The Indian restaurant "Shalimar" in Flensburg is located in the basement and welcomes its guests with a lovingly designed interior. The tables are pleasantly set, and numerous accessories bring the character of India to life. The waiters also wear traditional clothing, lending the atmosphere a special authenticity. Everything feels relaxed and pleasantly casual. After a warm welcome, we were immediately given the menus and were able to order our drinks in peace. We took our time choosing our dishes. We found it particularly thoughtful that we were asked for the desired spiciness for each main course – a great way to customize the meal to our own taste. We chose a lentil soup as a starter and two different lamb dishes. All the dishes were finely spiced, very aromatic, and served in a pleasant amount – just enough to leave you feeling full and satisfied. Our impression: Every visit to an Indian restaurant is a little different, as each restaurant has its own signature. The "Shalimar" impresses with its calm, authentic atmosphere and cuisine that delights all tastes. A clear recommendation for anyone in Flensburg who craves Indian specialties.

Great food at great prices. Very friendly staff and owners. We still go there often. Always delicious and super friendly. If you like it spicier, you can ask for really hot chilies. You can add your own seasoning. They also offer rice 🍚 if you're really hungry. Always happy to go back.

Had dinner with teenagers in July 2025. Based on positive reviews. The food was indeed delicious, but one of us found it a bit salty. Otherwise, good value for money! We found the service a bit distant, but not unfriendly. In short: a great place to eat!

Tried this Pakistani restaurant in Flensburg—flavors were surprisingly close to authentic Pakistani taste, especially the grilled items and curries. However, the prices were quite high specially grill plates. Worth it for the experience, but maybe not for a regular visit.

The food was truly excellent. The service was very reserved. The ambiance was rather plain.

I'm in no way very familiar with Indian cuisine but I really liked my dinner at Shalimar. I had Mixed Tandoori with chicken and a surprisingly large amount of shrimps. The meal was spicy as ordered and washed down with a mango lassi and a mango schnaps. Total 25 Euros and well worth it. Nice and friendly service in a simple decor makes me give the place a very solid 4 stars.

Three of us ate there today based on the many positive reviews. It was excellent! Very tasty and of good, authentic quality! The price-performance ratio is reasonable. Don't be put off by the rather simple location on the lower ground floor. We'd be happy to come back. Our little dog was even allowed in. I recommend making a reservation.

The food was truly delicious – the mango lassi was a particular highlight. The kitchen also demonstrated a good touch with the spiciness. Unfortunately, this touch wasn't quite as warmly extended to us in the service. Four naans for three people? Okay. A request for a little more bread? Was received in a friendly manner – and later on the bill. The waiter, who turned out to be the owner, unfortunately seemed more calculating than welcoming. Even a small cay at the end suddenly had a price tag. In the end, we were left there: full, but a little surprised at how consistently every forkful counts as an extra. For €93 for three without dessert, you feel well treated in terms of food – but unfortunately a bit shabby in terms of humanity. A restaurant with taste, but lacking the generosity you'd expect as a guest.

I wish there was an option of negative 5 star. Ambience is dull and looks shady.. the waiter had a lot of attitude.. food is no where close to indian food, I couldn't even keep it in my mouth.. This is by far the worst indian restaurant I have had in my life.. I don't know how this restaurant has 4.9 star. I think it's bot/fake reviews. DON'T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE. I would highly recommend to stay away.. New edit: after this post, the restaurant has reported my comments to Google as an alleged defamation FIVE times. Guess that's speaks volumes about the restaurant with only 5 star reviews

Today, 9 of us were at Shalimar. We ate there for the first time. It was very good for me and my family. The food was very tasty and the service was great. We would love to come back to eat here again.

Dont bother! Visited after reading reviews, tuesday evening, not busy, but no problem. We were shown into a pokey corner table Waiter was quite sullen and didn't appear interested. Ordered food and drink which turned up quickly. Food was just acceptable my jalfreezi was lacking any real flavour and my friends curry was the same. We ate out meals but I'd describe it as barely ok. My friend even told the waiter this but he didn't bat an eyelid and just walked off ignoring us. However the rice was OK, nice and light/fluffy. We paid up and left.

The food is delicious, and you can choose between different levels of spiciness. Unfortunately, we were asked to write a good review. This is not appropriate and inappropriate.

What's the point? This is the best Indian restaurant in Flensburg and the surrounding area. I love ordering from here whenever my fridge is empty. From the moment it opened until today...absolutely top-notch! Prices have gone up a bit, but that's true of everything these days.

Amazing! Happy with the service… very clean place & well kept as well. the food comes in reasonably large quantities. The taste was mouthwatering. I definitely came back next day!! I am foody person so They made my stay in Flensburg more enjoyable. If you are around i highly recommend.

A really welcome feeling in the restaurant - the owner is great! You immediately notice how well he works with his team. Everyone is in a good mood, the interactions with the guests are extremely polite and attentive. Simply a place where you feel completely comfortable.

The very good rating brought us here and it has been confirmed. The food was served quickly and hot and was very tasty and authentic. We were allowed to choose the level of spiciness (low, medium, hot 🌶️) when ordering. The service was very friendly and accommodating. We were also asked several times if everything was OK and even if we needed more rice. We felt so comfortable that we came back for lunch the following day.

A small, warmly-run restaurant with typical local furnishings and a great selection of dishes. When ordering you are asked whether the food should be prepared and how spicy it should be. Everything freshly cooked to order and served quickly. I had potatoes with spinach and found it very tasty. I would love to come back and recommend it as a vegetarian for healthy, delicious dishes.

First time eating Indian food, and what can I say, really delicious. The food took a little long to arrive, but it was freshly prepared. You can also choose between mild, medium and hot, where mild is really very mild and hot has the spiciness in the finish. The staff was also very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was a bit rustic but cozy. You shouldn't be deceived by the first visual impression from the outside. In terms of price it was also totally okay, so all in all, highly recommended.

The food is really very tasty. Personally, mild is too mild for me :D Prices are completely okay. The service is nice and courteous. You can pay in cash or with EC. But I would definitely make a reservation for the weekend ;)

Absolutely delicious and great price. I had chicken with vegetables and mango cream sauce from the lunch menu to take away. The meat was tender and juicy, the spices were subtle and perfectly balanced. Spiciness from mild to hot upon request. The rice was cooked perfectly. Absolutely recommended. If I wanted to eat in a restaurant, the music would be a bit too loud for me. But maybe that's because of my ears.🙉
