Great food, very courteous staff

Very good food. Everyone was immediately helpful and attentive. Wonderful anniversary evening.

A truly extraordinary experience from start to finish! Each dish presented a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, showcasing the chef’s mastery and creativity. The ambiance exuded sophistication, making it a perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. The staff’s attentiveness and knowledge added to the refined atmosphere, ensuring every moment was seamless and enjoyable. While I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, I did find the tiramisu a bit strong on the alcohol side, which overpowered the coffee flavor I typically love in this dessert. Additionally, I was a bit disappointed that oat milk wasn’t available for my cappuccino, as only regular cow’s milk was an option. One minor suggestion would be to offer an alternative to Axe chocolate as a refreshment in the WC to match the elegance found elsewhere in the restaurant. Beyond these small notes, I was thoroughly impressed and will absolutely be returning!

We were there with the family (3 couples) and everyone had a 4 course menu including wines. The bill ended up being €660. It was full and loud, more like a pub at a family celebration... a guest with us was sitting between two pillars... no waiter could serve him correctly. After I told the boss that the bottle served (Zweigelt Barrique) lacked the note of wood, our relationship that evening was disturbed. No matter, there were ups and downs in the menu sequence...well, the deserts were inferior to the Viennese schnitzel....The crust was sticky and inedible after 1 minute...even a portion that was ordered shortly afterwards was sticky and far from crispy. Appetizers such as veal tartare with mackerel were OK and the halibut was also praised by the guests. The pork belly miniature that was in the oven for 48 hours was bad...the crust was dry like wood and not crispy...the fat outweighed the meat, luckily the piece was only the size of a praline. I became aware of an article in the FAZ and traveled 200km and gathered the family there and everyone was looking forward to the food. Those who were on holiday in Carinthia this year were particularly disappointed (“the food at the mountain hut was great better)……PS.: None of the young people took a photo of the food or posted anything on social media….and that is probably the worst review for the evening.

Very good food and outstanding service. We each ordered a 4-course menu and were absolutely thrilled with every course. The kitchen was also very flexible when it came to special requests and the waitresses had a good eye for empty glasses. A visit is something special and you should allow enough time when ordering a menu. We'll definitely be back.

Great Austrian restaurant in Düsseldorf. We sat in the Stuberl and chose two 5-course menus and one a la carte. The absolutely great thing is that the 4 menus on offer can be combined with each other. The dishes were well presented, prepared with high-quality ingredients and great attention to detail and tasted great. Particularly noteworthy was the veal schnitzel, which was extremely tasty. The service was also outstanding, attentive and competent.

We had a very nice evening at Rubens. The service was extremely friendly and did everything to ensure that we got a nice table even without a reservation. The schnitzel and the Kaiserschmarren were a real highlight – perfectly prepared. There were also side dishes that were perfectly coordinated. As a guest you feel absolutely welcome here and can fully enjoy the atmosphere and the food. We'll definitely be back!

A fantastic culinary evening with perfect attentive service. Our four-legged friend was even thought of; water bowls and treats were prepared at the table. Great combinations of different flavors that all go perfectly together. Matching wine recommendation, which was a complete precision landing. Dear Rubens team, keep it up - we'll definitely be back.

This restaurant and its hosts are simply the best that Düsseldorf and Austria has to offer. Great ambience with outstanding food and a team that leaves nothing to be desired. There are Austrian specialties and old cuisine reinterpreted. A real treat. The hosts know their products from the FF. For us the best restaurant we know. The price is high, but worth every euro. A great experience.

It was my first time experiencing Austrian cuisine. The staff were hospitable and served great food. I would like to thank my colleague for inviting me.

This has very little to do with Austrian hospitality. The atmosphere is cool and uninviting. The strange horseshoe arch columns in the dining room are irritating. In any reasonably well-run Austrian inn you feel noticeably more comfortable and, above all, you eat better. A beautifully laid table looks different. There were four of us and so I was able to try different dishes or eat them myself. Some things, such as the potato salad with the Wiener Schnitzel or the pumpkin soup with the goat cheese strudel, are served in such small portions that it's almost embarrassing. In Austria you would never have side dishes placed on the table in a doll's tableware. You don't do something like that. Hospitality also means, among other things, wanting to give the guest more rather than little. Frittaten soup and Viennese schnitzel are served here in a quality that will bring tears to your eyes, but unfortunately not to make you happy. And when the breading of the Wiener Schnitzel is as thick as the meat, then you immediately know that it's no longer about enjoyment, but rather just about the landlord's satisfaction. As the saying goes, highly overrated. The prices, including the wines, are butter and pepper. The whole thing is nothing other than Austrian nonsense.

The food was truly out of this world. Incredibly delicious and coordinated surprise menu. But what really stands out is the friendly staff and owners. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back.

A very nice evening was spent at Rubens. Friendly welcome in a lovely atmosphere. There was already an amuse bouche on the table. We also had a Stiegl and a green Veltlinger sparkling wine. For starters we had Adler Fisch and the Germknödel stuffed with veal. Both with a lot Sophisticatedly prepared and very tasty. The main course was the Austrian homeland cuisine with its specialties. Very well souffled veal schnitzel and tender boiled beef. There was also a delicious recommended white cuvée. At the end there was a perfectly prepared Kaiserschmarrn and a good cheese plate. A nice trip to Austria that we enjoyed. Thank you for the good service.

The proximity to the art palace made us stop here, the guide gave the hint. We regretted it, on the contrary. The Rubens is a really nice Austrian restaurant. Perfect service! Nothing more needs to be said on the subject... but it has to these days. Attentive, not intrusive, friendly, not fake, motivated, not trying hard, fully booked, not overcrowded. It's just true here. The food is at a very good intersection between modern and classic. Great sauces, stocks, broths and soups. Braising is a perfected craft here, the side dishes offer either great contrast or nice underlining and the pastries are fun and happy. The ice cream served with it is incredibly creamy and tasty. If you get a chance at sorbet: do it!!! Large! The wine list is beautifully curated, could perhaps be a little more ambitious, but then you are very much in our personal niche... The wine has to be drunk too. The calculation here is also very fair, that should not go unmentioned, as should the large selection of non-alcoholic treasures from Jörg Geiger, who we highly value.

Just WOW couldn’t get any better.

From the outside the restaurant looks inconspicuous, but inside there is a real gem of Austrian cuisine. I went there with a friend and had one of the best culinary experiences ever in Düsseldorf. The schnitzel was the best I've ever eaten and the starters were exceptional too. To top it all off, there was Kaiserschmarrn as dessert. I look back fondly on this evening and look forward to coming back soon. Absolute recommendation!

Amazing food and great service! Nice small selection of modern and traditional dishes. I went for the veal tartar (with herb ice cream!), wienerschnitzel, veal stew and kaiserschmarrn, all were great. The servers were both very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I will definitely come back here the next time I visit Düsseldorf!

Wir waren vor ein paar Wochen zum ersten Mal in diesem Restaurant und waren von Anfang bis Ende rundum begeistert. Man kam herein und wir haben es als sehr angenehm empfunden, nicht direkt neben speisenden Gästen zu stehen und auf den Empfang zu warten. Dann wurden wir nach unten geführt, wo wir unseren Tisch neben den Weinregalen vorfanden, was ein sehr schönes Ambiente bot. Zudem saß man etwas abseits und hatte eine angenehme Ruhe. Als Paar war das sehr schön und angenehm. Apropos Weinflaschen: es gab ausschließlich österreichische Weine, was ich ebenfalls toll fand, denn davon hat Österreich ja nun einiges Gutes zu bieten. Das Essen konnte man entweder als Menü bestellen oder sich aus den Menüs einzelne Komponenten zusammenstellen. Wir haben ein Menü gewählt, konnten aber auch hier die Hauptspeise austauschen. Das war alles extrem unkompliziert. Die Beratung bei den Weinen war ausnahmslos ein Treffer! Das Essen war ein Gedicht. Alles hatte hervorragend geschmeckt. Wir fanden das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis sehr gut. Am Ende gingen wir satt, glücklich und zufrieden nach Hause und freuen uns jetzt schon auf unseren nächsten Besuch.

Paul was awesome, gave insightful recommendations for the wine and the menu was delicious - a modern, but still traditional Austrian kitchen. Especially the starter were fabulous. Also the contact with Cornelia Baumgart was great - she managed to get all our 13 people into a fully packed Saturday. Great job guys!

An absolute highlight in Düsseldorf. Austrian cuisine meets gourmet cuisine. Not cheap, but excellent value for money for Düsseldorf. Plus excellent service and lots of great ideas. The prices for wines are excellent, as is the selection.

Thankfully, tables are only reserved for a time slot of 15 minutes. Otherwise you would never get a place. Service is solution-oriented and very good. Unfortunately it takes a while between the starter and the main course, then you hardly have time for the Stiegel or the Grüner Veltliner. Always a successful evening. Cheers!

A truly outstanding Austrian restaurant in the center of Düsseldorf, in the premises of a former bank. We sat in the former safe room, which had been converted into a wine storage room, and felt very comfortable there throughout the evening. Rubens combines the classics of Austrian cuisine to create new, visually and tastefully appealing creations. Every walk becomes a poem. For the main course I ate a combination of Tafelspitz and Viennese veal schnitzel. It was the most delicious schnitzel I have ever eaten.

At least I feel that this location is a bit overrated, especially since me and my friends already know a number of restaurants with corresponding Austrian cuisine in Germany. The desserts and wines were consistently good to very good. The main dishes such as Wiener Schnitzel in a duet with boiled beef were rather average. A boiled beef the thickness of a slice of cooked ham cannot be a taste experience. The original Viennese disappointed us all, as it is so often mentioned here as the non plus ultra.

That's what I call a creative implementation of Austrian cuisine. Nothing completely crazy, just surprising creations. The yeast dumplings in Brathändl foam..., simply surprising and great! Service was top & attentive. We were called back by phone because a table could be organized for us for our spontaneous and very short-term request. It would be a shame if we would have missed such a great meal. It's a shame, this great restaurant is 450 km away from us...

We had dinner at Rubens last night. The waitresses are friendly and always concerned about the well-being of the guests. The dishes from Austrian cuisine are also a real highlight, appetizingly prepared and indescribably good in taste. The Baumgart couple and the entire Rubens team understand how to make a restaurant a true experience like few others. On the one hand, this is due to the excellent quality of the food and the skill in skillfully combining tradition with modernity, but on the other hand, it is also due to the wonderful host qualities of Ms. Baumgart. I would like to thank you very much for the wonderful evening, for the fact that special requests were addressed so easily and for the feeling of really being a guest, not a customer. It was a celebration again.

Bright rooms with harmonious decoration. Service was courteous and friendly. A restaurant ultimately sets the standard. The price that is set gives at least an indirect promise that eating is an experience. Unfortunately we cannot emphasize that. The Wiener Schnitzel (price 33 euros) had absolutely nothing to do with a Wiener Schnitzel. Visually it looked more like an NFL ball. Far from an original Wiener Schnitzel. The Tafelspitz...without comment. If you want to burn your money on middle-class food, this is the right place for you. We will not visit this restaurant again.

We spent a fantastic evening at Rubens. The Austrian dishes are creative, beautifully prepared and simply taste great. If you want to treat yourself to something, I recommend the wine accompaniment. Every single drink is explained with an Austrian charm and you can tell how much passion goes into it.

Upscale restaurant with a small but fine menu, super friendly and attentive staff and a nice ambience. The Wiener Schnitzel was phenomenal and even better than in Vienna itself. Vegetarians were also able to choose from several vegetarian dishes such as pretzel dumplings. Incredible crème brulee! An absolute recommendation!

Great! We had a lovely evening. Although it was very busy, the service was first class. Respect when the guest is served so pleasantly even with high rotation. The food was very good. Since I initially couldn't decide between two tempting starters, they made me a great suggestion: I got both in a 50:50 mix (for a small, very fair surcharge. Rightly so!) Main courses as well - fish and meat were both very tasty. The suggested wines went very well, the rose aperitif was delicious. I would be happy to visit this restaurant again in the future and would happily recommend it.

Zum ersten Besuch im Rubens haben wir uns für das 5 Gänge Menü "Reise durch die Karte" entschieden. Hierbei weiß man nicht, welche Gerichte man bekommt wird. Dies war die richtige Entscheidung, da jeder Gang eine Überraschung war sowie jedesmal ein Gaumenschmaus. Es ist schwer etwas zum Rubens zu sagen, was die Vorredner nicht schon gesagt haben. Fakt ist: Der Service und die Qualität sucht seines Gleichen. Uneingeschränkte Empfehlung, wenn man das passende Kleingeld besitzt.

Ein Lokal bei dem ich so gar nichts zu meckern hatte. Ganz im Gegenteil sogar. Man wird höflich abgeholt und zum Platz geführt, 2 kleine Grüße aus der Küche und eine hervorragende Einführung ins Menü. Bedienung zu jedem Gang freundlich den Teller erklärt. Eine wirklich gute Weinauswahl und auch gute Biere. Rundherum ein gelungener Abend, der sicherlich wiederholt wird.

Wir waren gestern zu viert bei Rubens zu Abend essen. Wir hatten drei gänge Menü und waren von dem Essen und Service sehr begeistert. Für einige Stunden würden wir nach Österreich entführt. Das Essen hat uns sehr an unseren letzten Urlaubstag in den Bergen erinnert. Wiener Schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn, Spinatknödel.....

Wir hatten wieder einen wunderbaren Abend in diesem tollen Restaurant. Qualität der Speisen und der Service können nicht besser sein. Ein Menü im Rubens ist jeden Euro wert!

Wir waren zu dritt zum Abendessen und haben das 5-Gang-Menü genossen (zwei verschiedene) und waren restlos begeistert. Allein die Art wie das Schnitzel souffliert wurde erinnert an den Auwirt von Christian und Markus Winkler und gehört somit zu den Weltbesten! Dem aufmerksamen und stets freundlichen Service, sowie der hochmotivierten Küchen-Crew ist die Begeisterung für die Gastronomie anzumerken. Alle Gerichte sind perfekt gegart und die umfangreiche Karte mit österreichischen Weinen lässt keine Wünsche offen! Wir kommen hundertprozentig wieder!

Wir hatten hier unsere Weihnachtsfeier und alles war richtig, richtig lecker! Wir haben ein Menü bekommen und vor allem die Spinat Kas Knödel waren der Wahnsinn! Aber auch die anderen Gerichte waren wirklich toll!

Ihr seid in der Gastronomie wirklich ein Vorzeigehaus.

Sehr leckere österreichische Küche. Wiener Schnitzel war superlecker. Der Kaiserschmarrn ein süßer Traum..Natürlich gibt es auch die passenden leckeren landestypischen Getränke dazu. Das Ambiene ist gemütlich, modern. Im Untergeschoss befinden sich auch noch sehr schöne Sitzplätze. In kleineren Räumen. Für eine kleinere Gesellschaft. Personal sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Also, ich als Kölnerin komme sehr gerne wieder.

Auf der Suche nach einem österreichischen Restaurant sind wir auf das Rubens gestoßen und können es nur empfehlen! Der Services war bereits bei unserer Ankunft zuvorkommend und absolut freundlich. Die Inhaberin hat uns durch die Menü- sowie Weinkarte geführt. Ebenfalls wurden uns gute Empfehlungen gegeben, welche wir im Verlauf des Abends nie bereut haben. Vorab gab es einen kleinen Gruß aus der Küche, welcher uns schon einen kulinarischen Vorgeschmack auf den Abend bieten sollte. Wir haben uns für das traditionelle 4-Gang Menü entschieden und jeder Gang für sich war herausragend! Mein Partner hatte sich hiebei für das Wiener Schnitzel entschieden und bereits beim servieren wurden wir vom Küchenchef selbst darauf hingewiesen, dass er gerne ein weiteres bekommen kann - sollte eines nicht reichen. Kurzum: Unsere Erwartungen wurden erfüllt, wenn nicht übertroffen. Preis stehen zur Qualität und Service im Einklang. Eine kleine kulinarische Reise in die Steiermark ist in diesen Lokal garantiert. Dennoch gibt es kleinere Anmerkungen auf hohem Niveau: Wir hatten einen Tisch im hinteren Bereich, welcher etwas beengt war. Für uns in Ordnung, manche Gäste könnte dies jedoch abschrecken. Außerdem kostet die Flasche Wasser vorab 8€, was uns doch irritiert hatte.

Sehr zu empfehlen. Das Essen war wirklich super lecker und der Service herzlich und professionell. Das eiskalte Stiegl war wieder einmal ein Genuss!!!

Das Restaurant liegt etwas unscheinbar in den Räumen einer ehemaligen Bank. Die Begrüßung ist freundlich, das Ambiente mit der offenen Küche ist ein rustikal- moderner Stilmix. Amouse bouche und Brot liegen bereits auf dem Tisch, beides ist vielversprechend. Die Weinkarte ist umfangreich, die Menü-Karte ist relativ klein, dafür kann man wählen, ob man ein Menü oder lieber einzelne Gerichte bestellen möchte. Der Service lässt aber im Laufe des Abends mehr und mehr nach und ist sehr unaufmerksam. Man ist zwar freundlich bemüht aber nicht herzlich. Wahrscheinlich muss man Stammkunde sein, denn diese werden sehr freundlich betreut. Die Gerichte werden allesamt frisch zubereitet. Wir hatten alle das klassische Wiener Schnitzel mit lauwarmen Kartoffelsalat. Das Essen kam sehr schnell. Beides ist okay, aber leider kein Highlight. Das Schnitzel ist optisch großartig, geschmacklich aber eher flach, dem Kartoffelsalat schmeckt man die nicht frischen Kartoffeln an. Der Beilagensalat ist toll, mit frischen Blattsalaten und einen super Dressing. Das Topfenknödel-Dessert ist auch wirklich toll, viel besser als das Hauptgericht. Das Preisniveau ist angemessen, allerdings wird es beim Verlassen wieder krampfig, weil das Restaurant ja ein "System für die Garderobe" hat, das aber anscheinend bei vollem Haus nicht funktioniert und wenn gleichzeitig Gäste kommen und gehen erinnert das schon sehr an einen Loriot-Sketch. Zusammenfasst, Essen und Ambiente okay, Service leider nicht. Eigentlich Schade.
