Very friendly staff, the perfect place to visit.

The food was edible. But the service was abysmal. The tables were sticky with dirt, and to avoid getting my clothes dirty, I put a tattered menu underneath them. When the waitress saw this, she immediately snapped at me that it wasn't a table mat and that menus cost money. After I pointed out that the tables were sticky, she became rude and tried to convince me that they had just been repainted. Wood is my specialty... I couldn't believe how naive she made me out to be. Anyway, that was definitely the last time I go there. In terms of friendliness, the lady still has some room for improvement.

Great service, there's a playground, so you don't have to worry about kids. It's quite tasty and has a great atmosphere.

I ordered Frankfurter schnitzel, which arrived quickly. The portion was generous, and I was definitely full.

A very nice place with great service. You can sit comfortably in the beer garden or linger in the dining room. The food is good, home-style cooking, and the prices are fair. A particular highlight at Christmas time, with a small Christmas market and a large log cabin for celebrations. The location, right next to the forest with a stream and meadows, is also ideal for a stroll.

I loved sitting in the sun, having good food and drinks, and even being able to bring my golden retriever. We'll be back, definitely with a larger group.

I can't say anything about the inn itself, hence the three stars. However, the field staff are a hazard to traffic. This vehicle is parked in such a way before the curve that it's impossible to see vehicles approaching from the right when turning.

We celebrated a milestone birthday yesterday at the Rote Mühle – everything was simply perfect! Very attentive and friendly staff, delicious food, and despite parallel events, no restrictions or hectic schedules. We felt very comfortable and will definitely be back. The Rote Mühle is absolutely recommended.

This was my third time there and I must say I was disappointed that the kitchen was unable to re-cook the undercooked trout (noticeably wobbly and bloody) after I sent it back, making it edible. The server was extremely friendly and took it back the second time after I again discovered it was undercooked and tasted musty. I was able to order another meal, which was okay. However, the disgusting taste of the half-raw trout stayed with me for a long time. It's a real shame.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the meal today. I ordered linguine with chanterelle cream sauce. Given the time of year, I was naturally expecting fresh chanterelles. What I was served were enormous, completely mushy mushrooms (obviously cheap canned stuff) in a nondescript gravy. Sorry, but this could definitely be better. Charging €19.90 for this is really too much. The side salad that came with the dish unfortunately didn't improve the overall impression. It was carelessly put together in a flavorless dressing.

Unfortunately, this was the worst schnitzel of my career. And I've eaten a lot of schnitzels. The schnitzel had no flavor, was very thin, had a lot of breading, the potatoes were dripping with oil, and the salad had a pungent lemon flavor. Not recommended.

We were a group of 41 people and were there from 12-5 p.m. Everything was superbly prepared, and the server was excellent, super friendly, and accommodating. We'd be happy to go there again.

We ordered several dishes, including a schnitzel, which (unfortunately becoming increasingly rare) was freshly made and breaded (not a ready-made product that's simply thrown into the fryer). The fried potatoes could have been cooked a bit more crisply to develop a roasted flavor. The service was very good and very attentive. Our waiter noticed (without us asking) that our food was taking a long time and asked the kitchen about it. The restaurant's location is very nice; you can take a walk in the adjacent forest. It was very busy, which naturally creates a certain amount of noise. There are a few parking spaces available, but during peak times, you may have to park a bit further away. This certainly won't be our last time here 🤗

A lovely, traditional day-trip restaurant that we visited again after a long time and were truly pleasantly surprised. Despite a sunny weekend and therefore a lot of guests, we managed to get a free table in the lovely garden. The welcome was friendly, the service was full of eager staff, the order was quick, the food was delicious: a hand cheese as it should be, a good schnitzel, the salad fresh and prepared without canned goods (unfortunately, 2-3 more interesting daily specials were already sold out). Truly top-notch! If that's the norm, then 5 stars would definitely be deserved!

Hello, I ate at your restaurant for the first time yesterday based on a recommendation – and I was thrilled! The food and service were sensational, and the location is fantastic, too. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Thursday evening – the food was a disgrace.** The waitress was completely overwhelmed with the orders and could barely keep track of everything. The waiter brought the Coke, blew into the glass twice – simply disgusting – and then tried to bring it to us. After we complained, he brought us a new Coke. It seems almost impossible to find halfway decent staff. The team today was completely incompetent, and the food was terrible. The peppers with minced meat had been prepared and warmed up, but the minced meat was still cold. After 10 seconds of the waitress staring at the minced meat, either trying to understand my complaint or warming it up through eye contact, I finally said it was okay, as it would have been difficult to heat up the food. All this at prices that are certainly higher than in a simple forest pub – which would be the appropriate comparison here. Absolutely unbearable and not recommended in any way!

An inn that thrives solely on its beautiful location. The exterior furniture is long past its prime and is literally falling apart. Very unkempt. Lunchtime, 6 people at the table. The service was attentive, but the bar and kitchen staff were clearly lacking in support. The worst part was the food. I completely fail to understand how it could be praised. Green sauce with 90% mayo – guaranteed heartburn. Pre-made schnitzels dripping with fat, straight from a frozen package. That's not even chip shop quality! Overall, neither a cozy atmosphere nor tasty. Once, and definitely never again!

A nice day-trip restaurant, beautifully shady by the forest with a home-style menu. After hearing so much about the Rote Mühle, I had to form my own opinion and took advantage of the 37°C day to pay it a visit. Access is via a narrow road where you have to negotiate with oncoming traffic, but it all works out somehow. The restaurant has ample parking and a very large, covered outdoor area. Due to its close proximity to the forest, it's significantly cooler than outside, a huge plus in this weather. The menu is manageable and features seasonal dishes. In my personal opinion, the food is okay for a restaurant, but unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. The best part of my Frankfurter Schnitzel was the green sauce, which was really good. At €18, I expect restaurant quality, but that's just my personal opinion. My Coke was cool but not cold; in hot weather, I prefer it ice-cold. I was there in the early afternoon, and it was moderately busy. A large group of teenagers arrived shortly after me. Despite the presence of six waiters, I had to wait a relatively long time for my order to be taken. The menu was thrown onto my table as I walked by. The last time I experienced that was 20 years ago at Oktoberfest. But the presence of the group also made it almost as loud as at Oktoberfest. All in all, it was okay; it's definitely worth going there in hot weather or during events.

The Rote Mühle is an institution... a MUST... in the restaurant industry. The young owner is entrepreneurial... but is unfortunately hampered by the requirements and regulations common in Germany... I would love to book larger events there in the winter, too. If the decision-maker or decision-makers read this... help a perfect example of the best, consistent, and committed integration survive...

The Rote Mühle forest restaurant offers excellent, child-friendly service and a wide selection of delicious dishes. We celebrated our son's 10th birthday there with two adults and seven children. After a treasure hunt in the forest, the children returned to the restaurant and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. They even allowed us to bring our own birthday cake, for which we are especially grateful! We highly recommend it!

Unfortunately, I don't really understand some of the reviews. There were 10 of us there. Everyone had a different meal, and everyone was really satisfied. The service was very friendly, and the food arrived without a long wait. Overall, the value for money is excellent, and we would go back anytime. There's a playground for the kids, and the terrace is a great place to sit, even in very warm weather.

The atmosphere is superb, definitely worth a visit! A quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with a wonderful outdoor area for sitting and relaxing. A swing for children and dogs is also welcome. The food was excellent, and the service was fast and courteous. Many thanks to the team for their hospitality.

Beautiful old mill surrounded by nature! Small playground for kids. Only one of us (a group of 12) half-tasted the food. Potatoes of all varieties were bland and tasteless. It's certainly a nice beer garden, and the service was friendly.

There were four of us there and we sat outside since the weather permitted it. We ordered various dishes such as Handkäs (traditional cheese with music) and bread, salad, schnitzel with hunter's sauce, small Nuremberg sausages with mashed potatoes, and smoked pork with sauerkraut. The Handkäs (traditional cheese) wasn't white in the middle, but it was hard and should have been aged much longer for tenderness and flavor. The salad was okay, but it wasn't exactly a revelation. The grilled sausages, which probably came from a butcher in Oberursel, were OK, but anything but grilled sausages. The flavor was completely different, and it tasted more like salted meat than roast beef. The mashed potatoes were homemade and delicious. The schnitzel with wild mushroom cream sauce was unfortunately a complete no-no. It tasted of fat and oil, but not like schnitzel. You could definitely tell the fat and oil. The sauce was also bad. For dessert, we ordered Kaiserschmarrn and I ordered two scoops of ice cream. The Kaiserschmarrn was mediocre and didn't stand out. I got the two scoops in two bowls? Where we also got the waitress. They either didn't listen or kept interrupting us. Too bad, I'll stick to a one-time visit.

Several more minutes passed before I could give the server my order. The server brought drinks and food relatively quickly, but the napkin and cutlery were missing. They only came after I requested them. Unfortunately, the quality of the hand cheese we ordered was more on par with the sticky tabletop. The caraway was missing, the onions were only sporadically present, and the hand cheese itself had only come into contact with the marinade before serving. It was served with one and a half slices of very poorly sliced ​​bread and a small piece of butter. Bottom line: the most beautiful ambiance is useless if the service and quality of the food are poor.

We had reserved online for five people. When we got there, everything inside was reserved, and they wanted to send us outside, but the weather was bad. Mercifully, we were allowed to stay inside, but more people were supposed to arrive. By the time we were finished, no one from our reservation had arrived! The wild mushroom sauce for the schnitzel was also made entirely of mushrooms...

Unfortunately, the cake selection wasn't to our taste, but lunch was excellent. We will definitely and happily return.

Today, my children unexpectedly invited me to the Rote Mühle (Red Mill); I've known this place for decades. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The latte macchiato was cold, but without coffee, and the glass wasn't even full. The food came quickly but unfortunately wasn't that good. The meatloaf was soggy and made mostly with bread rolls, the portion of green sauce that accompanied the schnitzel was tiny, and the sausage salad was soggy. All the meals were barely warm, and the sauce we ordered never arrived...

I've known this restaurant for 50 years (with different owners). It's good with Hessian dishes. Friendly and fast service.

The location was very nice and busy. Service was friendly and quick. The veal schnitzel was good but very small. The asparagus was undercooked, and the hollandaise sauce (the most important thing, so to speak) was unfortunately a disaster.

The breading of the schnitzel was not very good this time; The breading and meat were separating from each other, which did not create a pleasant appearance. Other than that, everything was as it should be, as usual. I recommend it.
