Very good selection and quick preparation. Everything is fresh, including the selection of cakes. Rustic but very cozy atmosphere. Can be recommended.

If you feel like unfriendly staff who really ruin your mood, you've come to the right place. The charming greeting alone with a roll of the eyes, which could hardly have shown more of the subterranean motivation, was a good start. Only the loud groan of annoyance could top this. In order to extend our stay there, the food was delivered separately. First, one half of the table eats while the second half gets to watch. It also seems to be a peculiarity that the individual dishes are not delivered completely. It has to be said that this not only means that individual parts of the dish were brought to the table half an hour late, but that dips, for example, were also completely missing. In order to spread the bad mood even further on the guests, the additional orders for drinks were only brought after repeated requests. These were probably calculated twice. In order to keep the mystery alive, no invoice was handed out. Neither an apology nor even a friendly look are standard here. The missing tip is boldly pointed out and explicitly requested. One should not forget that saying goodbye with the words: “Please never come back” while complaining about us to the other guests rounded off the visit. A sincere compliment goes to the kitchen. Everyone enjoyed the food. If the service wasn't so exceptionally bad, the visit would be a delight to the taste buds!

The service is unfortunately very bad. The waiters are inexperienced, confused, and in a restaurant serving German food they speak little German. The food takes a long time to arrive, everything is very slow. The quality of the food also leaves much to be desired. Overall, it’s a nice place, you can order beer, but I don’t really recommend it. Apparently the location near the metro station and the large flow of people play a role... It's a pity...

Unfortunately it was a total failure, first we waited a long time for the cellar, then the gentleman only took half of the order, then a long wait Half an hour, the shop was empty. Whether he has forgotten us. A soup as a starter and two currywurst with fries. Then at some point everything came together. With the saying he didn't know that the soup was a starter... I always eat Soup together with main course. We let it go back and left hungry

Very nice restaurant and good food

Had two meals at this restaurant with my partner whilst in Berlin. One at a busy dinner time and the other during the quieter lunch hours and the resturant excelled on both occasions. A great atmosphere combined with stellar service and delicious food.

If you are looking for an easy option to eat typical German food, just go. The place and service are great, and the food is very tasty as well. Good wines and beers too!

Rude staff to say the least. They forced us to tip and started gesticulating and making figures in front of other people. The slightly dark waiter with short hair is rude and doesn't know how to do his job. I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST IT

We ask for garnished sauerkraut and we end up with an unfortunate, very basic sausage. Very nice German style decor unfortunately guitarist who plays the sting. And the pompom to go to the toilet you have to pay. To flee.

A lively, busy atmospheric bar in under Hakersche Markt station. The rumble of trains accompanies hearty, meaty German dishes and steins of beer. The Christmas menu is exceptional.

I recently visited restaurant 1840 and had a genuinely great time. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and warm. They made great recommendations, and our drinks arrived quickly despite it being a busy night. Speaking of drinks, the selection was impressive – a great variety of beers on tap, creative cocktails, and even some unique options that added a special touch. The food was also excellent. We tried a few dishes, and each one was flavorful and well-presented. It’s clear that they put a lot of care into their menu. And for the quality, the prices were very reasonable, which added to the overall satisfaction of our visit. Overall, I highly recommend Restaurant 1840 for a relaxed evening out. Had two whiskey cocktails. Some of the worst I have ever tried.

Well furnished place and typical German atmosphere. We were served immediately and had a pleasant meal until the waiter insistently asked us to pay to let us out (the place was empty because it was 5pm). Furthermore, the waiter, with dubious English, tried to force us to leave a tip for the service, the bar and the kitchen (Olè).

We were there twice and were served twice by Henry, a very charming gentleman, very very friendly and helpful!! I can highly recommend this store! Really delicious food and the best service I've ever experienced!! Even without a reservation, we received phenomenal service twice!

A rustic restaurant in the S-Bahn arches at Hackescher Markt. The service was excellent and professional. The food came quickly and everyone was full. The atmosphere is rustic and a visit here is highly recommended if you are visiting Berlin.

Nice and fast service as well as delicious food, all in all still recommended. The apple strudel was ok with room for improvement. The veal liver Berlin style was good and also recommended.

Despite the high frequency of tourists, we received friendly, quick and courteous service. The ambience is great, like all restaurants in S-Bahn trains. The food (fish, meat, liver, vegetables) was very good.

Inviting atmosphere, staff attentive, service sufficient and menu does not correspond to what is on offer, asking beforehand what else is available is helpful so as not to be disappointed.

We reserved a table for 5 people on Monday - a birthday dinner out. We arrived on time, and were met by a host. The host led us to a table in the far end corner of the restaurant and left us with menus. We waited for 20 mins - no one came to take drinks or food. We asked the host to send a waiter our way, he said its busy but he would. No one came for 15 mins so we asked again - the host said that the outside area of the restaurant is busy so that if we were in a hurry, we should just leave, in a very confrontational manner. The host in fact came up to the face of the member of our group that was speaking as though wanting to fight. Its extremely disappointing to receive this kind of service on our first day in Berlin and in a restaurant that has a good reputation. The group felt uncomfortable. We will not be recommending this restaurant to any of our friends.

Definitely worth a visit if you're walking or shopping nearby. We first visited at 1840 in July and the service was spot on 👌🏻 It certainly didn't disappoint during our 2nd visit either and Fafi made us feel most welcome with his friendliness and hospitality, we'll be back again soon 🫶🏻

Compared to the one next door, the cocktail was cheap and quite large, very tasty. Cozy, would love to come back again. There are sweet potato fries!

We were a large party visiting R1840. Cant fault it, service was great, food was nice and hearty. They really catered well for one of the party who was vegan. Would recommend if you're looking for a traditional German restaurant in Berlin.

I had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant. The dish was tasty, crunchy, big enough to eat two people. The service was quick and efficient, a very friendly waiter served us. The external environment is an added charm.

I’ve never been to a place where I need to wait for this long. Me and my family arrived at 7 pm, and we waited for our food for more than an hour, and what I’m really mad about is they serve for others first who actually came here later than us. They only serve the food for the ones who complains about it. And what’s hilarious, is they do this to all the guest, one of a lovely old couple waited almost for two hours, even though, they talked to the waiter for three times, they still did not get the food. It’s ridiculous!!

The ambiance is really great. It is just under the train station and the brick work in the restaurant is so beautiful. The service people are very friendly. When it comes to the food, it is not very special. Not special in two senses; it is German food at the end of the day (quite standard dishes with quite standard ingredients) and it is mediocrly cooked (there are much better German restaurants).

We were very enthusiastic about the food. Everyone was very nice and we were allowed to choose a nice table. Unfortunately, it depends a bit on food and fat.

We arrived at 7pm and only got food at 9pm. Also waited a long time for drinks which we only got half an hour after ordering 🥴 The food was fine except for one who got a burger that was half cold. We also had one who didn't get anything at all even though it was ordered. They had gone out for chanterelles that were on the salmon. Could have asked if it was something else instead of first and saying it when everyone else was getting their food. We were a party of 13 people. Can't recommend the place 😕

Food was amazing but, when we went to check out we had to wait 45 minutes for the check and when we checked out the waiter stood next to us (cornered me) and said “no tip?”. As far as I’m concerned you don’t have to tip in Europe. I may be wrong but, I believe since were American he assumed we would tip and made us extremely uncomfortable.

Wir betraten am 26. September 2024 um zehn Minuten vor halb acht Uhr abends das Lokal und fragten einen Kellner nach einem Tisch drinnen für zwei Personen. Der Kellner brachte uns im Laufschritt zu einem Tisch, auf die er auch gleich eine Speisekarte legte und verschwand. Wir bemerkten sofort, dass es zu der geöffneten Tür in der Nähe ziemlich stark und kühl hereinzog, so dass die Kerze auf unserem Tisch kurz vor dem Erlöschen war. Vom Bedienungspersonal kam niemand vorbei, um wenigstens eine Bestellung für Getränke aufzunehmen, und das, obwohl an den Nachbartischen serviert wurde. Nach zwanzig Minuten des Wartens in der Zugluft entschieden wir, das Lokal unverrichteter Dinge zu verlassen und gingen zum Spanier nebenan, wo wir freundlich und aufmerksam bedient wurden. Das Restaurant 1840 werden wir aber nie wieder betreten.

Great atmosphere, full menu, distant service. Enjoy a rustic-modern dining spot under a very old S-Bahn station. The rumbles of the trains above are not loud but do add to the experience. The menu is full, perhaps too much so, but there are meals for most tastes. The Schweinemedaillons (pork medallions) dish was great, but the meat was overcooked. There are plenty of beers and drinks to choose from. The service is friendly but distant.

Just one adjective: shameful. (the tables service) Actually there is one main problem: the waiters they don't have the European restaurant culture. I don't add anything else.

Scandalous service. The drinks arrived after 30 minutes, by special request. The main dishes arrived at 40 minutes, and after we said that there were also soups, the soups arrived 5 minutes later. We pointed out that the order might not be right, but the server explained that we didn't say that we wanted to start with the soup, someone would ask for it with the main course. One of the main dishes was missed, we got it at 75 minutes. The tables are approx. 10-15% were occupied, they were not very overloaded. Shame on what the staff allowed themselves!

Horrible service. We received the drinks after 30 minutes, upon repeated request. After 40 minutes we received the main dishes, and after we mentioned the soups, 5 minutes later we received the soups as well. We said that the sequence is maybe not the best but the waiter said that we didn't mention atbthe order that we want to begin with the soup. One of the main dishes was forgotten, we received that after 75 minutes. No apologies at all. Only 10 to 15 percent of the tables were occupied, so the load on the personal was minimal. Unbelievably bad experience!

The Hakesche Markt is a great place and you almost stumble into the beer garden of the Restoration 1840. I was here with friends on a warm Friday afternoon. There is classic Berlin cuisine here, I ate excellent Königsberger Klopse and drank delicious draft Pils. The interior is inviting and very cozy. The toilets were very clean. I would return to the Restauration 1840 at the next opportunity. Marco Thiel

We picked this place because we wanted traditional German food and we liked the vibe around the general area. However, it was impossible to order and there seems to be long wait times before staff come over to table. The waitress first came over around 20 minutes after we'd initially sat down and asked if I was ready to order, at which point my partner had gone to the toilet so I was left to order by myself. Having waited for so long I decided to just go for it and would attempt to order on both of our behalf, having confirmed 'yes I'm ready to order'. however as I was flicking through to the drinks list (to double check a pronunciation of something), the waitress became impatient and decided for herself that I wasn't ready to order and therefore left the table before I had a chance to order anything. Partner then got back from the toilet and we waited for around another 30 minutes at which point I had to use the bathroom. On my way back to the table, my partner said that the waitress had been back and asked 'ready now?' (apparently quite sternly, although I wasn't there to confirm if that's true) and he'd asked for 5 minutes and stated that I was just in the toilet and would be back shortly. The waitress then left again. At this point we decided it wasn't worth the hassle and got up and left. It's a shame as this was our last evening in Berlin and we'd been looking forward to a nice meal. Would not recommend.
