Sagir Original Indische Küche in Hannover

The food itself is just about okay. Unfortunately, they're really ripping people off here. The side bread appears separately on the bill at the end of the meal, and they don't give it to you. The waiter was so pushy when we paid that I only noticed it afterward. For two portions and two drinks, we ended up paying 50 euros. That's simply too much for what was offered and the unpleasant feeling of having been cheated. P.S. Apparently, other customers have experienced the same thing. So it's not an isolated incident.

The ambiance is basic, with many areas feeling very improvised and the furnishings are shabby. The food is okay, but they sometimes offer rice and bread as extras, which then drives the cost for two people up from the usual €40 to a whopping €80. So: Beware!!!! Always ask about the prices. MUCH WORSE, BUT THIS IS: Table reservations for 7 pm are strictly refused. They say it's only possible at 6 pm or 7:30 pm, but in both cases, you can stay as long as you like! In other words: They want to avoid a potentially empty table at 6 pm and force guests into their own time zone. NEVER AGAIN

We ate there as a couple. The food was quite good, but we also felt ripped off by the complimentary side bread. €7.80 for some bread is quite a lot! It was also strange that we couldn't take the bill with us; we took a photo instead.

The food was delivered via Uber. Parts were missing, and the dish, which was described as mild and sweet, was neither. It was so spicy that my entire mouth burned. I will never order from them again.

The service was absolutely excellent and led us to try a few new dishes – which were delicious. Overall, we had a great evening and would gladly come back.

Yesterday, my family and I had a wonderful evening at Sagir. The dishes (vegetarian and lamb in various preparations) were excellent and had just the right amount of spice for a variety of tastes. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance and atmosphere were pleasant. Although I've lived in Hanover for decades, and I have too, I still think Sagir is the best Indian restaurant in Hanover 🙌 and I highly recommend it, and this won't be my last visit. I'd love to come back 😊

Very delicious food and friendly service. The restaurant is superb, fantastic, and very authentic. The dishes we ordered were very hearty and spicy, just as I wanted. You could taste every single spice, so I'm sure everything was fresh and carefully prepared. Sagir offers a wide selection of all dishes, including chicken, lamb, fish, and shrimp, as well as vegetarian options. I highly recommend it. Sagir is the best Indian restaurant in Hanover far and wide. The staff were very nice and friendly. We would love to come back.

The food was good and plentiful. What was really disappointing was that it took a long time due to all the delivery people, and the waitresses rarely came by, which was very hectic. No extra bread, sweets for the child, etc., like in other restaurants. The delivery service seems to be more lucrative for the restaurant, which is hurting business.

Truly horrible experience! We ordered Dal Makhani and Paneer Tikka masala. The curries are full of food color, sugar and literally no authentic taste. If you want to have a proper Indian food, never ever go to this restaurant. I am sorry for giving such a comment, but a truly horrendous experience. Even the naan is bad. I am not sure how this restaurant gets 4.5 rating. If you want an authentic indian food and taste, please don't go there.

Today, the two of us spontaneously decided to visit the Sagir restaurant on Sallstraße for the first time. The service was very friendly, the generously sized food was of good quality and perfectly seasoned. The mango lassi was also exactly to my taste. We also expect delicious Indian cuisine. Since it wasn't a particularly special personal holiday, the ambiance was perfectly fine. We didn't lack for anything.

This is not Indian restaurant. The food was disappointing and the waiter’s behavior was rude. To make it worse, they even charged 3 euros for just a cup of yogurt. Dear fellow Indians, please note — this is not a real Indian restaurant.

I could literally feel the negative vibe as soon as I entered the restaurant. I am the customer, I pay for the meal and the waiter dictated me how much I should order. When I disagreed, the waiter was pissed and refused to serve. Never I’ve seen a true and authentic Indian restaurant refusing to serve another Indian. NOTE: Put the real origin of the restaurant and stop fooling customers. I just read their reviews, horrible reviews, worst service, I regret even stepping into this place.

The paneer tikka masala was way too sweet, so much so that it simply didn't taste good. The paneer was very dry. My boyfriend had the same thing happen with another dish once, where it was way too sweet! The kitchen needs to change that urgently. I wouldn't order from there again.

Everything is just right here. We were pleasantly surprised. It's a bit inconspicuous and hidden, but it's worth coming here. We received a warm welcome and have rarely eaten such good Indian food. I ordered the lamb tikka masala and garlic naan bread. It was extremely disappointing. The lamb tikka masala was extremely sweet and not at all spicy. I love this dish, but it was absolutely not tasty here. The naan bread was completely bland and tasteless, even though it was supposed to have garlic. I won't order from here again.

I actually love Indian food, but this was truly disappointing. The dish was completely over-sugared, almost obtrusively sweet, and therefore completely inedible. Added to that was a strange black spice that not only smelled extremely strong, but also overpowered the entire flavor. Worst food experience of my life. I had read some reviews before coming but still decided to give it a try—huge mistake. The food was absolutely horrible. It felt like they tried to mix North Indian and South Indian styles but ended up ruining both. The taste and flavor were completely off. I couldn’t even eat more than 5 spoons, yet I had to pay the full amount 26£ without any apology or regret from the staff. When I gave feedback, they said "This style is made for Germans." Seriously? Then please rename the place to a German fusion restaurant, not an Indian one. This was NOT Indian food. Worst experience.

Außer uns saßen nur zwei Personen im Restaurant. Die Bedienung versprach frischen Koriander zum Essen dazu zu geben. Das Essen aus der Mittagskarte war innerhalb von wenigen Minuten serviert und sie schwieg wegen dem Koriander. Beide Essen sahen aus wie das Essen im Kindergarten. Der Reis war nicht durchgekocht und schmeckte alt. Die Soße war übergewürzt und schmeckte nach Konserviertes Zeug. In der Suppe waren allerlei Reste unschön geschnitten. Auf unsere Beschwerde hin, sagte die Bedienung , das sei einfach so und wir würden einen anderen Geschmack haben! Am Ende kam sie mit der vollen Rechnung, obwohl wir das Essen kaum gegessen hatten! Unhöflich wiederholte sie, andere Gäste wären bislang zufrieden gewesen! Schade, dass ich kein Foto vom Essen gemacht habe.

We tried the restaurant because of the gourmet block. The atmosphere could be a bit more cozy for my taste, but the service was very nice. I had the Tikka Massala and at first I thought it was a bit small. Together with the rice, the quantity was more than enough and I was very happy with the Tikka Massala.

What can you say? It's okay". Everything was strangely sweet, even the yoghurt dip with mint. Quite unspicy, absolutely not spicy even if you wish. Mango lassi way too thick, one had a slight dishwasher taste. At least not too greasy. Overall, I don't want to have it again.

Let's start with the ambience. Simple mainstrem interior with tables without tablecloths. Paper napkins. Undimmed lighting. Very simple. Service friendly and (almost too) fast. The soup was very good and spicy. The main course was as you would expect from an Indian, i.e. mediocre. The dessert (mango ice cream) in hard cubes. Rather loveless. For us, this Indian was new and had expectations because of the many good reviews, which unfortunately were not fulfilled - conclusion: an Indian, like everyone else.

We were in the Sagir Restaurant yesterday. The Sagir Restaurant in Hanover is an absolute highlight for all lovers of Indian cuisine. We had reserved a table for our group of 6 people and were personally welcomed with great warmth by the chef when we arrived and taken to ours table led. Every dish was perfectly prepared, whether mild or spicy or vegetarian or with meat, every palate gets its money's worth. But it wasn't just the food that completely convinced us. The service and friendliness of the staff were also first-class. Our wishes were always met with a smile and fulfilled promptly. The attentiveness of the staff contributed significantly to the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Overall, we give the Restaurant Sagir five stars in all areas. It is a place where you feel welcome and appreciated while being treated to delicious Indian food. We are already looking forward to our next visit and can recommend Sagir to anyone who is looking for an authentic Indian taste experience in Hanover. Everything was great, fair prices and very, very polished 👍

Today we had lunch at Sagir - absolutely top experience: First of all, a very tasty soup - as the main course a plate with rice and the respective dish. (vegetarian €8.90 - chicken €9.90) We avoided drinks because of the exorbitant prices (Cola €4 - 0.3 liter lassi €5 - tea €5) A taste experience and rice is included in the lunch menu.

It was super tasty, a bit small but very traditional. Reasonably priced and lots of choice with different variations. Highly recommended!

I don't recommend it at all. The food is not tasty. There is a lot of dirt in the restaurant. I saw insects in the kitchen. The chef doesn't wear gloves. The food is expensive and there is no cleanliness at all. Don't come here at all. Be careful not to eat this unclean food

Unfortunately, I fell for the side dish bread rip-off that the waiter forced on you. These are unfair methods used here and, in my opinion, border on malice. We will never visit the restaurant again. I wonder if the scam is worth it, given the loss of customers it entails. I will also warn other people not to visit. Addendum: the owner has now hired a lawyer who is putting the reviewers under pressure because of their negative reviews. Unfortunately, some people probably got scared and the reviews increased from 3.9 to 4.6 stars. I also received mail from Google but gave a detailed statement and will NOT delete my review. So please don't trust the good overall rating here. And please don't delete your review just because you're under pressure.

Last night we had a spontaneous and delicious Indian meal at Sagir. Very nice, friendly, attentive service. We had a starter, Garlic Naan and Cheese Naan with delicious dips and then we had main courses of lamb, chicken, vegetarian, and fish, all super tasty. Normal rice is served with every dish. Sagir's prices are cheaper than other Indian restaurants in Hanover. We all enjoyed it very much and would love to come back and try other dishes. highly recommended .

The food is a 10/10! The employees are super nice and attentive. The boss is also very personable :) And the restaurant's decor is an Indian dream! It is only recommended.

Original November 13th, 2023: The taste of the food was OK. Nothing spectacular. But not sloping either. The portion sizes are on the lower end. Especially for the price. What doesn't work at all is the non-transparent pricing policy for the supplements, which is obviously used intentionally to squeeze every last cent out of customers. It's time for Peter Giesel to come along with "Beware of rip-offs". Charging for rice, which according to the menu displayed in front of the restaurant is included, and then the already well-known "naan trick" are not the hallmarks of a sustainable business. This is how you lose trust and customers. Addendum on April 21, 2024: the restaurant asked Google to delete my review and provide evidence of my visit because the review would violate someone's personal rights. Thank God we still have a photo of the bill. I would have liked the restaurant to address the criticism and make the pricing policy more transparent and comprehensible. Whether on the menu or verbally from the waiter. According to other guests' reviews, this doesn't seem to be the case and the restaurant even sees itself as a victim of the bad reviews. Surely one or two people who have received such a notification from Google will be intimidated and have their review deleted. Therefore, the current rating of 4.0 is probably quite fake and in reality is probably even worse. Again: accept the criticism. And turns it off. Because you read this topic countless times here. Or lives with customers complaining about this aspect.

Beware of rip-offs! Our experience was disappointing. The food was OK but nothing special. However, we felt betrayed when we discovered that naan, sauces and rice, which were described as part of the dishes, were actually not included in the price, despite being suggested that way. We were literally ripped off. Because of this experience we will not come here again.

They wanted to force us to accept food that we hadn't ordered (a bread basket) based on a fictitious linguistic misunderstanding. More than 1 hour waiting time even though we were the only guests. Lieferando was supplied with food as if on an assembly line. Dirty tablecloths. We had to hand in the bill before leaving the restaurant. Addendum: After 3 years, the restaurant is now trying to have our review deleted.

Unfortunately, we were just as ripped off as the other reviews said. We were in a larger group at the restaurant. One of us wanted to order naan for himself. The waiter "kindly" suggested bringing a mixed naan basket. He then brought 2 large baskets for everyone. No word on the major additional costs. The garlic naan I wanted wasn't there. But some papadums. The waiter also “kindly” suggested a rice mix for the main courses. We thought we'd be smart and skip that and just use the normal rice that comes with the main courses anyway (that's what we knew from ordering via Lieferando). Unfortunately, the rice was billed separately and was not included in the main course. That wasn't mentioned anywhere either. Overall, the costs incurred are not exactly transparent. In the end we paid €8 more per nose than expected (€4 for naan + €4 for rice). In total there were around €50 hidden costs. I won't come back and won't order there again. Addendum after 5 months: Sagir is now trying to have my bad review deleted because I allegedly violate personal rights. Extremely likeable...

Unfortunately only 3 stars because the costs, e.g. rice or bread, are not transparent for the first visit. Hard to understand for me. Feels like a rip off! Update: I received a letter today because I had rated it negatively, which is incomprehensible given that it was previously 3 stars. It's a shame that energy is used to have a review deleted and not to work on the problem itself. Therefore only 1 Star for this management.

I often go out for Indian food, but Sagir was my best dining experience so far. I found the service to be very courteous and thoughtful. At no point did we think that anything we eat here wouldn't have to be paid for or charged for. (I have no idea how you get that idea) The portion wasn't huge, but it was still big enough that I even took something with me. The dessert was also super tasty. That was the Indian rice pudding, a delight! I'm not from Hanover, but I'll definitely eat here again when I'm in town.

We used to eat here more often and order from time to time. The taste was always good, the naan in particular was very tasty. We've been eating there again for a while now and it's really diminished. It was not at all clear in advance that you would have to pay extra for the rice. We were offered a mix and it sounded like everything was included with the main courses. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and we were almost 30 euros poorer as a result. The service was tried hard, but we had to ask about some things several times. We were also there with our 1-year-old son and when we wanted to leave early because he was too tired, it was not possible to transfer the food bowls that had already been prepared in the kitchen into take-away containers. My husband then had to go home alone with the child. The rest of our group ate on site and then packed up the leftover food at the end. I can't explain why the restaurant is so inflexible. It doesn't matter whether it's packed sooner or later. If we hadn't had a voucher book, the already hefty bill would have been even higher. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend Sagir - the price-performance ratio is no longer right at all.

I should have read the reviews properly beforehand. Our ordered naan was converted into a mixed bread basket with 2 extra dips without asking. The mint dip also tasted like sweet toothpaste. The main courses were charged without a side dish, so you had to order the rice separately. With the bottle of still water we had the feeling that it was a bottle refilled with tap water. We ordered food from this restaurant a long time ago and it was better there. Now I absolutely can't recommend it anymore

Absolutely disappointing! 2 small types of bread €3.90 each. But it is even more impossible to charge €3.90 or €6.90 extra for a bowl of rice with the main course. Things are literally “forced” on you. The bill is only placed on the table for a very short time and then immediately taken away again. Unfortunately, we were so surprised that we didn't insist on looking at the bill in peace because it seemed very high to us. After a walk, I went back in to do this, but the bill couldn't be found. Unfortunately, we didn't read the corresponding reviews until afterwards, otherwise we wouldn't have gone... Well, it's a shame 😡

This is the second time I've been there and I have to say it's delicious! I always choose something mild/sweet because I don't eat spicy food that well. The mild/sweet flavor is still very spicy and, for sensitive palates, is only recommended with a delicious lassi. But for people who like spicy food, this restaurant is recommended! Indian spiciness is simply something very special and a great experience. All Makhani are 100% recommended. There is also a lot of choice for vegetarians. Always my pleasure!

I was charged 5 euros for water and 4 euros for rice. The quantity is extremely small and the prices don’t match the quality.

The food tastes alright but the pricing is "unexpected". You might end up paying extra for rice following the suggestions of the waiter. Not a bad place overall but I would consider take aways rather than eat ins, although the atmosphere is still interesting.

Vorsicht mit den optionalen, Gewürz-Reis, der einen sehr hohen Aufpreis hat, aber explizit empfohlen werden dazu zu bestellen. So kommen bei drei sehr kleinen Reisschalen mit etwas Gewürz mal eben ca. 18 € zu den 3 bestellten Gerichten dazu. Die bei den Gerichten dazugehörigen Reisschalen (einfacher Reis) wurden dann aber nicht ausgegeben. Insgesamt, mit dem dazu passenden Verhalten, ist von einer Absicht auszugehen, hier nochmal ordenlich und unverhältnismäßig abzukassieren. Vorsicht!
