Rote Mühle in Kelkheim (Taunus)

A perfect and very competent service.

We have always enjoyed being here. The service is nice and friendly. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. The new owner has invested significantly. That pays off. Wedding party and weekend business on the full sun terrace at the same time? Outdoor space in the countryside? Goes. Respect for that! There's something going on. The new roof is awesome. It used to be cool and humid in the valley, but now you can tolerate it for a while. The cakes and the strawberry tiramisu, which are available seasonally, are also recommended. If you're there on Sunday, you'll definitely find something sweet with your coffee. We keep our fingers crossed that business will continue to be booming. Gladly again.

Menu is not a highlight now. Choice of dishes could be better. Portions are decent, but a matter of taste.

The picture from last year has been confirmed: the staff is trying hard, but ultimately can't cope with the rush - even though it's a normal late summer Sunday around the beer garden. After waiting for three quarters of an hour, we left hungry. That's why we can't judge the food. The menu is simple, but quite expensive (potato with quark or green sauce €15; 0.4 beer €5). It's a shame, because it's actually a nice destination.

If I just want to be a little more fair, I would give 3 stars to this restaurant but I gave 4 stars because staffs are really nice, I visited here several times so far, most of the times in the weekends, so in busy times and service gets super slow in busy times and when there are many customers. In Mormal days almost everything is in order. One another problem is parking in busy times. Food quality is almost good and everything served fresh.

Nice place. Food very good. The service, on the other hand, wasn't great. Food for 4 people came at different times, one starter was completely forgotten. When I asked the waiter about it, he said that they thought the guests would want to eat the starter together with the main course (???). Yes, sure! Calling guests stupid is not the polite thing to do.

The service that day (a Tuesday) was very slow or inattentive. There was very little going on and we sat a little to the side. It took a while before we were noticed or we had to clearly draw attention to ourselves. We got the drinks (1 beer 1 cola) about 10 minutes after ordering. When eating (1 schnitzel 1 salad) the schnitzel was brought first and you had to wait for the small salad. What was noticeable was that the leaves of the lettuce were more brown than fresh. Since it wasn't my first time there and I've had much better experiences, I'll chalk it up to a bad day. Nevertheless, the attention span of the staff should be increased. I would be happy to change this report if my next visit surprises me positively. Otherwise it will probably have been the last one.

Schnitzel with bitter green sauce is absolutely disappointing. Also very slow service. For us once and never again. Unfortunately, any Frankfurt economy is better. It's a shame, because the location is actually quite nice.

The restaurant is idyllically located on the edge of the forest with a beautiful beer garden and children's playground. It was very busy and the service tried hard to keep up. Unfortunately, one meal was completely forgotten. Unfortunately, the schnitzel was as lukewarm as the white wine, the breading was soft, and the fried potatoes were mediocre. The so-called “forest mushroom cream sauce” was inedible. A cut-proof pramp that was probably slapped from a large bucket into a soup bowl with a soup ladle. The warm apple strudel for dessert was actually warm and good. Unfortunately the cappuccino was quite thin.

Very nice restaurant. The food was quite excellent. Service and ambience are typical country inn. The children's playground is nice and big for smaller children. We would love to come back.

The only positive thing here is the beer garden atmosphere outside and that children can play on the lawn. If you don't mind dirty cutlery and glasses that much, you might like it.

This was the worst meatloaf I've ever eaten. 90% rolls, 10% meat. The breading of the schnitzel that my friend ate completely fell off the meat. Once and never again. L.R.

Great ambience, great beer garden but the staff was hopelessly overwhelmed. When we asked why our beer took over an hour, they pointed out that it was very full and asked us whether we had ever worked at the bar. If you can't handle the number of guests you shouldn't accept so many guests.

What struck me unpleasantly was that the prices on the card on August 22, 24 did not match the final amount to be paid. Food is top. Service is adequate. Attention well. Many trees in the garden provide shade There are plenty of parking spaces available directly at the restaurant. Parking possible on the B8 with a walk to the restaurant, approx. 20 minutes.

Really lovely place with very friendly service and a very good menu. Delicious: curd potatoes with salad. Great selection of cakes. Huge playground there. Not just a paradise for children...

We waited over an hour for the food - then it came lukewarm with cold vegetables. In addition, the fried potatoes were too salty. Unfortunately not a visit recommendation if you plan to eat something

The place is very nice and well decorated. I can only recommend it. Eating and drinking in the middle of the forest. Very suitable for nature lovers for hiking and walks. When it rains, don't forget your boots and umbrella. 😄

Last week we reserved a table for 5-6 people for this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The table was occupied until 2:10 p.m. If a table is reserved, we assume that it is free. The food is very good, the nature is beautiful, the waiter is friendly.

Mit viel glück wurden wir sogar bedient. Nach 25 Minuten war schnell bestellt. Es gab warmen Sprudel und Bier. Reklamation erfolglos. Lauwarme Getränke sind im Sommer wohl normal. Das essen war in Ordnung.

A very dedicated waiter served excellent food. Very pleasant atmosphere, on a particularly warm summer evening much nicer, cooler, airier than in Frankfurt city center. Good value for money.

Enjoy your meal. However, with the Summer Nights Special the ratatouille was cold and the fried potatoes were lukewarm.

We have been here several times, almost always coming from Frankfurt by bike. It is a large beer garden with plenty of seats. The food is varied compared to other beer gardens and it just tastes pretty good. Two other points are important in our opinion: the staff is friendly and attentive and the prices for the food are acceptable, compared to some beer gardens in Frankfurt. You sit under the trees in good shade and can feel very comfortable. There is also a large extra area with play equipment for children to let off steam. What more could you want!

I already know the red mill from my childhood The location in the valley next to forest, meadows and Liederbach is simply special. In the middle of the countryside and great for sitting outside. You are usually not alone and the food is regional and good.

Simply great and highly recommended.

Our chairman has been coming here again and again in different ways for many years (public transport and car). Here he can switch off, let himself be pampered by nature but also the food and drinks, or even work. Be it in a restaurant or simply outdoors. From double espresso to other drinks and different dishes, there is a lot on offer here and there is usually something tasty for almost everyone. Be careful on the very narrow path (both directions) through the forest, whether by car or bike, some people drive here without any consideration. This despite the fact that many meters are not visible!!! Direction: Coming from the country road or driving in this direction. By far the biggest drawback is that there are far too few parking spaces, but that is negligible because the red mill and everything around it is worth the effort. Appeal to everyone: Please position yourself so that you can be helped in an emergency! What is very negative is that most people do whatever they want when nothing else is available. The vast majority of illegal parkers don't really care whether the others get out or not. Often not even the ambulance/emergency doctor can get through with blue lights.

Was here for a coffee and cake stop. Great location for events (there was a wedding reception on the day of your visit) and if you are traveling with children. The food you could smell smelled very appetizing (was thinking about staying until dinner). Nice service.

Very nice beer garden under the trees, in an idyllic location. Perfect to relax. The service was very busy, so it took a long time until someone came to take the order. The lady was very friendly. What I often notice is that the waitress doesn't look to see if someone has a request, they tend to walk through the guests with tunnel vision. Not just in this restaurant. The food was ok, schnitzel with fried potatoes. Fried potato tasteless, but greasy. I also mentioned that I actually know them with at least onions and bacon. However, the waitress said some people don't want that. Too bad. Then, unfortunately, they are completely sober. Unfortunately, the relaxation was somewhat lost because a television was playing football. If we had wanted that, we would have gone to a similar restaurant. All in all, a recommendation for a shady stay with a cool drink or a nice meal. There are enough parking spaces at least during the week.

Beautiful place that we were really looking forward to after not being there for a few years. Unfortunately, the disappointment was great. We had to wait forever for the food to be served only to unfortunately realize that the wait was absolutely not worth it. The pasta was overcooked and went back. Satisfactory replacement was served fairly quickly. The schnitzels are not a real highlight. As for the taste?! Apparently the spices had run out. Overall, very unsatisfactory and the visit to the restaurant is not worth repeating. What needs to be praised is the nice service staff who tried to save the situation in a really friendly and courteous manner. The young lady who served us in particular had a really nice and polite demeanor.

We were there on Sunday evening. It took a while until we were served. The table was sticky, the waitress took our order and then came around the corner, which is no longer available. The operation should already be up to date. Bad service at all… No professionals… Food was average.

Very nicely located excursion restaurant, also easy to reach by bike

We are very disappointed, schnitzel as thin as paper tasted like nothing and potatoes were burnt and chanterelles in cream sauce were swimming in fat, the food was at the table very quickly and everything was cold even though the potatoes were burnt. There were three of us and we still had four drinks. The food was carelessly prepared for €100. It was more like it was overpriced. We haven't eaten so badly in a long time. The surroundings were very beautiful. Unfortunately, the Rote Mühle cannot be recommended.

Sitting here we waited almost 20 minutes for two beers, there was an outdated menu in front of it and the table next to it was probably acquaintances who had their sour drinks within 5 minutes You could probably do better than that, right?

A very nice place. I felt like I was on vacation. The service is great. Despite a surprising massive storm, we were served outside and all guests were well looked after. I would like to express my gratitude for making this beautiful evening possible, despite the difficult conditions.

I celebrated my birthday on Saturday at the Rote Mühle with 16 people and everything went great! Service was great, food was delicious and quick, as were the drinks. Many thanks to the team for a successful day. Can only recommend the red mill for a celebration.

The food still has a lot of room for improvement. The service is sometimes chaotic, but always friendly.

We spontaneously decided to eat warm because everything looked so delicious! The salad with sheep's cheese, olives and peppers is a dream... and a huge portion! Unfortunately I didn't take any photos. My husband had the linguini with wild mushroom cream sauce, also excellent. Keep it up, you're great!

Service was excellent and speedy compared to standard German service. All of the staff were easy to speak with in my very poor German. A particular staff member appeared to be fluent in English. We had schnitzel's which were a bit tougher than we had hoped but had a great flavor. I particularly enjoyed the green sauce. Of which I have had many times before and it tasted spot on. In addition I had a cheese appetizer which was also good. Both schnitzels came with fried potatoes that were excellent. The portions were very large, infact no one finished their plate, so the value is definitely there. The ambiance is also excellent walking to and from the parking area is a delight!

The food can be improved! The fried potatoes were too black for 2 people! Unfortunately we didn't say it until afterwards. Something like this shouldn't leave the kitchen at all! There was no financial compensation or bonus for this either. The service is usually very friendly. I think the nice family is a bit overwhelmed by the rush to this idyllic place! A further expansion of the Rote Mühle is only possible if the capacity of the kitchen can be expanded and the staff can keep up! The operators should realistically assess the limits and possibilities of the Red Mill! We would like to continue to go there!

We ordered the Frankfurter Schnitzel with green sauce and the food was great. The service was very attentive and friendly. Our daughter had a lot of fun in the playground for the children. The surrounding area also invites you to take a walk. The location is priced appropriately for the region. The inn is definitely worth a visit and I would happily recommend it.

Great destination. When the weather is good you can enjoy the large terrace. There are many typical Hessian specialties to enjoy. Always worth a detour by bike. But you can also easily reach the red mill by car.

The place is beautiful, the service is very nice. On public holidays or weekends you have to be patient as it can get very crowded. A walk in the forest and then a cold drink or something to eat is perfect. In principle perfect for families, even with animals, you have to expect high expenses.

Food is ok, service takes a very long time and the atmosphere on the Mega Terrace has something of a train station forecourt.

I held a company seminar at the Rote Mühle today and was pleasantly surprised that the two owners provided complete equipment (screen, projector table and electronics). Everything was very friendly and uncomplicated. A pleasant stay. I only drank one coffee and it was very tasty :-)

Food is too expensive, green sauce with 4 half eggs and potatoes for 14.90 is not acceptable to me. We were there on Thursday and it was almost empty. Food was good, service was nice.

We were at the red mill on a Friday evening. I was very surprised that we were the only guests the whole evening (6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.). It was also cold in the restaurant. The food was very tasty and made you forget the cold a bit. 😉 I had a salad with sheep's cheese. 😋 I've never eaten sheep's cheese like this before. I can only recommend him. The service was very attentive, friendly and always available. 👍 We will come back in any case.

I liked it. The food was delicious. Price/performance perfect. However, we were there in winter and sat inside. Cozy and friendly furnishings. There is also a large terrace. Large, friendly and cozy impression. We'll be back again in the summer

We were there today because we wanted to have a nice meal with our mothers. We knew the location from our bike tours and found it very nice (one point for that). Some of the starts came before the drinks. The salt was empty, the hand cheese had not matured and there were onion pieces as big as dominoes, the asparagus soup was at most lukewarm and had no taste at all, the Nuremberg cheese was overcooked and cold, the mashed potatoes were also cold and lumpy, the first schnitzel was taken back because it was cold and... It wasn't well cooked, but it was dripping with fat and water. When I touched it up, the schnitzel was hot and crispy, but there was a hair on the plate. After I said that I assume they don't charge for the schnitzel, the cellar said yes, I can do it. I'm sorry, what?! Shouldn't that be the most normal thing ever, after these two complete catastrophes? I left empty-handed and hungry. Staff friendly but mercilessly overwhelmed. Nobody wears a hairnet in the kitchen and the kitchen is right next to the toilet. In the end, I was ashamed in front of our mothers that I had chosen this location. That's really a pity. Despite the great location, we will largely avoid the restaurant in the future.
