausgang begleitet wurde. Auch unsere Freunde waren begeistert vom sehr schmackhaften und wunderschön angerichtetem japanischem Essen in schöner Atmosphäre.

In der 4. Etage im Alsterhaus gelegen. Die Speisekarte ist sehr umfangreich. Wir wollten das 9-Gang-Menü probieren, was aber leider nicht glutenfrei zubereitet werden kann. So sind wir auf die Sashimi- und Sushi-Platte für zwei Personen für 120€ ausgewichen, die sich als ganz hervorragende Wahl erwiesen hat. Die kunstfertige Zubereitung hinter dem Tresen konnten wir von unserem Platz gut einsehen. Die sympathische Inhaberin ist sehr bemüht und kümmert sich wirklich um das Wohl ihrer Gäste.

Wie haben einen sehr schönen und ruhigen Abend verlebt in klimasierten Räumen. Bei der aktuellen Wärme sehr angenehm. Das Essen war mit Qualität, Liebe und kunstvoll zubereitet und ein Vergnügen für die Augen. Wir können das YOSHI sehr empfehlen und kommen gern wieder.

Fantastisches Hähnchen-Teriyaki und Matcha-Eiscreme!!!!

Das Restaurant befindet sich im vierten Stock und der Eingang war etwas versteckt. Wir kamen kurz vor Schließung an und wurden trotzdem freundlich empfangen. Das Karaage-Hähnchen wurde mit einem kleinen Salat serviert, dessen Dressing herrlich umami war. Auch unsere California Roll mit Krabbenfleisch und das Yoshi Special (Thunfisch-Tatar) waren köstlich.

When we are in Hamburg, we ALWAYS eat at Yoshi - we love being given the best advice by expert staff in a pleasant atmosphere, getting tips on how to combine, mix, separate certain Japanese specialties in the tastiest way, etc. and always do so in an exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable manner. Then the food: we have the impression that everything is always of the highest quality and tastes extremely delicious and unique. This time we were delighted by the 9-course menu with the combination of traditional and new style dishes - that's actually the reason why I'm finally writing a review! We like to eat well and prefer to choose excellent cuisines for ourselves in Germany. Going out for Japanese food? Only in the Alsterhaus in the Yoshi! Best ever! 😉

Ok, it's a restaurant in a mall. You know that. The quality is ok in my opinion. But price performance is not right. We're talking about a very high-priced restaurant here. In our case 300€ for 2 adults and 2 children. For the price, I expect a somewhat more unusual presentation and constant support at the table. It was ok but definitely not a restaurant visit that I will remember appropriately in terms of price. The staff was inexperienced but friendly and helpful. So nothing special and especially not for the price asked. Here is significantly more.

The lunch menu (Bento Box) was very diverse with teriyaki salmon, ebi and vegetable tempura, sushi and salad. We were well fed and it tasted really authentic. The service was friendly and it is nicely decorated. The toilets are outside and belong to the Alsterhaus.

We went to Yoshi's again yesterday at lunchtime. Going to Yoshi is always a special experience for me and my daughter. We had the 6 course menu. The food was, as always, very good. Unfortunately, a young man served us who smelled strongly of sweat. It was partly an imposition. Also, it took him a long time to serve us. Too bad!

Unfortunately, the Saikyoyaki set I ordered was completely different from Japanese food, and I didn't think it was delicious. The rice was also tasteless and not worth the price. I gave it 2 stars because the staff's service was good.

The food is good, but the service is extremely slow… The person who served me was very friendly and seemed genuinely sorry for the delay, however the whole experience is affected by taking so long to serve a drink and deliver an order ( approximately one hour). You end up eating something annoying and hungrier and the experience is no longer pleasant.

I ordered the lunch special. In the case of bento, I was able to eat miso soup, shrimp, various vegetable tempura, salmon teriyaki, etc. For the Best Sushi menu, they provided 6 pieces of sushi and 6 pieces of maki, and the freshness of the fish was good. However, appetizers with salad and rice were served before the sushi was served, and it was disappointing that it took a long time to receive the sushi.

The restaurant is directly accessible from Alsterhaus. Since it's on the top floor, you had a relatively nice view, but you can't (or can't) look at the Elbe, at least from inside. The staff was friendly and you could watch the sushi being prepared. The meat tasted delicious and the sushi was also remarkably good. The tempura vegetables were quite ok. Although it is very expensive, it was somewhat justified by the quality of the food. In the evening the atmosphere could be even more pleasant.

Title: Disappointing sushi experience in the Alsterhaus I recently went to the sushi restaurant at Alsterhaus in Hamburg and can only say that I was beyond disappointed. The prices are absolutely exorbitant and the quality of the food is nowhere near what you would expect for that much money. The portions were small and the sushi rolls weren't even freshly made. The rice was dry and the fillings tasteless. It felt like the ingredients had been in the fridge for a long time and were no longer really edible. For the prices charged here, you simply expect more. I cannot recommend this restaurant and will certainly not come back. If you want to eat good sushi, look somewhere else!

It's a mystery to me where the good reviews come from. We regularly go out for Japanese food and recently went on vacation to Japan. The service was not only slow, but also ignorant and not particularly friendly. We were at the counter because we wanted to watch the chefs. The listlessness and indifference with which food is treated is truly shocking. The rice was tasteless and overcooked. The fish was not of good quality. We didn't even finish because it really wasn't good. But wasn't interested any further. Miso soup was good. The house starter was just as mysterious as the decoration with frozen peas which were randomly scattered around the “nigiri”. All of the food is far from Japanese cuisine. Unfortunately we have to say that the maki and nigiri are of lower quality than some supermarket items. A very big disappointment. Price performance is catastrophic, the restaurant doesn't respond to complaints. It is deeply sad that this quality is served and served in the Alsterhaus.

Was ignored in the restaurant for 25 minutes. Then the waitress didn't know how to answer the simplest questions about the menu, only to be told that we had to wait at least 30 minutes for some maki and nigiri.

An unpredictable restaurant. We arrived an hour before closing time, and there were no customers inside. When we asked to have dinner, the waiter paused and then returned to tell us they were closed. When we pointed out that the restaurant was supposed to be open until 10:00 (still one hour left), he replied that it wasn't his decision... :( I think such a level of customer service is not worthy of a Michelin rating.

Wonderful Japanese restaurant in the Alsterhaus with its own elevator. We had the 5 course experience menu. Well-rounded dishes that are brought by the service at a pleasant speed. High-quality Japanese cuisine that tastes impressive despite its simplicity. The service staff is very attentive and happy to help if questions arise. We would come again.

Great Japanese restaurant with great value for money in a pleasant atmosphere. We had the 5 course menu twice for €52 per person. These were served very nicely at comfortable intervals per course and tasted really great. The portions were very sufficient and we went home full. All the ingredients were very fresh and it was also beautifully prepared. The service is also absolutely 5 stars. It's worth visiting Yoshi. (The soup is not in the photos, forgot to take a photo ;))

The YOSHI restaurant in the Alsterhaus offers an authentic Japanese experience with fresh, delicious food. The sushi/sashimi variations in particular are an absolute highlight – perfectly seasoned and wonderfully prepared. What surprised me very positively was that you could order Kobe beef on the menu, which unfortunately wasn't available on the day I was there, but I was still happy that you could also get this special meat here. The atmosphere is calm and pleasant, ideal for a relaxing evening. The service was amazing and extremely friendly. If you love Japanese food, you should definitely visit this restaurant! I'm already looking forward to the next time.

I'm honestly shocked, the chef scrapes sauce out of a bowl with his bare fingers and then spreads it on the duck, why isn't a spoon used for it? I've never seen anything like this before. We had to wait a long time for the food, my wife got her food 10 minutes before me, a no go! My duck was dry and not worth the money. Then unfortunately I ordered uni on rice twice. It was bitter and not edible! This store will never see us again.

I've eaten in many "Japanese" restaurants in my life but this is truly Japanese. The food, atmosphere and service are wonderful.

Very very good choice. Super food / flavors. Super service. Very friendly staff. I only noticed one negative thing that made me wonder if the staff are being paid properly or rather satisfactorily. In such an expensive restaurant the staff uniform should cover not only their clothing but also their shoes. That's why I give you 4 stars.

We went to YOSHI for the first time a few weeks ago. What particularly impressed us, in addition to the delicious food and the high-quality ambience, was the warmth and attentiveness of our waitress and the fact that the owner took the time to chat. Gladly again! Kind regards to Hamburg!

Great cuisine for an upscale price. Really Japanese and nothing around it. Very nice chef and a master of his craft.

We have been here for lunch several times and have never been disappointed. Our last visit was particularly excellent - in addition to fantastic food and a relaxed atmosphere, our daughters (3 & 6) received a really sweet and loving crash course in eating with chopsticks. When it comes to sushi, we can only say it's great - always freshly prepared and a large variety of fish so that every bite should be enjoyed. We can only warmly recommend the Yoshi - even for families with small children. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

We visited Yoshi for the 5th. After a wait of 5 minutes, despite many empty seats, we were escorted to our table. Then came the news that none of us could believe. There was only a little sushi rice left. We were lucky and got 6 more maki rolls. The quality of the sushi was good and it tasted good. However, I expected more from a Michelin restaurant.

If you like sushi - this is the perfect restaurant. Quality is top and the service is very attentive. In summer there is a great terrace, but I can also recommend it in other ways. The jasmine tea - I love it.

My husband and I spontaneously visited Yoshi yesterday; before we moved away, it was one of our favorite places. The girls made our afternoon really nice with their service! To be honest, the service used to be often unreliable and not really convincing. But the new faces convinced us both of the opposite. We were well advised, our drinks arrived quickly, the food was served in a short time and all with a smile on our faces. I don't have to mention that the food was impressive as always. Thank you very much, dear staff!

Heute waren wir im YOSHI Restaurant. Wir kamen ohne eine Reservierung und wurden freundlich und zuvorkommend vom Service in Empfang genommen. Das Ambiente vom Restaurant wirkte familiär und ruhig. Das Restaurant selber machte auf uns einen sauberen und gepflegten Eindruck. Der Sevice war sehr höflich und offen für weitere Fragen. Es war auch viel japanisches Personal vorhanden. Das Essen wirkte sehr frisch und war lecker. Wer schon einmal in Japan war, kann bestätigen, dass es sich hierbei um qualitativ gutes japanisches Essen handelt.

Schlimm,...Yoshi verdient nur einen Stern...und zwar den MICHELIN STERRRRN!

Immer ein Besuch wert. Zwischen 12 und 15 Uhr kann ich die Bento-Box empfehlen.

Semi authentic Japanese food in Hamburg city center. Many Japanese people eat here, which is a good sign. I like their teriyaki dishes, the sauce is so special, I think it is homemade. Their sushi is simple yet very tasty, clean taste, no need to add too much soy sauce. Tempura is light battered, crispy, and not oily. My favorite is their aubergine baked in miso sauce, simple yet very tasty. The atmosphere is too cold, no music nor warm lights. It feels like eating in a tv studio. Too bad!

Authentisches japanisches Sushi, qualitativ sehr hochwertige Zutaten, frischester Fisch, dadurch natürlich teurer als die ganzen Pseudo-Sushilokale. Essen ist jeden Cent wert! Einfach top wie in Japan üblich!

God mad, men servicen skal man lede længe efter, selvom der kun var et par ud over os.

Came without reservation. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Service was excellent - very attentive and friendly. Sushi was delicious and authentic. Kirin beer on tab - hard to find. Little on the expensive side, but worth it. Hey, 5x year Michelin Guide restaurant. Decoration could be a little nicer, though. Will be back!

Nun ja, wer suchet der findet. Leider hatten wir uns nicht informiert wo das YOSHI liegt im Alsterhaus, nach einigem fragen und suchen den Fahrstuhl gefu den. OK, super und in welche Richtung? Auch das hatte Erfolg, einmal an allen Verkaufsständen vorbei in der hintersten Ecke; war ja klar für 19.00 Uhr den 17.08.23 einen Tisch bestellt. Möbelausstellung, drei Tische belegt OK. Schlemmersommer bestellt, Naja. Die Vorspeise gut und die Suppe anders als gewohnt, anders ist ja in Ordnung, das Hauptgericht nett aber nicht besonders. Service irgendwie überfordert. Keine Beschreibung erhalten was wir den auf den Tellern erhalten hatten. Nun ja, hatten wohl das falsche bestellt ( Schlemmersommer ) oder einen ungünstigen Tag erwischt, geschlemmt nun ja, vielleicht beim nächsten Besuch. Es war etwas enttäuschent die Erwartungshaltung war größer. Die anderen Rezessionen zur Kenntnis genommen. Jeder verdient eine zweite Chance. :)

Das Essen ist lecker, aber etwas teuer. Auf der Dachterasse hat man einen schönen Ausblick. Leider ist es bisschen versteckt im vierten Stock des Alsterhauses, sodass man etwas suchen muss.

Super lecker, kann nur empfehlen.
