Very good food, rich, again and again

A very great evening. We were warmly welcomed by the boss personally. The staff immediately took care of every request and was particularly friendly beyond the usual. Papadam and chutney, as well as dessert, were free. Everything was made in-house, even the ice cream. The quality of the food was so good that we will go back to Bremen just because of the food and the experience. The 90 minute drive is worth it. Clear recommendation. 🙂

Delicious Indian restaurant. There's a wide selection of dishes, many of which are vegan-friendly. When the restaurant is full, it can get a bit noisy.

Today, we visited the restaurant around 7:00 pm, being Indians , we were so happy to see the interiors, food quality was also good, but when Mr. Aulakh told us before starting the dining, that without ordering drinks they don't allow, we clarified that ok we will dine somewhere else as we don't want drinks but only food, later out of courtesy he gave us a table, after we finished our food, during paying the bill he says this is the cheapest bill of the day , we generally don't allow to sit without drinks, I mean as out of Indian dining etiquettes, after feeding the guests(we ordered two meals, separate for each other and additionally a tandoori roti) this is NOT the the right way of acknowledging them while bidding them goodbye, we had clearly told him we won't order drinks even before sitting for dining, where in he said that's ok , this is not good Mr.Aulakh, you might have served many, but don't repeat this with anyone else . Thanks for the dinner today and Good luck for your hospitality!!

Been here 4 times already. It's a really good restaurant with a wide variety of delicious options to choose from. The service was always friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

We reserved a table at 7:15 p.m. When we arrived at 7:21 p.m. (!), our table was given elsewhere. Absolute disgrace!! The restaurant's response below is NOT applicable. My friend had reserved the table and we were NOT offered another table because our table was already taken and all other tables were occupied.

Eigentlich schreibe ich keine Bewertungen, da sie in der Regel subjektiv und somit irreführend sind. Hier mache ich allerdings eine Ausnahme. Wir waren Silvesterabend dort und statt a la carte gab es ein Menü für 40 € pro Nase ohne Getränke. Für uns hat hier überhaupt nichts gepasst. Service / Bedienung: völlig empathielos und gleichgültig. Ohne Sinn für guten Service. Essen: langweilig und geschmacklos. Vermutlich vorgekocht. Die Suppe schmeckte fade und einfallslos. Das Hauptgericht war verkocht, geschmacksarm und nicht ansatzweise authentisch. Der Nachtisch ( Eis ) war geschmacklich so lala. Alles im allem war die Enttäuschung groß.

We were there in December and luckily got a place because we didn't have a reservation. Even though the restaurant was full, we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food was very tasty. In our opinion, value for money is very good.

After a good trip to Bremen. This place turend out to be a much needed apetite pleasure. We had a great time with Mr. Robby and the food is amazingly good with authentic Indian flavours.

Shalimar is without a doubt a real gem for all lovers of authentic Indian cuisine! As soon as you enter the restaurant you feel enveloped in the warm and inviting atmosphere. The owner and the entire staff are incredibly friendly, attentive and immediately make you feel at home. The food was simply breathtaking - every dish was prepared with love and full of authentic flavors that take you on a culinary journey to India. I was particularly impressed by the variety and perfection of the dishes - every ingredient seemed to be carefully selected. The desserts were an absolute highlight and the cocktails were a treat for the senses - perfectly paired and a great complement to the meal. I would recommend Shalimar to anyone who wants to experience true Indian cuisine. It was an unforgettable experience and I'm looking forward to coming back!

Today, I arrived at the restaurant at 1:00 PM for lunch, which is served until 2:30 PM. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived, but we were told that we could only order takeaway. Despite this, my boyfriend and I decided to stay, ordered our food, and paid. As we were waiting for our takeaway, a couple walked in and was seated. Shortly after, another couple arrived and was also given a table and served. Confused, we asked the waitress why they were being served while we were only offered takeaway. He told us it was because they had reservations, which was clearly not the case. We visit this restaurant at least 1–2 times per month because we really enjoy the food and want to support local businesses. However, nothing justifies the way we were treated today. The staff has never been particularly friendly, but they’ve always been polite enough. Considering that they know we’re regulars, we don’t understand why they decided not to serve us this time. We are never coming back again!

Went there with family and friends based on recommendations from locals. One of the challenges is the small entrance door and no wheelchair or buggy accessible entrance. Leaving that aside, we were impressed by the interior, and it looked quite traditional and out of the box. Seating arrangement is reasonable, could be a bit spacious but perhaps too much to expect for a city center restaurant. We were served by a young lad, and it was quite welcoming and polite. Service was a bit slow and not up to mark, food was brought to table but we were never asked if we need help with servings since the food is served in hot pots which are very difficult to handle and can get burns on hands if you are with kids. Food itself was very low spicy, which was a bit disappointing since we were expecting authentic Indian taste. Samosa chat needs improvement, at least needs salt if not spice. On the brighter side, we loved Naan and drinks. Overall, it was average experience at this visit. Hope it will improve in future. Good luck.

Dieses indische Restaurant ist in allen Bereichen top. Angefangen von der tollen indischen Inneneinrichtung über das sehr leckere Essen bis zum extrem freundlichen Personal. Auch die Cocktails sind sehr zu empfehlen. Wir würden auch aus Hamburg wieder hierfahren um so authetisches Essen zu genießen.

A great and small Indian restaurant. The staff is very attentive, insightful and great. The food was great - the price-performance ratio was also good. The ambience is Oriental/Indian, a cozy atmosphere.

If you don't like coriander but go to an Indian restaurant, it's your own fault. But if you ask twice that coriander shouldn't be sprinkled on the dish, but then it does, then that's annoying. If you then mention this, the plate is taken back, it is back after a minute, the cabbage is half-heartedly picked up and otherwise stirred in, then I find it almost impertinent. I could have done it myself. I just don't go to (or this) Indian restaurant anymore. By the way, it was similar at the next table, only there it was about gluten. Wasn't implemented either. If you have serious food intolerances, it could turn out badly. The ambience is otherwise quite appealing and the food tasted good, but wasn't really served hot.

Tolles Essen hier. Wir waren zu viert als Familie und der Kellner war sehr nett und lustig. Sofort waren die Kinder dabei und hatten auch ihr Spaß. Wir hatten eine kleine Vorspeise (gemischte Pakora und Samosa) und diese waren sehr lecker und ihren Preis wert. Nach eine kurze Zeit und die Hauptspeisen kamen. 4 unterschiedliche Curries, alles von mild bis sehr Scharf und alles super gewürzt. Ich komme aus England und da haben wir sehr viele sehr gute Indische Restaurants und dieser machten den Konkurrenz. Wir kommen gerne wieder wenn wir wieder nach Bremen kommen!

Ein indisches Restaurant mit Top-Essen. Alle unsere Gerichte schmeckten sehr gut und waren auf Wunsch auch fast authentisch gewürzt. Die location ist wohl auch recht beliebt, da mehrere Grüppchen brav darauf warteten, Tische zugewiesen zu bekommen. Wir hatte glücklicherweise reserviert. einziger Wehrmutstropfen ist der Service, der langsam, überfordert und chaotisch ist. Hier ist noch massiv Luft nach oben. Das Essen jedoch war es wert.

Discovered spontaneously and enjoyed the best Indian food (vegetarian). The Naan Garlic is to die for! The dishes were excellently seasoned and prepared according to our wishes (light and medium spicy). I would order this again. Attentive and nice service.

Absolut top! Der Service ist aufmerksam und kennt seine Speisen. Das Essen kam ohne lange Wartezeiten obwohl wir nicht allein waren. Was ich mit einem indischen Restaurant bislang nicht in Verbindung gebracht habe, Alkohol. Hier gibt es indischen Wein, der sehr lecker ist und zum Schluss ein Glas aufs Haus. Wir kommen wieder.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have been to. Our wedding anniversary was on the 9th of September, I and my husband decided to satisfy our cravings for Indian food. Choosing this restaurant was the best decision we made on that day. The food was amazingly delicious. The people were so friendly and welcoming. The food wasn’t expensive. We had 3 main dishes and 2 mango lassis for just 55 euros. They gave us free drinks (a shot and a home made drink), they played love songs for us, and they gave us a flower. They made our day. Anytime we visit Bremen again, we would definitely be visiting this lovely restaurant.

I visited with an Indian friend and a friend from another school, and it was delicious. If you order curry, they also serve rice, but I like naan, so I ordered naan. The mango lassi is also delicious.

A beautifully furnished restaurant that serves delicious traditional meals, far enough from the busy waterfront for us relax while we feasted, but close enough for us to go and sit by the riverbank and question our decision to ask for "Indian level spicy" afterward.

We received a very friendly welcome and continued service. The Shalimar has a great ambience (not as kitschy as feared ;-)). And most importantly: the food is sensationally good!! With the large selection there is something for everyone and we tried several different courses, everything was excellent! The only problem is that we don't come from Bremen. Otherwise we would definitely be there very often!

02.09.2024, I came to Shalimar with my friends. I had invited my friends and told them that I will take them with me to an Indian restaurant. I paid after eating food. Cash! When I paid, by mistake I gave him two notes of 50 Euros each and one note of 20 Euros. I had mistakenly given 50 Euros extra and when I asked him to return it, the boy started fighting with me and shouting at me not to come here to eat food again. The boy name is Jassi . Really bad experience. 🥲 please Be very careful while paying when you are dealing in cash because they tend to cheat. Especially Jassi boy . I don't want argument with you crazy and useless staff and all. Horrible memory with your restaurant. Pffffffff!!!!!

Best Indian food you can get here....

Very disappointing experience. The room is noisy and noisy, no possibility for conversation. The cocktails are probably the only good thing. The wait staff is poorly trained, forgets orders and is not attentive let alone courteous. The food isn't worth the price and isn't satisfying, but at least the meat is okay. You can probably get better Indian food in a cafeteria or fast food restaurant. Denying every negative review speaks against reflective management.

Vi var ikke sikker på hvad vi ville have, så vi lod tjener bestemme en menu, vi fik 2 øl og 2 vand, en forret til deling, og 3 små retter med ris igen til deling, han ville have betaling kontant på 90 euro. Det er meget dyrt vi kommer ikke igen. Så pas på regningen!!!

The food is kept warm with small bowls heated by tea lights, which of course also looks nice. I would have thought that the Indian dishes would be spicy, but the opposite was the case... we had to season with pepper and salt. Delicious, fluffy rice that is served in a special bowl.

Went there super spontaneously without informing us beforehand. The service was extremely nice and the food was absolutely delicious! I can really only warmly recommend it!

When I first arrived the place was nearly empty and no staff were in evidence. Someone finally appeared after a 10 minute wait – I was getting so frustrated by this point that I felt like just walking off with the row of whisky and champagne bottles on the counter. I ordered a veg pakora, palak paneer and peshawri naan – my standard order in a new Indian. Spiced papadums with smooth chutneys of mint, coconut and mango soon appeared. The pakoras were thinly coated but tasty. But the peshwari naan appeared at the same moment and by the time I tasted it when the main course arrived (a) it was cold and (b) it was a garlic naan! The staff then brought the peshwari naan that I had actually ordered without me needing to complain. The palak paneer was delicately spiced and delicious. On balance, nice food despite the rather random and slightly surly service. I found the Bollywood soundtrack irritating, but I guess some customers must like it.

Fantastic! The service was very nice and personable, and the food was absolutely wonderful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and there is great Bollywood music. I can definitely recommend Shalimar.

We were on a school field trip with a small course on site. Despite having a reservation, we were able to sit down and order at 7 p.m. It took a while for the food to arrive, but it was worth it - the food was extremely delicate and the service was top notch and had a good sense of humour. We were also lucky enough to witness a show where the owner sang an Indian song to celebrate the birthdays of two guests. A clear recommendation if you are in the city and fancy Indian food.

Had been visiting couple since the beginning of this year. But last time I didn't have a good experience. The food was well consumed but the service was poor.

Last night I ordered a Butter chicken and a Chilli Chicken. It was really good. The service was fast and the staff very respectful and family-oriented. I will return there on my next trip to Bremen.

We had a relatively strange dining experience here. The staff seemed a little absent and when we ordered, we were asked whether the person had eaten it before. When they replied that they hadn't had it yet and wanted to try something, the waitress recommended that he wouldn't rather eat it and wouldn't like it. The taste of the food was okay, but due to the experience when ordering it had an aftertaste.

We recently stayed at Shalima and had an overall average experience. The ambience was okay and the staff friendly. The menu offered a good selection of dishes. Unfortunately, the dish I ordered wasn't anything special, but it wasn't terrible either.

Everytime we go to Bremen make sure I visit Shalimar!! Highly recommend to anyone who's in town!!

Dear readers, Don't let the atmosphere scare you away!!! The food should definitely be the focus here and consoles over the ambience or (if you have to) the toilets, which are not so visually attractive. So, food is really tasty and quick too! 👍 The restaurant rightly has a good rating on Google!

Was in Bremen for a conference. Visited this restaurant almost everyday (5 days). Main course is very good. I will recommend everyone to try their main course if they want to experience authentic indian taste. Staff is friendly and kind. I think starters can be improved a bit. Overall it’s good !

This was our second time there and we were more than thrilled after both visits. Very attentive and friendly service, the food was served very quickly and tasted great. There is room for improvement in the sanitary facilities and in my opinion the music could be a little more relaxed or played more quietly, but that didn't spoil our visit to the restaurant :) We would love to come back and look forward to our next visit.

Worst experience in my whole Europe trip. Staff was extremely rude. We went there precisely on 24th of April. We ordered food, being teetotaller, we refrain from ordering drinks. They refused to serve food. Our expectation was to get home food away from home. But these guys have breached all limits. The waiter asked us to leave as it is compulsory to order drinks. Can't really tag them as " Indian restaurant " coz we Indians are known for our hospitality. Don't recommend it at all. Experience here was such a bad scar in my memories.

Indian cuisine is one of my favourite, and here at the Shalimar restaurant the food was sooooo delicious! Portions are big, so I could not even finish it, mangolasi and masala tea the best 👏. Also chicken two types which you can see in the photos and videos were excellent. I’m very happy that for one night in Bremen I chose exactly this restaurant. Also the guys at the restaurant were very helpful and attentive. Will definitely come back when I’m again in Bremen 🤗

It was our first time there and not the last time. The food was simply top class and all the dishes tasted incredibly good. The owner suggested that we (newcomers to Indian cuisine) try several dishes so that everyone can eat everything. Everything was explained to us and something was told about each dish. The whole meal almost had something of the “perfect dinner” about it. We were even served Indian wine, which was really tasty and something different from European wine.
