The price-performance ratio is not right. Very nice view, but overpriced for normal good, not exceptionally good food. Service - mediocre, Table linen leaves a lot to be desired for this price segment.

We were there at lunchtime with 15 people without having made a reservation. Everything inside was empty. Nevertheless, we were greeted with a big sigh. From the start, the waiter didn't feel like dealing with a large group. The food was mediocre and the service was poor. No comparison with the previous previous operator. Too bad...

Das i-Tüpferl dieser so besonderen „Location“ ist das gute Essen, wobei die optische und geschmackliche Feinheit jeder Speise darüber hinwegtrösten mag, dass ihre Wahl auf der Basis einer eher überschaubaren Karte zustande kam! Das Personal ist sehr nett! Gewünscht hätten wir uns indes, dass wir unseren Aperitif in der ihm gebührenden Zeit hätten genießen können - das Essen kam zu schnell, schon nach dem 3. Schluck! Für ein das Essen begleitendes Glas Wein bestand dann kein Interesse mehr! Schade, zumal bei dieser interessanten Weinkarte! Werden aber wiederkommen!

Overall it was a disappointment. Sure, the ambience, the view and the historical location definitely score points. But what appears visually impressive and idyllic belies the culinary performance. The service isn't really unfriendly, but it's not nice either and a bit arrogant. The food itself is okay, but the portions are outrageously small for the price. The wine was good and overpriced, but you can't expect anything else in a restaurant. Our conclusion: Nice view but not a convincing restaurant.

Der Service ist fanatastisch, das Essen ist hervorragend, das Ambiente und die Aussicht überragend! Im großen und ganzen überragend!

Essen war klasse. Aufgrund einer größeren Gruppe war es leider relativ laut, schade, dass Aperitif und Wein zum Essen parallel serviert werden - trotz meines Hinweises, den Wein bitte zum Essen zu bringen. Der Wein kam in zweiten Anlauf dann deutlich später. Der Hauptgang wurde verhältnismäßig flott serviert. Insofern: Zeitmanagement ist optimierungsbedürftig, ansonsten aber freundlicher Service.

After the concert (reserved on site beforehand), you can visit what is offered in the program booklet with a small menu. Guests without a reservation were greeted somewhat unfriendly, they were strictly informed that only one course was possible, either a starter or a main course, not both, and certainly not a dessert 🤔. There was only one drink menu for two people... Well, 9:15 p.m. is late for in the country, but concerts have been going on for years and you should be prepared. The food was very tasty, at the upper price limit now, and the house Riesling could also be offered for €9, not more than €10. Small water for €4.50 is also hefty, somehow that doesn't add up to the overall picture. Today you have to be grateful if you can still eat and be served,

Every year on our wedding anniversary, my husband and I surprise each other with a dinner date at a special restaurant. This year I decided on the Schlossschänkd. It was a fantastic evening! The location is simply wonderful, we had a magnificent view over the Rhine Valley. In the middle of the vineyard, you can sit on a terrace and enjoy a great dinner. The service was exactly what I wanted. Very accommodating, friendly, charming and professional. Our food (see photos) was super tasty, fresh, beautifully prepared, super filling, simply delicious! From me there is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this great evening

The scenery is unbeatable. Sipping Riesling, eating German delicacies, and looking at the Rhine Valley in the distance, it’s such a picturesque scene that’s hard to describe.

Sehr schöner Rahmen, mit fantastischem Blick über das Rheintal. Freundlicher Service, aber sehr lange Wartezeit (wir mussten fast 1 Stunde auf den Hauptgang warten) Qualität des Essens sehr gut, aber Preise inzwischen abgehoben, Hauptgerichte von 40 € aufwärts, Espresso 4,50 €Pr

Das Ambiente ist einfach großartig (auch wenn wir leider keinen Platz mehr auf der Terrasse bekommen haben). Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zugewandt. Super, dass es eine extra Konzert Speisekarte für das späte Abendessen nach dem Konzert gibt, die etwas kleiner ist als die sonstige Speisekarte. Allerdings sind die Preise schon sehr kräftig (für ein Nudelgericht mit Pfifferlingen 26 € das ist schon sehr teuer). Trotz der höheren Preise als in anderen Lokalitäten ein wunderbarer Ort. Man muss dort ja nicht täglich essen.

Wir fanden den RoséSekt zu lieblich. Ich würde mir eine größere Auswahl an echten Vorspeisen wünschen. Das Steak war sehr gut. Vielleicht eine größere Auswahl beim Rotwein??

Wir wurden mit 4 Personen in einem "Seitenraum" plaziert, es war laut und ziemlich eng. Da ich für 17 Uhr reserviert hatte wurden wir in den Raum für Konzertgäste (Konzertbeginn des Rheingau Musik Festival 18 Uhr) gebeten. Wir bekamen zuerst nur die "Konzertkarte" als Speisekarte zu Lesen, erst auf Nachfrage die komplette Karte. Bis kurz vor 6 wars eng und laut, danach hatten wir den Raum für uns allein. Das war wiederrum schön!

Nice, local place. Pasta was overcooked. Salad was drowning in oil & vinegar. Service was nice and attentive. Patio was nice.

Beautiful location with wonderful views. The food tastes good. Before concerts, unfortunately only with a very limited and not particularly creative menu. But: Poor, albeit super-fast service. We had an aperitif, wine and food at the same time. My husband was served before me. This doesn't fit the category the restaurant wants to belong to. Unfortunately this service came from the restaurant manager (in jeans and a t-shirt) so we wouldn't expect anything better here for another visit.

Review refers to the terrace of the Schlossschänke: we ordered a vegetarian tarte flambée and 2 glasses of wine. You will be given a pager to pick up your food. The tarte flambée could be picked up after just 2 (!) minutes. As expected, it was frozen food and tasted accordingly. The prices are far too high for that. Pure rip-off and unworthy of the location. Yes, the view is fantastic. Then it's better to go around the corner to the wine stand at Goetheblick - which also has a beautiful view and a small but fine selection of food (vespers) at reasonable prices.

War alles prima. Ein wunderschöner Tisch im Wintergarten mit Blick auf die Weinberge und den Rhein. Freundliche und sehr zügige Bedienung. Essen und Getränke waren sehr gut, preislich gehoben. Kommen auf jeden Fall gern wieder.

Visiting restaurant Schlossschänke was an almost surreal experience: The view is fantastic, the atmosphere almost impossible to dislike, being located on the premises of legendary riesling producer Schloss Johannisberg. It seems, however, that all of this is forgotten once you enter the restaurant: no attention at all was given by the staff to the wine menu, which we explicitly had to ask for (We also had to explicitly ask for hand towels). I definitely would've expected more attention on the wine and more attentive service in general. They had Alfred Gratien brut by the glass, which I enjoyed a lot. They also have their Silberback GG available for a good price (€75). The food is ok, the starters are perhaps a bit on the pricey side. The menus we got had some surprising inconsistencies; the wine list had a different set of food, it was not explained to us whether that was available or not. Also, only one of our three menus (the ones for the day) had the dessert "Sorbet des Tages" on it. Luckily, the one of us who actually wanted that dessert (me) had been given this particular piece of paper. The ice was a bit disappointing, but at least it was not expensive. To be fair to the restaurant, it should be noted that yesterday was also a concert day and therefore perhaps extra much to do. But all in all, given the price point and our expectations, I cannot recommend this restaurant. The Weinstube of Kruger-Rumpf is a better choice.

We ate tarte flambée on the terrace, which was ready after just two minutes and didn't taste like anything. Apparently frozen goods at high prices. The wines cost more than in smaller quantities in downtown Frankfurt. Maybe a case of “beware of rip-offs”? But the view is great.

A bit crowded, but definitely great view. Waitress was a bit overwhelmed and took a while to serve or tend to us when needed.

It is really a horrible place!!!!!! I arrived at the door and they saw me but not opening the door at all. Afterwards, they told me that I could not sit on the Terrasse if I don’t order food at 5pm. I said fine, I will sit outside. Then I wanted to order but they said not order at my place … very good! I think because I don’t look like local people… I don’t have the same Color … never again!

Sehr schönes Ambiente, tolle Aussicht, sehr guter Service, gutes Essen, interessante Auswahl auf der Speisekarte. Leider ist es schwierig einen Tisch direkt am Fenster zu bekommen, obwohl wir eine Woche vorher reserviert hatten. Der Tisch am Fenster war angeblich reserviert, aber wurde gar nicht besetzt. Das hat uns doch dann etwas irritiert. Schade! Trotzdem werden wir wiederkommen, die Dame, die uns bedient hat, war sehr aufmerksam.

Haben auf der wunderschönen Terrasse gesessen vor einem Konzert. Das Personal war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich, das Essen sowohl optisch als auch geschmacklich hervorragend! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

I really want the restaurant manager to see this. A restaurant with racist servers. The female staff member at the outer hall had a very bad attitude. I had the worst experience at this restaurant. We made a reservation for this restaurant on this trip and visited with high expectations. we experienced racism for the first time. First of all, I would like to say that we have no problem communicating in English because we went to school in the United States. I asked, “can we order now? ”She said “no ”and walked away. We talked to the manager about it and tried to leave the restaurant, but thanks to the friendly manager, we were able to eat. But it was the first time I heard “no”and her attitude ruined my trip. She was really unfriendly and rude. If you go to this restaurant, I hope you don't meet the female employee in charge of the outside hall. She ruined our trip and had a bad attitude 해외에서 처음으로 인종차별 겪은 식당 외부홀 담당여직원 최악 그동안 인종차별 당해본적이 없었던 건 운이 좋았던건지 이 식당에서 운이 없었던건지.. 최악

Der Service der Mitarbeiterin war ausgezeichnet, die Preise sind derartig in die Höhe gegangen, Vorspeise € 26, das wir wohl nicht mehr kommen werden.

Wir hatten schriftlich für 15:00 für Kaffee und Kuchen reserviert anlässlich meines Geburtstages, bekamen einen schönen Tisch zugewiesen im Restaurant, mussten diesen aber wieder verlassen, da wir nicht richtig essen wollten. Kuchen gäbe es nur im Innenraum. Der Wintergarten mit Blick blieb daher um diese Zeit nahezu komplett leer. Es gab nur drei Kuchen zur Auswahl. Die Kuchen selbst waren so kalt, als wären sie gerade erst aufgetaut worden. Alles nicht sehr liebevoll angerichtet. Das Personal war teils sehr laut und bis auf eine Kellnerin , die uns proaktiv wegen eines Sektes ansprach, sehr uninteressiert. Alles in allem nicht das Flair, das wir von früher kannten und auf das wir uns gefreut hatten.

Außergewöhnliche Kompositionen - die wunderbar geschmeckt haben und auf der Zunge vergingen. Alles frisch und köstlich. Herzlichen Dank, dass die Küche auf alle Unverträglichkeiten und Allergien eingegangen ist und diese auch ernst genommen hat. Der Service war sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend und kompetent. Danke für den schönen Abend. Ich hatte bereits im Februar mit meinem Mann meinen Geburtstag dort gefeiert, der einzige "Nachteil" war, dass es doch recht kalt war in dem Lokal. Vorne im Terrassenbereich ist der Blick traumhaft, aber es hat so gezogen, dass wir um einen Tisch im Restaurant gebeten haben. Das war auch überhaupt kein Problem. Wir freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Besuch.

We were there today (May 1st) and had something to eat and drink outside in the castle tavern. Two apple spritzers, a Spundekäs with pretzel and a tarte flambée and paid just under €30. The Spundekäs with pretzel was okay, I think it was a ready-made product from Schwälbchen. But the real hit was the tarte flambée, the edge was slightly burnt, it was topped with four pieces of hard-boiled egg, three slices of bacon and I think there were also a few pieces of onion on it. That was really nothing! I wouldn't buy it again! The staff is very friendly, that's what made it stand out at least.

Ausgezeichnetes Restaurant mit hervorragendem Ausblick in die Weinberge, das Rheintal und den Rheingau. Das Preisniveau ist hoch, aber dem Ambiente angemessen. Ein kleines Manko war, dass zum Spargel die Sauce Hollandaise vergessen wurde, was bei diesem Niveau nicht passieren sollte. Das Essen war dennoch hervorragend und wir kommen gerne wieder.

Wir waren Ostern da und hatten das einfach geniale Ostermenue. Es war fantastisch!

I am not sure how several reviews of this restaurant had been so negative. It was a Wednesday in the low season when we had lunch there. The ambience being on the terrace with covered roof was excellent with all the pleasant view of vines right in front. Both Gamal and Mamel, who served us, did so with excellent professionalism and humor. We had the grilled seabass and chateaubriand beef steak after a beef carpaccio starter, to pair with two Rieslings and a Pinot Noir, by the glass, from the Schloss Johannisberg. All were perfect. I guess coupled with the brilliant sun and mild breeze, we had a well satisfied meal and experience.

Wir kommen schon viele Jahr in die Schlossschenke. Der Service war schon immer sehr gut - seit dem der neue Küchenchef am Start ist, ist auch das Essen hervorragend.

The view is great, the design is a bit old inside (the chairs and tables look like at some beer garten). The food is good, but i would say that it is not so exceptional to charge so much money.

20 min to get the menu (asking multiple times), another 20 min plus for drinks. Got the wrong drinks but were told that was how it was in the system. No bread on our table, asked twice with no result. Main course came and it was not really what we ordered but accepted anyway as we were fed up with waiting. Again, we were told we remembered incorrectly what we ordered. Then it took forever to pay. Food was average at best. Schnitzel was to be served with cucumber salad according to menu. It was not served with the schnitzel and after asking for it, a green salad with cucumber added was served. Enjoy the view outside with a glass of wine and dine somewhere else. Noticed a lot of frustration from many tables.

New concept, new cuisine and a new chef from Austria for six months. Everything is ambitious. Implementation good. Everything is high quality, but also more expensive. The typical ostrich meal no longer exists, but that is probably the intention. You just have to know that. Service was impeccable and friendly. Of course, the view and location are always the same and always great.

Significantly too little performance for the requirements or simply far too expensive. Every ostrich restaurant in the area is better and more loving! No recommendation! Sehr gutes Essen; die Weinkarte könnte etwas umfangreicher sein.

Es war ein rundum schöner Abend. Das Ambiente war sehr schön und wir wurden gleich freundlich mit einem leckeren Sekt begrüßt. Das Essen war kreativ und das Kalbfleisch im Brotmantel super zart und sehr lecker. Unser Kellner, Herr Gaman rundete den gelungenen Valentinsabend durch einen hervorragenden Service ab.

Sehr schöne Location, toller Ausblick, Essen sehr gut. Wir waren Ende letzten Jahres schon da und waren sehr Begeistert, weshalb wir jetzt das Valentins Menü gebucht haben. Freundliche und zuvorkommende Bedienung und sehr gut abgestimmtes / abgeschmecktes Essen. Von der Anrichteweise bis zum Geschmack alles sehr gut.

Aussicht, Bedienung, Essen: alles tipptop. Vielleicht etwas teuer, aber das ist es wert, solange die Bedienung stimmt (klappt nicht immer, aber kein Minuspunkt, wir sind alles Menschen)

Great view that you pay for. Quality okay but not exceptional. Service underground - at least when we visited. I was with a friend on December 30th. there. It was relatively empty. When we walked in we were greeted by a lady. She asked us if we wanted something to eat or just something to drink. We said we probably just wanted wine and cake. We were then directed to the rustic tables in the middle. When we asked if we were allowed to sit at one of the tables with a view in the winter garden, we were told that they were only for eating. When I said we would eat soup instead of cake, they said that the tables were all reserved. My comment that it was difficult to imagine that all tables would be occupied in the next 30-40 minutes was not addressed. 90% of the tables were free. My companion didn't want to argue, so we sat down. When we finished and left, almost all the tables were still free 🤷🏼‍♂️ How customer-UN-oriented can you actually be...?!

Essen top Service top Ein Abend zum Wiederholen, da alles gepasst hat.

Wir waren begeistert von dem frischen kulinarischen Wind, der durch das schöne Schloss weht. Es gibt einen neuen Küchenchef, der sein Handwerk versteht und seiner Kreativität freien Lauf lässt. Auch der Service hat mitgezogen und insofern fühlten wir uns sehr willkommen und umsorgt. Die Karte ist international mit leichtem französischem Einfluss. Vom der eigenen Interpretation von Vitello Tonnato bis zu fantastischen Desserts (Der Johannisberg in Vanille war großartig!) konnten wir nichts bemängeln. Einfach nur gut! Wir kommen definitiv wieder!

Wir besuchten das Restaurant an einem sonnigen Dezembersamstag und fühlten uns im warmen Panorama-Wintergarten sehr gut aufgehoben. Wunderschöne Aussicht, sehr freundlicher Service und köstliches Essen zu angemessenenem Preis, da fehlte uns nichts mehr, daher fünf Sterne.

Das Essen und dies Auswahl der Speisen war top. Etwas lebhaft und laut die asiatischen Gäste. Service hatte uns irgendwie nicht auf dem Schirm.

Wir hatten ein traumhaften Lunch im Wintergarten! Speisen als auch Service waren beides "outstanding"! Nebst der Weinschänke von Goldatzel nun unsere zweit Nummer 1 in Johannisberg.

The views from this place are truly spectacular, taking your breath away. I have fond memories of my uncle sharing stories about this vineyard and castle. Walking through the trails with my family, we would listen to his tales of history and the various events he attended. This place holds a special place in my heart, filled with cherished memories.

Grandioser Blick, richtig gutes Essen und wunderbar kompetenter Service Schloss Johannisberg war für uns schon immer eine der schönsten Locations im Rheingau. Seit 2021 mit neuem Management und seit Spätsommer 2023 mit neuem Küchenchef sind jetzt Service und Essen auf einem sehr hohen Niveau, so dass wir ein großartiges Mittagessen geniessen konnten. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team! :-))) Das Chateaubriand mit Beilagen war sensationell. Zartes, sehr geschmackvolles Fleisch, hervorragende Blumenkohlcreme, sehr gut neu interpretiertes Kartoffelpüree, tolle Saucen. Und die Empfehlung eines Silberlacks (Riesling, Großes Gewächs, 2014, natürlich von Schloss Johannisberg) hat auch einen Weinliebhaber überzeugt, der ansonsten eigentlich nur Rotwein zum Rind trinkt. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

We went for a walk and a quick bite. There are (at least) 3 venues at the chateau. We saw a wine tasting tent, then there’s a terrace with self service (menu attached) with some simple food and their local wines, and a fancy restaurant in the closed terrace space, with a gorgeous view. The self service terrace with snacks, where we ate, was relatively crowded, the line for ordering was moving slowly, and the food was a bit overpriced (and a long wait) for what you get. Both the speed and the price point could be improved.

The location is picturesque, wine, tasty. Service is very poor. They judge and treat you based on your looks, not your intentions, that to me is so backdated and archaic!

Location is great but service is unfortunately equally terrible. We had a prior experience in this restaurant where service was already not great, with very slow service, forgotten orders and unengaged staff, on top of being overpriced for quality of food, but I had considered extenuating circumstances as we had a large table with kids late in the afternoon. This unfortunately proved not to be a one off as our last visit ended up being a complete disaster with service being unorganized, unprofessional and rude. The basics of customer service seem to be an unnecessary requirement for this restaurant management, and they did succeed to convince me and my family never to step foot there again. The sad thing is that this equally negatively influences my perception of the Schloss Johannisberg wine, which I used to highly appreciate and from now on will just substitute with other wines from the region. My recommendation: if you are enjoying a tour of the area, avoid this restaurant not alter your day.

C'était magnifique le cadre est luxueux et familiale. Les prix sont corrects par à port à la France. Le manger était tipiquement Allemand et délicieux, je bois pas d'alcool mais ma femme si elle a adoré le vin blanc.

Meine allseits lieblings Schänke zum einkehren. Es gibt hier immer abwechslungsreiche Gerichte auf der Karte. Der gute Wein vom Schloss Johannisburg und die tolle Aussicht runden das ganze fein ab, sodass insgesamt der Besuch zum tollen Event wird.

여기 뷰맛집.리즐링맛집.스테이크 맛집인정입니다. 육회는 조금 매워서 입맛에 따라 선호가 다를것같구요. chateaubriand ab2 person 메뉴 너무 맛있어요. 고기는 부들부들 야채는 한국인입맛에 딱맞는 맛이에요. 근데 양이 너무 많아서 다른 메뉴 안시키셔도 될것같아요. 저희는 운전해야해서 리즐링 한잔 추천해달라했는데 스테이크랑 너무 잘 어울리게 맛있었습니다. 뷰도 뷰지만 맛집으로 가보실만해요. 추천합니다
