Restaurant Stürhus in Esens

This is our fifth time dining at Stürhus within a week – that really says it all. An all-around perfect experience: The decor is cozy, rustic, and at the same time maritime – you immediately feel at home. The atmosphere is informal and warm, as is the service. The food is consistently very good, the portions generous, and the prices absolutely fair – the value for money is simply perfect here. A particularly nice feature: Upstairs, there are two tables right by the window with an unobstructed view of Bensersiel Harbor – a real highlight. Outside, a small sun terrace with beach chairs and windbreaks invites you to linger. A real insider tip on the North Sea – we'll definitely be back!

A small, quaint restaurant. Excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. We ate there three times during our vacation, each time having different fish dishes. They were all delicious. We felt very comfortable there and will definitely return. Keep up the good work!

We ate at Stürhus for three days and were thrilled. The atmosphere is very cozy; we immediately felt at home. The staff is super friendly, and the chef is excellent. We loved his cranberry vinaigrette.

We've never eaten fish so good. The fish platter for two came with two fillets each of plaice, zander, redfish, salmon, and cod. It was so fresh, it was still wriggling! We also had jacket potatoes with herb quark and two tablespoons of fried potatoes, because they were sooooo delicious. The aperitif and wine were also delicious. Definitely a stop!

We asked if we could eat outside. After 15 minutes, the waiter finally arrived, and after 25 minutes, when we tried to order our food, the waiter told us he wasn't allowed to accept any more food.

A small but fine restaurant with very attentive and friendly staff. Extensive menu. Whether fish or meat: very tasty and harmonious. We'll be happy to come back when we're in Bensersiel.

We've been to Stürhus four or five times now and have always ordered something different from the menu. No matter what we ate (fish and meat), it was delicious. The waitresses, the kitchen crew, and the atmosphere at Stürhus – everything is just perfect. We'd love to come back. I'm already looking forward to winter with your delicious kale.

A rustic restaurant with a good menu focusing on fish. The herring menu is fantastic, something you won't find anywhere else. We enjoyed the combination of herring, sherry-stained herring, and fried herring with fried potatoes.

Food was delicious and freshly prepared. It could have used a pinch of salt. Unfortunately, we had a place right at the entrance to the toilet, where every now and then a gush of toilet cleaner would come up when the door opened. It wasn't that you couldn't stand it, but it was somehow unpleasant to eat.

Nach entlichen Anläufen haben wir es geschafft dorthin zum Essen. Die Speisekarte lässt keine Wünsche offen. Die Fischplatte für 2 ist zu empfehlen. Dort hat man eine Vielfalt von verschiedenen Fischfilets zur Auswahl. Die Saucen waren sehr gut. Als Beilage hatten wir Bratkartoffeln. Empfehleswert

Great atmosphere, great menu, had the tastiest fish platter ever. It was even explained to us, what a super friendly service. You have to have been here.

Three girls on vacation. They were treated to a delicious meal and then had a lot of fun at the bar.

Because of the many good reviews, we went there on our first evening in Bernersiel. The store is quite quaint, even if it smells a bit like a toilet. Since it was low season, we got a table in the upper area without any problems. The waitresses were very quick and friendly. The Jever is i. Oh, even if you can get much better tap beer in the area. If you like wine, you won't find anything here, the wine list is small, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but it's very uninspired. To eat: As a starter we had the small shrimp pan in olive and chilli oil, then the salad with fish fillet and the fish platter with redfish and plaice fillet in Dijon mustard sauce, plus croquettes, as the fried potatoes were only available with bacon. While the salad was okay, the fish platter was completely disappointing. The fish fillets were fried to death but in no way crispy and without any taste. But the worst thing was the “Dijon mustard sauce”. It was a watery something that was vaguely reminiscent of mustard only because of its color and the small grains it contained. The taste and consistency were really subpar. To top it off, all dishes were served with baked, dry ciabatta bread. Because the coffee machine was broken and we wanted to consume something with taste. Instead we ordered an East Frisian tea with rock candy. When asked whether it was a pot or a cup, we said a cup. We were then given a cup with a Winston brand black tea blend tea bag. When we asked, we were told that East Frisian tea is only available in a pot. You could have said it too. Conclusion: tourist shop that will always be running. It's best to order run-of-the-mill dishes with fries, then you'll definitely be full. If you have any demands on the kitchen, you should go somewhere else.

Small, timeless restaurant right on the Siel. Rustic Frisian ambience with pub charm, service in the best sense of Nordic by nature. We were there in the off-season at the end of November and ordered the fish platter for two people. Everything was fresh, to the point and completely delicious - decent, down-to-earth cuisine at fair prices. Totally recommended!

We ate at Stürhus with 4 people. My father's walking impairment was not taken into account during the rather abrupt greeting - no, not Frisian harsh, but abrupt - and he also had to "torture" his way up the narrow, steep stairs to the upper floor. The service in the upper area was young and dynamic, a bit too flippant in some sequences, but all in all friendly and motivated. The food was okay, but not as over the top as we would have thought after the recessions. The fish was well salty - maybe the chef was in love?! - and unfortunately there was no highlight that could have improved this. The atmosphere is cozy and cozy (at least on the upper floor). Unfortunately, overall we can only give it an average rating!

Wir waren hier an meinem Geburtstag hier zum Essen (während unserem Urlaub) und wir waren begeistert. Wir hatten Reserviert (auf jeden Fall besser) und waren 20 Minuten zu früh, wurden aber trotzdem herzlich empfangen und zum Tisch gebracht. Wir wurden von der Chefin persönlich bedient und waren begeistert. Die Speisekarte ist mehr als üppig und es ist für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. (Wir hatten Fischplatte für Zwei und Stürhus-Pfanne, beides sehr zu empfehlen!!!!!) Wir haben uns entschlossen zwei Tage später zum Abschluss des Urlaubs nochmal zu reservieren und wurden auch diesmal nicht enttäuscht. Die Küche arbeitet mit Herz und Hand. Die Portionen sind sehr großzügig und der Service ausgezeichnet. Macht weiter so! Wir wissen wo wir im nächsten Nordseeurlaub zum Essen gehen. Danke für diese Erfahrung. Liebe Grüße aus Hessen

Like on every holiday, we were back in the Stürhus. However, this time it wasn't good at all. First of all, the restaurant is very narrow. This should be taken into account for strollers or similar. We ordered our food and when it arrived we were told that the food had been prepared incorrectly. As “compensation” there was a schnapps on the house. If it had stayed that way... We had ordered more fries for a meal and they came when everyone had finished eating. When the real food finally arrived with the plaice, the "leek vegetables" were cooked in a strong mustard sauce. Fortunately, since there was no allergy, it was eaten. We politely asked the waitress whether there was mustard in the food because she didn't say anything about it. This was confirmed by the waitress. She wanted to send the boss because we don't think it's okay if you aren't told what to do. She took more than her time and only showed up after asking again. Apparently she is sick, but is still in the restaurant (also questionable..) We were only told that we should have asked for the allergy card, it would be there.. For us this visit was the last visit! It's a shame that you can't speak to the team at the Stürhaus Restaurant properly. Please note that there can be something else in it everywhere.

We spent a week on the North Sea and ate there three times. 2x fish platter for 2 people and the meat platter. The whole team is super nice to have fun with too. Without a reservation no chance to get a place. My husband ordered a table for my birthday and it was decorated accordingly.

The restaurant is highly recommended. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is rustic northern German and the girls are all nice and attentive. My wife and I went there three times in a week's vacation and were never disappointed. On the last day there was the fish platter. The photo speaks for itself, right? 🤤 Finally, you should drink a “Northern Lights” drink. And always reserve! We will definitely come back on our next vacation.

Bad food and the service is very unfriendly

Very nice service staff, great atmosphere. The odd cobweb is also part of it 😉 The waitress came promptly to take the drinks and food orders. The drinks were brought quickly and the food didn't take long to arrive either. The food was great in terms of taste and appearance.

Super delicious food, definitely worth visiting, Katharina and the team were very attentive, were at the counter even after the meal and always had a great evening. Definitely coming back next year. A little tip: be sure to reserve a table

Absolutely recommended, super great food and have been there several times. You have to reserve in advance and you should do that if you want to end the day super satisfied.

So my meal was sensational! The cutter plaice with roasted bacon and onions with baked potatoes and herb quark was brilliant! The price was definitely ok. The staff was reserved at first but then very friendly. So it is absolutely recommended 👍 But definitely reserve a table... Edit: Went there again and had plaice with leeks. Also delicious, but in my opinion the leek is too strong for the delicate plaice. Still 5 stars for Kerstin and the other women and men in the kitchen!!

We had dinner at "Stürhus" three times during our 10-day stay in Bensersiel and it was always a great experience. The service is very friendly, attentive and quick. The food was always very tasty, beautifully prepared and fresh. Prices are more than appropriate for the excellent quality. We can fully recommend the “Stürhus”, even for families with children.

Auf der Terrasse kann man nett sitzen,Innengastro gemütlich,abends gegessen.Die Gerichte schwammen im Öl,Preisleistung katastrophal,die Chefin geht zum lachen in den Keller,alles wirkt stressig und hektisch.

Very nice restaurant, the service is very quick, ordering drinks was very quick and something was brought for the children to paint, but the food wasn't that great for this price range. The fish on the fish platter tastes bland... the fish on the fish platter is very good, but the sauces on the fish platter taste like ready-made powder stirred into water - no spice or taste I actually wanted to eat a crab soup as a starter, whereupon I was told that they didn't have any crabs, but that wasn't so bad because the broth from which the soup is made is used to cook the crabs and the soup anyway would taste like crabs... I've never heard of anything like that. For pasta in pesto cream (loveless and totally bland) In my opinion, asking €22.40 was far too much…. Well, the look of the food here is definitely great, in keeping with the saying “you eat with your eyes”, but the taste and price are not so good For two children and two adults 124€ is definitely too much So unfortunately that's not enough for us for a second visit

A very nice, rustic fish restaurant on the promenade in Bensersiel. Highly recommended, the Hamburger Pannfisch is really an absolute poem, I had to order it again on the second visit. Reservations are also recommended here as the restaurant is in high demand. The girls (and boys) there do a great job and, despite a lot of work, stress and pressure, they are always in a good mood with a funny saying on their lips. 100% recommendation and a tip for the ladies, don't forget to take a deep breath every now and then.

Price, service, quantity and taste were great. The service was nice and “cheeky”. Always happy to have lunch there. We were back there in August 2023. There is no other way to say it: TOP, recommended. The service is excellent, fast and works like a charm... Always happy(!!!) August 2024...it felt like the years before. A great team, great food, great atmosphere, an "eloquent" boss who holds the shop together. Always worth a trip.

The Stürhus in Bensersiel offers a wonderful experience in a great location, just a few minutes' walk from the beach. The rustic, cozy furnishings give the restaurant a special atmosphere in which you immediately feel at home. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, which makes the stay even more pleasant. The meat platter for two people is particularly recommended – the meat was excellently prepared and of the best quality. Unfortunately, the sauces served with it were not convincing in terms of taste, which was a bit of a downer. Another point of disappointment was the lack of card payment, which should be standard these days, especially in a tourist area. Otherwise everything was great and we would love to come back!

If you want to eat delicious fish, this is the right place. Large portions and very friendly service. However, no card payment is possible, which is no longer appropriate these days.

It's just as good there as it was many years ago. The ladies there are very nice. Everything great But you notice that everything has become super expensive, and logically you also pay for the health resort and the tourist shishi. I would like to do it more often, but I don't have the dough.

Good and tasty food, friendly service, we would love to come back if we go on holiday nearby again. On August 9th, 2024 we ate at Stürhus again after 5 years. This evening the food was again very tasty and recommended. We had the schnitzel "Viennese style", the schnitzel with mushrooms and cream sauce and the redfish wrapped in bacon. The portions were plentiful. The staff was very friendly. We'll come back on our next vacation, promise.
