In my opinion, Restaurant Portofino is a real gem in Rüdesheim. Great service and exceptionally delicious pizza are good reasons to visit. Plus, the prices are very fair. I'll definitely be back.

Absolutely not recommended!!! On Saturday, November 29, 2025, around 2 p.m., I entered the restaurant intending to reserve a table for six people. However, since I urgently needed to use the restroom after a long journey, I was refused! The head waiter, stating that it was only for our guests, exercised his right to refuse service and asked me to leave. I am 67 years old and have never experienced anything like this in Germany! We then spent the approximately €250 at the Jacobusklause – highly recommended. Happy Advent season! Stephan Schmidt

The service was good and the waiter was friendly. I had the medium sized Vulcano pizza which was very good, my wife had spaghetti, which she also enjoyed. The prices were very reasonable.

Popped in while visiting the Christmas market at Rudesheim and fancied something a bit more substantial than a bratwurst or potato pancake. I had a simple pomodoro spaghetti while my husband had a smaller (not really small!) pizza vulcano. Both were well prepared and tasty - quite happy to visit again next year when we're in Rudesheim.

We ate there today after visiting the Christmas market. We waited a short while before being greeted by the waiter, who then showed us to our tables. The first drinks arrived quite quickly. We then ordered our food, which tasted good. The portion size was okay. Three stars because: One star deducted because the toilet seat in the men's restroom is completely loose and slides around. Half a star deducted because we ordered another drink with our meal, but it was forgotten and only brought after we ordered it again. Half a star deducted for the side salad, which was rather uninspired: Two slices of cucumber, two halved cherry tomatoes, some iceberg lettuce, a five-leaf field salad, a few strips of onion, and a dollop of yogurt dressing.

Good, fast, and friendly service. Lots of selection and excellent quality for reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

The pizza is really delicious. But what really stands out is the service from the waiters. We chatted with one of them for ages and even got a free espresso at the end. The people who work there are incredibly friendly. 🙌

Absolutely fantastic! The food tastes amazing and the service is friendly and welcoming. Vegan options are also available: I recommend the bruschetta pizza bread.

We ate there with six people. The service was very pleasant, the food was delicious, and it was ready quickly. Even Wi-Fi was quickly available. But dear people, please take another look at the hygiene and cleanliness of your restaurant. It really wasn't very clean, especially the restrooms. I'd still be happy to come back.

There are tastier ways to do things

Courteous, good service. Attractively decorated. Plenty of food and very tasty.

Four stars are a good indication. The rating is a bit high, as the effort is evident, but it's hard not to comment on the obvious flaws. Fruit flies greet guests upon entry. My main criticism, however, is the pasta. It's the kind of dish you could easily make at home to a edible standard, even if you're a lousy cook. And such a homemade dish will probably be better seasoned than here. Salt and pepper are provided on the table, but that's not the point of restaurants where you have to make your own seasonings from scratch. It's simply quite tasty, edible pasta, and a generous selection of toppings is a plus, but you probably won't be blown away. It's food meant to be filling (I'd rate the portions as monstrous). So if you're looking for a simple, uninspired meal, you've come to the right place. I'd even say I enjoyed it, but it's simply not the kind of food I visit restaurants for. My next complaint concerns the sauce, and it's a bit more serious. The pasta is swimming in cream! This, combined with the lack of seasoning, creates a peculiar combination. After leaving, I felt like I'd drank sour cream from a carton, not eaten cream sauce. This isn't an Italian restaurant, just a loose interpretation of the idea of ​​Mediterranean cuisine. Looking for Italy in Rüdesheim? Avoid this place. Simply hungry? Feel free to drop in. The stars are earned by the friendly waiter, the toilet paper, the quick service, the low prices, and the generous portions.

Oct. 2025: Three of us were at the restaurant at 6:30 p.m. We received a very friendly welcome, and our table request was honored. We had a delicious large appetizer plate, followed by various pasta dishes and a schnitzel with fries. For dessert, we had tiramisu. Everything was delicious and in generous portions. The service was very friendly and attentive. The only criticism was the dirty tablecloth. Otherwise, we were very satisfied and would gladly return. Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, I can't give a better rating. Perhaps the chef was sick when we were there. At least the service was friendly. Now for the "food": I ordered 8 dishes – I never want to eat any of them again! 4 pizzas: it couldn't be worse, frozen is often even better, the dough was a disaster (tough and dense), the 4 pasta dishes were absolutely terrible: carbonara with cream and strips of cooked ham...that says it all...tortellini was a convenience product, again with strips of cooked ham...lasagna overloaded with MSG and sauce (from a can?)....no one asked for espresso or grappa after the meal. There was no soap in the men's restroom! UNBELIEVABLE! The doors look battered, like those in a school. There were also dozens of fruit flies swarming around – never seen so many in a restaurant! Please work on this!

Best bruschetta ever!!!!! We've never had such fine, absolutely delicious bruschetta, even in Italy! The servers were very friendly and accommodating, and the location and the weather :-) were perfect. My only recommendation: clean the tablecloth better or replace it; the table smelled very musty after wiping.

We ate there with 35 people, and despite the large number of people, the service was very fast. The food was delicious, with generous portions. We would be happy to come back.

This isn't Italian pasta. I ordered carbonara, but it came with spaghetti tossed in cream. There was no egg yolk or cheese to be found. Aside from the friendly service, this is definitely not an Italian restaurant.

It's better to skip this place and enjoy some truly good food instead. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the waiter in an extremely unfriendly manner – as if we had shown up at his home unannounced. The tablecloths were very dirty, and the room seemed anything but clean. The pizza? Simply inedible: a burnt base that could hardly be called a pizza. All in all – absolutely disappointing and far from what one would expect.

We had the antipasti misto a la Portifino appetizer for two for €30. I've never had such bad Italian food. It tasted like opened jars/packages from Aldi—not fresh, not Italian-style, a shame! Dried-out mozzarella... and bad melon... The service was okay, though.

Absolutely avoid. It's hard to imagine a worse meal. We had salad and antipasti, and almost everything was canned. The mushrooms were sloppy, the sauces disgusting, even the sauce for the vitello tonnato was revolting. Salad with ready-made sauce. THAT has absolutely nothing to do with Italian cuisine; we were appalled. The staff were anything but Italian, too. I felt so nauseous afterward, the only thing that saved me was a good aquavit, somewhere else.

We had a delicious pizza and a delicious tomato salad at Portofino! It was absolutely delicious! The service was very attentive and left nothing to be desired! The prices are fantastic! While we were there, we also experienced the hustle and bustle of the wine festival! Highly recommended! 👍👌

Portofino is a wonderful restaurant! I had the Panzerotti, and it was absolutely delicious. The cocktail I ordered was just as delightful. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. My family and I truly enjoyed our time there, and we left with great memories. Highly recommended!

Good food. Friendly service. We ate there twice in two weeks. The pizza was well-filled with fresh ingredients. The kids' pizza was well-filled and large enough for children.

Really bad pizza, like it was frozen. I sent it back and only had to pay 50%. It's nice to sit and have a drink, but I really wouldn't eat there again. Plus, the employees were sleeping on the benches!

We were looking for an affordable but good pizzeria – and we absolutely found it here! The pizzas were not only generously topped, but also truly delicious, with fresh ingredients and each pizza prepared with love. The interaction with our children was especially great. The server was friendly, had friendly remarks, and really made an effort to put a smile on the little ones' faces – which makes the visit especially enjoyable for families. The value for money is excellent and the atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed. When we're back in town, we'll definitely be happy to come back here for a meal. The restaurant is located in a cozy alley near the Rhine. The food is delicious and not stingy :) Among the staff, we particularly highlight Deni, who served us excellently and recommended the right dishes for our children. We made a small mistake with the order, but it was corrected within a few minutes, and the incorrect order was given to a homeless person, free of charge, of course – very commendable! A liter bottle of wine costs 44.50 I thought I wasn't hearing right

We went here twice because we enjoyed the food so much the first time and appreciated the friendly service. The food is relatively inexpensive, the food tastes great (especially the pizza base and pizza bread), and the service was very attentive, courteous, and friendly. All in all – an unreserved recommendation!

But I say, is it so hard to cook pasta properly?! We're not talking about astrophysics: water, salt, pasta, timer! And instead, no — that stuff arrives on the table soft, overcooked, without any dignity. Once pasta goes past the cooking point, it's no longer pasta: it's glue, it's an insult to Italian cuisine. And don't tell me that 'this is how tourists like it'! But tourists also have the right to eat something decent! If someone wants authentic taste, give them pasta al dente, not that stuff drowned in oil, enclosed in plastic bags and reheated like leftovers from the cafeteria. Pasta is culture, it's identity — it's not an oil sponge! A little respect, please.

Waited from 9:30 PM to 10:00 PM and no service came. Completely unacceptable, not recommended.

It's really bad. We can't sit with ice cream because it's from a neighboring shop, but we still want to eat and drink. Yes, I know the rules are the rules, but sometimes exceptions are possible for 9 people. Never again, and have fun.

A completely commercial restaurant! The waiters' behavior can ruin your mood. The food is subpar. I will never recommend this place.

We had a very good Margherita pizza with real mozzarella. The pizza was ready within 10 minutes. It was a Sunday evening, however, and the restaurant and downtown Rüdesheim weren't busy. The only drawback: card payments only accepted amounts over €15 or €20 (unfortunately, I can't remember the exact amount). We were still able to pay the €9 for the Margherita pizza with an EC card, as I had explicitly asked for it on the phone beforehand and received confirmation.

Despite our repeated email requests, this restaurant does not respond to our reservation requests and turns a deaf ear. This restaurateur seems to not want to work or is probably rolling in gold. I would like to remind you that it is up to the restaurateur to be available to his customers and not the opposite. I therefore strongly advise you to move on and instead favor an Italian restaurant such as "La Romantica" (ranked n°1). We are therefore giving a one-star rating and that is still a very high rating!

Unfortunately, yesterday's lunch in this restaurant left an extremely unpleasant impression. My 14 year old daughter ordered a portion of bolognese and ate it alone. The pasta was delicious, but the portion was too big for a child. My husband and I were cycling along the nearby banks of the Rhine. Then we came to pick up our daughter. And I, the child's mother, sat down at the table with her. The plate of food was half full. And the daughter suggested trying what she ordered. Our conversation was rudely interrupted by the waiter (a bald, middle-aged man). He demanded that I order something for myself or leave the restaurant. The waiter made it clear that it was not a snack bar at the train station, but a restaurant. The waiter was aggressive, raised his voice and was downright rude. Besides my spoiled mood, I have another question. Does this “specialist” understand the loyalty, customer focus and tolerance that comes with the status of the restaurant? And how can management allow such a bully to work and thereby jeopardize the company's image?

Disastrous service – absolutely not family friendly. We were there with our baby and the stroller. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to sit outside because it's supposedly not allowed to put two tables for two together - even though there were three of us. We were also refused entry inside because we had the stroller with us. This is an absolute no-go for families with babies. The unfriendly and inflexible nature of the staff had a very negative impact on the whole experience. It's a shame - treating guests like this, especially children, is simply disappointing.

Very good pizza, cool atmosphere and excellent service

Food was very tasty, but service didn't work well, we sat at the table for ages with empty glasses and wanted to pay (mind you, we were the only people in the outside area and the waitress was constantly bustling around us). This was only possible after we went inside.

I ordered local coffee and Riesling. The old man in the store was very friendly, especially the process of making the coffee. The pizza and pasta were delicious. It was not in a busy tourist area and there were not so many people. It was a wonderful dining experience.

We are on a Viking River cruise in Germany and we got tired of eating sausage and schnitzel. The food was awesome! I got a limoncello spritz and a pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni is some of the best I have ever tasted. My husband got the lasagna and it was fantastic. The service was wonderful and the restaurant is very nice with indoor and outdoor seating.

My wife and I split a large Caprese pizza which was wonderful and just the right size for two. Service was excellent and timely. Finished with the lemon sorbet in a frozen hollowed out lemon with cream and chocolate sauce.

We were there today The restaurant was barely heated The waiter was extremely nice and accommodating I had spaghetti parma with peas and tomatoes. There were 4 peas, 1 champion sliced. I couldn't detect any ham. Unfortunately there was hardly any spice, it was bland unfortunately. For 14€ simply zero value for money Sorry

We’re in the area mid-November so not everything was open. We walked in with no reservation, and the host was nice enough to be able to fit us in despite it being busy. Huge menu, with every combination of toppings for pasta and pizza. We got the Quattro fromaggi rigatoni and gnocchi pasta and it was very good.

Food was not bad, however, the place was full of flies and mosquitoes and they were in hundreds flying around the food and the drinks. When we spoke to the stuff, they said this normal.

The restaurant is really in need of renovation and doesn't seem really clean. There was an infestation of fruit flies sitting all over the walls, pictures, etc. This would supposedly be the case everywhere in Rüdesheim, because of the feather white 🤷‍♀️ it really irritated us and we found it very unappetizing. What really annoyed me was that the prices posted online didn't match the actual prices. I think spaghetti frutti di mare for €18.50 is sporty...and I come from the Frankfurt suburbs, where things aren't exactly cheap either. There is a lot of room for improvement in this restaurant. However, the service was very friendly.

Very nice Italian restaurant. The waitresses were very polite and accommodating. Eating so-so... I like pizza where the dough is made in-house. Pizza dough doesn't look like it was made in-house. Baked sheep cheese too. This is served on a salad bouquet, there is clearly no salad! Bread and pizza bread very tasty. The salads with the delicious dressing and turkey or mushrooms are also very good. There are certainly homemade dishes, but we didn't try them. In any case, we'll always be happy to come back

Tablecloths very dirty, food normal, nothing special, but expensive. We used to be regulars. Quality has deteriorated significantly. The tablecloths at several other tables were also very dirty and were only changed after request. Pizza was ok, but well, one was burnt. None of them were particularly tasty. Bottle. The restaurant is in a very nice part of the city. Although it has Italian specifics, the food has little to do with Italian cuisine. The pizza was the most disappointing. However, the German schnitzel with mushroom sauce was a much better choice.

The staffs are friendly and welcoming, but the pepperonis on the pizza are way too salty I have to say. The lasagna was ok, standard but not surprising. But the pizza’s were disappointing. And soft drinks cost more than €5 per glass was also a little bit shocking.

NEVER AGAIN: Our nightmare experience in Portofino On behalf of our travel group, I would like to describe a very disappointing experience that we had in this pizzeria on July 5th, 2024. While checking out, a waiter tipped over a half-full glass of wine, which spilled across the table and onto my colleague's jacket and dog. Instead of immediately taking care of the mishap, the waiter initially walked away to continue charging our group. At our request, he just gave us a handful of napkins to clean ourselves and continued collecting. Another waiter idly watched what was happening from the gallery and obviously found the situation, especially the dog with the red wine stains, amusing. Nothing further happened. We as customers had to take care of the waiter's mishap ourselves. We didn't want to leave it like that and spoke to the person responsible. We wanted to resolve the situation, especially the issue of cleaning costs. We would also have liked to receive an apology and for the waiter to finally do his job and wipe the table. The manager of the restaurant was reportedly unable to speak. However, the waiter acted like he didn't understand what we wanted and laughed at us when we raised the issue. He reluctantly apologized and offered us a stain remover (reminder: for the red wine stains on a branded hiking jacket). In addition, the waiter did not offer to replace the wine my colleague had already paid for. After considerable pressure on our part and long discussions, we finally received 20 euros for the cleaning and a bottle of wine as compensation. However, the politeness of the service quickly disappeared. At the end the waiter took the liberty of insulting and insulting us by saying that we were being cheeky and should piss ourselves off. This incident was not only annoying, but also very morally stressful. Our legitimate complaints were not taken seriously and we as customers ended up being treated disrespectfully. For a city that is open to tourists, treating customers like this is simply unacceptable. We are from the region and will certainly never visit or recommend this restaurant again. DEFINITELY.
