Restaurant & Weinhaus Stachel in Würzburg

First of all, a great restaurant with a very nice ambiance. Unfortunately, we had bad luck all around yesterday. Of the four meals, three were a disappointment. We had three "Spitzen-Pfälzer" (sirloin steaks), and the loin was extremely tough, overcooked, and dry on all plates because it was pre-cooked and then briefly pan-fried again to heat it up. As a result, it was completely dry... After a complaint, four loins were returned, but the pan-fried loins remained with the guest. After about seven minutes, three more loins were served instead of four, and only one small loin was perfect, while the others were raw in the middle... After another complaint, the fourth loin arrived, and we had already finished our meal, and it was also raw in the middle... Sorry, that's unacceptable. Any housewife could do better, and we were very disappointed with the food. And consider the high price range! The restaurant manager tried hard and brought dessert, but we had to pay the full price for all four meals. In a restaurant like Stachel, I expect at least a discount or another invitation to convince you that you can do better!

Excellent service (5⭐️) and exceptionally generous portions! The menu is clearly structured and offers a diverse selection, including plenty for vegans and vegetarians. I particularly liked the cozy, rustic interior, which immediately creates a welcoming atmosphere. The quality of the food was consistently very good, even if the dumplings didn't quite suit my taste. Overall, though, it was a thoroughly positive experience that I would happily recommend!

First of all, I highly recommend everyone to reserve a table. The small effort is worth it, though. From the welcome to the dessert, you'll be pampered. The small menu offers more than enough local dishes, and the daily specials offer even more variety. Everything was perfect, from the starter soup to the main course and dessert, which was also a "little" highlight. I wish every good restaurant had a "mini portion of dessert with espresso" in case you're out of things to eat. It was, of course, significantly smaller than the regular portion, but just perfect when you're already full. For us, the best restaurant in Würzburg

How beautiful it is here! Good food, beautifully presented, served by a nimble waitress who doesn't forget that she's serving the customer. A wine list featuring excellent Franconian wines (and where you'll even receive such spontaneous praise from the waiter for your own choice that it's not fake). No, it's a delight to go here and dine. A cheese platter, whose cheeses aren't freshly cold from the fridge, with a fine dessert wine (Wygwam!) rounds off the visit. It's est est!

A particularly traditional restaurant in a central yet quiet location in downtown Würzburg with a wonderful courtyard. After a disappointing experience the previous evening (despite an outdoor reservation, they only served indoors), the following evening's outdoor ambiance made up for it. Without a reservation, we were still lucky enough to get a table after a bit of a wait. The very attentive service offered us a complimentary sparkling wine while we waited. The selection of dishes was very good, regional, fresh, and of impeccable quality. A very harmonious and extensive wine selection rounded out the offerings. We were very satisfied with our visit. Reservations are highly recommended and important to note: all guests are either indoors or outdoors. Be sure to take this into account when making a reservation and check with the restaurant regarding fluctuating weather, and call the restaurant to be on the safe side.

One of the best restaurants I went to in Germany! Fine and delicate cuisine, great wines, and lovely terrace in the courtyard. I highly recommend the trout!

Always book your table online well in advance via Open Table; it's quick and easy. Small, cozy restaurant. Beautiful, cool courtyard, neat, tables neatly set, very clean restrooms, friendly, polite staff who do everything they can to make you feel welcome. Quality of meat products: very good. Wine: ++

Very poor service from our female waitress. Had to pay 5 euros extra to get potatoes for the tartare instead of bread because of gluten. A tartare for 32+5 euros is a rip-off, especially when they lie in the menu that it is hand-cut. They must have run it with a hand blender or a blender, because it is a puree. And who would even think of serving sambal olek with a steak tartare and writing in the menu that the tartare sauce is homemade. We also had the schnitzel and it was absolutely no better here than anywhere else where it costs 20 euros instead of 32. My best tip is to go somewhere else where the price in relation to the ingredients and preparation is more reasonable.

The food was truly delicious, but unfortunately, the service was extremely poor. We arrived five minutes before our reservation, but our table wasn't available yet, and we were sent back out onto the street (it was pouring with rain). When we returned five minutes later, wet, our table was free, but incompletely set. No glasses, no cutlery, which the waiter didn't notice. It's also difficult to make yourself noticed when people are stubbornly looking straight ahead or at the floor. We ended up fetching glasses and cutlery from the empty table next to us. Unfortunately, throughout the entire evening, reordered drinks were repeatedly forgotten or incorrect ones brought. The main course was served while we were still eating the appetizer and then simply placed on the table with it. Both plates were then cleared away 20 minutes after we had finished our meals. The ambiance in the dining room was okay, but unfortunately, we couldn't sit in the courtyard due to the weather. I wouldn't come back.

The place is very cozy and has a lot of wine options. I ordered a hand cut beef tartar with home made tartar sauce for 31 euro. However, it was nothing more then fine minced meat and sambal olek. In Sweden this would be a 9 euro dish. When I asked the waiter about what was on the plate, she lied directly to my face. I have eaten over 100 beef tartar, so I know. So utterly disappointed by this place. Choose something else when in wurzburg.

We had ordered the menu of our choice and also indicated a food intolerance. Accordingly, we were completely clueless about what to expect. It was: a quaint spot in a niche, a great meal, with everything catered to the intolerance, good wine, and, last but not least, very attentive service, who clearly enjoyed not revealing what we would be eating too early. We had a truly lovely evening at the restaurant. Especially in summer, the courtyard is a lovely place to sit, almost reminiscent of an Italian vacation. The food was delicious and reasonably priced for the upscale setting. There's also a fantastic wine selection.

Very delicious food and a quaint restaurant decor. Unfortunately, the service could be improved; if you don't order a more expensive wine, you feel more or less ignored. The selection of non-alcoholic drinks is also very standard, which isn't necessary these days.

The ambiance needs no further words. Located in the back courtyard, it exudes Italian charm. The service is very courteous and attentive. You get what you pay for. The food: I was initially skeptical because of the slightly (not excessively) higher prices. But my skepticism quickly vanished after the first bites! Every euro was well spent! Great. Keep it up!

We had a lovely evening! Of course, you come here for the ambiance and the wine, but the service was also truly outstanding: friendly and accommodating, yet very natural and unpretentious. Great! The wine lived up to its reputation. The food was okay, could have been better, but that's simply not why you come here. The Stachel restaurant is on the higher end of the price range, but the bottom line is, it's worth it. Important: You absolutely have to make a reservation for the evening, even during the week, otherwise you'll have no chance. We managed to get a table for three when we called at lunchtime. However, the place was fully booked and had to turn away several guests who hadn't reserved.

Most disappointing meal in Franconia. Ordered the special wedding veal, which was overcooked, dry, and barely lukewarm. Was able to substitute a potato dumpling for the noodles, which I appreciated. Do try the gray burgundy. Due to rain, I arrived a bit early for my reserved table and even tho they were not busy at that time hostess was a bit prickly. Leaving I asked for a taxi. Didn't come. Went back in, asked for one again which arrived. Their system of having multiple servers taking order delivering food etc not good. Courtyard for outside dining looks phenomenal.

The food was good. Rustic and fresh. We had the menu of the day, with white asparagus - really delicious. Service was a bit hectic and cafeteria-like.

If you're looking for typical fare, this is the place for you. A small, fine menu, but the prices are indeed high.

A cozy restaurant with friendly, attentive staff. The food is good and plentiful. Prices are on the upscale side. Children up to 12 years old have a special menu with reasonable prices.

If you're looking for something special, Stachel is the place to be! A small but refined menu, an extensive wine list, and outstanding service. Germany's oldest wine house is still tailored to today's guests' needs, not the other way around. Of course, that comes at a price.

Eigentlich alles in Ordnung. Aber sehr geschäftsmäßig, nichts besonderes weder bezüglich Bediening, Ambiente oder Kulinarik. Da waren unsere Erwartungen wohl zu hoch. Da haben wir schon bessere Locations erlebt.

Very nice restaurant, great food, very, very good service

The Spike restaurant really has charm with its historic ambience and cozy courtyard. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. I particularly liked the regional offerings - the Franconian specialties were freshly prepared and tasted convincing. My personal highlight was the Schäufele (not in my photo), nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The wine selection also goes perfectly with the food (try Riesling! ♥️🍷). A harmonious place for a relaxed evening with good food.

Very cozy restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. The service is very good - the employees are knowledgeable, especially when it comes to the topic of allergens. Unfortunately, all sauces contain celery - a clear no-go for an upscale restaurant. A good sauce does not require any flavor enhancers, even if they are natural. The rump steak was ok...but unfortunately only medium rare...the chef should know that. All in all ok, but doesn't live up to the reputation of the location

Wonderful restaurant and wine house in the old town of Würzburg. The name refers to the medieval striking weapon Morgenstern, whose head was armed with spikes.

Very delicious!! We had two pancakes, a Wiener, crème brulee, and lots of espressos. It was really well made! The service was friendly and quick. Quaint atmosphere, casual, and pleasant. We'd love to come back!

Basically a good restaurant, but also very expensive! Franconian cuisine with main courses costing more than €30 is more likely to be used to milk tourists and business people. You hardly see any locals here. Culinary gentrification at its best! So we won't be coming back.

The service at Sting is very good. We spontaneously walked to the restaurant in the evening and, despite many reservations, we still got a table for 3 that the staff prepared especially for us. The food was very, very tasty and prepared with love. There was a large selection of good quality wines. The staff was very friendly and always open to a short conversation. We can definitely recommend the restaurant.

My partner and I went to this restaurant by chance, we were walking and we found its façade and atmosphere interesting. We didn't have a reservation but they treated us very attentively and we were able to try their dishes and their wine of the month. I would recommend it for a dinner or lunch. It is very cozy and elegant atmosphere. Their food is first class and their wines are very tasty.

Highly recommended, especially suitable for celiac disease! There is a separate menu where all gluten-free options are included. Top! The food, for me the sauerbraten, was very tasty and plentiful! Extra sauce wasn't an issue either!

Absolutely delicious food. The wine, the schnitzel and kaiserschmarrn all tasted top notch. We were lucky to get a table for two but would recommend reserving a table during busy days since the place is quite small. The vibe was a mix of fine dining and family run restaurant. The prices were slightly expensive compared to other places around the area but I feel it was absolutely worth it since the food is well seasoned and flavourful. Definitely recommend this place!

wir haben uns bei unserem Besuch im Stachel gleich vom ersten Augenblick an "sauwohl" gefühlt: ein so richtig urtypisch fränkisches Lokal mit herrlich rustikaler Einrichtung. Dazu passend war der freundliche und aufmerksame Service. Als Hauptspeisen hatten wir Wiener Schnitzel vom Kalb mit lauwarmen Kartoffelsalat sowie eine halbe Ente mit Rotkohl und Klößen. Wirklich superlecker! Die Speisekarte ist insgesamt sehr verlockend, eigentlich würde man am liebsten alles probieren! Auch die Weinkarte mit einer sehr guten Auswahl fränkischer Weine verdient eine positive Erwähnung. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

The “Stachel” is the oldest wine bar in Germany and is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in the old town. The historic rooms provide a suitable setting for the first-class cuisine: it is possible to order Franconian specialties as well as vegetarian and modern dishes. I tried the lamb shank and the filled ravioli, along with a wonderful bottle of Würzburger Silvaner. One of the best culinary experiences in Franconia.

Were very disappointed today. Cool room and too loud! Red cabbage too sour and poorly seasoned. Sauerbraten too dry.

...also on the 2nd and 3rd visit: Everything is right here, even if the restaurant is busy. If you want something more Franconian cuisine than schnitzel and Schäufele, come here to enjoy the authentic ambience. The wine selection includes wines from all of the region's major winemakers. The service is simply amazing. Not a single euro is wasted in the sting! Reservation recommended. We keep coming back.

Wir hatten einen Tisch für zwei reserviert. Das Essen kam innerhalb von wenigen Minuten was super überraschend war. Sehr lecker der Zwiebelrostbraten auf den Punkt gebraten. Das Hochzeitsessen ist auf der Zunge zerflossen. Als Nachtisch ein Kaiserschmarren, super fluffig. Alles war wirklich perfekt.

Leider nicht mehr zu empfehlen! Der Stachel war vor längerer Zeit mal unser Stamm Gasthof… Nach diversen Wechseln der Pächter haben wir nach zwei mittelmäßigen Erfahrungen vor zwei drei Jahren gestern zu einen privaten Jubiläum mal wieder einen Versuch unternommen… Leider passte gar nichts! Der Tisch, obwohl 10Tage vorher reserviert, war ein 6er Tisch in der Mitte der Gaststube an dem man sich zu zweit im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes deplatziert vorkam. Die bestelltenForellen waren nicht richtig durch und labbrig, Mandelblättchen waren nicht vorhanden und gewürzt waren sie lediglich mit einem Sträußchen Thymian… Die größte Enttäuschung war aber das Dessert.. Tut uns um das tolle Ambiente leid…es hätte besseres verdient,

Very nice, historic restaurant. The food was largely good (Stachel Pfännle), the Wiener Schnitzel was unfortunately bad (very tough and falling off, flaky breading). Unfortunately, the service didn't ask if everything was OK. was, even though half of the schnitzel was still on the plate when it was cleared away. The small creme brulee dessert with espresso is a great idea and was also very good, but you should make sure that you don't get charged twice for the espresso, which unfortunately happened to us (certainly accidentally and we only noticed it afterwards ). All in all, there is a bit of room for improvement if you take into account the reputation of the restaurant and the prices.
