Food was very tasty, nice and cute restaurant. It was just very warm.

If the cuisine and setting are correct. The service and servers are terrible. We made the effort to speak German, but this earned us some ridicule. The first ones might seem friendly. But the repetition was overdone. In addition, the waiter spoke to us systematically in German, even when we did not understand. The dishes are much more expensive than advertised on Google. Nothing below 20€ and 3/4 are above 30€ and if you ask to change an ingredient, you will be asked for a supplement. We were 2 families: 4 adults and 4 children, by simply taking one dish each we got it for €300. And to top it off, when it came time to pay, we asked if the bill could be split in two. To maintain the continuity of the detestable service, the waiter firmly refused. Even when he insisted, he remained categorical. “That’s not possible.” We do not recommend this establishment!

My personal opinion: The schnitzels were very tough and completely overpriced. The potato salad, however, was very tasty. The spaetzle were cooked and then fried again - I assume warmed up in the pan, because that's exactly how they tasted. I don't want to say anything against the drink prices - it's okay for Berlin Mitte. Wheat beer was served in normal beer glasses and not in wheat glasses. There were no salt and pepper shakers at the table. You don't get a proper invoice, just an "information print" which suggests... well. The schnitzels were listed on the menu as €26 - but on the "information print" they were listed as over €30 (which I unfortunately noticed too late as we had to move on in a hurry). A servant sat down at the guest tables outside and smoked, which I also found to be quite rude and his clothes didn't look like a well-kept atmosphere either. For such prices you can simply expect more. The service wasn't particularly friendly, but okay.

They have lots of german wine. 👍 Informal, good athmosphere. 👍 We had lamb, which was absolutely dissapointing. We asked for bread - they could not deliver. The food was not worth eating. But we did as we were hungry. We don’t visit this place again.

Very nice shop with its own charm... On an evening when it was really busy, the waitress still kept a smile on her face and was able to serve all the guests appropriately. There's little to say about the food: the short menu guarantees really good dishes

Yes,, .. great traditional place.. good wines, good beers. Menu with southern German dishes with that certain something different. E.g. duck breast in chanterelle risotto with figs (!). Very nice composition. Unfortunately it failed because it wasn't fried hot enough, no crust, but almost uncut cartilage. The game was dry the time before. So from my point of view, an intervention in the kitchen in terms of care would be good. Still nice place.

Grocery in Mitte is a very cool little restaurant with very high quality classic German food. The selection of German and Austrian wines and beer from small German private breweries is very good. The service is super friendly and the atmosphere in an old grocery store is very good. Will be my new favorite restaurant in Berlin...

Cozy, both food and the cold beers were good

We were the only guests in the restaurant in the afternoon and were seated right next to the counter. This made us feel very observed, as someone was often standing within a 3 meter radius of us. Otherwise the staff was very nice and friendly. We had the Wiener Schnitzel and the Käsespätzle. The food was very tasty, just the price was too expensive.

We found the restaurant by chance a few years ago and have been regulars there ever since when we are in Berlin. This time we tested the latest creations. Char on dark risotto with chicory and dryage duroc rack with octopus and samphire/tomato salad and fried potatoes. It was simply overwhelming again and can only be recommended. Always happy when we are in Berlin.

Delicious. Käsespätzle out of this world, and Bavarian roast pork absolutely delicious. Bert nice place to have dinner on a late summer evening.

Nein, das war nix. Ein gutes Schnitzel, dazu ein in Soße ertränkter Kartoffel-Gurkensalat. Bei der Bestellung: statt des Kartoffelsalates Pommes oder kartoffelähnliches? Nein, nicht möglich, weil die den einzelnen Gerichten vorbehalten sind und die Menge für eine weitere Portion nicht reicht. Die Ochsenbäckchen gut. Der Schweinebraten echtes Mittelmaß. Die Dunkelbiersoße hat ihren Namen nicht verdient (eine Brühe), die Semmelknödel zu fest und der Schweinebraten geht weicher und geschmacklich besser. Getrennt zahlen am Tisch? Nicht möglich. Die Qualität hält den Preisen nicht stand. Schade.

Difficult to post a photo, because we were almost in the dark. The staff at the restaurant are very kind, speak English and are also friendly. Good food, with a meat dish you can dine thanks also to the side dish. The prices are higher than in similar places, but the quality of the food seemed high. The only negative note is the light. The tables outside have no lighting (there is only a fake candle which makes a scene, but absolutely does not shed any light). Despite having chosen the "most illuminated" table (the only light comes from the dim and distant public lighting) we had to use the lights of our cell phones to be able to read the menus and eat. PS The other tables were less illuminated, because they were placed under large parasols that were open even at night, which prevented the lighting from reaching the table.

We saw the owner mocking clients and being extremely impolite to both guests and staff. If you want to see for yourself, just look at the owners reaction on any negative google reviews. If you don’t wanna risk your evening getting spoiled by such negative vibes, maybe look for another place.

I visited this restaurant in the boutique area of Mitte in Berlin both yesterday and today, and I must say the experience was disappointing. Yesterday, the management and friendliness of the employee were very pleasant; a very kind red-haired girl managed everything alone with courtesy, despite there being no table service. Today, however, we encountered the owner, an absolutely arrogant, unpleasant person with a challenging look as if to say, "if you don't like it, leave". A seventy-year-old man with white hair and a goatee, his behavior was utterly inappropriate for a restaurateur. Today, the full staff was present, micromanaged by the boss. They are famous for their wiener schnitzel, but if you want it, you have to pay dearly! €31 for a wiener schnitzel cannot even be justified by the note on the first page of the menu, which apologizes for the price increase due to the VAT inclusion of 19%, (and not 50%…). Among other things, the waiter warned us that there were dangerous glass shards under our table but didn't even think of picking them up! This isn't the first time we've visited this place, as we often come to Berlin, but paying €31 for a wiener is daylight robbery. Many restaurants, for less money, don't serve you a wiener with breading that falls off the meat and is tough and dry. Remember: choosing restaurants with a good quality-price ratio means supporting capable restaurateurs. Exorbitant prices, poor service, and the owner's arrogance should not be accepted! What a shame this change of direction!

drama, pseudo owner in my opinion he didn't like the fact that I was talking on the phone in a language other than German, that I was disturbing other guests, there were European championships, lots of people on the street very loud everywhere and he complained that only I could be heard (we were sitting on the street) I don't recommend

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Lebensmittel in Mitte. My friend and I were dining outside, and we were the only customers at the time. While we were eating, the owner walked by and made a mocking noise, imitating someone eating with their mouth open. This was clearly directed at us and felt incredibly disrespectful. When I mentioned this to the staff before leaving, they seemed uncomfortable, and the owner couldn't even look me in the eye. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional. It was one of the worst dining experiences I've had, and I cannot recommend this place at all!

Worst place I have been in 10 years. The owner made fun of my friend for the way he was chewing. He tried to confront him and the owner was turning is back at him. The food was not good and the waitresses seemed terrified of the owner. I am surprise it has been open for a while, hope it closes soon.

As long-time customers, we are thinking about a strange visit to this restaurant this evening: the menu hasn't changed for years, which doesn't have to be a problem. But: the food is becoming more and more mediocre and also presented carelessly (without attractive garnishes). Relative to the price, it leaves a lot to be desired. However, the appearance of the (presumed) owner towards guests was really strange when he accused them of smoking hash in an authoritarian and extremely unfriendly manner. You can point out your house rules, but you don't have to reprimand your guests in a loud voice in front of everyone present. We also had to involuntarily listen to him rudely pointing out to the (very friendly) service staff at the neighboring “staff break table” that guests don’t have to choose their own seats. Apparently the guests have to be good here so that the landlord has a good time. We would say a clear case of service reversal: Here the landlord is (still) king.

Went with my wife and son , first no babyseats , we ordered food with 2 waitresses and reminded them twice , only to have them cancel the main dish i was waiting for 1hr and tell me that i wasn’t charged for it , i came with my money, i wasn’t begging for food so i don’t care that i didn’t pay , i paid in waiting time and we already ordered a huge order , owner was stalking a waitress as her shadow , asked the waiter for a plate to put food on , had to remind him after 7min , then they came to check on our cancelled dish ( by them ) and act surprised If you sit on a big table as 2 people they will come to sit you up saying that the check isn’t fat enough to sit there I paid : 78 euro , won’t say bad on food , it was good but everything around it isn’t worth it What an awful horrible place, i don’t usually write reviews good nor bad , but trust me this is a very bad place! You didn’t pay for it , you didn’t pay for it , really ? Did you people want me to pay for what i ordered and didn’t get or what 😂😂😂😂, if you read other reviews you will find that this is a common thing in that unpleasant place

A favorite must-go in Berlin of mine since the old Bread & Butter days. Great lunch or dinner. Nice staff, which is a rarity in grumpy Berlin.

Amazing food. The quality and the presentation of the meat was really really good. The flavours were really good too. The waitress serving us was super helpful and helped making the right choice.

When it came it was very oxidized and clearly old . We sent it back but the waitress came and said it can’t be old because we only opened it 5 days ago !!!!! 🤣 When we asked them to open a new bottle ( they do sell it by the glass ) she said “ Oh no we can’t do that , it goes off too fast “ 🤣🤣🙄 Afterwards, having waited 20 mins for our dessert and already received the spoon and fork , we were suddenly told that the kitchen was closed and we would not get dessert !!! … Really ????? What a sad end to what could have been a lovely evening ! 😱

The wiener schnitzel is perfect and inspiring. great service. Very rustic on the outside on the benches, more dignified on the tables with seating, inside there are narrow tables. toilet - well there is still room for improvement Overall, a great place to enjoy Wiener Schnitzel.

This place is lovely! You go to the bar to order and they only take cash (hence losing a star), but the food was good, the portions generous and the staff were helpful. We had the asparagus but they had plenty of other traditional German food on the menu

I am extremely surprised by such positive reviews. I actually went there because of all the positive reviews. I am extremely disaapointed. I have been there today. The quality of food, speed of serving, taste, etc was all at best mediocre. I swear there was literally no salt in the food whatsoever. They served the steak without asking how cooked I want it, the personnel are not warm and even do not seem to enjoy their job. BUT the most important thing is it is EXTREMELY overpriced. Seriously, I am fine paying 150 euro for 3 people but this food, no way! I still could not believe why there are so many people sitting in there. Oh, they brought a different sauce and when confronted to change, it was as if we made a mistake!

Loved my experience here! Really love the outdoor seating and the look of the place. Found it to be on the pricier side but all the food looked amazing. Loved the schnitzel and although the breading separated from the meat very easily, it was so light, tasted great and didn’t seem too oily either!

Although I can't rate the food or the ambience, I would still like to share my negative experience. There are no public sanitary facilities in the area, which is why my friend politely asked in the restaurant if she could go to the toilet. Even when she tried to pay a fee, she was turned away on the grounds that they were customer toilets. She then wanted to order some water so she could go to the toilet. This was also rejected because you have to sit at a table to use the toilet in this restaurant. The waitress said there were no free seats at the moment, even though the bar stools at the counter were empty and some of the tables inside were empty. Domestic law is all well and good, but in my opinion that is almost inhumane.

On a balmy 26-degree spring day in Berlin, I had the pleasure of dining at Lebensmitte in Mitte. The outdoor seating area exuded a vibrant atmosphere, perfectly complementing the delightful culinary experience. A Weiner Schnitzel and tender OX Cheek was a culinary delight, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to ingredients and execution. For dessert, the Kaiserschmarrn was a revelation - a harmonious blend of sweet, salty, and sour flavors, impeccably balanced. Throughout the meal, the staff demonstrated attentiveness while maintaining a discreet presence, enhancing the overall dining experience.

6 venner besøgte “Lebensmittel”. Vi var særdeles tilfredse. Indretning uhøjtidelig, vi prøvede hvide og grønne asparges, ko, gris og lam. Alt var vel tilberedt. Betjeningen omsorgsfuld, og musikkken — 1. klasses blues —- passede fint dertil. Ikke “haute cuisine”, ikke damaskduge. Men godt for os.

Unfortunately the argument regarding hygiene was very poor...!!!! We wanted to visit the empty restaurant with a rather small dog, but unfortunately we were denied...!!!!!! It's really a shame....!!!!!

A surprisingly upscale restaurant tucked between a few fast food joints. They have a huge wine selection and smooth jazz playing, so you know it's fancy. The service is really great though you may need to flag them down every so often because they like to leave you alone for the most part. The dishes, while pricey, are worth it in my opinion. Yes, the schnitzel is like €32, but it's veal and a huge portion (and it's delicious!). There are also more cost-friendly options like the Käsespätzle, which was one of the best I've ever had. Also, order the Kaiserschmarrn (which you'll definitely want) ahead of time as they make it fresh and it takes likes 20m! The vibe inside is relaxing yet vibrant and they have outdoor seating which I'm excited about when it gets warmer.

It is a "self-service" location; You have to go to the register with the drinks you want and order the food, all at the same time. The quality of the food is good, recommending the schnitzel and the spätzle. You can only pay with cash, so keep that in mind.

Great place for lunch! While the food is nice, the real highlights of this place are the wine selection and the atmosphere.

Last evening we saw the owner/manager yell at our waitress (who was doing a great job), making her cry. This repulsive behaviour made us and other customers feel extremely uncomfortable. We won’t be visiting again because of this. I hope the owner corrects his behaviour - no one deserves to be spoken to like that, whether they made a mistake or not

Cozy restaurant, the staff was nice too. The jus with the veal was outstanding, the rest was fine. Unfortunately, neither the schnitzel nor the potato/cucumber salad were salted or seasoned. The veal itself was a little overcooked. The wines are poured straight away without you having the chance to try them, which is a bit of a shame given the (good) selection and the prices. Overall, we were hoping for a little more, but maybe we'll give it a second chance. ps my (fair) review was reported by the owner, why?

The schnitzel is the best one i’ve ever had! I regret not knowing of this place sooner. Sitting outside with a cold beer after lunch has to be my favorite activity on a hot sommer afternoon. Great service and variety of limos and beers. Will definitely come back <3

We really liked both the environment and the typical food. A semi self service, you set the table yourself and take the drinks, but the food is brought to the table. You pay in advance and only in cash. Furthermore, since they don't serve sweets at lunch, they kindly recommended the nearby shop that sells unique and delicious cookies. Highly recommended!

I guess they consider themselves very progressive because of the “No laptops, no AfD voters” sign they have at the door, but they turned me and my partner away because we had a baby on a stroller with us. It was 17:30, the place was totally empty save for three people sitting in a corner. I asked the waitress why, she said they are not equipped for strollers. I asked if they would turn away someone on a wheelchair, too - the waitress sneered at me and answered “but there is nobody on a wheelchair, is there?”. When I asked again, she said yes, we would turn them away. Cool! REGARDING THE OWNER'S RESPONSE: Cite Shakespeare all you like (although you may wanna check how it's actually spelled), but when you walk one step into a restaurant and are immediately met with such a rude attitude, that goes under "Ambiente" alright, my friend. And I'm not the first review that gives you a one-star rating on that, I'm afraid. As for your waitress's story, I don't see many nuances to be found. But I see how deftly you skated over her remark that a person in a wheelchair would have been turned away, too – prima to both! Finally, we didn't have a Doppelkinderwagen, whatever that is, just a normal stroller. But the two waitresses wouldn't know, because they stopped us before we could even take it in and didn't bother to ask questions. They just told us that for the baby to come in, the stroller had to stay out. Then the rest as I reported it in the review. Lord, what fools these mortals be!

We were there on Saturday evening with a total of 7 hungry mouths and were totally happy with the decision to eat here. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We felt totally comfortable and the food deserves to be called a dream. A successful evening!

Top in all respects! What is striking is the clear selection of perfectly coordinated traditional dishes with a fantastic tasty icing on the cake: 'Unfortunately, mashed potatoes are only available with truffle oil!' The staff does not lack humor and quick wit. Gladly again!

Very disappointing unfortunately. Probably this time of the year, after the holiday rush it was just an unlucky night. It was very quiet, early evening. Maybe 3 other tables occupied. The food seemed to be prepared without any care or love. The meat was overcooked and the dish was luke warm at the most. My companion's dish was barely warm, too. Unfortunately we weren't checked upon after we had gotten our food. It took quite a while until I caught someone's attention and by that time I had reluctantly eaten half of my plate. The service was very friendly and super attentive at first and they were also trying to accommodate us when I voiced my concern. The chef came out to talk to us and half heartedly apologized yet he tried to correct me and we were offered desert. A minute later the waitress showed up and offered to take my dish off the bill. I was a bit surprised but thought, ok, fair. The desert was a little burnt and nothing to write home about but I appreciated the gesture. When I received the bill I noticed my dish hadn't been taken off so I tried to clarify the situation. I was being told that I can't have both, a complementary desert or the food off the bill. I tried to tell them that this is what I was told and therefore I am surprised. I tried to communicate that there should've been clarity about this. I hadn't asked for the dish to be taken off and I didn't expect a dessert. I meant to leave constructive criticism. It was very unfortunate that we hadn't gotten attention after we got our meal or I would have voiced my concern right away. The chef came out again to tell me that the dish was cooked properly while he didn't want to hear my critique when I tried to explain my opinion again and he responded in a rather condescending way. All this time I tried to be nice and respectful. It's totally understandable that some nights are just off. The wait staff tried to handle my complaint in a friendly and respectful way. I did not appreciate the way the chef talked to me. I have a lot of respect for kitchen staff and wait staff since I worked in the industry for 30 years myself. Yet I've never witnessed staff talking down to a customer and trying to correct them. Mistakes can be made and after the Christmas holidays F&B staff is usually pretty worn out. But unfortunately it's part of the business that customers aren't always happy. Besides, there was a lack of communication and the whole experience would've only been half as bad if there had been clarity about what was being offered to us. "I thought you knew you could only chose a complimentary desert or your dish off the bill", I was told. "There is nothing we can do now" were the final words. I payed the bill and left a tip. It wasn't about the money. I was prepared to spend more. But when you pay a premium compared to many other places who offer a similar cuisine then one could expect a higher standard and conduct. I was really looking forward to have dinner there. I'd been thinking to go there for the last year and a half. I had witnessed the beautifully presented plates while passing by there in the summertime. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be for me. For the future, though, I recommend, that when the owner isn't there to look after the customers when a complaint arises, to have ONE person to handle the responsibility and leave them in charge. There is a reason why there is a front of the house and a back of the house. Have one person in the front be responsible of the operation when management is taking a night off. I had three different people talk to me and that was part of the problem. There wasn't sufficient communication between them and ultimately to me. I also know a lot of Chefs. I've seen too much. Had there been one person to accommodate me then I wouldn't have been offered two different things that in the end weren't adhered to. Just a thought.

It is a really good place to try local food. They offer a lunch menu during the week. You have to pay with cash but I guess that's not a big issue. The only problem is that the price for the lunch menu is higher than in other places.

The best German Food experience you'll have in berlin. Their standard dishes are excellent, and they have a variety of changing special dishes, including game, bison, and much more. They also do a very fair lunch. You can also buy lots of premium deli style meats, wines and charcuterie.

People like this place, but the food is inconsistent. Sauerbraten was tough (how is that even possible?) Rotkohl was cold, maybe from waiting on a cold plate for 20 minutes. Dumplings tasted like sand. All this for 29€. We let them know but nothing was done. (The tiny portion of Kaiserschmarren, however, was excellent). Try literally any other German restaurant for better food.

Ein schöner, feiner kleiner Laden. Super Essen, tolle Weine, sehr schöne Atmosphäre. Preislich etwas gehoben aber okay.

Cosy and delicious. A young crowd and great atmosphere. The service was prompt and kind and I loved the Käsespätzle. This is a gem of a restaurant in a commercial area with a lot of chain restaurants. Definitely worth hunting it out.

Personal war gestern Abend total überfordert, Getränke vergessen, Besteck nicht eingedeckt, Essen für 7 Personen kam nicht gleichzeitig - Käsespätzle (viel zu fettig) waren kalt, als das letzte Schnitzel 13 min später kam und dergleichen mehr. Als Entschuldigung bot die Servicedame einen Kaiserschmarren an, der dann aber ebenfalls vergessen wurde 😂 und schlussendlich zwar kam, aber wirklich kurz bevor wir gehen wollten. Dem Fass den Boden hat allerdings der Inhaber ausgeschlagen, indem er uns den Laptop am Tisch verboten hat mit Verweis auf ein kleineres Minischild am Eingang…. nun ja, sein Lokal, seine Regeln, aber im Anschluss seine Servicekraft vor versammelter Gästeschar am Tresen 5 min rund zu machen ist unprofessional, peinlich, eklig und dermaßen zum fremdschämen, dass wir nicht noch mal kommen.

I was asked to put my laptop away because the chef doesn't like laptops. OK, I would ask the chef to learn to cook. Food was below average, overpriced. Not much of an atmosphere, beer selection was minimal - pils or lager. Definitely don't recommend.

My favorite Schnitzel place in Mitte. I am dragging every visitor there …

Although food was good, the owner was not kind at all. We could see he was also not treating his staff with respect, very condescending. He was overall very rude. We ordered one schnitzel to share between 2 people because it’s quite big and we both weren’t too hungry, the boss looked at us like that is not allowed. At the end of the meal we were charged extra because we shared a meal! Never have I seen this happen before, very petty. Thank you to the rest of the staff

Optisch ein wirklich schönes Restaurant. Das Essen ist eher durchschnittlich, die Spätzle für meinen Geschmack zu fettig. Der Service war bemüht, jedoch unaufmerksam und mitunter latent patzig. Unmöglich finde ich hingegen, dass uns das zum Wein angebotene Leitungswasser (!) in Rechnung (die mehrere Getränke sowie Haupt- und Nachspeisen umfasste) gestellt wurde. Leitungswasser zu verkaufen ist das Gegenteil von aufmerksamer Gastfreundschaft. Dies ohne vorherigen Vermerk zu tun und dabei möglicherweise zu hoffen, dass es dem Gast nicht auffällt, ist umso unangenehmer.

My partner and I tried Lebensmittel in Mitte on our last night in Berlin. Unlike some of the other reviews, we found the staff to be very helpful ... fitting us in despite not having a reservation, suggesting lovely wines, etc. The food is honest and tasty. Very much enjoyed the experience and wish we had another night available.

Gorgeous wee venue for traditional cuisine. Lacking some dynamism in the food but all round good experience. Service A*

Loved it, such a nice place for supper. Food is superb and the wines are excellent. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again.

Laden is ganz süß, Karte is übersichtlich, Personal is freundlich und essen schmeckt vernünftig.

Sehr gutes Essen auch wenn sich nicht alle Gerichte als Hauptspeise eignen.

The duck is over cooked but the other meals are good. Sadly at 30€ you expect all meals to be good… also a good meal is great but the portion are not enough

Nice down to earth restaurant. Simple small menu very reasonable priced. Order at the bar. Get your beer out of the fridge and before you know it the tasty food arrives.
