Highly recommended! It's a bit out of the way, but definitely worth the trip. The schnitzels we had were excellent. If you're in the mood for good German food, you absolutely have to stop by. Friendly service and a great location. Prices are perfectly reasonable too. The only suggestion for improvement would be the menus. They're very poorly printed and don't do justice to the rest of the ambiance. A bit confusing as a first impression.

This place is great for bigger groups! What a hidden gem. We really enjoyed the barn style part of the restaurant in the back. They had it all decorated for Christmas. We enjoyed the fire pit and marshmallows for the kiddos as well.

We had a wonderful stay on Boxing Day in a cozy atmosphere. There were delicious vegetarian options, which are rarely offered in restaurants (especially on holidays). The portions were generous and filling. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Thank you for a lovely day.

We went there on Boxing Day and had goose. It was absolutely delicious. Nice and juicy, a large portion, and very reasonably priced. We'll definitely go again. There were lovely little huts set up outside where they also served mulled wine. A really nice experience. Very friendly and quick service.

We had lunch at the Rote Mühle country inn with our family of six on Christmas Day and felt very comfortable from the start. We sat in the rustic alpine hut, which has a truly lovely, cozy atmosphere. If you have older people with you, the benches might not be ideal for sitting for extended periods, so you might want to keep that in mind when booking. While the patio heaters provide good warmth, appropriate clothing is still recommended given the sub-zero temperatures outside – unlike the restaurant, the hut doesn't tend to get too warm. Despite the large number of guests, the service was consistently very friendly, attentive, and courteous. We were particularly impressed that we ordered à la carte and yet all six dishes were served simultaneously and, most importantly, piping hot – despite the sub-zero temperatures on their way from the kitchen to the hut. That's anything but a given. The food was absolutely delicious: the fried potatoes and green sauce were superb, and the schnitzels, in all their various styles, were beautifully tender with a thin, crispy breading – just as you'd want them. A thoroughly enjoyable visit – we'll definitely be back, and certainly not just at Christmas.

For a "country inn on the edge of the forest" in a beautiful setting with a large outdoor area, the service was exceptionally good. Always with a friendly smile and a willingness to accommodate the guests' wishes. This was true at every table, as we observed. And on top of that, the regional cuisine was very tasty. Extensive menu. Beautifully presented dishes. This is how a truly delightful dining experience is created.

We had a very good meal, and although it was quite busy, the service was prompt. Furthermore, the service was very friendly and attentive; I can highly recommend it. I personally had the venison goulash with red cabbage and dumplings and was very satisfied. I especially enjoyed the sauce. I will definitely come back, as the ambiance and surroundings are also beautiful. Keep up the good work!

The ambiance is cozy, traditional, and charming – exactly what you'd expect from a classic inn. I had the Jägerschnitzel with fried potatoes, and it was fantastic! The portion was generous, the meat was incredibly tender, and the side dishes tasted just like Grandma's. They really know how to cook properly here! The recommended Kaiserschmarren was also excellent.

A very beautiful location, rustic yet cozy, the food is delicious, and the service is excellent. In summer, it's a wonderful place for a day trip, and in winter, it's beautifully decorated with a charming alpine hut that invites you to linger. The owners and staff are always exceptionally friendly and customer-oriented. The signage leading from the B8 highway could be a bit larger. It would be a shame if such a restaurant, with its unique flair, cozy atmosphere, and warm hospitality, weren't well-frequented.

A wonderful little Christmas market around the Red Mill, with many stalls, drinks and food, pony rides and cozy Christmas music – a truly beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommended for the upcoming Advent weekends!

Eight of us came for the St. Martin's Day goose. The waiter was very attentive, always on hand, and the drinks arrived quickly and correctly. Breast or leg, red cabbage or Brussels sprouts, or both? Some had one preference, others another. What arrived were identical plates, each containing a piece of breast and a leg. Everyone had all the vegetables, even those they didn't like. The Brussels sprouts were overcooked and somewhat watery. The red cabbage had also been in the pot too long for my taste. The goose tasted good but wasn't crispy. We received extra gravy, but it wasn't anything special. We had already complained about all of this with the first plates. When the second part of our group arrived, they asked about our preferences again and then completely ignored them. The prices are typical for the Frankfurt suburbs, but that's okay if the quality and service are good. In this case, both were just okay.

My apple pie was a small, square slice. But otherwise, everything was fine. The service was very attentive and found us a table even though it was very busy again. We were only there for an hour. If you're looking for a quiet spot, this isn't the place for you. When it's full, it's quite noisy, as the restaurant is located in one room. It was okay for us, though.

No, I can't recommend this restaurant. The waiters ignored us, even though we repeatedly called for our attention. We never ordered anything. After about 45 minutes, we left, and even this wasn't noticed.

We enjoyed a really great evening at the restaurant. The food arrived promptly and was still hot. That is a definite plus. The servers were pleasant and friendly. We plan on visiting again. We can highly recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

The food was edible. But the service was abysmal. The tables were sticky with dirt, and to avoid getting my clothes dirty, I put a tattered menu underneath them. When the waitress saw this, she immediately snapped at me that it wasn't a table mat and that menus cost money. After I pointed out that the tables were sticky, she became rude and tried to convince me that they had just been repainted. Wood is my specialty... I couldn't believe how naive she made me out to be. Anyway, that was definitely the last time I go there. In terms of friendliness, the lady still has some room for improvement.

A very nice place with great service. You can sit comfortably in the beer garden or linger in the dining room. The food is good, home-style cooking, and the prices are fair. A particular highlight at Christmas time, with a small Christmas market and a large log cabin for celebrations. The location, right next to the forest with a stream and meadows, is also ideal for a stroll.

This was my third time there and I must say I was disappointed that the kitchen was unable to re-cook the undercooked trout (noticeably wobbly and bloody) after I sent it back, making it edible. The server was extremely friendly and took it back the second time after I again discovered it was undercooked and tasted musty. I was able to order another meal, which was okay. However, the disgusting taste of the half-raw trout stayed with me for a long time. It's a real shame.

We celebrated a milestone birthday yesterday at the Rote Mühle – everything was simply perfect! Very attentive and friendly staff, delicious food, and despite parallel events, no restrictions or hectic schedules. We felt very comfortable and will definitely be back. The Rote Mühle is absolutely recommended.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the meal today. I ordered linguine with chanterelle cream sauce. Given the time of year, I was naturally expecting fresh chanterelles. What I was served were enormous, completely mushy mushrooms (obviously cheap canned stuff) in a nondescript gravy. Sorry, but this could definitely be better. Charging €19.90 for this is really too much. The side salad that came with the dish unfortunately didn't improve the overall impression. It was carelessly put together in a flavorless dressing.

Unfortunately, this was the worst schnitzel of my career. And I've eaten a lot of schnitzels. The schnitzel had no flavor, was very thin, had a lot of breading, the potatoes were dripping with oil, and the salad had a pungent lemon flavor. Not recommended.

We were a group of 41 people and were there from 12-5 p.m. Everything was superbly prepared, and the server was excellent, super friendly, and accommodating. We'd be happy to go there again.

We ordered several dishes, including a schnitzel, which (unfortunately becoming increasingly rare) was freshly made and breaded (not a ready-made product that's simply thrown into the fryer). The fried potatoes could have been cooked a bit more crisply to develop a roasted flavor. The service was very good and very attentive. Our waiter noticed (without us asking) that our food was taking a long time and asked the kitchen about it. The restaurant's location is very nice; you can take a walk in the adjacent forest. It was very busy, which naturally creates a certain amount of noise. There are a few parking spaces available, but during peak times, you may have to park a bit further away. This certainly won't be our last time here 🤗

A lovely, traditional day-trip restaurant that we visited again after a long time and were truly pleasantly surprised. Despite a sunny weekend and therefore a lot of guests, we managed to get a free table in the lovely garden. The welcome was friendly, the service was full of eager staff, the order was quick, the food was delicious: a hand cheese as it should be, a good schnitzel, the salad fresh and prepared without canned goods (unfortunately, 2-3 more interesting daily specials were already sold out). Truly top-notch! If that's the norm, then 5 stars would definitely be deserved!

Hello, I ate at your restaurant for the first time yesterday based on a recommendation – and I was thrilled! The food and service were sensational, and the location is fantastic, too. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Thursday evening – the food was a disgrace.** The waitress was completely overwhelmed with the orders and could barely keep track of everything. The waiter brought the Coke, blew into the glass twice – simply disgusting – and then tried to bring it to us. After we complained, he brought us a new Coke. It seems almost impossible to find halfway decent staff. The team today was completely incompetent, and the food was terrible. The peppers with minced meat had been prepared and warmed up, but the minced meat was still cold. After 10 seconds of the waitress staring at the minced meat, either trying to understand my complaint or warming it up through eye contact, I finally said it was okay, as it would have been difficult to heat up the food. All this at prices that are certainly higher than in a simple forest pub – which would be the appropriate comparison here. Absolutely unbearable and not recommended in any way!

An inn that thrives solely on its beautiful location. The exterior furniture is long past its prime and is literally falling apart. Very unkempt. Lunchtime, 6 people at the table. The service was attentive, but the bar and kitchen staff were clearly lacking in support. The worst part was the food. I completely fail to understand how it could be praised. Green sauce with 90% mayo – guaranteed heartburn. Pre-made schnitzels dripping with fat, straight from a frozen package. That's not even chip shop quality! Overall, neither a cozy atmosphere nor tasty. Once, and definitely never again!

A nice day-trip restaurant, beautifully shady by the forest with a home-style menu. After hearing so much about the Rote Mühle, I had to form my own opinion and took advantage of the 37°C day to pay it a visit. Access is via a narrow road where you have to negotiate with oncoming traffic, but it all works out somehow. The restaurant has ample parking and a very large, covered outdoor area. Due to its close proximity to the forest, it's significantly cooler than outside, a huge plus in this weather. The menu is manageable and features seasonal dishes. In my personal opinion, the food is okay for a restaurant, but unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. The best part of my Frankfurter Schnitzel was the green sauce, which was really good. At €18, I expect restaurant quality, but that's just my personal opinion. My Coke was cool but not cold; in hot weather, I prefer it ice-cold. I was there in the early afternoon, and it was moderately busy. A large group of teenagers arrived shortly after me. Despite the presence of six waiters, I had to wait a relatively long time for my order to be taken. The menu was thrown onto my table as I walked by. The last time I experienced that was 20 years ago at Oktoberfest. But the presence of the group also made it almost as loud as at Oktoberfest. All in all, it was okay; it's definitely worth going there in hot weather or during events.

The Rote Mühle is an institution... a MUST... in the restaurant industry. The young owner is entrepreneurial... but is unfortunately hampered by the requirements and regulations common in Germany... I would love to book larger events there in the winter, too. If the decision-maker or decision-makers read this... help a perfect example of the best, consistent, and committed integration survive...

Unfortunately, I don't really understand some of the reviews. There were 10 of us there. Everyone had a different meal, and everyone was really satisfied. The service was very friendly, and the food arrived without a long wait. Overall, the value for money is excellent, and we would go back anytime. There's a playground for the kids, and the terrace is a great place to sit, even in very warm weather.

The Rote Mühle forest restaurant offers excellent, child-friendly service and a wide selection of delicious dishes. We celebrated our son's 10th birthday there with two adults and seven children. After a treasure hunt in the forest, the children returned to the restaurant and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. They even allowed us to bring our own birthday cake, for which we are especially grateful! We highly recommend it!

The atmosphere is superb, definitely worth a visit! A quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with a wonderful outdoor area for sitting and relaxing. A swing for children and dogs is also welcome. The food was excellent, and the service was fast and courteous. Many thanks to the team for their hospitality.
