SAPHIR-Sri Lankan Kitchen in Bamberg

There is great food here that I can't prepare myself, tastes like in Sri Lanka, worth every euro.

The restaurant is a bit out of the way, but very easy to reach by car. There is free parking on site. The ambience is rather modern and inconspicuous. But the food is really the highlight, it is really delicious and very well seasoned. You can tell that the quality here is significantly better than in most South Asian restaurants. Nevertheless, I have to deduct a point because, despite the really good cuisine, I find the prices a little too high.

The tiramisu with a Sri Lankan twist was very tasty :-) Also great rooms for family celebrations, birthdays - we would love to come back.

Delicious Sri Lankan restaurant in Bamberg. The authentic Sri Lankan dishes are delicious, but the portion sizes are quite small. Unfortunately, at the time of our visit there was a lot of fusion cuisine such as burgers etc, which are rather less authentic and are very much tailored to the German palate. We would like the menu to be significantly expanded to include original dishes from Sri Lanka, because that would be a unique selling point. Also authentically seasoned. The service is above average friendly and attentive, we really felt very comfortable in the Saphir. But the few Sri Lankan dishes are definitely worth recommending and worth traveling further afield.

I was at the Saphir with my mother in November when she visited me in Bamberg. The food was super tasty. Finally in Bamberg you can have something that you have never eaten before. The team was flexible regarding our reservation and the service team was super friendly and approachable. There is organic meat and simply super hospitable owners! We were the last ones and we had a nice chat! Absolute recommendation!

Went there several times because we liked the food. The first time, the service took forever even though we were early and there was only one other table occupied besides us. After 20 minutes the menu came, after 30 minutes we could order something and after 40 minutes we had something to drink. Similar the second time. On the third and final visit we waited over an hour for our drinks, in 34 degree temperatures. The food came 10 minutes before the drinks. The waitress somehow only brought out 2 drinks on the tray and then went back in...the other two waitresses didn't make any effort to help so that the overwhelmed pourer could be supported...(the outside area was half full) should go back to snacks change…they can’t provide service. Really too expensive for such poor service!

The two of us were there in the afternoon. The kitchen was still open after 2 p.m. and had hot dishes, which was very convenient for us. The traditional dish I ordered was very tasteful. The spices came through very well and overall the quality was very good. The portion size was reasonable and the dishes were fairly priced. Thank you for the pleasant atmosphere. Gladly again!

Very tasty food and very good service! After almost 2 hours of rowing in the dragon boat, we (12 people) deserved a good meal. And everyone actually found something tasty in “Saphir” and everyone was very satisfied. You have to do that first! 😉 At “Saphir” people are very hospitable and love what they do. You notice that and you taste it as a guest. We are happy to recommend this special restaurant and will definitely come back.

In the summer we had the entire restaurant with an outdoor area for a family celebration and were there in a large group of all ages. The preliminary discussions were very pleasant; we immediately felt our concerns were understood. At our request, a piano and a small loudspeaker system were also set up. The food was varied, there was something to suit every person, and it was very, very tasty, as were the imaginative cocktails. It was a wonderful evening. Thanks also for the good conversations “on the sidelines”!

We came to the restaurant through the gourmet block, which unfortunately was not recognized because the restaurant is no longer participating. As a courtesy we got 2 drinks on the house. The food was delicious, the portion was very large and the service was great.

The food was okay, but unfortunately the service is completely subpar! The lady is completely uninterested. Neither “nice to have you here”, nor “enjoy your meal” and not “how did you like it”. However, I stupidly tipped 10% like I always do. The lady didn't even say thank you. Napkins were only available upon request. The ambience and the location are actually quite good, but unfortunately it doesn't compensate for the rest in any way. Very unfortunate.

Wow... The food was beyond fantastic. Rarely have I eaten something so good in my life!!! The interplay of flavors, spices and consistency was simply perfect! The service and friendliness was also wonderful. I will definitely come again! By the way, the best mango lassi!

It was our first time at Saphir and we were thrilled. As a group of seven we got a spot outside under the umbrellas, which was great in this weather. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was super tasty and perfectly seasoned. The mango lassi and the homemade tiramisu were also great! There is a lot on offer here for vegans and vegetarians. Actually everything is without meat, unless you specifically order the meat version. And even then, care is taken to ensure that the meat comes from fair farms. Sydney, the boss, was also super nice and talked to us at the end.

The food was delicious, especially the tiramisu with Ceylon cinnamon. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor area and all the employees and the owner of the restaurant were super friendly and welcoming.

Yesterday, August 2nd, the two of us were in this restaurant. It has to be said that it is practically a sports restaurant at the rowing club. The beer garden is fine so far, just typical of a beer garden. The location is quiet and there is also parking nearby. Now, onto what makes a restaurant. From my perspective, that is the service and the performance that comes from the kitchen and is on the table. I'll start with the meal, the dishes that were served to us were tasty, but I have to say that for the price quoted, the portions are very manageable, considering that two thirds are rice or noodles and the rest with the side dishes the various Curis is filled up. Now I come to what really disappointed me, when it comes to the term service I really have a hard time associating it with this restaurant. If the waitress stands at the table several times and doesn't even ask if you want something to drink when the glasses are empty, I think it's simply a desert of service. My gut feeling tells me that I have visited the restaurant once and that in my opinion there is no need to repeat it. Nevertheless, I wish you a good implementation in the new location, you should just remember that it is no longer a snack bar like before, but a restaurant and in the restaurant it is very important that service comes first.

We recommend! We tried everything from the menu (Chicken Roll, Carrot Sambol, Mushroom Devilled, Vegan Curry and Watalappan). The taste was really fantastic. We will eat there again soon. Very tasty again in the new restaurant. The selection of food has become larger. A great taste experience.

Beautiful garden but the food and service were not that optimal. I only live 800m away and knew the restaurant as a folding boat. If I want Sri Lankan food, I go to Sri Lanka. Sorry for locals from Bamberg, there is nothing here.

Super tasty, healthy and unusual dishes, most of which are also gluten-free. Very hospitable towards children (including changing facilities in the women's and men's toilets). The hosts really made an effort and gave us a table for my girlfriend and me including 2 strollers, despite the announced large group. Gladly again!

If you want to go on a culinary journey, I can only recommend the cuisine of Sri Lanka. We had a small private party for 15 people... the catering from Sri Lanka was a culinary dream and the service was perfect. We all loved the taste! 10 out of 10 points 😊

We made a reservation for 5 people at 6pm on a Friday. The restaurant was still quite empty at this point and the owner frequently asked about us. We were very happy to have reserved so early, the whole restaurant quickly filled up. The food and service were just as great as our seat on the side behind the privacy screen. Despite the full house, we had a very good time.

This was our second time eating at Saphir on Erba Island. It looks a bit inconspicuous from the outside, but once you stand in the terrace area of ​​the Saphir, it turns out to be an inviting restaurant. We ordered the vegetarian Curry&Rice and Kotthu with beef. It was insanely good. There is also very attentive and warm service. At the end there was a cinnamon iramisu, which rounded off the evening perfectly. You can taste the love for the dishes and the country. We will come back!

Yesterday we ate at Saphir again and, as always, we were thrilled! Very tasty selection and good quality. You can also park for free and relax there in the middle of the greenery.

Tastes very good. However, the price-performance ratio is not right. Portions 'much' too small. Minced meat burger maybe 80 g of meat, fries, as counted. Chicken curry a wing with bones, otherwise a rice pan. If the portions don't get bigger, like they once did in Kaufland, where these positive reviews also come from, we'll do that Nothing would happen in the folding boat club in the long run. Small, somewhat hidden restaurant with very good Sri Lankan cuisine. The boss personally takes time for his guests, the food was there shortly after they were ordered and was very, very tasty. Definitely recommended.

Extremely tasty and high quality food! The products are mostly organic or from good husbandry. The food is very diverse and tastes simply great. The meat was totally tender and everything else was lovingly prepared. The service was absolutely courteous and attentive. Any time!

So leckeres Curry haben wir noch nie gegessen- einfach klasse! Besonders begeistert haben mich die herzhaften Kokosflocken dazu! Auch zu empfehlen: "Hoppers" - kannte ich vorher noch gar nicht. Wenn man mal ein besonderes Geschmackserlebnis sucht, ist man im Saphir definitiv am richtigen Platz. Schöne Location, sehr nettes Personal- eine familiäre Atmosphäre.
