Restaurant Stephanskeller in Konstanz

Unfortunately, not a good review. We were greeted unfriendly by the manager. When we asked if card payments were possible, she rudely denied it! Only cash payment was accepted, even though the online description explicitly states that card and credit card payments are allowed. We got up and left.

Very good food, generous portions.

To start with the positives. The location, slightly on the edge of the main thoroughfare, is fantastic. When we arrived, only two tables inside and almost all of the tables outside were occupied. However, none of the tables were full. After a "few minutes" (it was half an hour), we were asked if we wanted to order something. We stated our drink preferences. We confirmed whether we would also like something to eat. After five minutes, our drinks and menus arrived. We opened the menus. I didn't take a photo of them. The corners in the lower area reminded me more of books from a 200-year-old library. The corners no longer existed. They were heavily worn. The dishes sounded good and interesting. Unfortunately, we couldn't get our order out. After various signs and acoustic signals to the waitress, we weren't heard. After an hour, we gave up, but strangely enough, we were able to pay and left the restaurant.

The restaurant is located in a side street. Outdoor tables are well shaded. The waitress definitely doesn't know how to handle people, so it's tempting to assume she must be the owner, since no one would voluntarily employ such an unfriendly person. The food was good, but not outstanding.

The waitress was extremely unfriendly. When she came to take our order, we had only been there a short time, and I didn't know what to order. I told the waitress what I was supposed to do. She came back less than two minutes later to take our order and cheekily told me that she had to walk so much because of me, and it wasn't funny either. While taking our order, she was also very rude and didn't even say thank you. When we wanted to pay, it turned out that they didn't accept card payments. We hadn't been told this beforehand, and it wasn't on the menu. And then she rudely said that the nearest bank was around the corner. But she still waited at the table with her wallet open to be paid, even though she knew we had to go to the bank first. Furthermore, the woman who served us sat at a table next to the okay entrance the whole time and smoked.

Unfortunately, we weren't satisfied with our visit to the Stephanskeller. The food (fish crisps with fries) was okay, but nothing special. The menus were also dirty and torn. The waitress was very unfriendly. She was particularly rude to our request to pay by card. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it.

Quiet location, yet still in the city center. The outdoor seating is very nice. The tuna pizza was quite decent. However, none of the olives on it were pitted. Basically, it's fine as it is. However, a bowl or something similar must be served if the pizza is served on a wooden board. Otherwise, you don't know what to do with the pits. Reichenau salad with Maultaschen (raw pasta pockets). The salad was drowning in a creamy dressing. Some of the lettuce leaves were still uncut – a slice of cucumber cut diagonally, the size of a beer mat, and the whole thing was served on a pasta plate. It's almost impossible to cut properly with a plate like that. At the very bottom was iceberg lettuce, which apparently wasn't dried properly after washing, and the marinade turned it into a watery mess. On top were the delicious and slightly crispy Maultaschen pieces. The longer the meal took, the mushier they became, however. In summary: a normal plate, serve the salad bite-sized and dried. Your guests will be grateful.

Very pleasant and quiet location, good quality service and food. Unfortunately, the payment didn't work at the end. I couldn't pay with a credit card. It's a shame that this doesn't work. My wife had to go to the ATM, where she also had to pay a fee.

Terrible experience. I paid €72.90 for nothing. I ordered a grilled meat that arrived completely raw. The fries on the side were completely overcooked, and the meat was left whole. Awful salad on the side. I didn't even bother peeling it, as it was cut in one piece. It wasn't even brought to the table, not even washed. The waitress is right to change jobs. This isn't typical German cuisine. Not recommended.

We were delighted to find this restaurant after a long drive. It seemed clean and well-maintained. We received prompt and friendly service, the food was very good, and it was clean (including the restrooms). We'd be happy to come back.

I think we had a terrible experience with the owner of the restaurant. She didn't even try to understand us since we don't speak German, but we spoke English quite well. She was very rude and impatient. At the end of the dinner, which wasn't great, we paid at the cashier. Since the owner was busy outside, when she saw us leave, she became worried that we hadn't paid, with a very rude and characteristic attitude. We definitely do NOT recommend going there. We paid for a water that ranged from €0.75 to €7.90—absurd.

Given the restaurant's name, one would expect German-speaking staff—unfortunately, this made communication a bit tricky. Cutlery was only brought upon request, which made the service seem a bit slow. The food tasted okay, but the portions were rather small for the price. Overall, a mixed experience with room for improvement, especially in terms of service and value for money.

We stopped in and were greeted warmly by the waitresses outside. Shady seating and good food. We enjoyed it. The dog even got a bowl of water. The interior is rustic and very clean. We'd gladly return.

They just wanted a coffee and didn't want to order anything to eat, and they immediately responded rudely. It was very unpleasant. When we wanted to pay, she simply said, "Cash only." This wasn't clear when we sat down. These days, you can pay by card in almost all restaurants, unless it's explicitly stated otherwise. She said I could come with me and went inside the restaurant. There was a card reader, and she said we could see if it worked today. "Bad connection down here." Then I told her that, unfortunately, many restaurants just say that. The payment worked.

Friendly staff, tasty food and calm place!

I had a pepper steak with a really good pepper sauce. And my wife had a spinach pizza with top-notch quality and flavor. The service was super attentive; we can truly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Rustikal historisierend eingerichtetes Keller-Restaurant mit Außenbereich In relativ ruhiger Nebengasse. Auf den ersten Blick beeindruckt das Ambiente, auf den zweiten fallen die durchgewetzten Polsterstoffe und verlorenen Ziernägel an den Stühlen auf. Das Personal ist bemüht und freundlich, trotzdem vergisst die Küche mein Essen. – Die Gäste an den Nebentischen haben mehr Glück, werden sehr rasch bedient. – Als Ausgleich bekomme ich einen kleinen Beillagensalat serviert, den ich allerdings bewusst nicht bestellt habe: Ich kenne mein „Fassungsvermögen“ sehr gut. So rasch wie die Essen serviert werden, können sie kaum frisch zubereitet sein. Die Spätzle auf meinem Teller sind definitiv aus der Fertigpackung. Obwohl ich Schwabe bin, der Soße liebt, ist es hier für mich zu viel: Die Nudeln ertrinken in der geschmacklich sehr neutral gehaltenen Tunke. Mich begeistern hier weder Ambiente noch Qualität des Essens. Das Lokal ist nicht barrierefrei, zur Toilette (entspricht sie noch heutigen Standards?) sind Stufen zu bewältigen. Das Restaurant ist gut geeignet für eilige Gäste ohne große Ansprüche. Das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis ist selbst für Konstanz nur einigermaßen in Ordnung.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. The service is unfriendly. (Every customer is a burden). They would rather light one cigarette after another every 10 minutes not far from the outdoor seating. In our case, I was brought a different drink than the one I ordered. I was probably not understood correctly when I placed my order. That can happen. But to then be lectured and to argue with the customer as if it were a matter of life and death is incomprehensible to me. I had expected a simple correction and the right drink. After the incident, we took a closer look at the food. And lo and behold, a carelessly prepared salad with a cheap dressing from a bottle. The salad had brown spots and was therefore inedible. Our expectations were not met when paying either. No card payments accepted. Only cash. But even for this, a logical reason quickly becomes apparent upon closer consideration.

Nice for sitting outside. The Dünnerle had nothing of the well-known traditional dish; it was a bad thin pizza. The server was so arrogant and unfriendly that we felt uncomfortable. When paying, we learned that card payments weren't accepted. Not recommended. There are certainly friendlier places with good food in Konstanz.

Please avoid this place!The food was served almost instantly. The asparagus was so overcooked, it turned into a slimy, stringy mess when you tried to cut it. The hollandaise sauce was so thick and congealed. The chicken, dried out and the2 pieces were a regular shapes, almost like small burgers. My husband ordered salmon, which wasn't actually a piece of salmon as expected but sliced of bright orange , sticky ,cold stuff that had probably just left a plastic package.The potatoes were luke warn, dried out with a few soecks of green that were possibly parsley.. We tried to eat some of it, but it was really revolting. The waiter asked if it was ok and I told him politely that it was all overcooked. and we just wanted to pay . The woman in charge was as lovely as the food.Scruffy and aggressive,she started complaining about Ukrainian people coming to live in the upper floors of the building . Ranting in about them being better off than herself and how she worked 11 hours a day. The bill was over 60 euros. We had paid less for much better meals with a starter or dessert and coffee elsewhere in Constance The positive reviews must be out of date.

Ambience leaves a lot to be desired, food came so quickly, it looks like it was microwaved. The owners speak broken German and each other in their local language. You feel alien

Today we wanted to eat in your restaurant because it seemed very attractive from the outside. Unfortunately, we were treated so rudely upon entering the restaurant that we decided to leave before we could even sit down or order. We arrived with a stroller and politely asked to sit inside as it was too windy outside for our baby. Although the dining room was empty, the lady at the entrance pointed out to us in a very harsh tone that there were stairs inside. She let us in, but her whole attitude was unfriendly from the start. When we finally asked if we could get a high chair, she replied in an extremely unpleasant tone that she had to get it - as if it was a big burden. Because of this disrespectful manner, we decided to leave the restaurant immediately. We would like to emphasize that we have always been polite. Unfortunately, the employee was rude and unprofessional towards us from the start, which was very disappointing.

La calle del restaurante. Stephanskeller en Constanza es bastante bueno. Está en el centro histórico de la ciudad, en un lugar muy tranquilo. Like many, we were attracted by the traditional storefront and interior. The welcome was nice, but that's all there is to positive things to say. The food is very basic: the beer is not cold, the fish is full of oil, and the spätzlis are just small flaccid noodles. Everything is reheated in the microwave, which gives a soft and unpleasant texture. As for white wine, it is simply bad, very acidic. In short, the value for money is very disappointing and this restaurant is not recommended at all. The restaurant was empty and we understand why...

Canteen food, dishes reheated in the microwave and without any interest. Barely cooked and mushy spätzli, bathed in canned sauce. The meat was tough. The trout fillet was not bad but tasteless and fatty. The white wine (pinot gris) was very acidic and of poor quality. The establishment seen from the outside is enticing, the interior decoration is typical and picturesque. Too bad, we should have read the Google reviews before entering this restaurant..

We were attracted by the historic wooden entrance of a typical Tavern. The historic furnishings are beautiful. We ordered a cordon blue and a grilled meat. Didn't like the meat, the beef had an unpleasant smell, the lamb had a very strong persistent smell, I recommend using better cuts.

Relativ rustikal gehaltenes Restaurant. Das Personal war bemüht, den Aufenthalt angenehm zu gestalten. Allerdings kann man zu seinen Gästen schauen, ohne sie zu sehen. Das Essen wurde zügig serviert und war auch heiß. Die Leber war gut zubereitet, allerdings hatte man das Gefühl, beim Würzen ist etwas zu viel Salz verwendet worden, so dass die Soße gestreckt werden musste. Das Hähnchengeschnetzelte schmeckte nach Standardgewürzmischung. Zusammenfassend kann gesagt werden, man kann ordentlich sitzen und wird satt allerdings in die Geschmacksrichtung Imbiss.

There is fish, meat, vegetarian, all dishes are freshly prepared. The service is very friendly. There are also tables outside in front of the restaurant.

While looking for a good restaurant, we and our group of 6 came across this quiet restaurant. We were given an outside table on this warm September evening. It was noticeable that the waitress (presumably also the owner) treated the guests, especially the older people, in a very tomboyish manner. In between, she smoked in front of the bar and threw the butts into the public drain in front of the bar. That didn't make a good impression. The dishes were all average. I treated myself to a prawn pan. The pan was served hot. The contents consisted mostly of noodles, and you could count the shrimp on two hands. When I asked whether it was a shrimp or a pasta pan, the answer was: "The cook must have forgotten something." Whether I want an ouzo or raki to balance things out. I was the only one at the table who was served a raki. We also forgot the tip when paying.

Cozy terrace in the middle of Konstanz. Good choice of excellent 'kuchen'. The Black Forest torte is especially recommended. Price was a bit on the high side.

While looking for a restaurant with classic regional cuisine, we came across the Stephanskeller restaurant. The service staff were exceptionally friendly and served us very quickly. The food was great, the schnitzel gets an A+ from me. We'd love to come back.

The food is anything but not good. It's expensive, it's not fresh, salad dressing from a can, ready to go, there's no sauce and in Swabia, the land of sauce!!!, carelessly thrown onto the plate, meat (cordon bleu) is cruel. The meat is definitely frozen, the rump steak is a joke. Never in my life has 200g, as stated, been badly fried, with salad from the bucket, dressing ready to go. No thanks!!! Please don't go there, save yourself the 60 euros and go eat sensibly and deliciously.

Chicken was very dry, when I wanted to pay it took a long time. When I went in to pay, all the employees were eating together. I was then able to pay, had to pay €43.10 (for two people, it was way too expensive and wasn't actually the right price) then the employee cheekily entered the tip himself and made €45 out of it without me doing anything said (I wanted to give a cash tip afterwards, but then it was done) Very very cheeky.....incredible, I wouldn't recommend it at all....

Not recommendable ! Starter mozzarella tomato salad a joke, 8 slices of tomato 4 slices of mozzarella awesome where is that a salad for 10.90 euros! Then the zucchini pan. For 15.90 euros a mini portion and the food was very bland, the chicken curry pan looked plentiful but the portions were damn thin, but the taste of the dish was good! There are definitely better restaurants in the old town!

Service was a disaster, unfriendly and incompetent. In the end payment was only possible in cash. Canned food and or ready meals. The side dish salt was a disgrace. Even the rice was saved and a small piece of extra bread (smaller than a hand) should cost 1€. Price was quite ok for that.

If the restaurant is a little out of the way, at least the food should be top. The home-bought spaetzle was swimming in a watery sauce, the meat was far dry. A pity!

Pizza? No. It was a rag from which oil flowed. Spetzle with sauce served so that half was drowned in the sauce, the other half of the plate was dry. It was not possible to mix it, because the plate was small for this. And the highlight was that you couldn't pay by card. Of course, no one warned us in advance about the non-functional terminal, so a bad lunch was followed by a sprint through the crowd and a search for a working ATM. So far my wife was sitting in the pub and no one was paying attention to her. This is an experience that you really cannot forget. We will really remember Constance with love.

We were visiting Konstanz and chose this restaurant because it was a little away from the hustle and bustle. Unfortunately we were more than disappointed, we had the grill plate and the cordon bleu. On the grill plate, the fries were so full of fat that they were sticky and inedible, the lamb tasted more like old mutton and the poultry was fried far too well and therefore completely dry. In addition, unfortunately, the kitchen doesn't seem to think much of spices and salt, except for the dried oregano that was added in large quantities to the lamb, which, by the way, wasn't even trimmed properly because the tendon was still on the back piece. The cordon bleu was edible, but honestly not anymore. Here too, the meat was far too cooked and dry and the cheese inside was absolutely tasteless. The side salad was showered with a ready-made dressing. When we were then asked if everything was OK and we told the lady that the fries were inedible and therefore remained on the plate, we were told that she had seen it immediately. So we had to ask ourselves why people bring their food to the guest like that. When the salad dressing was ready we were told that this was not true and that they had been making the dressing this way for thirteen years. I'll stick with it, you can tell it was ready. Of course, the fries were not deducted from the bill, so we paid almost €30 for a very poor grilled plate and €20 for a cordon bleu and both would have tasted better in any snack bar and would have been cheaper. Finally, I'm really sorry to say, but this was one of the worst meals we've ever been served in a restaurant. I can only advise everyone to look for something different.

Wir hatten das Lokal ausgesucht, weil es sehr ruhig und gemütlich etwas abseits des Trubels liegt. Haben den Fischteller und den Zwiebelrostbrsten mit einem Beilagensalat für stolze 7,50 Euro bestellt. Das Essen war innerhalb von 20 Minuten am Tisch. Der Geschmack war kein Erlebnis im Vergleich zu heute in Allensbach. Dafür war die Rechnung überirdisch hoch. (1 Flasche Mineralwasser für 9,50 Euro ist für ein normales Restaurant schlicht unverschämt).

Nice, rustic restaurant, unfortunately loses its effect due to many oriental accents. The restaurant was unoccupied except for two more tables at 6 p.m. Ec there are about 15-20 tables. We wanted something to drink and eat. Preferably something traditional, middle-class (Maultaschen, Spätzle...) The welcome was friendly, table for 3 went straight away. After receiving the dirty, greasy menus, we realized that this place was focused on Greek food. This wasn't obvious from the outside. In addition, schnitzel, spaetzle, pizza, pasta, etc. were offered. Not wanting to be rude, we ordered 2 soft drinks, 1 wheat beer and 2 cappuccinos. Unfortunately the latter were more milk coffees... €24.80 We told the waitress that we were sticking with drinks. A few minutes later, the lady is standing at the counter and complaining loudly about us. We should have told her that we ONLY wanted something to drink, that we were impossible and that we (the paying guests) were blocking the last table. Little reminder, 6 p.m., the place was almost empty... So while we remain seated, the lady irons out guests who are already seated and a new guest. The cheeky manner is probably meant to be friendly, but it doesn't go down well when you complain about guests. The unpleasant stay of around 25 minutes will not be repeated in this restaurant.

Wir waren über Mittag dort. Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Ein Herr aus Ungarn, auch sehr netter Smalltalk. Ich hatte den Zwiebelrostbraten vom Rumpsteak für ca. 28 Euro. Stolzer Preis, zahl ich auch gern, wenn es passt. Das Essen kam SEHR schnell, was mich schon wundert. Janu, die Bratkartoffeln waren nur schnell durch die Pfanne gezogen und schmeckten eher nach Kantine. Der Rostbraten war ein durchgebatenes Stück Fleisch mit Sosse und fertigen Röstzwiebeln drüber geschüttet... Geht gar nicht ! Absolutes Fertigfutter im Kantinenstyle. Es war ok, man konnte es essen,aber so etwas erwarte ich sicher nicht in einem Restaurant und schon gar nicht zu dem Preis. Salat war übrigens nicht bei dem Gericht dabei, hätte ich extra ordern müssen. Schade... Personal und Ambiente ( bis auf die schmuddeligen Toiletten) haben mir gut gefallen.

So I had a good meal here, schnitzel. I'd recommend it. Great location. REALLY great ambience inside but it was too hot to eat inside and everyone was outside. I'd love to return in the winter because the inside looks really really cool.

Hatten Dessert. Witziger, prompter und netter Service. Preise sind fair für die Lage.

Das Essen war sehr lecker!! Bedienung war freundlich, und es ging alles sehr flott. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Dünnele & Apfelstrudel waren top, das Geschirr hat schon bessere Tage gesehen.
