A very nice restaurant with typical Franconian cuisine, plenty of space... with tables inside and outside next to the Main river. The food was good, the service very friendly and attentive, the restrooms clean, and parking is right next door in the underground garage. Everything was perfect!!! Highly recommended!!!

Once again, a spontaneous perfect landing. Very good value for money, tasty food, friendly service (could be a bit more attentive, perhaps), very nice beer garden, nice interior! We had the Kranen schnitzel, the Franconian sausages with sauerkraut, a side salad (warning for allergy sufferers: contains sunflower seeds), Coke, and fruit schnapps.

We were there with three adults, three children, and two dogs, and we had a wonderful time! We were assigned a suitable table outside in the beautiful weather; we were delighted to be able to sit down as a large family in such a spontaneous setting on a Saturday! The service was very attentive, prompt, and accommodating to all our requests. The food was excellent and very extensive – even for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. One of the best restaurants in Würzburg!

Great beer garden with a lovely terrace, friendly and fast service, and good food and beer. I especially like the fact that you can also make reservations for the outdoor area. We passed by on our way from Hamburg to Austria and had a lovely table on the terrace on a sunny Saturday in August, with no wait.

The food was typical of mass-produced food. It's okay, but the quality isn't much better than cafeteria food. Unfortunately, the service was also typical of mass-produced food, as no one was particularly friendly. The main thing is to get the guests served quickly and then leave quickly so the next guests can come. We had barely finished the main course and just barely finished dessert (everyone still had drinks and ordered correctly) when we were more or less kicked out. The beer is, of course, delicious. But that's not really the point. One of the many places that thrive on its location and tourism without having to do much for it.

Very friendly and quick staff, plus a superb location with a beautiful view, even from the beer garden. The waiters are extremely attentive, and the kitchen is also very fast. The food is fresh, plentiful (with generous portions), and good value for money. I'd be happy to come back and highly recommend it.

There weren't many shady spots in the beer garden, but it was very nice. Service was very irritable and unfriendly. The food was okay, but they needed more seasoning. The price/performance ratio was completely reasonable.

We ate here this evening. All we can say is, the food was fantastic, my goodness... super delicious, and the portions were generous and tasty. The service was quick and friendly. We'll be back, and it's not expensive at all!

We really enjoyed it and enjoyed it. We arrived without a reservation, but an hour later, we were lucky enough to find a free spot on the beautiful terrace. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The standard dishes we chose (roast pork, schnitzel) were of very good quality. The dinner was also very good. The prices were absolutely fair.

We actually only wanted dessert at the Alte Kranen, as the menu seemed very appealing. Unfortunately, our first attempt was disappointing: We were standing visibly in the entrance area, and four different waiters walked past us several times without even looking at us, let alone asking if they could help us. After a while, we left. The next evening, we tried again – this time, at least, we were approached directly. However, when we replied that we would like dessert, we were met with a "Yes, but hurry, the kitchen is closing soon." We were seated at an uncovered table, even though there were many covered tables available. Our request to change seats due to a cold draft was ignored – the windows were closed, but rather reluctantly. Unfortunately, there were no napkins at our table either, as it wasn't set. On the positive side, the dessert arrived very quickly and tasted really good. Nevertheless, the service on both evenings was so inattentive and uninviting that we felt unwelcome. Conclusion: Good food, but unfortunately, the service was so poor that we wouldn't return.

Franconia means beautiful scenery, great beer, and good food! This beer garden embodies them all. Typical dishes like crispy pork shoulder or pork knuckle are the local specialties, best washed down with excellent cold draft beer! There are also lighter options like the charcuterie board and the ever-present obazder, a thick cream cheese spread on black bread. For the health-conscious, there are also salads and soups. The atmosphere is very pleasant, with well-spaced tables both inside and outside, but it's best to book ahead to secure a spot near the river. The waiters are excellent, always available to help you choose your dishes and throughout your stay; they're attentive and never pushy. They speak a little Italian, Spanish, and always English.

You almost get the feeling the waitresses here were forced to serve as punishment—so unfriendly, taciturn, and completely unaccommodating. No greeting, no smile, more of an aura of "I hate people." The food? Mediocre. Generous portions, though. The beer sauce, however, was a real highlight—probably the only thing made with love here. So, a thumbs up for the food, and two thumbs down for the service. The wasps just top it off.

The service was unfortunately the lowest point right from the start: unfriendly, no greeting, zero attention. The children's menu was particularly absurd – it even had a special checklist (drink, main course, ice cream), but the waitress completely ignored it. After the adults' drinks, she simply said dryly, "Oh, I'm not going to look at that. You have to tell me." So why all the effort with a paper children's menu if no one cares anyway? 🙄 Positive: The portions are large, the beer sauce was excellent, and the pork knuckle was at least decent. All in all, though, it was more of an average meal – and the service, unfortunately, makes the visit not really worth recommending.

A typical Bavarian chain restaurant with a rustic ambiance on a sunny terrace overlooking the Rhine. The pork knuckles were good but not exceptional. The spaetzle and dumplings, unfortunately, weren't homemade. The Keiler beer and iced tea were very good.

What a fantastic place! We were on our way to Austria and were disappointed we couldn't stay longer in Würzburg to eat here more often. Beautiful location, delicious food, and the service was incredibly friendly. I'm pregnant, and they were incredibly considerate and accommodating, which is something you rarely see.

My wife and I were passing through and staying at a nearby hotel. We just wanted something to eat, and then we had a 100% hit. Everything was just perfect: the weather was fantastic, the location right on the Main River, the service staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the kitchen was excellent.

The location on the river is charming, with plenty of tables. Despite the rush hour, we were seated right away! The waitresses were very nice and friendly. The pork shank was good, but the sausages were floating in bland cream, not much else. The fried apples were quite good. The homemade lemonade was very good. Overall, it was a pleasant dinner.

Very friendly and attentive service and, of course, a fantastic ambiance on the Main River. Unfortunately, the food in this beer garden is also rather poor in quality. The dumplings are rather firm, tasting of convenience food, and the sauce is thick as pudding. The meat is tender, but nothing special. The schnitzel is relatively small, the fries are lumpy, and everything is rather poorly presented. But it's not too expensive either! The beer from the wooden keg at 5 p.m. is recommended. But you have to get there in time, otherwise it will be sold out, and they actually only have one keg a day!

Superb restaurant where you can taste all the specialties of the region, it was really excellent, very good value for money, the service is fast and very friendly and in addition a magnificent view!

The knuckle of pork was very bland and tasted almost like nothing, and the sauce had already formed a skin on the plate. The food had probably been kept warm for a while. I had to add more pepper and salt several times to be able to eat it, but there are other ways to enjoy it. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the food. The service was friendly and quick, despite the restaurant being quite busy.

The schnitzel in the picture was delicious, the hamburger I ate was quite dry according to him. Nice staff! Our dog was warmly welcomed both inside and outside. The atmosphere would have been at least 4 stars if it weren't for all the wasps. It was swarming with wasps that became even more aggressive when the food came in. We ended up having to leave the cozy outdoor seating and sit indoors because we didn't dare open our mouths for fear of getting a wasp in. Wasp stings can be fatal if you are allergic and don't get help in time, so the restaurant should take the wasp problem seriously. If you can imagine sitting indoors, it's definitely worth a visit ☺️

We were in Würzburg on a whim and came across the Alte Kranen restaurant online. We were able to reserve a table by phone. Therefore, we definitely recommend making a reservation! The waiter arrived as soon as we got to our table. The drinks we ordered arrived in no time. The wait for the main courses was also short. The schnitzel was a pan-fried schnitzel. All the dishes tasted excellent, home-cooked, and freshly prepared. There are also several vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. We will definitely be back.

We visited twice; the service was excellent once, but unfortunately a bit mixed the second time. Well-equipped for children: Highchairs were available quickly and in sufficient quantities, and there's a classic selection of (surprisingly large) children's dishes. There's also a separate changing room, children's cutlery, and coloring pages. The value for money of the dishes is absolutely fine, and the prime location on the Main River is a plus. The vegetarian selection is also impressive. The selection is in no way inferior to the meat dishes and is diverse.

Unfortunately, I can't give a good review because our group of 12 people, after we all ordered drinks, were "asked" to leave immediately. Of course, in a very crowded beer garden, people don't tend to whisper, but I've never experienced anything like that before. It's a good thing there were other restaurants nearby that were happy to welcome us as their guests.

We went to the beer garden for lunch with a larger group. Unfortunately, we were very unlucky with the weather. The large umbrellas protected us somewhat from the rain. I had the baked potato. The portion was very generous and almost impossible to finish. The salad was delicious, as was the quark. Unfortunately, the potato was only lukewarm and slightly dried out. The others had Schäufele, schnitzel, and roast meat, and they all enjoyed it. It's a shame I was unlucky with my potato. The waiters were very attentive to our needs despite the heavy rain. The beer was drinkable, and the rhubarb spritzer was well mixed. If you're in a group, you definitely need to make a reservation. Every seat was taken. I'll try the restaurant again when the weather is better.

Everything was fine, the food was very good, but could have been seasoned a bit better. The service was friendly.

The vegetarian Pflanzerl (vegetarian dish) and Franconian Sauerbraten (sauerbraten) as well as the Schäufele (shoulder of pork) were very good. The service was very attentive. The dining room was well-filled, and we got a good seat right away without a reservation.

The Franconian Scheufele was, of course, a dream. I had the seasonal beer from a wooden barrel. Truly delicious. Excellent service – always there and prompt with delivery. A bonus point for the dirndl. Too bad about the weather – the beer garden is on the list for the next visit.

The food was very tasty, the homemade iced tea was very strong, perhaps with too much syrup. Unfortunately, no changes were made to the side dishes. All in all, it was still solid.

Ordered with a meal list for 6:45 p.m., and by 8:45 p.m., there was still no food. The bus leaves at 9:15 p.m. When it finally arrived, the side dishes were missing. No apologies, unbelievable. You definitely shouldn't make a company reservation here!

Went there with a family (7 people), everyone satisfied with the food. Ordered Weisswurst, which was absolutely amazing and came with absolutely mouthwatering bread slices. Cabbage was salted, maybe a bit too much for the portion but otherwise was really good. Pretzel is as good as everywhere in Germany, blueberry-honey lemonade is decent, but could be probably improved in terms of sweetness (I didn’t taste the honey there?). Fries were not as good, something that can be improved on in terms of crispiness. Schnitzel was amazing, nothing to complain about there. As for atmosphere, it was nicely done in terms of design, however it was decently loud, which is pretty normal in Germany. Overall, everyone enjoyed the food and, if given the chance, would visit again. Definitely recommend to others!

A spacious and beautiful restaurant with friendly staff. It's just a shame that the vegan chickpea dish comes with frozen vegetables. Crunchy carrots aren't necessary. My friend had such delicious red cabbage with his knuckle of pork, so why not just offer fresh carrots and kohlrabi? That would be so much better, for almost €14.

Very friendly staff, good, home-style food. Please make a reservation in advance. The menu is concise, but there's something for everyone. The outdoor area can get a bit crowded; one or two fewer tables would be great, but on the other hand, that's where the money 💰 is made.

We had a wonderful evening at the Alte Kranen! The portions were perfect and perfectly filled us up. The knuckle of pork and cheese spaetzle were delicious, even if the meat was a bit dry. Unfortunately, the cheese spaetzle were also a bit too dry, but that's really nitpicking. Overall, it was worth a visit, and we'd love to come back!
