I now find the dismissive and snotty behavior of many service staff just shameful. In this case: friendly requests for seats (4) were skillfully ignored - well, it was almost full, so I'm not like that and wait. But waiting didn't help, we just stood there stupidly, so, second attempt: when were the reserved tables for? Answer: for now (!), again in passing. Understood. Thank you, the rating is deserved 👍 I worked in the catering industry for many years, no one has to tell me anything - but if I had behaved like that towards guests who wanted to eat with me, I would have rightly lost my job. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food, because we didn't get to eat it and we couldn't enjoy the atmosphere either.

The atmosphere is really quaint and worth seeing. The service was friendly and quick, even when all tables were occupied. The drinks came quickly and were as they should be. However, the food was disappointing as we were told beforehand. The portions were sufficiently large. The sauce on two different roast dishes was exactly the same and obviously in good condition. The roast meat was tender, but the roulade was too salty, which was just OK. The dumplings are okay, they could have been a little looser. The schnitzel was by no means homemade, dry and just not ok, the French fries were no different. At a price of over 20 euros per dish, you would expect something different.

If you're looking for a rustic pub, this is the place to be. The atmosphere is informal, friendly, and welcoming. Solid beer, good home-cooked food, and excellent service! Fun for the whole family! See you next time!

Unfortunately the food wasn't particularly good! A lot of ready-made food and the wine, which costs 4.50 euros in the store, was offered to us for 24 euros. You can also forget about service The lady can't even put something down and understand an order at the same time

Disappointing Experience – Not Recommended We ate at the restaurant today (March 30th) with six people and were unfortunately severely disappointed. Even the greeting from the stressed and unfriendly waitress made us feel uncomfortable. The service was generally uncaring and unattentive. The food: an absolute disaster! We ordered redfish fillet with fried potatoes – inedible. The fried potatoes were completely burnt (see photo), and the fish wasn't freshly cooked, but obviously just warmed up. We returned the food. The other dishes were also disappointing: bratwurst with mashed potatoes from a packet – a tragedy in terms of taste. Venison roast was okay, but again, the fried potatoes: completely burnt and inedible. The roulade was so over-seasoned that it tasted like a ready-made meal from the supermarket. It doesn't look like a trained chef is in the kitchen here. Particularly brazen: A wine that costs €4.50 in the supermarket is offered here for €23. For a restaurant in Thuringia with a culinary tradition, this is a disgrace. Conclusion: Absolutely not recommended. Zero stars, go somewhere else!

Whenever we're in Weimar, we go to the Sächsischer Hof for lunch and have always been completely satisfied. We're already looking forward to the next time.

We've eaten here twice. Both times we really enjoyed it and the portions were quite filling. The service was also on point.

Friendly welcome, very tasty food.

The two of us ate here on a Friday, just in time for lunch. The spring-like sun terrace invited you to linger. Unfortunately, the service only noticed our presence after 10 minutes. The service was then okay. We ordered a schnitzel, according to the menu with salad and fries and pork medallions with cream mushrooms with croquettes and salad. The food was served quickly, carelessly, the meat was fried to death and the mushrooms were canned. Sauces in general convenience. In terms of cuisine, you won't notice anything of a traditional inn here. When the service staff was asked about this, they said that the guests don't notice the difference between fresh and finished products and complain either way. It's a real shame, we'll never be here again.

During our visit to Weimar on March 15, 2025, we stopped at the Sächsische Hof to eat. I ordered half a crispy duck, my wife a roast onion, with dumpling and red cabbage. My wife's food was oversalted and there was no sign of onions until half a forkful. My half duck was actually supposed to be crispy, but it came to the table with wobbly skin, which I also told the service person. After the nice service person brought the unfortunate thing back into the kitchen and brought it back to the table after a short time, the animal had received some top heat and the sauce had been refilled, the result was the same as before. After a sample, I left the food. When the waitress came, I told her that the food wasn't really edible and that I had rarely had such a bad meal. We were given €12.95 off the total amount.

The three of us spontaneously went there for dinner today. It was very tasty and plentiful. The portions are great for the price/performance ratio. Mashed potatoes were homemade and the sauerbraten was very tender. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Not ordered. It was packed. Luckily we still got a table. Sauerbraten and beer. The Kutscherbier is a fruity beer, the Gothaer is a normal pilsner. Sauerbraten very good. Recommendation.

We are visiting Weimar but had no idea where to stop for an early dinner. We found this restaurant just as the husband was getting past the "hangry" point. So glad he found his weiner schnitzel! Food was great and service was good.

Good bourgeois, good value for money

The environment is quiet and clean, the behavior of the staff is very nice and friendly. The quality of the coffee was mediocre and not great.

Overall a good restaurant with friendly staff. We had the suckling pig knuckle which was quite good, the trout which was a bit dry and the schnitzel which in my opinion was far too small for the price and obviously came from the deep fryer.

We chose the Kutscherplatte and were not disappointed, dumplings, red cabbage, sauerkraut and a huge portion of meat. Delicious. The view of the delicious food was not obscured by greens. Gladly again.

As a couple and vacationers, we spontaneously stopped by the Saxon Hof for my birthday. The staff, in the person of a very likeable woman, was extremely friendly, courteous and willing to have a little chat. It was not a busy time at that time, so communication was very pleasant. The food came very quickly and was extremely tasty. (Schnitzel with fries and small roast venison) So all in all a recommendation, thumbs up and gladly again and again. There were 13 of us and we had reserved a table. That all went well. However, the service did not respond to any complaints or special requests. My food (goose breast) was a piece of coal. Totally hard and visibly burned. The dumplings and red cabbage were great. My plate with the burnt goose breast was cleared away without a word of apology or without any response to my criticism. Nothing!!!!! I myself come from the catering industry and am really sad about what this profession has become. Our waitress didn’t know the simplest forms, such as “Enjoy your meal” or “Did you enjoy it?” Very sad! Unfortunately, you won't see us in this house again. Friends of ours had already warned us and said that there was a lot to be desired in this restaurant. Sometimes you just have a bad day. But here it clearly seems to be due to the staff. Too bad, too bad...

Unfortunately there was no visit here. Here you get incorrect statements about reservations. Someone was still trying to help, but the evening was already ruined.

Unfortunately, the schnitzel was not of good quality (probably even pre-made) and much too small for the price. The sauerbraten with dumplings and red cabbage was good.

The three of us went there at short notice without a reservation. The table we were sitting at was reserved, but we had about an hour before the reservation, which was completely sufficient for us. Food was very tasty and portions were large. Red cabbage was served in an extra bowl for 2 dishes.

Ladies and Gentlemen We had planned to eat at your restaurant and had already sent you a table reservation request via email a week in advance. However, their reply let us know that a fixed reservation was not necessary and that we could just drop by spontaneously (see attachment). We have prepared our visit to you on this basis. Shortly before our scheduled visit, we called you again to confirm everything. However, to our surprise and disappointment, we were then informed that it was not possible to register at short notice and that no space was available. The contradictory information - first that reservations are not necessary and then that there is spontaneously no more space available - is extremely frustrating. Clear information from the start that you are fully booked and no reservation is possible would have informed us immediately and given us the opportunity to look for alternatives. Instead, we were unnecessarily delayed by unclear communication. We expect an explanation about this inadequate information policy and hope that more professional and transparent communication will prevail with you in the future.

Delicious food... great, small portions and you're still full. Had roast venison with dumpling and red cabbage. Service top very polite and attentive. Price performance fits.

Unfortunately the schnitzel wasn't that great, but the service responded really well to the "criticism". My husband immediately had other meat, even though he didn't necessarily want it. To be honest 👍🏽I really appreciate that and we would love to come back 🥰 and my food was very tasty 😋

A very rustic restaurant, at times you feel like you have been transported back to the old GDR times. But THAT is exactly what makes the place so charming. Rich selection of food and drinks, oriented towards the good Thuringian specialists. My next visit will take me there again!

Me and my grandmother had dinner in this well-known and praised place this evening. Unfortunately we had to be seriously disappointed. As soon as we sat down and placed our order, the food arrived (max. 2 minutes). So there was effectively no time to arrive, let alone sip your beer in peace. The food we got didn't even come close to meeting our expectations. It was lukewarm, the gravies were from a tube (Maggi would be better) and the meat was almost inedible because of its toughness. The literally cream of the crop was the apple strudel prepared in the microwave for a whopping €7.50. There was nothing wrong with the staff, and at the end we were thankfully given a cigarette on the house to suppress the taste. All in all, a major disappointment combined with an explicit warning for all future guests that you can spend your money better.

The landlord tries very hard to make his guests completely satisfied. We hadn't made a reservation, the house was completely full and we weren't turned away. We were able to order a drink at the counter and after about 20 minutes of waiting we had a table. Food came quickly and was tasty. Prices completely okay. We had a lovely evening.

There is a cozy and pleasant atmosphere here. The restaurant is rustically furnished with interesting pictures on the wall. The children particularly liked the stained glass windows. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We liked the food very much and it was good value for money. The toilets are clean. We'll be happy to come back, thank you for the great evening.

A nice restaurant where you can eat well. The service is attentive and very friendly. It's nice to sit in this restaurant. The quality of the food was very good, I would have liked the red cabbage to have been a little more refined and the sauerbraten to have had a little more acidity, but as we all know, that's a matter of taste. The price-performance ratio is great! We will be happy to visit the restaurant again.

The atmosphere is quaint and the service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately the food was totally spoiled by the sauce. This was completely over salted. Both with the goose breast and the coachman's plate. This completely overpowered the taste of the meat. Unfortunately the dumplings were rather soggy and tasteless. Good food, attentive, polite, friendly service, nice ambience. If you don't want to spoil your evening, you shouldn't order fish. The chef has not yet mastered the fine art of preparing fish, but otherwise he is a real master.

Food inedible, service more than listless. We had chanterelles with cream sauce and a side salad. The salad was old/brown and had ready-made dressing, the dumplings were completely watery and tasteless, as were the chanterelles, which were swimming in unseasoned sauce. Seldom eaten so badly.

The food could be better. Schnitzel very small. At the table in front of us someone was vomiting in his beer glass. My extra champion sauce was right out of a bag. Not a second time there.

Too hot in summer. No air conditioning. In summer, the “light” diet usually consists of dishes with sauerkraut or red cabbage.

Unfortunately the meat was extremely dry and a bit lacking in taste, Which was only surpassed by the tasteless “raw dumplings”. Overall, I haven't often experienced such a mediocre price-performance ratio.

Were there again today after a year... and what do I have to say... it was really crazy how bad it was. The schnitzel that I had praised so much...we were finished with the schnitzel. Fries were counted and 2 different types. There is better food for the money in any canteen. The medallions were fried to death... what a pity... what's wrong?? Super nice service and very tasty food. We were 4 adults and a child and had 4 different dishes. There was nothing to complain about with anyone. Everything was super tasty. We loved this amazing selection of fruit juice spritzers. Just great. The restaurant serves hot food throughout and is located in the heart of the city. We say thank you very much for the great hospitality.

Although tasty, nothing special and a bit too expensive

We were really looking forward to this lunch, but unfortunately it was very, very disappointing. The service was very nice. Drinks and food came quite quickly. My duck breast was very dry, the piece ended up being so hard and dry that it was hard to bite. The sauce didn't resemble a duck sauce and was just plain salty. Dumplings were drained and tasteless. The other food was a roulade the filling was a bit of bacon small piece of cucumber and the rest of the filling was onions which wasn't great. We paid €23 per portion. The price-performance ratio here is not right at all. So I wouldn't recommend it other than good home cooking, there is better food elsewhere!!!!

it’s a great place to taste the traditional food of the region. especially weimar soup is recommended before the main dish. the prices are a little bit higher but the food is very delicious and it is not something you can find everywhere in germany. a must go restaurant in weimar!

Roast, red cabbage and dumplings would have tasted delicious. On the other hand, the wasps and blowflies that immediately invaded the plate in large numbers in the garden restaurant were completely unbearable. It is recommended to eat only inside. The waitress - stressed and unfriendly - neither pointed this out nor offered any remedy. To forget.
