There are also authentic Chinese dishes here that aren't on the menu, such as fried scampi with egg yolk, fried eggplant, etc. All delicious! 100% recommended. Update Oct. 2025: A year or two ago, the food was excellent. Since then, it's become mediocre. The ambiance has also deteriorated. It's a real shame.

The food was freshly prepared, the vegetables were still slightly firm, and all the dishes were very tasty. Highly recommended! We'll be happy to come back on our next visit to Kassel.

I was last here months ago, and the next time won't be as long. I arrived just before lunchtime, received very friendly service, and the food was truly delicious. But "Shandong" is also considered an insider tip in Kassel and the best place for Chinese cuisine. So a big THANK YOU, I'll be back soon.

We discovered the restaurant next to our hotel, how convenient 😁 For two people on a Tuesday evening, we didn't have a reservation, which wasn't a problem. You can also sit outside. We decided against it because the noise level on Lutherstrasse/Lutherplatz is quite loud. The noise level inside was pleasant. We love Asian cuisine, and the food at this restaurant was great! Our order: Beef stew and duck with rice.

The service was so fast, nothing could have been freshly cooked. The supposedly spicy food wasn't. The service was friendly.

This place deserves a low score. The waitress was the worst we've ever had. Shouted at us, yelled at us and ran around. We got the wrong food, then she claimed it was WE who said it wrong. Crazy stressful time. Need more waiters, and someone to take care of us. Forgot to say: the food was bad. Noodles with scampi contained 3 scampi and dry noodles.

We ordered three dishes: cumin lamb, boiled beef, and flavored eggplant. The flavored eggplant tasted good. But the fried syrup was a bit sticky. The cumin lamb was hard to chew, and I could only swallow half of it. And there was no cumin grains or cumin flavor, so why is it called cumin lamb? You can't make this dish in a similar way to black pepper beef fillet, right? It's really not good enough. The boiled beef was just okay, and the overall feeling was that the chef's skills were not high, and he just did it to get by.

We discovered this Chinese restaurant through a voucher book – and were absolutely pleasantly surprised! The service was very friendly and prompt, the food arrived promptly and was truly delicious. The duck was particularly outstanding – crispy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. We were completely satisfied and would definitely return. A definite recommendation!

The service was a 5 out of 5. The restaurant is located right on the street, so the ambiance is more a matter of taste, especially the background noise of cars and trams. We ate at Shandong in Kassel today for my mom's 77th birthday. On the recommendation of a friend, I ordered the beef stew. As you know, I rarely write about restaurants, but today I have to make an exception. This dish, like the entire restaurant, has nothing to do with the buffet monotony you usually get in Germany. The beef stew is a sensation, a true firework on the tongue. It's spicy but nuanced, hot but not too hot, the Sichuan pepper releases an incredible aroma, and every bite of a peppercorn is like a small explosion of flavor. The spicy broth perfectly envelops the whole thing, and the dried chilies have the power to do what they're supposed to: tickle and sensitize the taste buds without numbing them. The beef is perfectly cooked and its flavor blends seamlessly. The whole dish is so perfectly balanced that you can completely immerse yourself in it. So if you like spicy food and are looking forward to a taste adventure, this is the perfect place for you. I, for one, have never had a better dish in an Asian restaurant. The Shandong, or rather the Shandong (there are two of them), are anything but standard and far removed from the monotony of the usual buffet restaurant. Furthermore, the Shandong avoids the use of MSG and uses only fresh products. This restaurant is so exceptional that I can absolutely recommend it. Beide Variationen waren nicht gebraten, Gemüse war so gut wie nicht vorhanden, geschmacklos und absolut lieblos zubereitet. Dafür das kein Bratvorgang statt fand war dafür ekliges Oel vorhanden. Nicht zu empfehlen. Macht ein Bogen um das Restaurant in KS- Harleshausen. 01.04.2025

So I ordered bridal noodles with fried duck for €11.90. I got bridal noodles with small pieces of duck. By fried duck I mean large slices of duck breast which are fried! In terms of taste, it wasn't really good, definitely not worth €11.90! And the service was also more than unfriendly and, out of her own arrogance, withheld the 10 cents after I had given €12! An all-round successful experience at Shan Dong! Yesterday we spontaneously visited the Shan Dong Restaurant as a couple and were thrilled. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and accommodated without any problems, despite our last-minute request. The ambience was pleasant: a pleasant volume, subtle background music and a relaxed atmosphere - perfect for enjoying the food. What is particularly noteworthy is the speed with which the food was served. We hardly had to wait, which is a big plus for spontaneous visits. The food was really excellent! From the quality to the freshness and the authentic flavors, everything was perfect. The price-performance ratio is absolutely convincing, especially in combination with the gourmet block offer. You get a lot for your money here, and in really good quality. We will definitely come back and can only recommend Shan Dong!

The first time in Kassel with my fiancé. We visited your restaurant yesterday and noticed the unfriendly appearance of a waitress who was wearing a black and white top. She rudely asked if we had reservations without even greeting us. We also found it very strange that when we ordered, she asked if we would pay together, even though we hadn't even received our food yet. In every restaurant I know, you only ask after your meal whether you want to pay in cash or by card. At the same time, we had the feeling that they were trying to pressure us to eat quickly and leave the restaurant. Other guests were asked if everything was OK with the food, but no one asked us. Nobody said goodbye to us either. It shouldn't make any difference which guests you are friendly with. Furthermore, the curry was far too sweet.

Went there for dinner with 6 people. All the food was very tasty. We really liked it and would love to come back. Clean and tidy. This is how you enjoy eating out. And our dog was also allowed to come along and was even given a bowl of water in front of us. That was just great! Full 5 stars

Today I invited friends to the Shandong restaurant in the city center again. We ordered shredded pork with pickled vegetables, prawns with egg yolk, pickled fish, and cool beer. We were very satisfied with the delicious dishes and we are very happy to visit Shandong Restaurant again.

Had lunch today on Friday. As always, the food was good and plentiful. For Saturday we took some Peking soup with us and were shown a take-away container that should be filled with soup. When we got home we wanted to decant the soup - when we opened it we were shocked. Just a little more than the ground was covered. Less than the starter soup and for a price of 4.40 euros per portion. This is outrageous!

Sehr lecker gegessen und hat hervorragend geschmeckt. Bin heute zum ersten Mal hier und mit Sicherheit nicht das letzte Mal. Ich habe von der Mittagskarte gegessen ,mit einer Vorsuppe.Das Hauptgericht war reichlich und hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Gerne wieder!

The food is not authentic and I cannot understand the good reviews. Perhaps the restaurant has changed owners. In the empty restaurant (Saturday evening at 8pm) it smelled strongly of old frying oil. I cannot recommend it.

Really sorry. I found the food really inedible the last 2 times. Instead of a variation of vegetables, 1 whole onion with the stalk roughly chopped inside. The lamb was also tough. I won't be coming back and I don't understand the positive reviews.

After three visits now, I'll write my review. Visit one was characterized by the fact that I was given the wrong food and was asked to eat that too. Visit two was better in that I didn't get anything and, after asking several times, I was told that this dish had already run out. By then my companion had long since eaten and I was served. Visit three to the "Adventure Gastronomy" - 25 minutes until we were allowed to order something, which came quite quickly - except for my side dish, which came when I was almost finished with the main course. All in all, most of us didn't like it and personally I'm fed up after three tries and give up.

Went here spontaneously for dinner last night. It is advisable to reserve in advance or at least call and ask if there is space. I really enjoyed my meal (curry chicken), you definitely have to eat the hot sauce with it! My friend ordered curry duck, which was disappointing for him. The crispy duck was placed in a plate full of sauce with a few vegetables? We didn't quite understand that! 😅 Our experience was quite different, of course it always depends on what you order. I live next to the restaurant. The restaurant is clean and tidy. The boss lady explained the food well. I ordered the fried noodles. The minced meat and pickled vegetables go well together.
