Shalimar in Berlin

An inconspicuous restaurant from the outside that I fell in love with because of the food and service. I regularly come here once or twice a month and have never been disappointed. The portions are more than large enough, so I often take the rest with me in reusable vytal boxes. The waitresses and waiters are very welcoming and there is homemade mango liqueur with the bill!

By far the best pakistani / indian place in Berlin, hands down. If I could I'd live in those curries. Family owned, insanely nice people, amazing food. If you don't come here you don't deserve curries. #68 is the best thing in the world.

Easily the best Pakistani/Indian restaurant in the Wedding/Gesundbrunnen area. Every dish is prepared freshly and super well seasoned. All meat dishes were on point, but also lots of veggie options available. Big portions, we had to take leftovers home. Great service too, very attentive staff who always ask if the dishes should be customised (spice level, inclusion of ginger & coriander etc.). Just be aware that they are quite popular in the neighbourhood and have a tiny kitchen. If it's crowded, you'll have to wait 45-60 minutes.

I had dinner here today. It was super tasty, with a subtle spiciness and great spices. The service was courteous and absolutely polite.

At first it seemed quite inconspicuous. But the food is great! Good portions and simply delicious and very authentic. The staff was super nice and friendly. It seemed like a lot of locals were repeat customers.

The Shalimar is a little oasis in Gesundbrunnen, one of my favorite restaurants, I actually shouldn't write the review because then too many people would know about the insider tip. In short, the best Pakistani restaurant...always delicious...a family business...with very nice service.... The food even got slightly better over time, a variety of spices, my tip is the mixed starter platter and then a main course is enough for two. The small terrace fills up quickly, but is very cozy, although there is no sun but it is nice in the summer. There are also some places inside with a nice atmosphere. Please believe the staff that spicy is REALLY spicy... but the food is generally not made particularly spicy, only upon specific request Nice to have you! I like to come eat here...

I just called and asked whether they are Halal . They categorically stated NO. Which i cannot understand since they are Urdu speaking from Pakistan. They however advertise on Google that they are Halal. Waleed from South Africa

All in all, the food is good, the operators are very nice, the atmosphere is unfortunately not very inviting, especially not in the restaurant, and the starters are sometimes a bit small.

Very tasty, but we waited about an hour for our food. It can happen that the kitchen is overloaded, but then you either announce the longer waiting times or apologize for it. If you only get a lecture after an hour of waiting, that's wrong. Not again.

I haven't experienced such poor and rude service in a long time. We had to wait forever for the food (there were only a few tables next to us occupied) and the taste was very bland.

Initial visit was quite a revelation - one of the best Indian/Pakistani meals I've ever had in Berlin (which is still a fairly low bar, but still). Good spice level, friendly staff. Hoping it holds up to the same standard on future visits! edit: a year later and I'm afraid it seems like quite a different place -- on another visit all of the dishes were rather bland and indistinguishable, lacking in spice and detail.

Never had Pakistani food before going at Shalimar and ever since I love it. Visited the restaurant many times, and quality and taste always remain great. They have delicious food, fast and friendly service. It’s a must try if you are in the neighborhood and if you like spicy dishes. Their Chickan Tikka is the best.

I have known this restaurant for 14 years. For me it is one of the best restaurants in all of Berlin. Big and tasty dishes, fresh ingredients and everything prepared on site, nothing pre-cooked. The family that runs the restaurant is very nice. Super recommended!!!

whilst on a short break from the U.K. to Germany with my wife We discovered this local to us the Shalimar res. Fantastic food and service, we ate there 3 times and were never disappointed we ate there 3 nights out of 5 nights we were there. Cant wait to go back

Shocked when the server came to us and said this meat is not halal! The server didn’t come again after putting food to check how is everything or ask if we want check. Roti dough was sour , stale and had smell of yeast. He claimed it’s naan but we knew it wasn’t. I will NOT recommend that place.

Lighting was bad and Pakistani food is not good. They were rude to us Pakistanis, many times Brown ppl in Berlin want so badly to be accepted here they gonna tear their own people down. They’ll never accept you so don’t reject us.

PATHETIC SERVICE. The waiters are very rude. People from Pakistan and India will not be served well. They will talk you down. The worst part is that the owners are from my region in Pakistan (Lalamusa) and their acts do not represent our local values.

Good food but very rude. If you are a Pakistani, they will probably be rude with you. I understand their target market is Europeans but we would also like to feel welcome sometimes.

Pretty unique flavors. Tasty food. The softest chicken I've ever tasted. Tandoori chicken was soft and flavorful. Good service. No dessert or any sweet dish is what got them one less star along with an item with less salt. Must try once.

Authentisches Essen, authentische Musik, sehr liebe Bedienung. Der Bananen Lassi war super und die Pakora Vorspeisenplatte sucht seinesgleichen. Auch die Hauptspeisen waren wirklich gut und durch die feine Koriandernote trotz Schärfe irgendwie erfrischend. Einziges Manko war dass die Räume etwas kahl waren, man nur Cash zahlen kann und die Bedienung vergessen hatte das wir zahlen wollten. Aber das Preis Leistungsverhältnis passt hier. Für einen Abend mit authentischem Curry eine gute Wahl!

Das Essen war lecker, aber leider unverhältnismäßig teuer. Außerdem haben wir nach längerem warten nur eine Schale Reis für drei Personen bekommen. Die Kellnerin war unaufmerksam und man musste quasi um Service bitten. Das warten auf die Rechnung dauerte weitere 25 Minuten. Schade.

...alles prima. Nicht nur Preis-Leistung stimmt, sondern man sihet, dass das Restaurant seit einer Generation von der gleichen Familie (Vater, Sohn, Sohn...) geführt wird. Das geht nur mit robuster Arbeit. Wer pakistanisch essen will ist hier richtig.

Mein absoluter Lieblingspakistani! Ich kann vor allem das kashmiri Chicken sehr empfehlen. Wir kommen regelmäßig und gerne her oder bestellen. Immer gut!

It was not very bad. But not at all exciting. Rice - dull in taste and, in my opinion, very overcooked. Main dish was at a level of a budget office canteen. It was nice of them to offer 1 popodam as a starter free of charge with 3 souses (very mediocre). Menu - very limited, nothing exciting. Price - quality relationship: not so good. But the service was decent and quick, the place was ok (music at times a bit too loud). I personally was disappointed, but cannot say that was awful.

Das Essen ist wirklich sehr lecker. Auch wenn man es bestellt, kommt es immer heiss! bei einem an, da der Laden seinen eigenen Lieferdienst hat. Das Essen wird in hochwertigen Verpackungen geliefert. Ein uriger Typ, der pausenlos telefoniert und seinen eigenen Charm hat liefert es es. Einziger Wehrmutstropfen ist, dass es wirklich sehr sehr teuer ist, was bestimmt auch an gestiegenen Energiepreisen und Inflation liegt. Da das Essen immer heiss ankommt, nicht so wie bei Lieferando, wo den Mitarbeitern es ja egal sein kann wie warm das Essen ist, bestelle ich dort auch oft. Vor Ort essen zu gehen lohnt sich aber auch!

I called them before but they didn't pick up my phone. I reached there anyway, and they told me there is no free sitting. I asked them if I could wait and they told me it's still not possible. I didn't taste the food but their behaviour was not professional - extremely unkind.

Nettes kleine Pakistanisches Restaurant mit guten Speisen, die Vorspeisensuppe war ausgezeichnet. Speisen hatten an dem Tag wohl etwas länger gedauert, weil das Restaurant voll war. Das Essen war gut aber ich hatte es besser in Erinnerung und der Service hatte von sich aus gefragt ob das Essen mit Ingwer und Koriander serviert werden sollte woraufhin ich meinte bitte kein Ingwer, kam aber doch mit. Das Ambiente wirkt etwas in die Jahre gekommen und könnte ein bisschen frischen Wind gebrauchen. Die Toiletten sind sauber und das Personal sehr freundlich.

Must have -chole bhature, good portion size with authentic Asian (Indian) taste. Go for Bhatura choice, it’s crispy and full of flavours. Ambience is average, but the food makes up for the overall experience. Caution: this is cash payment only, which could be a downside for travellers!

DAs ist mein absolutes Lieblingsrestaurant. Es ist alles wunderbar vor Ort wie auch der hauseigene Lieferdienst. Man kann direkt auf der website von Shalimar bestellen und muss nicht Lieferando oder ähnliches nutzen. Ausserdem kommt dein essen in Vital Behältern was so super ist! Der service ist super freundlich und fix und das beste ist das Essen, unschlagbares preis-Leistungsverhältnis! Eine Stammkundin!

The first restaurant where I saw zucchini, in 'Shahi paneer'! Service was ok but the rest was nowhere near to good. The worst experience!

Dies ist ein Familienesszimmer mit reichlichen Speisen, super nettem Personal und unglaublich viel Freundlichkeit. Probiert es selber aus und ihr werdet es nicht bereuen. Gute Preise, nostalgisches Ambiente besonders im hinteren Zimmer, eine Terrasse für's gute Wetter und und und... An excellent place to recommend full of good food and friendly people.

Ich hab immer gern bei euch gegessen. Über die Lockdownzeit hab ich regelmäßig bei euch bestellt. Jetzt macht ihr 2G (ohne dass eine Pflicht besteht) - was ne bittere Enttäuschung. Ich werde nicht mehr bei euch essen.

Essen hat geschmeckt und man wurde satt. Jedoch ziemlich teuer für das karge Ambiente des Lokals. Was aber gar nicht geht: Pfefferminzbeuteltee 3.10 Euro, kostet im Großhandel keine 5 Cent im Einkauf! 0,3 l Bier 5 Euro. Unverschämt!!! Außerdem Bild an der Wand eines Kindes mit Maschinenpistole! Ich werde das Lokal in Zukunft boykottieren.

Heard good things, unfortunately they do not serve Halal meat, and thankfully owner let us know that before. They do have vegetarian options.

Unfassbar leckeres Essen und tolle Atmosphäre. Besonders als lauwarmen Spätersommerabenden klasse. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis super. Qualität klasse - besonders zu empfehlen ist das Nanenbrot mit Knoblauch! Immer wieder gerne!

What a pathatic place to be. Hardly could spend 10 mins, not a nice ambiance, attitude and professionalism. Would not recommend and never would like to go again. Remember: Don't confuse that it's Pakistani resturant and everything is HALAL. I explicitly asked and been told that Lamb is not Halal and chicken supplied by Halal goods supplier.

Brilliant restaurant in a quiet street in a residential area of Wedding. The food and service are excellent. Well worth a visit and do try the chicken vindaloo.
