We went to the restaurant today. The food was very bad. The soup was awful and not fresh. We ordered kebab, but it was also very awful and not tasty. The chicken wasn't cooked well either. The food arrived too late, so we lost our appetites. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, we paid a fair amount, but the quality was terrible. I want my money back.

Last weekend i ate at safran restaurant in dusseldorf and the food was good but the service was bad we reserved a table but we had to wait she said and we just stood in front of the restaurant. After 5 minutes i approached the lady and said and ? She said yeah the table is not ready yet just go and sit. Finally after 10 minutes more she told us our table is ready everything was fine until i had to pay. I didn’t had any cash with me so they said yeah our internet is not working for the machine to pay by card so you have to go outside and look for an ATM across the street i said oke i went out and tried to get money but the ATM was not working i went back and told them the machine isn’t working they said oke go and look outside again there is one 6 minutes from here i said look i am not from here i just want to pay and go. Can someone come with me i am not familiar with this place the lady said that is not my problem but it is your problem sir ! I was like oke 😳 I can pay but youre machine is not working and suddenly it’s my problem so i just went to look for another ATM. I came back and paid and went outside. So i just want to tell my experience as a tourist. Like i said the food was good but the service was bad and no manners of the owner !

The food was awful, the kebab was factory-made and the meat was not even cooked, it looked like kebab, the rice was not cooked, the salad was stale and crappy, the bread was stale, we went from the Netherlands to eat Iranian food, we just felt bad, the tea was tasteless, the service was zero, we asked for onions and they cut an onion the size of a cantaloupe in half and brought it, the saffron restaurant was nothing, there was no color either 😡

Unfortunately, our visit was very disappointing. Although the restaurant offers Iranian cuisine, the dishes completely lacked typical flavor. The rice used was clearly not the kind characteristic of Iranian cuisine. The kebab had neither aroma nor the expected seasoning. The garnish was uninspired and inadequate – it consisted of nothing more than a halved lettuce leaf. The tomato wasn't grilled or cooked as one would expect. Furthermore, we had to wait a very long time for our food, which was ultimately served cold. Overall, the food did not meet the quality or taste standards one would expect from an Iranian restaurant.

It was a delivery order but my hotel was only 5 minutes away.. asked for utensils and did not get any. The rice was stale.. The chicken was okay. It might be better in person but definitely not to go.

The people are nice. We went without a reservation. At first, they told us we'd have to wait an hour, but after three minutes, they said there was a table available, and we sat down. The food arrived quickly and was good. I only have one comment: First, it's expensive. In my experience at grill restaurants, for example in Munich, a mixed plate for two people usually consists of six skewers, not just four. Four grilled skewers for 50 euros—I think two more skewers should have been included. The rice was a really generous portion 👍

It was our first time eating Persian food and it was absolutely delicious. From the eggplant dip to the tender, juicy meat, everything was fantastic! We highly recommend it.

The atmosphere was lovely and cozy, and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the food was bad. We ordered shish kebab and koobideh. Both dishes were very high in fat and had correspondingly little meat. The shish kebab was badly burnt on the outside and undercooked inside. Overall, it wasn't worth it, so I can't recommend this restaurant.

To the Esteemed Management of Restaurant Safran – Düsseldorf December 18, 2025 Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to formally submit my complaint regarding an incident that occurred approximately two days ago at your restaurant. I kindly request that you carefully review this matter and take appropriate action. I visited your restaurant with a guest and ordered a dish (chelokebab) including drinks. During the meal, I requested some onions. Unfortunately, I subsequently discovered that an additional €2.00 was charged for this, without any prior notification. Furthermore, a small glass of tea that I ordered for my guest was charged at €2.90, which, in my opinion, is not within the usual price range or expected standard. ... However, I am particularly displeased by the fact that, when I asked for the bill, an employee—apparently lacking sufficient professional qualifications in the service industry—told me the total amount without first providing me with a proper invoice or receipt, all while holding her personal purse. When I explicitly requested a receipt, instead of receiving a substantive answer, I was repeatedly asked why I needed one. Such behavior is neither professional nor in accordance with the basic standards of the restaurant industry. I would like to point out that I am a retired employee of the German judiciary and have lived in Germany for over 51 years. Based on my extensive experience, I can emphatically state that I have never encountered such conduct in a properly run restaurant. It goes without saying that: the issuance of a proper invoice or receipt is a legal right of every guest, additional charges without prior notification violate the principle of price transparency, and inappropriate and untrained behavior by the service staff damages the reputation of your establishment. I therefore urge the management of the Safran Restaurant to investigate the incident described and take appropriate measures, particularly regarding staff training, compliance with legal billing obligations, and improved customer service, to prevent similar incidents in the future. This letter is to be understood as an initial formal complaint. I sincerely hope that the matter can be resolved in this way and that no further action will be necessary. Sincerely, Kord

The service was very poor. Being busy is no excuse for rude behavior. The female staff member rounded up the bill herself and did not return our change until I asked, doing so with attitude. Later, she claimed our forgotten bags were gone, but luckily a colleague returned them. Very disappointing.

Great food and great atmosphere. The food is so good which makes is comparable with the restaurants in Iran. Definitely it was the best Persian restaurant I experienced outside of Iran. The neighbour is also great and close to a lot of shopping centers.

I would give more stars, but first of all: The ambiance is nice. The food tastes good. But… unfortunately, like with many Persian restaurants, you charge €20-30 for dishes and then give a small handful of sabzi with ONE tiny piece of feta cheese for several people. They're saving money in the wrong place. Yogurt costs €5-6 and you get a tiny portion. Khoresht, unfortunately, has far too little meat and a tiny portion, but costs almost €20. We Persians should change that; with Turkish and Arab restaurants, you get sauces for free, and side dishes and portions are larger and cheaper. Lotfan yekam ne in chiza fekr konid.

We had reserved a table but still had to wait. It then took about an hour for our food to be served. The kebabs were generally good and quite acceptable, although the meat quality could have been better. Furthermore, the prices are rather high compared to other restaurants.

Last week, six of us ate there and were generally satisfied. The service could be a bit more attentive, perhaps by asking if we needed anything else. I personally know Persian cuisine very well and find it more refined in terms of flavor, but my colleagues were all happy and, thanks to the generous appetizers, quite full.

Amazing Persian cuisine and efficient service.

I found this restaurant through Google and trusted the star ratings. The atmosphere was good, the staff was friendly, the food was reasonably priced, the presentation was good, and the rice was tasty. However, the kebab koobideh had no meaty flavor at all and was as tough as rubber. It's a real shame for a restaurant like this not to have good kebab. I hope the management takes this seriously.

They had put too much baking soda inside the kebab, the kebab was very puffy and hard, the meat could not be tasted at all, the kebab was really not good. And they still didn't bring the food, they asked if you were paying by card or bar? 👎🏼 Too much baking soda was used in the kebab koobideh. The kebab was very puffy and firm, almost like a hard cake. 1. The spinach borani we ordered was of very poor quality; it was dry and tough, making it inedible. We suggest using fresher borani. 2. The food was served cold, and we recommend ensuring it’s hot and of better quality when served. 3. The cleanliness of the restaurant, especially the tables, could be improved. Excellent Kebab, Poor Management Transparency! I have mixed feelings about Saffron Restaurant. The Koobideh Kebab is truly delicious and is the main reason I might return; the food quality is generally acceptable. However, the dining experience is consistently frustrating due to issues with payment and honesty. The staff repeatedly claimed the card machine was "broken," a clear sign that they prefer cash. It is disappointing that the restaurant does not simply display a sign stating "Cash Only" instead of misleading customers. The service staff is polite, but a management issue arises when paying: they often claim they lack small change to return to the customer. This lack of professionalism is embarrassing for an establishment and makes guests hesitant to leave a proper tip. Other details were subpar: the tea was flavorless, and the rice was Basmati, not authentic Iranian variety. In short, while the Kebab is a major draw, Saffron needs to improve its transparency with customers and address basic operational issues like having change available.

Excellent Iranian food. It's best to start with the appetizer platter. A great selection of main courses is also available. They even offer Iranian saffron beer. The prices are absolutely reasonable! One minor criticism: there's only one vegetarian dish on the menu.

Food: It was very tasty; we had the appetizer platter for four people. The marinated olives were a highlight. For the main course, we had a large skewer of lamb and chicken fillet with rice, accompanied by saffron beer. The meat was incredibly delicious, the rice was okay—I had to add a little salt. Service: There was only one waitress for all the tables, and she was quite busy. She didn't make the friendliest impression, but I wouldn't call her unfriendly. Card payment was accepted, but the tip percentage starts at 15%, which is a bit steep. I think 10% should be an option.

We liked the ambiance. But we were actually there for the food. There were four of us. And unfortunately, only the vegetarian enjoyed it. The smoked eggplant mousse was good. And the vegetable stir-fry. But we've never eaten such bad minced meat skewers. Such inferior meat, and not at all seasoned. The roast chicken was also bone dry. We wouldn't want to repeat that experience.

Incredibly unfriendly staff! There were ten of us at Safran and we spent a lot of money there – but we were treated as if we weren't welcome. Even when making the reservation, we were constantly annoyed and referred to the online reservation system, even though it didn't work. No understanding, no consideration – simply unprofessional. In the restaurant itself: no patience, no service, no friendliness whatsoever. We had to repeat our drink orders several times because we were simply ignored. The older lady who worked there was particularly negative – no empathy, no emotion, just ice-cold. When I wanted to pay, I was referred to a colleague who stared at me while talking on the phone. Only after asking for the third time and speaking a bit louder did she finally come over to me. This kind of behavior is simply disrespectful and embarrassing for a restaurant. The food was truly delicious, but that doesn't make up for the disastrous service. There were ten of us guests, friendly and willing to pay, but we were treated like we were a nuisance. I felt really uncomfortable. I wanted to introduce my business partner and his family to Persian cuisine, and the lady's behavior gave them a completely false impression of Persian culture and cuisine. Never again at Safran! Absolutely disappointing.

Good Iranian restaurant. I had the kebab and steak, and they tasted good. The rice was average, with no garnish or butter added. The biryani (yogurt with garlic and spinach) was good, and the yogurt was excellent. The service was good, and this restaurant is just average.

I visited Zafaran restaurant in Düsseldorf and was shocked by the unacceptable behavior of the receptionist. I was refused a table without any clear reason, and it seemed to be because I am Gulf Arab — which I consider discriminatory and deeply disappointing. I expected a professional and welcoming experience worthy of the restaurant’s name, but unfortunately, the treatment was disrespectful. I hope the management takes real action to ensure all guests are treated with respect and professionalism.

We went to the Safran Restaurant on Tuesday because we had read the positive reviews online and were expecting a good lunch. The ambiance itself was fine, but the service and food were unfortunately not impressive in any way. The food was mediocre and definitely nothing special. We asked for an onion, which we thought was a given. As we left the restaurant, we saw that the receipt outrageously charged €2 for one onion. Furthermore, it was not possible to pay by card, which of course is unacceptable for a restaurant. I also thought the food was too expensive for the price-performance ratio. If the food had been of good quality, then this would not have been a problem, but unfortunately this was not the case. First of all, I have to say that we were at a birthday dinner with seven people. I had asked in advance whether it would be possible to have beef, as one of the guests couldn't eat lamb or chicken. Beef was also offered on the menu. I was very kindly and politely assured that beef was available. When ordering the meal, we were then told there was no beef at all and that the guest should have a vegetable stir-fry. This was done by a very rude waitress. Unfortunately, the service staff had no experience in the restaurant industry; I myself come from the industry. Furthermore, the waitress was wearing a wool jacket with sleeves that went over her fingers and thus caught in the food. Absolutely unacceptable. It made me feel like I was being a nuisance. Card payments were only accepted upon request. The women's restroom was very clean, but unfortunately, the men had to use a completely filthy toilet and sit through a large puddle of water. Conclusion: If you don't value friendly service and servers who understand you, I can recommend this restaurant...the appetizer platter and dessert were fantastic. The food was also beautifully presented and delicious. You had to ask for your own drinks. The waitress also seemed to be overwhelmed by the request for dessert. Unfortunately, the female staff was very unfriendly, especially one woman, inattentive and incompetent. It's a shame they didn't even offer a free drink, as promises were made that weren't kept. It doesn't exactly speak volumes about customer service, as they left a considerable amount of money behind. I will definitely not eat there again. Addendum: Since not everything was eaten, we wanted to take the meat to go. We were simply given bowls and had to pack it ourselves at the table. I'm only used to the kitchen doing this for guests. Had high hopes. First impression was great. Appetizer was good-ish. Disappointed by the mains. Lamb chops were overcooked and very dry. The Baghali Polo lacked flavour. We’ve been to some amazing Persian restaurants and unfortunately this one wasn’t very good which is a pity cuz we were hoping to find a good place in Dusseldorf. Overall, I liked the restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh – the Mirza Ghasemi and Kashk-e Bademjan were particularly good. One minor criticism: The Shirazi salad was unfortunately very small in portions, and the ratio of ingredients (almost no tomatoes) wasn't quite balanced. I also found it a shame that card payments weren't possible.

First of all: the food is very good, some dishes could use a bit more salt, but you can always add more. The quality of the dishes is top-notch. The ambiance is pleasant, but the service is unfortunately not satisfactory. The ladies who served us were – with one exception – very attentive and friendly. However, the table was only cleared after we demonstratively stacked the empty dishes and glasses. We had to repeatedly call the waitress to order drinks, as they didn't think of it themselves or asked if everything was okay. We were there with a larger group, and we sat extremely close together. To be fair, I have to add that we were there on a Saturday and the restaurant was packed, but the lack of service still left a mark on the overall picture. Furthermore, during the week (possibly also on weekends; I experienced this myself during a midweek visit in June 2025), they like to claim that card payments are not accepted, but that's not true either. Card payments are indeed offered here, but why this payment method is refused on some occasions is something everyone can figure out for themselves.

We invited a group of our business partner there. The atmosphere and service were really good. The staff (Sadaf and Negin) were helpful and good in to job. We ordered a variety of meals. Kebabs (kiubudeh, chenjeh, joijeh) were tasteful and excellent but the rice was not iranian rice and Gheymeh was bitter. Ghormeh could be less oily. At overall I recommend the place but notice that it is not a budget restaurant.

The food was excellent, the restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the wait times weren't too long, even though it was very busy on the Saturday we were there. The rice was delicious with the butter provided, and the meat skewers were also incredibly tasty. The meat was clean and halal! The appetizer and bread were also highly recommended. If you want to try something new and like Ayran, you can try Dough. It's a cold yogurt drink and, unlike Ayran, has herbs and is carbonated. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's very tasty! The staff was also very nice and friendly. Even though we had our reservation an hour before closing time, everyone was very friendly, and the food arrived quickly enough that we could eat in peace without stress. Since the restaurant is very popular, I would recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. The restaurant is beautifully and elegantly decorated, and the chairs were very comfortable. Everything was great, and I will go there again and again! Highly recommended for Persian food!

As an Iranian, I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. The dishes reminded me of authentic Iranian flavors, and the restaurant had a warm and welcoming environment. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to experience real Persian cuisine. 👌🏼

Safran is not recommended at all. Yesterday I ate at the Safran restaurant. Since I had a foreign guest with me, we were immediately given the option to pay by card – and it worked without any problems. But even though I've been there several times, I experience the same thing every time: The waitress with glasses behaves extremely rudely, disrespectfully, and simply rudely when paying. She brazenly claims every time that card payments aren't accepted, even though I see with my own eyes that foreign guests can pay by card without any problems. It's quite obvious that she only demands cash from her own countrymen – and that is simply deliberate deception. In addition, I went there several times without a reservation, and each time I was not seated – even though the restaurant was empty. This seems completely arbitrary and makes the overall impression even more negative. Overall, I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant. The behavior is disrespectful, the payment process is unfair and discriminatory, and on top of that, the quality of the food has deteriorated significantly compared to before. For me, this was definitely the last time I went there.

The food is okay! It tastes good, but the texture and meat quantity are ridiculous for the price. To make matters worse, they said the credit card machine wasn’t working because they had no internet, and we needed to pay cash. It was weird! Did they not have a mobile network?

We went as a tourist group from Kuwait. The restaurant was poor in terms of service, but the food was good. The Iranian employee treated us rudely and shouted loudly at us, because we initially asked her to pay as individuals and not as a group. I won't be visiting again 👎🏼😹

The restaurant's interior is very nice and modern. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating is on a noisy main road. The food was very tasty. Unfortunately, my meat portion was very small. I had a main course with rice and chicken in a walnut and pomegranate sauce. It was very oily; you could see a real layer of fat floating on top... and there were no small pieces of walnut or pomegranate seeds as a topping, which would have been very nice. The meat weighed less than 100g, which was far too little for a main course.

There were 3 female staff, two of whom were younger and polite, but one of them, who was older, was extremely rude and impolite, while the restaurant was full of customers, talking loudly to the other younger female staff. The meat was dry, bland, and completely flavorless—more like cheap, pre-prepared food from a fast-food chain, but without any seasoning. Added to that was the rude and disrespectful staff, which made the already poor impression even worse.

The restaurant is Iranian. We asked them if it was halal. We ordered koobdeh kebab, lamb, garlic yogurt, and salad. The food was delicious. The kebab was better than the lamb. We also ordered falooda and bastani, which were delicious. The staff are friendly. The restaurant is air-conditioned. There is outdoor seating. If the indoor seating is crowded, I expect there will be a wait.

I've given a fair and honest review, but I have to mention a few points: 1. My companion and I were given an appetizer plate where we had to divide the leek by two. It seemed as if the appetizer plate was barely big enough for one person. There weren't enough herbs for the appetizer, and there was not enough spicy cheese. 2. The onion (which is a must for Persian food) was charged extra, and it was only half an onion, which we then had to cut in half (€2). 3. When we asked the lady about it, she argued with us in a very unfriendly and, above all, loud tone, so that other table neighbors had to overhear the conversation. 4. In general, it's unacceptable in Persian culture to charge for every little thing. For example, there are Persian restaurants in Düsseldorf that prepare a huge appetizer plate with tomatoes, cucumbers, walnuts, plenty of herbs for the appetizer, and lots of feta cheese. I must admit that the food was very tasty, but because of the points mentioned above, I will not be visiting this restaurant again. I will also inform friends, relatives, and everyone I know about it. It's a shame that they've damaged their reputation so much over such minor things. What a shame. I sincerely hope for improvement, if the owner even considers these suggestions.

We ordered kubideh and soltani, which were unfortunately only mediocre, and the portion of rice was quite small. I've eaten much better Persian cuisine elsewhere. The atmosphere was very loud, with screaming children. Cards aren't accepted here, only cash. Strangely, the waitress still didn't have any change, so we reluctantly had to tip more than we actually thought was appropriate.

Saffron Restaurant is an Iranian restaurant. The food is delicious.
