Kampai Sushi bar in Hamburg

A really cute small sushi bar. The worker and chef were super kind. Food was also authentic and delicious. Would recommend reserving a table if you want to dine in. Probably best sushi in Hamburg.

So wow. Where should I even start? This was one of, if not the, nicest restaurant visit I have ever had. (If you can even call it a restaurant) The place is really small with 8 seats, so reservations are required, but I put this experience above any fine dining restaurant I've ever been to. You come into the restaurant from the Reeperbahn and you immediately find yourself in a different world. The sushi chef and the service are incredibly warm. The boss comes to you, asks about your preferences, tells you about his work and you notice that this shop radiates authenticity and true craftsmanship. I've never eaten sushi like this before. It is simple, authentic Japanese sushi because the sushi chef completed 10 years of training in Tokyo and you can tell with every bite how incredible effort was put into this food. From fish to rice. Everything was magnificent. This is not your typical restaurant visit. This is a pleasure. What made this experience truly unique was the way the waitress treated the guests as described above. I've simply never been able to experience something like that in Germany. It was perfect, every expectation was exceeded, I wish the team all the best and I'll be back. Best regards

Absolutely top!!! Here you get the best honest sushi of excellent quality. Really a great shop with very friendly owners. The fish is fresh and we would have loved to try everything. We arrived spontaneously at 6 p.m. and were very lucky to get one last free spot. The shop is small and very busy, so reservations are definitely recommended!

Definitely the best sushi in Hamburg! Don't let the location confuse you. You definitely have to reserve in advance but it is a totally authentic sushi restaurant, the owners are incredibly friendly and the food is top quality, it couldn't be better!!! The prices here are also more than fair for what you get. I can really recommend everyone to eat here once :)

The restaurant had been on my list for a long time and we finally got a place - it was worth the wait! The sushi rice was super juicy and loosely rolled, the fish was super fresh and incredibly tender. And the service was also super friendly. I haven't experienced such great service in a long time. We'll be back!

The best sushi I've ever had. Very fresh, authentic and tasty. The shop is in the middle of Hamburger Berg and easy to reach. I recommend making a reservation as the shop is very small and always busy. The owner is super friendly and there was even a small bonus on the house. I'm looking forward to the next visit!

I wouldn't have expected that you could get such good sushi in the middle of the mountain - an absolute insider tip that will catapult you straight to Japan for the duration of your visit. Kampai offers a mini, small restaurant (space for a total of around 8 guests), friendly owners and high-quality sushi. The fish really melts in your mouth. The menu is manageable, but it's really quick, as a surprise there was a nigiri on the house. Really great all around👌🏼 thank you, we'll be back! Be sure to reserve in advance!

My wife discovered the Kampai Sushi Restaurant during our trip to Hamburg and made a reservation there. It was her first time having sushi in her life and we absolutely loved it! The shop is absolutely authentic, the owner and chef comes from Tokyo and learned there and you are supported. An absolute pearl, I have never had sushi so good, I can only recommend it!

I had no idea that such a relaxing place existed, so I was surprised and impressed! I would like to have a chance to stop by again someday!

WOW! Never had such good sushi in Germany. Fresh, delicious, rice perfect and fish like butter. It was terrific. I was there for the first but not last time. Service was super nice and so was the owner. Very warm, you feel very welcome! I can only recommend it, as well as the reservation, as it is really a very small shop. Absolutely fantastic sushi and really friendly people. The small restaurant was full as I'd expected it would be but I was able to order a take-away and enjoy it on the terrace of my nearby hotel. The sushi and side dishes were probably the tastiest, freshest and most perfectly prepared I've ever had - and I've had a lot of sushi in many different countries and cities over the years! The very friendly chef gave me some free side dishes too. What more can you ask? Highly recommended!!!

Really great shop, the best nigiri sushi I've ever had in Germany, if not in Japan. 100/5 points. The sushi master comes from Japan and the fish is excellent. 1 point deduction for cleanliness, unfortunately when we were there the table wasn't wiped beforehand and everything was stuck. The restaurant is small (only 6 seats), so it's worth making a reservation. The boss chats with the guests and brings a free seaweed salad and nigiri to try. The sushi is tasty but not exceptional but rather typical. So you shouldn't expect fancy fruit sauces or anything similar, but rather classic, high-quality sushi.

Went last evening, great experience, the food is great, tasty, well presented. The owner is very friendly and amazing while preparing sushis/makis, he is like an artist creating our food. I definitely recommend it and nicely served too by his smiling waitress.

Must visit!!. Kleiner süßer unscheinbarer Laden mit wenigen Sitzplätzen. Dafür mit ganz viel mehr Herzlichkeit und Authentizität als üblich. Wir haben einen Tag vorher reserviert und glücklicherweise einen Tisch bekommen. Der Sushi Meister kam sogar ein paar mal an unserem Tisch vorbei, fragte ob alles in Ordnung wäre und brachte uns eine Kleinigkeit aus der Küche zum probieren. Die Preise sind top ebenso wie die Qualität der Sushi. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen!

Unser Sushi Stammladen. Dieser Laden ist einfach viel zu klein fuer sein leckeres Sushi ! Wirklich nur 6 Plaetze d.h. unbedingt reservieren ! Deutlich besseres Sushi wie in den meisten Hamburger Szene Sushis. Wir haben zu zweit die Karte rauf und runter gegessen. Unsere Favoriten der warme Aal und der geflaemmte Lachs. Waren dann 100 Euro auf der Rechnung was aber wirklich fair fuer die gebotene Qualitaet ist. Der Chef kommt aus Osaka und hatte auch dort bereits ein Lokal !! Wer nach top Qualitaet und super Geschmack sucht ist hier riig ! Wer Style und gesehen werden sucht bitte wegbleiben denn mit den aktuellen Gaesten ist es echt perfekt hier !

Sehr lecker! Der Koch ist super nett und das Essen ist sehr sehr lecker!

Sehr frisches und gutes Sushi, riesige Auswahl. Allerdings ist das Sushi definitiv europäisch angepasst. Viele Rolls, viel Frischkäse. Die Menus sind sehr reichhaltig- allerdings bekam keiner die angekündigte Vorspeise. Diese war irgendwie zusammengewürfelt. Kimchi meets Wakame. Die Karte hat auch eine reiche vegetarisch/ Veganer Auswahl. Auch das war lecker. Was wirklich ausgesprochen miserabel ist: der Service. Getränke kommen kalt an, nach der Reklamation wieder. Nachbestellen klappt nicht- keiner da. Beilagen, wie zb Ingwer kommen erst nachdem die Platte leer gegessen war…. Das ist schade. Keine Kartenzahlung.

Food quality, atmosphere and hospitality are worth travelling for. With experience in more than 95 countries, I find Kampai Sushi Bar, by far one of the best I have ever tried. Allow yourself to experience this extremely small, cosy and accommodating restaurant. The food quality, dedication to the ingredients and perfect preparation and sympathetic insight makes this a must for all travellers and locals.

Kampai sushi bar was one of my favorite experiences in Hamburg - and we didnt even eat in the restaurant! While we waited for our fresh sushi menus to be made (only about 15 mins for 2 x boxes of 12 pieces) the owner came out to us with a little appetizer bite to tickle our tastebuds. He and the waitress (his wife, maybe?) were incredibly welcoming, friendly and put big smiles on our faces. The owner asked us what our favorite fish was and made the little taster based on that. So cute. Even the guests that filled the place (very limited seating, only 6 seats) made fun small talk with us and were very supportive of the owner. Overall such a lovely vibe and not to mention the sushi! Itwas just amazing. The presentation of the food was so pretty and it was perfect. besides sushi there were extra sides like seaweed salad, cucumber salad and marinated bamboo shoots. So good. The owner insisted we tasted them all and we were not dissapointed! We regret not ordering to stay! If you go to Hamburg you must visit Kampai Sushi Bar. Do not be fooled by the fact that it is in between bars on a side road to Reeperbahn. It is a true gem. Thank you to the owner for such a wonderful experience - it warmed our hearts!

Sushi war ganz okay, ich finde persönlich, dass es besseres gibt. Als „Vorspeise“ gab es bei mir einen Mini Algensalat, den fande ich sehr unappetitlich. Aber die Anrichtung des Sushis ist echt klasse.

Nach vielen langen Japanaufenthalten kann ich bestätigen: näher an das Original kommt in Hamburg niemand! Klassisches, hochqualitatives Sushi das frisch vom charismatischen Chef am Tresen zubereitet wird. Dazu echt-japanische Atmosphäre auf engem Raum. Wer auf vornehmes Dinieren steht wird hier im Zweifel enttäuscht - alle die die echte japanische Experience und Top-Qualität suchen: ein Muss!

Für mich das beste Sushi der Stadt, die Auswahl ist eher klassisch japanisch ohne modernen Schnickschnack. Wir kommen seit Jahren gern mit der Familie und genießen die intime Atmosphäre dieses sehr kleinen Restaurants. Reservierung wird daher dringend empfohlen. Zu späterer Stunde treffen sich gern Stammgäste und die japanische Community zu einem Drink. Qualität und Frische der Produkte ist top, der Besitzer und Sushi Meister Hiro bezieht den Fisch aus Japan.

Traditionelle japanische Vorspeisen (z.B. Spinat mit Sesamsoße oder eingelegtes Wurzelgemüse) und sehr leckeres Sushi (z.b. flambierte Scholle oder japanischer Kürbis) - alles sehr sehr frisch und lecker. Der Fisch variert je nach Angebot ein wenig von Woche zu Woche. Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und super herzliche Bewirtung. Es gibt keine Tische, sondern man sitzt an der Bar oder am Fenster. Nur 10 Plätze, daher besser reservieren. Wir sind regelmäßige Sushi Gänger und dieser kleine Laden ist von der Qualität in Hamburg nach unserem Geschmack ganz vorne anzusiedeln. Wir kommen definitiv schon bald wieder.

This was some of the best sushi we've had. One of our group was vegan and this was no problem, they adjusted the menu, supplementing avocado and mushroom for fish. The food was presented very well in a boat shape. We also drank the saki which was served in little wooden boxes. Friendly owner who also models! Bespoke menu created for a set price at the outset.

Ich wurde über TripAdvisor auf das Kampai aufmerksam. Ganz kleiner Laden aber super freundlich und die Sushi frisch gemacht und echt lecker. Habe sogar noch 2 Sushi ( einmal mit Aal und einmal mit Scholle ) zum probieren bekommen. Ich kann den Laden wirklich nur empfehlen

Kleiner aber sehr feiner Sushi Laden (10 Plätze) in einer Seitenstraße v.d. Reeperbahn. Sehr sehr leckeres und geschmacksintensives Sushi, vor den eigenen Augen zubereitet. Preise sehr fair, einziger Wermutstropfen (wenn überhaupt) ist das Fehlen von Cola Light/Zero. Insgesamt 5 Sterne ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kleiner Geheimtipp. Das Sushi-Restaurant ist ein unscheinbarer Laden auf der Kneipen-Meile "Hamburger Berg". Ich bin schon oft daran vorbeigegangen ohne zu realisieren was für eine Perle hier versteckt liegt. Das Lokal ist recht klein, daher sollte man nicht in zu großen Gruppen reinschauen. Gleichzeitig macht das aber den Charme von Kampai aus. Sofern ich das beurteilen kann würde das Kampai als authentisch beschreiben. Gute Preise, frisches Sushi, sehr freundliche Bedienung
