Rote Mühle in Kelkheim (Taunus)

Plenty of parking is available on-site, and it's very popular with families with children. The food is excellent and the value for money is also good.

The food was okay. The salad dressing was a bit too sweet. It's good that there are vegetarian options. The service was nice, but a bit overwhelmed.

There were four of us there and we sat outside since the weather permitted it. We ordered various dishes such as Handkäs (traditional cheese with music) and bread, salad, schnitzel with hunter's sauce, small Nuremberg sausages with mashed potatoes, and smoked pork with sauerkraut. The Handkäs (traditional cheese) wasn't white in the middle, but it was hard and should have been aged much longer for tenderness and flavor. The salad was okay, but it wasn't exactly a revelation. The grilled sausages, which probably came from a butcher in Oberursel, were OK, but anything but grilled sausages. The flavor was completely different, and it tasted more like salted meat than roast beef. The mashed potatoes were homemade and delicious. The schnitzel with wild mushroom cream sauce was unfortunately a complete no-no. It tasted of fat and oil, but not like schnitzel. You could definitely tell the fat and oil. The sauce was also bad. For dessert, we ordered Kaiserschmarrn and I ordered two scoops of ice cream. The Kaiserschmarrn was mediocre and didn't stand out. I got the two scoops in two bowls? Where we also got the waitress. They either didn't listen or kept interrupting us. Too bad, I'll stick to a one-time visit.

The food was tasty, but the schnitzel was a bit too greasy. The service was very friendly and quick. On a Saturday evening, it was very loud and difficult to hear each other at the table.

If the food, cleanliness, service, and smell were like the ambiance, I would have given it 5 stars in all categories. But unfortunately, that's not the case. Upon entering, you're greeted by the odors of fried fish, old frying oil, and stale air. While the restaurant is nicely decorated, the noise is unbearable. So I chose an outside table under a heater. Unfortunately, this one was, but the tabletop was so sticky that even wiping it didn't significantly improve the situation. This was very unpleasant. After a good 10 minutes had passed, the server brought the menu, which, in turn, was in no way inferior to the sticky table. My choice was made quickly, but the service wasn't quite as fast. Several more minutes passed before I could give the server my order. The server brought drinks and food relatively quickly, but the napkin and cutlery were missing. They only came after I requested them. Unfortunately, the quality of the hand cheese we ordered was more on par with the sticky tabletop. The caraway was missing, the onions were only sporadically present, and the hand cheese itself had only come into contact with the marinade before serving. It was served with one and a half slices of very poorly sliced ​​bread and a small piece of butter. Bottom line: the most beautiful ambiance is useless if the service and quality of the food are poor.

We had reserved online for five people. When we got there, everything inside was reserved, and they wanted to send us outside, but the weather was bad. Mercifully, we were allowed to stay inside, but more people were supposed to arrive. By the time we were finished, no one from our reservation had arrived! The wild mushroom sauce for the schnitzel was also made entirely of mushrooms...

A very nice, secluded restaurant with a large outdoor area. The food selection and quality of the spruces are excellent. Friendly and attentive staff and good service. A wonderful destination. Unfortunately, the cake selection wasn't to our taste, but lunch was excellent. We will definitely and happily return.

Today, my children unexpectedly invited me to the Rote Mühle (Red Mill); I've known this place for decades. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The latte macchiato was cold, but without coffee, and the glass wasn't even full. The food came quickly but unfortunately wasn't that good. The meatloaf was soggy and made mostly with bread rolls, the portion of green sauce that accompanied the schnitzel was tiny, and the sausage salad was soggy. All the meals were barely warm, and the sauce we ordered never arrived...

I've known this restaurant for 50 years (with different owners). It's good with Hessian dishes. Friendly and fast service.

The location was very nice and busy. Service was friendly and quick. The veal schnitzel was good but very small. The asparagus was undercooked, and the hollandaise sauce (the most important thing, so to speak) was unfortunately a disaster.

I went there with a few friends during my holidays a few days ago. The atmosphere was calm and beautiful. We each had a different Schnitzel and apfelwein. The food was amazing. The place is a bit far so I recommend going with a car.

The food was edible. But the service/operation is underground. The tables are sticky with dirt, and so as not to dirty my clothes I put a tattered menu under them. When the waitress saw this, she immediately snapped at me that this was not a document and that the menus cost money. After I pointed out that the tables were sticky, she got mushy and tried to convince me that they had just been repainted. Wood is my specialty... I couldn't believe how naive she portrayed me to be. Anyway, that was definitely the last time I was there. When it comes to friendliness, the lady still has some room for improvement.

Real country inn with small rivers nearby and river meadows. Ideal for walking with or without a dog. Or even cycling. Around 20 parking spaces in the immediate vicinity. A nice weekend, of course, mostly occupied.

Food is nothing special. Price/performance ratio is not right, many convenience products. Tandoori salad with “seasonal” salads: head and coleslaw plus a tomato quarter in an oily dressing. Small portions, sticky tables, dirty table runners. At 9 p.m. it was no longer possible to order coffee: the machine had already been cleaned.

I wanted to treat myself to something at the crepes stand today, but unfortunately the employee preferred to make a phone call. He didn't even look at me, let alone give a hint that he had time for me in a moment. I then went “calorie free”.

We made a spontaneous decision between the years, first to eat and then to the lovely little Christmas market there. Despite the many guests, they tried to find a table for us (2 adults and 2 children), the food was good, the children's offer with a carousel and clown was great and the area invites you to take a walk. All the employees were really super friendly, a great team!!! We'd love to come back!

I'm really sorry to say this, but I haven't eaten so badly in a very long time. The map is kept simple, which is basically not a problem. But you shouldn't have any expectations when it comes to taste. Everything on our plates (4 people), which in terms of cooking goes beyond fries and fried schnitzel, is unfortunately at the lowest level in terms of taste in my opinion - and that's put quite kindly (mushroom sauce and braised onions smelled and tasted like burnt plastic) . It's a shame, this evening was unfortunately a bitter disappointment for us and I can't recommend it in any way.

The restaurant itself is good. Today we were with the extended family in the new hut above the restaurant. It was the ultimate nightmare. The table was reserved for 12 p.m.! The hut was full and overheated. We got our food served after two hours with the staff being totally overwhelmed. All guests waited at least two hours for their food! How can a restaurant accept so many reservations when it is almost impossible to manage, hard to understand. That was the last time...

Family dinner on Christmas Day, everything was perfect

Super nice restaurant with great service! We had a Christmas party after our 10 year graduation. The organization with the restaurant was friendly and uncomplicated. Boxes, microphone for playing music and karaoke, fire + stick bread, our own compartment in the cozy wooden alpine hut and eating a la carte, everything was no problem. Everyone is very excited! I'm only reviewing the Christmas market on the forecourt here. Open late at least on Saturday... Hardly anyone in the huts had a plan of what to do. The waffles and crepes were mini. Instant dough at a high price, it took forever.... The super sweet mulled wine probably from the tetra pack for €4.50 for 0.2l. There was no change at first. When I was going out later, his cell phone rang... and I was left standing there. The fire pit was poorly implemented, onto which a huge block of wood was thrown, which only sizzled and smoked a lot. I think it was all well-intentioned, but you should have a little knowledge or skills when you offer something like that... an imposition on the paying guests! The alpine hut looked pretty nicely decorated, there were cookies baking for the children, which seemed to work well. At least they didn't get smoke poisoning in there...

I was there with a friend in the afternoon. We liked it very much. I will make reservations again soon. It is ideal to stop off during the dog walks, as dogs are also welcome indoors.

Wir haben uns spontan für die Rote Mühle entschieden - ohne Reservierung - und obwohl es super voll war, hat die Bedienung uns noch einen Platz frei gemacht ! Super nett, obwohl es scheinbar schon mit den Weihnachtfeiern los geht... Wir konnten gleich bestellen und das Essen kam super schnell und hat auch sehr gut geschmeckt. (Ich kann die Ente empfehlen) Kurz gesagt: sehr schöne Location, leckeres Essen und wirklich super nette Bedienung. Wir kommen wieder.

We had our graduation party here on Saturday with around 50 people. There was a nice mulled wine stand in front of the restaurant. The food was great and the whole crowd was looked after quickly and well. It was a wonderful evening with very nice service and a nice, cozy atmosphere. Lots of parking spaces! Thank you!

We have always enjoyed being here. The service is nice and friendly. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. The new owner has invested significantly. That pays off. Wedding party and weekend business on the full sun terrace at the same time? Outdoor space in the countryside? Goes. Respect for that! There's something going on. The new roof is awesome. It used to be cool and humid in the valley, but now you can tolerate it for a while. The cakes and the strawberry tiramisu, which are available seasonally, are also recommended. If you're there on Sunday, you'll definitely find something sweet with your coffee. We keep our fingers crossed that business will continue to be booming. Gladly again.

The picture from last year has been confirmed: the staff is trying hard, but ultimately can't cope with the rush - even though it's a normal late summer Sunday around the beer garden. After waiting for three quarters of an hour, we left hungry. That's why we can't judge the food. The menu is simple, but quite expensive (potato with quark or green sauce €15; 0.4 beer €5). It's a shame, because it's actually a nice destination.

If I just want to be a little more fair, I would give 3 stars to this restaurant but I gave 4 stars because staffs are really nice, I visited here several times so far, most of the times in the weekends, so in busy times and service gets super slow in busy times and when there are many customers. In Mormal days almost everything is in order. One another problem is parking in busy times. Food quality is almost good and everything served fresh.

Nice place. Food very good. The service, on the other hand, wasn't great. Food for 4 people came at different times, one starter was completely forgotten. When I asked the waiter about it, he said that they thought the guests would want to eat the starter together with the main course (???). Yes, sure! Calling guests stupid is not the polite thing to do.

The service that day (a Tuesday) was very slow or inattentive. There was very little going on and we sat a little to the side. It took a while before we were noticed or we had to clearly draw attention to ourselves. We got the drinks (1 beer 1 cola) about 10 minutes after ordering. When eating (1 schnitzel 1 salad) the schnitzel was brought first and you had to wait for the small salad. What was noticeable was that the leaves of the lettuce were more brown than fresh. Since it wasn't my first time there and I've had much better experiences, I'll chalk it up to a bad day. Nevertheless, the attention span of the staff should be increased. I would be happy to change this report if my next visit surprises me positively. Otherwise it will probably have been the last one.

The restaurant is idyllically located on the edge of the forest with a beautiful beer garden and children's playground. It was very busy and the service tried hard to keep up. Unfortunately, one meal was completely forgotten. Unfortunately, the schnitzel was as lukewarm as the white wine, the breading was soft, and the fried potatoes were mediocre. The so-called “forest mushroom cream sauce” was inedible. A cut-proof pramp that was probably slapped from a large bucket into a soup bowl with a soup ladle. The warm apple strudel for dessert was actually warm and good. Unfortunately the cappuccino was quite thin.

The only positive thing here is the beer garden atmosphere outside and that children can play on the lawn. If you don't mind dirty cutlery and glasses that much, you might like it.
