Senkoi-Sushi in Hamburg

It was just indescribable... Super tasty sushi & super nice owner with a cozy atmosphere. It's been a long time since I've had such good sushi.

A few days ago we ate sushi at Senkoi, it wasn't the first time nor the last time. The food was really delicious and one of the best sushis I have eaten. The staff is really very friendly so you feel comfortable. It is definitely recommended.

The service here is AWFUL, for starters, if you go to this restaurant you will notice that you cannot pay by card “momentarily”, this is a lie, we have been to this restaurant several times months ago and the card was still not accepted, probably so as not to declare everything… Then, the prices are incredibly high for sushi, it is twice as expensive as any other sushi here, and that is not my opinion not at all justified by the quality food. The wait is also endless, 30 minutes for a restaurant which has around 5 tables, and 3 of which were already served, this is not normal. But the worst is undoubtedly the staff, when we went there, there were 3 women behind the counter, they were doing absolutely nothing except laughing with each other, you have to call them for absolutely everything or else they won't don't come, when they take your order, they have AirPods in their ears, in short, a service that is very far from professional. Last point, we went there for the offer that they had posted on their Instagram indicating that all menus were 50% off, however when we received the bill (after they had done it twice because , not being professional and not knowing how to make an addition, they made a mistake twice), the amount was not equal to 50% of the price indicated on the menu, then when we told them, they laughed saying that the price was good. After proving to them by using the calculator to subtract a 5 year old child, that the price indicated was not equal to half the price on the menu, they just said that the prices on the menu were a mistake and that their boss had told them others (I don't even think it's legal). So we paid and they were 10 cents short of giving change (surprising for a restaurant that only takes cash), not wanting to give even a 10 cent tip to idiots like that, we told them told to find them however they could, and like magic 10 cents finally appeared. In the end, this restaurant is no longer what it was, the prices are too expensive, misleading, and the service is as unpleasant as possible, run away.

They are very friendly there and got an appetizer on the house. The food was delicious and really filled you up. I would definitely recommend it and go there again. However, it's a small shop and when it's full you feel very cramped. Still very nicely decorated.

Senkoi is by far the best sushi restaurant there is in Hamburg! The food fascinated me the most. The taste was amazing and the look, even more so! I can definitely recommend the restaurant to people who would like to eat something more fancy and are also looking for a good atmosphere with great employees. The location of the restaurant is also super central. This allows for a quick route and is also perfect for those of us who travel by public transport. All in all, all I can really say is; TOP restaurant and definitely worth a visit if you come from Hamburg or are visiting Hamburg! The price-performance ratio is more than just good! The prices are nothing for the fact that the food is prepared super fresh and hygienically and in such a great location. The restaurant is worth every cent! I will 100% come back!!!

I recently went to Senkoi Sushi and absolutely loved it! The quality of the sushi is outstanding – fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. This sushi shop is an absolute insider tip! The atmosphere is unbeatable – modern, stylish and designed with so much attention to detail that it simply inspires. The artistic koi decorations and the gorgeous turquoise velvet chairs in particular make this place unique in Hamburg. The employees put in an incredible amount of effort, not only in service, but especially in the presentation of the sushi. Each plate is a small work of art – fresh, creative and prepared with a lot of heart. 🥰 If you're looking for the best sushi experience in Hamburg, then you have to go here - it doesn't get any better!🫵

All three categories of food, service and ambience deserve five stars. Tempura chicken and the tempura shrimp are particularly recommended. Unfortunately, I had the experience that customers here are literally "shooed away" to make room for other customers - even though they haven't finished eating and drinking yet. This behavior seems extremely rude and unprofessional. Something like this is unacceptable to me and I will avoid this place in the future.

That was my worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. First, the table next to me was told that it was needed and to please hurry up. The plate arrived 15 minutes ago and was still about half full. The girls literally had to stuff themselves with the sushi. When they were gone, the waitress came to my table and cleared the table. I was shocked when she wanted to take my full glass without comment and took it from her hand and said that I was still drinking it. She then said that she needed the table because she had reservations and we should please leave and I should drink faster. That too twice more. Something so disrespectful doesn't work at all. I made the reservation myself and wasn't given a time slot. We were also there for just 50 minutes, of which we waited 30 minutes for the food. At the end I could still listen to insults. Sushi is not a to-go snack but something you want to enjoy. Unfortunately that is not possible here because the way customers are treated is bottom drawer. Furniture is also extremely uncomfortable and everything is rather run down and very cold. Save yourself the walk there. There are enough good sushi restaurants with professional service in Hamburg.

Very nice modern shop in the long row. Small but nice. Everything is just perfect there. The food, the service, the Asian local feeling you get there, the prices and the waiting time. Everything was top notch. I was never a sushi fan back then, I always thought that sushi couldn't be tasty until I had eaten at Senkoi. It was love at first sight. When I tried the chicken roll sushi for the first time I was amazed at how delicious sushi can taste:) I can only recommend everyone to go there. There is something for everyone for couples, friends, family or work colleagues 👍🏼

Perfect sushi experience! I absolutely loved my visit to this restaurant! The quality of the ingredients was outstanding – fresh fish, perfectly cooked rice and a beautiful presentation. I have been a big fan of Senkoi Sushi and have visited the restaurant often. The food was always delicious and I was always happy to recommend it to others. But after my last visit I'm just disappointed. My girlfriend and I had a reservation at 6:00 p.m. and were looking forward to a relaxing evening. But the service was extremely unfriendly. Although there were several tables available, we were pressured to vacate the table even though we hadn't finished. It was particularly shocking when my friend was still drinking her cocktail and the waitress shouted at her: “Then drink faster!” Something like that doesn't work at all. The bill was simply slapped on the counter and the tone remained disrespectful throughout. The food may continue to be great, but I definitely won't be coming back after this experience. This kind of treatment of guests is completely unacceptable and completely ruined our evening.

Something so cheeky and disrespectful has never happened to me in all my years of restaurant experience. We were simply expelled from our table after 40 minutes and told to leave because the table was needed. After we argued that we weren't told this because otherwise we would have gone somewhere else. We just got yelled at stupidly. Really never again!!!

Was invited here for dinner. If the entrance door is stuck, it's difficult to get it open. Restaurant very small, 6 tables with 16 seats. Tables are very close together, you can hear every word at the neighboring table. Furnishings very stylish and modern. The menu only had a QR code, the waitress could have told us yes when she seated us. We sat at the table and waited for the menu. 15 minutes later she came to the table and wanted to take the order, only then were we pointed out the QR code. Sushi was very nicely prepared but tasted just okay. There was no dessert on the menu, but there was a chocolate pudding with cream on the house, but only a chocolate pudding with two spoons for two people. The next morning at home I noticed that all the clothes I had on that evening, including my jacket, smelled like a chip shop.

Extremely nice spot, really tasty sushi and a different taste thanks to the special breading on the fried sushi + very courteous service 🌹 I live outside, but would always stop by when I'm in Hamburg. Rarely have I been so satisfied, thank you very much!

Worst sushi I've ever eaten. Rice old. Sushi no taste. Edamame breaks apart when touched. Anyone who calls that good hasn't tried real sushi.

The food was very good, but unfortunately it was far too cold in the restaurant, some of the employees were unfriendly and people used headphones to talk on the phone and sit visibly on the counter while ordering

Once and never again!!! Had sushi in the restaurant in January. The shop was cold and we were freezing. Food was good. The facility is already very run down. Card payment not possible. When I got the bill, I was given a dish that was 10 euros more expensive. Because of these lists, I didn't want to leave a tip, but there was no change in the cash register, so I was forced to round up to the nearest 5. Probably better to order online and check the invoice carefully.

I wouldn't want to go there a second time! It's important to mention that the store is really small. A lot of things would have to be rethought. It would be wise to renovate the store, set up a few fewer tables and exchange the armchairs for sturdy but delicate chairs in order to create more comfort for visiting customers. As an owner, it's best to have realistic assessments of customers and not accept all reservations at once. The size of the store simply doesn't allow for that, it creates a bad mood for the guests and makes work more difficult for the staff.

Sushi was brutally delicious <3 It couldn't be better and it's hard to beat the price with the current ongoing promotion [50% off all menus]. Ambience is very, very small, cramped and cozy. Places are very, very limited and you definitely have to reserve. A highlight are the places on the water wall, great pictures and atmosphere. It didn't really work out well despite making a reservation, it was disillusioning that we had to get up during the meal and sit at another table :[ that's impossible!!! Non-alcoholic cocktail was very tasty but also expensive at almost 8-10€. The staff was very friendly but when more people arrived it was a bit hectic and hustle and bustle!!! Overall, I would say it was a great experience with a few small negative aspects. The shop could also be renovated again, it looks a bit worn out, the toilet was funny / mini but so far okkkk!!!

A small, very nicely decorated restaurant. The owner is so friendly and accommodating, it really doesn't happen that often anymore! He even deals with difficult guests politely and professionally. Hats off. The sushi was very tasty and of the best quality. We felt completely comfortable. If we are in Hamburg again, we will definitely come back.

I do not recommend this place. This is the most disappointing restaurant experience I’ve ever had. I made a reservation for a table to celebrate my birthday, and I was really looking forward to it. However, when I arrived, the entrance door was not functioning, the restaurant had only six tables crammed next to each other, and the waiter was extremely rude. He didn’t even know the name of the client arriving and asked to see the reservation. When I asked about the payment options, he said cash only, even though I had received no prior notice about this. He was incredibly impolite and even said, “This is how we do things here.” My birthday was ruined because of an unprofessional and disrespectful staff member.

We spontaneously went to Senkoi Sushi for dinner and were completely satisfied. The bowls are a great alternative to normal sushi and have a good price-performance ratio. Two small spring rolls were included on the house as a starter. The bowls were tasty and fresh, the house sauces were very good. Drinks are presented just as much as the food. The service was friendly and quick even though all tables (small restaurant) were occupied. But be careful: only cash payment possible.

The food was good and nicely prepared, the staff was also nice, but the hygiene was very lacking, the floor was full of leftovers and very dirty, I wouldn't use the toilet either.

Unfortunately, my experience at Senkoi Sushi was anything but satisfactory. I ordered a sushi platter and pointed out when ordering that I have a peanut allergy. However, the allergen information was not labeled correctly and a severe allergic reaction occurred, requiring a visit to the emergency room. When I mentioned this to the waiter when I first had allergy symptoms, he reacted unfriendly and unreasonably. When I asked again, he reluctantly admitted that wasabi nuts were used, but without pointing out that they actually contained peanuts. Such carelessness and lack of transparency when dealing with potential allergens is unacceptable. It shows a worrying attitude towards guest safety that urgently needs to be improved.

This is the tastiest sushi I've eaten in my life! It's worth every penny. The service was very nice and tried hard. Top restaurant!

Senkoi is a very nice, tasty and recommended restaurant. The sushi was very tasty, high quality and varied. We ordered the platter for 4 people which was super varied and was enough for all of us. The waiter was very personable, attentive and polite. The atmosphere was a bit cramped but nicely and comfortably furnished. The price-performance ratio was absolutely acceptable for the price and we received very tasty food. We felt very comfortable and would happily recommend this restaurant.

We ate here and the sushi was very good. However, we were given the wrong amount and the waiter overcharged over €30 despite already giving a tip. When we later commented on this - not because of the money, but as a matter of principle, since more than half of the amount was given incorrectly - we were rudely replied that they had assumed it was a tip.

Small but nicely furnished. The prices are a bit high but that's because it's in an expensive area. We ordered two crispy rolls chicken and shrimp. Shrimp were very tasty but unfortunately you could taste the oil in the chicken which made the whole thing unappetizing. Otherwise I would have liked a little more service.

Fish was very good quality, and Gyoza delicious. If you like big portion sizes, this place is for you. ;) Really cool decor and friendly staff. Very good selection of non-alcoholic drinks!

Very unfriendly service. I was there last weekend with a friend. The employee was busy with his cell phone the whole time. He didn't show us any loan attentively. Then the tables there are very small and everything was too narrow. Hopefully I asked him if we could go to another table and he said that wouldn't be possible here as soon as influenza came. Even though I made a reservation in advance, it was outrageous.

Very good (fusion) sushi - the quality of the ingredients is TOP. I really like that they use a lot of different and interesting ingredients, it tastes very unique and delicious. I can particularly recommend the Senkoi and Langezeile Roll. At first the prices seem high, but for the quality it is A1. Service is super friendly :) I'll be happy to come back :)

The shop looks inconspicuous from the outside and the furnishings seem a bit special. But that shouldn't put you off as there is delicious food here. The sushi, especially the special rolls, are very tasty. They have a complex taste and a special mouthfeel when eaten. The composition of the special rolls differ from one or another sushi shop. The quality of the ingredients is very good and emphasis is placed on freshness. The soy sauce could be more intense for my taste. The staff is very friendly and always there when you need them. The price-performance ratio is definitely right here. So if you like sushi from fusion cuisine, you're in good hands here.

Unfortunately, Senkoi Sushi disappointed us very much. When we arrived, the tables were still untidy from previous guests. The two employees who were on site preferred to talk to a group of men outside instead of attending to the guests in the restaurant. In the end we were even charged €17 too much, which we only noticed afterwards. We had only heard good things about the restaurant so we wanted to try it, but our experience was extremely disappointing. Absolutely not recommended.

Not recommended! The service is a complete disaster & the opening times are not adhered to. Sad! You start another journey and then it's closed! I really wonder if the toilets are cleaned too... totally dirty! Not even the employees would agree to that!

First impression is great (especially on Instagram), but when you take a closer look, it's yucky. We had the large sushi platter, which really fed 4 people and represented a good variation of the menu. However, anyone who has ever eaten good sushi will quickly recognize the discrepancies and will be more likely to be disappointed. The rolls fell apart easily and were rather difficult to handle. In general, the selection was with a lot of fried sushi, which has its charm, but you notice it while eating and then very clearly in your stomach, there was simply a lack of freshness overall. Drinks are almost ridiculously expensive and you can only pay in cash. The room is very small and cramped. It's also better not to look closely behind the counter and perhaps avoid the toilet. It wasn't a total failure, but unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it to friends.

Charging absolutely NOT recommended!!!!! We had a reservation there and when we arrived (already five minutes late) all the tables were occupied and had just gotten their drinks. The waitress was initially friendly and said we would have to wait a little longer. After waiting twenty more minutes, the gentleman came to us and said he had sent the guests away for us and given them their food to take away. We found that a bit strange. We ordered our food and while waiting we had the same scenario at the next table as more guests came with reservations and everything was full. After 50 minutes of waiting, the waitress came to us and said that the table would be reserved again in the next ten minutes is and asked us to go and take our food with us too. After we said we had to eat in the cold because we lived further away, he said he couldn't help it and we had to go anyway. After we said we didn't want to take the food anymore because we didn't want to eat our €30 sushi on the street, he got angry. Conclusion: Despite a reservation and a long wait, we were KICKED OUT that evening and have the feeling that this is a scam to make more money because the shop is very small (6 tables).

Sorry... but it couldn't be more chaotic... Order placed online for pickup at Lieferando was canceled. Contact called… “I'm not working today, my colleague will be in touch soon. And we no longer work with Lieferando.” never received a call back. Called different number as stored on Insta. Nobody answers... well: there's a shop in the neighborhood. Passed by, pre-ordered. There's a board outside: we deliver with Lieferando... hmm... strange. No card payment possible… well. On site at the agreed time… there was no order for me, or something completely different… Conclusion: home without sushi. Thanks for nothing.

Typical Insta trap. Everything looks nice and spacious in the pictures and when you're there you almost get claustrophobic because it's so cramped in places. It's okay to be a little creative with dishes, but for us some sushi rolls had less to do with delicious classic sushi (less is often more). Definitely not a recommendation in terms of the ambience or the food.

There were two of us there. Very small restaurant, which is why a reservation is highly recommended. It is beautifully designed, but far too small for a restaurant. I felt like everyone could watch me eat. The sushi took a while to be served. While we waited, two tables had already finished eating. The food was overall good/mediocre, but the prices were clearly overpriced. PS: If you want to pay by card or insist on an invoice, this is definitely not the place for you. Unfortunately we won't be going there anymore.

Even after prior arrangement, we were forgotten by the service staff both while we were waiting for our table and twice while we wanted to pay and had to run after us several times. When paying, NeoTaste refused the discount and insisted on the full price because “offers are not valid on weekends”. This is not stated on any of the websites, nor in the store itself, nor in the NeoTaste app. On the contrary, NeoTaste offers discounts especially for these days and an influencer on Instagram, for example, advertises an offer that can be redeemed with her discount card in the restaurant and that is also valid on weekends. So why don't I get the discount on Fridays? When I asked, even the employees couldn't tell me how they could know that, it was just like that. Other reviews say that reservations are canceled for no reason as soon as discount codes are given, so this seems to be done deliberately. The card payment that is sometimes advertised online has also been “temporarily unavailable” locally for over a year. I would at least call it conspicuous, but I'm not responsible for something like that. Overall, despite good food and generally friendly service, unfortunately not recommended.

Where should I start? We came here based on recommendations from some influencers to break the fast and were more than shocked. The water plus dates and bread arrived 10 minutes after the actual time to break the fast, even though we were there on time. The bread was definitely not fresh. Now to the actual food: the service staff was extremely overwhelmed by the (small) number of guests. Prices are far too high for what ends up on the plate. Bowls consisted almost entirely of rice. I've never experienced or heard of anything like that and I'm more than shocked. The spring rolls, which were supposed to come free when breaking the fast, weren't there either. At least 40% off the food because of Ramadan. Even that is still too much for what happened this evening - namely nothing. Unfortunately, our glasses were full of fingerprints and some of the dishes were damaged. For me it doesn't have the feel of a restaurant, but is more like a small room with far too little space. Then go to the competition!

Food was nothing exceptional but the price was pretty high. But the main complaint was that service from waiter was no good. Service was very weird. Not acceptable at all. Also it is sooo tiny.

Doesn’t worth the price at all!

We wouldn't come again. Price performance poor and overall somehow suspect. We had reserved there for 7 people for a birthday. Unfortunately, someone spontaneously dropped out, which in retrospect was somehow “good” because I don't know how the seven of us would have found space there. Unfortunately the table we had reserved was still occupied - but that can happen :) Unfortunately, we had to sit close to the entrance door, which has been broken (probably for a long time) and doesn't close again after guests enter, so at some point two of us ended up sitting in the restaurant wrapped in jackets. Otherwise the shop is really cute and cozy and the sushi platters look great. We were thrilled. Definitely recommended for photos - unfortunately not the food. We ordered various cocktails, bowls and sushi. Everything came at different times - the drinks were sometimes 15 minutes apart. The cocktails were delicious so far, but we ordered the same one three times and received three different cocktails in different sizes, each of which was missing different ingredients. It was still tasty, but getting a mango mojito with and without mango puree is a shame. Mango, pineapple and lichee juice were out - but Mango Mojito WITH MANGO JUICE AND (actually) PUREE worked - explains that to me haha The sushi was ok. Unfortunately the fish did not correspond to the prices quoted. The rice to filling ratio was good. The sushi often stuck strongly to the slate plates, so that some of it fell apart even when carefully removed. The rice was unusually long and firm - we know otherwise. And either rice or nori was very tough. We can recommend the crispy rolls - especially the chicken was very tasty. We cannot recommend the bowls. We chose 2 of 8 toppings - 1 of which came anyway, for which we apologized and 2 fried shrimp were added free of charge. Stupid if you don't like shrimp - but it's manageable. What was unbearable was that of the remaining 6 desired toppings, only 2 (!) were included. And why always fried onions, which were neither desired nor on the menu. Unfortunately, the salmon in the bowls didn't smell too fresh anymore and probably caused a stomach ache if I had a sensitive stomach. When we spoke to the staff, we were offered a new bowl - we only took the edamame separately, which came quickly. Explanation from the staff: the card is new as of today. We highly doubt that and even if it were, forgetting 4/6 ingredients seems unprofessional. Since 4 of our girls worked in various catering/service areas, we discussed this politely and after a phone call with the manager we received a €5 discount per bowl. Our bill came to €186 instead of €196. Of course you can only pay in cash - the EC device is “broken” and the cash registers are apparently broken too, so an invoice can only be sent out by email in the evening. Suspicious. Conclusion: More appearance than reality: price-performance does not match at all, you can buy better quality and cheaper sushi in many places in Hamburg.

First of all, the food and drink that was available was good! The seats are very nice but uncomfortable. According to the waiter, alcoholic drinks could not be served because the city of Hamburg doesn't want that, instead of saying that they don't have a serving license. Furthermore, the following items were not in stock, half the drinks menu, many lemonades, some starters such as the soups. You could only pay in cash and the machine for issuing a receipt was broken, a rogue who thinks bad things about it ;) Also broken was the door, which was constantly left open and which we always had to close to avoid catching a cold. Certainly a good shop for take-away, but not considering the prices.

Food arrived very late, as did the drinks, which only arrived after being requested. Way too overpriced for so little sushi. The €20 bill couldn't even be paid with a €50 note because there was no change available. (It was only possible to pay appropriately) Card payment also not possible. They didn't even say goodbye and they kept the remaining money. (It was nice at first, but later they were annoyed and very rude). I would have given a tip if the service was good, but it wasn't. Did all employees have their first day today? Especially the African gentleman. Way too overhyped.

It was an interesting experience. The sushi is delicious. It's better than ordering sushi from the usual suspects, but not outstanding. The prices are now probably in line with the market. It is beautifully presented and looks appealing. During our visit a new employee was trained. He was totally personable and hard-working. The instructing waiter colleague expressed suggestions for improvement and (constructive) criticism of him directly in front of the guests. For everyone involved, both new employees and guests, it might have been better to do this remotely. It was like a demonstration. In general, it can be a little more relaxed, it is not a star restaurant and, if you take a closer look, there is clearly more room for improvement in terms of furnishings and plumbing, for example, than too fine/accurate service. If the store were completely booked, it would be too tight for me personally. We were lucky that there were still spaces available. The most questionable thing is the payment/invoice modalities. Anyone who posts a LAMINATED note saying “EC device defective, no card payment” doesn’t seem to be interested in changing it. When the waiter told us the price of the meal without a bill, I did my part with a wink at the tax authorities.

We were explicitly asked to leave a review, which may affect the amount of other reviews. Overall it was a strange experience. The waiters are very behind and you would think they are trained professionals. But the shop is strange. It almost certainly doesn't have a liquor license, or it does NOT serve alcohol for some other reason. The cards and plates were already very worn out and there was nothing on the drinks menu about the water prices, so we - like many others apparently - fell for it and ordered a bottle. We shared the veggie gyoza and the veggie sushi menu. We actually wanted ramen because the sign outside said ramen, but oh well. The veggie sushi cost €29.95 and the Goyza cost €6.95. However, with a bottle of water we ended up with €59.60?! Unfortunately we didn't check it and ask at that moment. But something is wrong back and forth. You can ONLY pay in cash. That's not a problem if the machine is broken, but it seems to be a common practice. Maybe everyone should just ask for the invoice and have it issued in the future. Pretty sure it was our last time here. To end on a good note: The food was delicious and also very filling, we were definitely full afterwards.

I "absolutely" wanted to try Senkoi Sushi... So I take advantage of the opportunity to make a reservation there before an event on Sunday in the market hall... Conclusion: Small & cozy! Ambience, food & service simply totally attentive & authentic! As soon as the guests don't close the door behind them, even though they have previously noticed that the door won't close, the waiter rushes forward...wow The jasmine tea is the waiter's 'own blend' and really rounded off the meal! I will gladly come again!
